"All the time, actually. I find that you can find out some very interesting things about people if you do not let your presence be known to them. Eventually, I do make myself known and that's what I'm doing now so.." "That's true. I must admit that I'm much the same way. I often prefer to simply observe people, before speaking to them," Ezequiel stated, still watching the girl with his eyes like deep pools of viridian. It may have sounded quite strange, but it was true. Chance encounters like this were rare for El; usually, he took note of a person's every detail from afar, before deciding to speak with them, unless, of course, he had another reason to simply talk to them about something. Rarely did Ezequiel simply decide to sit with people and speak to them - most were too loud, crude or unstimulating to talk to. However, this girl was different: he could tell that she was, perhaps, a bit more akin to his own personality than most other people at Hogwarts. For the time being, she had his interest. "So, what is it that you dont need?" "My O.W.L.'s and N.E.W.T.'s, actually," Ezequiel stated, seeing no reason to withhold the information. He would ask her to keep quiet about his association with Mr. Gnarr, but even then, El doubted it mattered too much. He doubted most students here had even heard of a foreign potion-maker like him and his company (which was, of course, more a result of their own ignorance than Teran's success) and despite the existence of any of his less than innocent dealings, Ezequiel was sure it would have no repercussions for him if it got out he was working for him, considering Teran presented a respectable face to most of the world. "Don't get me wrong, I do strive to get the highest marks available for my O.W.L.'s and I intend to continue my education afterwards," he continued explaining to the girl. "It's just that I've recently landed a job and, well... Let's just say my future's looking pretty secure, even if I quit Hogwarts now." "Sorry. Do you often have people play pranks on you?" "Don't worry about it." Ezequiel shrugged in response to the girl's second question. "From time to time. A couple of students in my house did it quite a lot earlier this year, however, most of them seem to have given up on it. Usually, I rarely give a reaction aside from a sarcastic remark. Although there are still a few trouble-makers I'd expect would find teasing me amusing." This emotionless behaviour was simply Ezequiel's way. No matter how irritating anyone was being, it was next to impossible to truly get El angry or upset. Something then occurred to him. "Forgive me, I've been remiss. I haven't introduced myself yet, have I? Ezequiel Quintana. Slytherin, fifth year. What's your name?" He added, tilting his head slightly as he observed the girl. |

"That's true. I must admit that I'm much the same way. I often prefer to simply observe people, before speaking to them." This boy was very well spoken. Asteria's never heard of such a young person talk in the manner that he was. Usually it was her parents or some of their friends who spoke very well mannered. Just an observation though. She wondered if he came from a wealthy family like she did. If not, then where did he learn to speak so well? It must not have been at Hogwarts because she hasnt heard anyone else talk the way he does. Asteria didnt even talk in such a sophisticated manner and she was always around it when she was home. Glancing down at him, she said, "Well, you didnt have time to observe me before we started talking. Would you like me to go away for a few minutes so you can observe?" She gave him a teasing grin. "My O.W.L.'s and N.E.W.T.'s, actually. Don't get me wrong, I do strive to get the highest marks available for my O.W.L.'s and I intend to continue my education afterwards. It's just that I've recently landed a job and, well... Let's just say my future's looking pretty secure, even if I quit Hogwarts now." Asteria couldnt even imagine quitting school. Ever. She fully intended to finish her classes and graduate. She still wasnt sure what exactly she wanted to do after school but figured she had plenty of time to figure it out. Perhaps a job at the Daily Prophet writing would be a good outlet for her. Her parents wanted all of their children to get a job at the Ministry but Asteria honestly wasnt sure if any of the Le Fay kids would do that. "That's interesting. What kind of job would be good enough to quit school over? You still seem young to me to be leaving Hogwarts. Of course, I'm betting you're older than me but still..." "From time to time. A couple of students in my house did it quite a lot earlier this year, however, most of them seem to have given up on it. Usually, I rarely give a reaction aside from a sarcastic remark. Although there are still a few trouble-makers I'd expect would find teasing me amusing." Asteria felt kinda bad for him. He didnt seem like the type that would get the receiving end of pranks. He did seem like a quiet person but that didnt mean anything. She was a quiet person and she never got made fun of. "Well, at least they've decreased over the year. I'm betting it's your reaction that turned them off. Normally, people want a dramatic reaction to pranks, not apathetic ones." She may sound like she knew what she was talking about but she really had no idea. "Forgive me, I've been remiss. I haven't introduced myself yet, have I? Ezequiel Quintana. Slytherin, fifth year. What's your name?" He's been what? Asteria lifted an eyebrow at Ezequiel. Man, he knew big words too. Good grief. She suddenly felt so unsophisticated and she didnt like it. "It's nice to meet you, Ezequiel. I'm Asteria Le Fay and a 4th year Hufflepuff." Him being a Slytherin explained why so many pranks were pulled on him. They were mean in that house. |

"Well, you didnt have time to observe me before we started talking. Would you like me to go away for a few minutes so you can observe?" To his own surprise, Ezequiel blushed slightly. To tell you the truth, he didn't consider the girl to be too hard on the eyes, so to speak... "No, thank you, that's fine," he said and looked away for a moment, glancing at another, empty bench to his right. He tried to keep his face as neutral as possible, but it was clear that El may have wanted to say something else. "I certainly wouldn't mind observing you." That was what had really been on his mind. His reaction shocked him. Ezequiel rarely blushed... What was wrong with him today? "That's interesting. What kind of job would be good enough to quit school over? You still seem young to me to be leaving Hogwarts. Of course, I'm betting you're older than me but still..." "Yes, I normally would have never considered leaving school... But the job is at a foreign potion-making company. A rather succesful one at that. Potioneering is a skill I'm particularly good at and I enjoy doing it. So having this opportunity is a big deal to me," Ezequiel explained, looking at the girl again. Still, unless other circumstances intervened, he would finish his entire education here, at Hogwarts. He'd arranged it with Teran that he would start at the company officially this summer; after that, it would be a 'part-time job', of sorts. Even if grades didn't matter anymore to his success, Ezequiel would stay here for another two years. It was only proper. Or, perhaps, he still wanted to postpone a hard-working life for the time being... Remain a normal teenage wizard. "Well, at least they've decreased over the year. I'm betting it's your reaction that turned them off. Normally, people want a dramatic reaction to pranks, not apathetic ones." "Exacta," Ezequiel stated and gave a short nod. He'd learned that long ago. As a kid, he'd been a little more open with his emotions. But he soon learned that hiding them was often the wisest course of action, no matter how discomforting it may be. In time, it had become more than a habit, but a way of life for El. "It's nice to meet you, Ezequiel. I'm Asteria Le Fay and a 4th year Hufflepuff." "Encantada," he said, lapsing into Spanish again. "It's a pleasure, Asteria," Ezequiel added, inclining his head slightly. Asteria, huh... It was a beautiful name. But he was more interested in her surname: Le Fay. He believed he'd heard of the family. |

"No, thank you, that's fine." Asteria shrugged at his answer. "Suit yourself but dont say I didnt offer." She saw him look away and could've sworn she saw a blush. Was she seeing things? It almost seemed like he wanted to say something else but thought against it. Oh well. Asteria wasnt really one to push things so she left it alone but she couldnt ignore the blush she thought she saw. She was not the type of girl who made boys blush. She left that to her older sister, Athena. Her sister got their mother's tall and beautiful gene whereas Asteria got her father's shorter and plain gene. She didnt complain too much about it because she loved her father dearly. "Yes, I normally would have never considered leaving school... But the job is at a foreign potion-making company. A rather succesful one at that. Potioneering is a skill I'm particularly good at and I enjoy doing it. So having this opportunity is a big deal to me." She had to admit that was impressive. The very fact that he was able to get this job at such a young age must speak volumes about his talent in potions. Asteria hated Potions and wasnt very good at the subject but she could do the basics. Her favorite class was History of Magic. Probably because she got to learn about some of her family's history during some of the lectures. She always got looks during class when they did talk about the Le Fays but that was okay. Asteria was proud of her heritage but not in a vain, snobby way like her father's family sometimes was. "Wow. I'm impressed, Ezequiel. Not every young person gets an opportunity like this. I think if I had the same thing happen to me, I would be more than willing to leave school earlier." She laughed softly. "Ulitmately, what would you like to do with your talent in potions?" "Encantada. It's a pleasure, Asteria." She noticed Ezequiel tilt his head towards and could tell he was trying to figure out if he's heard of her family. Nodding, she said, "No doubt you've heard of my family. Everyone else knows about the great and powerful Le Fays." She rolled her eyes. Even though she was proud of her heritage, she still wanted to be known as an individual not associated with her family. She was sure she was the only one in her family who felt this way. Not that reflected anything bad on her parents or her siblings. Asteria just preferred to be her own person. |

"Suit yourself but dont say I didnt offer." Ezequiel didn't respond and simply left the matter at that. The truth was, he found Asteria quite fair. If he judged by looks alone, then she wasn't particularly alluring, but she certainly wasn't bad-looking either. Moreover, Ezequiel was of the opinion that beauty tended to shine forth from the inside. So far, Asteria seemed kind and equitable: as expected from someone from Hufflepuff house, who valued honesty, fair play and loyalty above all else. Not only that, but she was smart. That was something Ezequiel valued. "Wow. I'm impressed, Ezequiel. Not every young person gets an opportunity like this. I think if I had the same thing happen to me, I would be more than willing to leave school earlier. Ulitmately, what would you like to do with your talent in potions?" "Thank you," Ezequiel said honestly, a small smile appearing on his lips. He then went silent for a moment as he considered Asteria's question. What did he want to do with his potioneering skills? The reason he was excited at working at Teran's company certainly didn't have to do with the money he could make, eventually; El did like luxury, but that wasn't what drove him. "I've never really thought about that much, actually. I suppose, for me, the joy lies with the process of making a potion itself and not the potion's intended purpose. I suppose I want to find ways to better the world, but what matters most is how much I enjoy making them." Perhaps it sounded a bit selfish, but it was the truth. Many would consider Ezequiel weird that way, but Teran and other potioneers understood... The smell of the ingredients... The feeling of subtly stirring a cauldron. The logic that bound the magical reactions together with the separate factors of the substance... Potions were his passion. "No doubt you've heard of my family. Everyone else knows about the great and powerful Le Fays." "Indeed, I have," El admitted. Staying with Livia, even for a short while, taught you all about the various pureblooded families in Europe today and which ones were and were not 'respectable'; in other words, those that looked down upon Muggles and Muggleborns and considered them trash. If his memory was correct, then the Le Fays had not fallen under Livia's 'respectable'-category. That aside, Ezequiel did note the way Asteria spoke of them. "You don't like the attention, do you?" He asked. He wouldn't know. Ezequiel was a half-blood. |

I suppose I want to find ways to better the world, but what matters most is how much I enjoy making them." Well, he should've been around earlier in the Great Hall when Daniel needed her help with their Potions homework instead of Asteria helping him. He'd basically needed to know what ingredients were included in making the Polyjuice Potion. Maybe then that whole fiasco with Casimir would never have happened. She winced just thinking about it. Now, she was sure most of Hogwarts knew about the drama going on in her life. It was so embarrassing. Now she couldnt seem to walk to class without someone asking her about Casimir. Sighing, she focused back on Ezequiel. "Well, if I ever need help with my Potions homework, I'm coming to you then." She grinned down at him. "I would love to be a writer. I have plenty of time to think about what I want to do after I graduate so I'm not in any hurry. I've thought about working for the Daily Prophet but my parents arent too happy about that." She grimaced, thinking about her parents' reaction when she told them her thoughts. They wanted her to become an Auror like her father but that wasnt going to happen. "Indeed, I have. You don't like the attention, do you?" That figures. Everyone has heard of her family. Luckily, she had her siblings to get some of the attention too. She was sure it had been hard for her older brother, Ares, when he first started Hogwarts because of all the attention. It seemed that everywhere they went, people seemed to know who they were and it was quite annoying. Shaking her head, Asteria replied, "No, I dont. I mean, dont get me wrong. I'm very proud of what my family has accomplished in the past but I just want to be known for my own person. Does that make sense?" She shrugged. "It's like being a celebrity. You cant go anywhere without someone knowing who you are." |

I have plenty of time to think about what I want to do after I graduate so I'm not in any hurry. I've thought about working for the Daily Prophet but my parents arent too happy about that." "Feel free to ask me anything." Ezequiel continued smiling. It was not the first time he'd heard a remark like that; even if others didn't like him as a person, at least they respected him for his Potions skills. El had been asked to help with Potions homework or tutoring others several times, both at Beauxbatons and at Hogwarts. Admittedly, it had never worked out too well. It wasn't a matter of being unable to provide decent answers, Ezequiel simply found it difficult to teach others and make them understand something that seemed as clear as day to him. But now El turned his attention to the topic of Asteria's future career. "Why is that?" He asked, regarding her parents, an eyebrow raised. Though Ezequiel could guess several reasons: they had a different career in mind for Asteria or they simply didn't approve of the Prophet. If it was the latter, than it was understandable; from what El had heard, the Daily Prophet had been known for inaccuracies, exaggerating and influence from the Ministry. However, that was largely a result of the people that worked and writed for it; if Asteria wanted to seek her career there, then El couldn't see why not. "No, I dont. I mean, dont get me wrong. I'm very proud of what my family has accomplished in the past but I just want to be known for my own person. Does that make sense? It's like being a celebrity. You cant go anywhere without someone knowing who you are." "I understand. Partially, at least. By acting on foreknowledge of your family, others tend to develop a view on you, as a person, before they have even met you, yourself," Ezequiel stated, having a certain amount of experience with similar situations. He continued speaking, with a surprising edge of icy logic - like a machine. "Some would go as far as to label you and associate you with some other group, principle or idea. The worst of those people are trash, that find it difficult to even challenge the view of you that they've formed in their minds. They believe themselves to have all the wisdom, without ever bothering to look under the surface of the comfortable little image of you that has nested itself in their pretty little heads." Ezequiel had encountered plenty of those. Everyone did that, to some degree: forming an opinion of another before they had even met. However, perhaps he had gone too far. "Of course, I'm uncertain whether people would go so far in your case," he added more kindly and leant back, folding one leg over the other |

"Why is that?" Asteria smiled at his offer to help her with Potions. It felt kinda weird to be the one asking for help with homework/projects. Usually people came to her for help with classes. History of Magic was her best subject so most of the questions she got were from her classmates in that class. Her parents couldnt be happier that she's taken such an interest in history. All of her siblings were rather intelligent in most of their subjects because their parents have encouraged them to be hard workers in everything they do. Call them overachievers if you will. At Ezequiel's question, Asteria shrugged. "They just dont see working at the Daily Prophet as a prestigious job. Both of my older siblings want to become aurors so I think they were disappointed when I told them that wasnt what I wanted to do." Her father was a very talented auror and Asteria couldnt be more proud of him. However, that just wasnt what she wanted to do. Her heart wasnt into it. Her passion has always been writing and her parents knew this. Maybe they just assumed she would turn writing into a hobby. She didnt want to become the black sheep of the family just because she didnt want to go into the "family business". How Godfatherish was that? "I understand. Partially, at least. By acting on foreknowledge of your family, others tend to develop a view on you, as a person, before they have even met you, yourself. Some would go as far as to label you and associate you with some other group, principle or idea. The worst of those people are trash, that find it difficult to even challenge the view of you that they've formed in their minds. They believe themselves to have all the wisdom, without ever bothering to look under the surface of the comfortable little image of you that has nested itself in their pretty little heads. Of course, I'm uncertain whether people would go so far in your case." She couldnt help but wince at Ezequiel's words. He pretty much nailed what she's been trying to say to Casimir over the past few weeks. He had this perfect little image of her and it was so hard to break that image. Especially when she didnt want to think of herself as that perfect person. She had faults just like everyone else and Casimir needed to realize that. She didnt know what else to do about that whole situation. It sounded like Ezequiel had some experience with this as well which made her feel slightly better. At least she wasnt the only one suffering with this. Nodding, she said, "Unfortunately, there is someone who has gone to that extreme. This person cannot seem to let go of this image he has of me out of his mind. He thinks that because I come from a wealthy, prestigious family that I am too good to be his friend. So, he has pushed me away without even hearing what I have to say." She scratched the side of her neck. She didnt mean to say all of that but it was rather nice to get it off her shoulders. "It sounds like you have some experience with this too." She glanced down his way. |

"They just dont see working at the Daily Prophet as a prestigious job. Both of my older siblings want to become aurors so I think they were disappointed when I told them that wasnt what I wanted to do." "I see. Too bad for them. But it's your life and it's your choice. Doing something that you don't want to do is pointless. Your parents will just have to live with it," Ezequiel stated rather simply. Some people found him to state some things rather bluntly, but that was just the way he was. Everything was based on logic in Ezequiel's mind, including choices like this. In this case, it only depended on what purpose Asteria wanted to serve - what action she believed, if only sub-consciously, to be the correct course to take in her life. Emotions and likes and dislikes tended to point out what that course was. All other factors became irrelevant. For example, had Asteria's purpose been merely to make her family proud of her, she would've chosen to become an Auror or something else that would've pleased them, regardless of what it was she preferred. However, it was already clear that she considered her own choice more important and thus, her parents were irrelevant. At least, they would be in Ezequiel's mind, which often strayed to blacks and whites. "Unfortunately, there is someone who has gone to that extreme. This person cannot seem to let go of this image he has of me out of his mind. He thinks that because I come from a wealthy, prestigious family that I am too good to be his friend. So, he has pushed me away without even hearing what I have to say. It sounds like you have some experience with this too." "What a fool... Judging others like that," Ezequiel muttered as he thought Asteria's situation over. It seemed he had definitely struck a nerve there. He briefly closed his eyes, though the afternoon sun shone through his eyelids. He couldn't quite think of a clear-cut solution - probably because he was struggling with it himself. It seemed that, no matter what, human society was based on differences: rich and poor; old and young; family and friends; Muggle or magical. Of course, rejecting friendship for that reason alone was something that Ezequiel was unable to comprehend. Perhaps the idiot in question associated Asteria's family with something unpleasant? "Then perhaps you should simply confront him and ask him to try and see you differently. Ask him to try and stop being so judicious. If he refuses or is simply unable to, then he's probably a fool not worth your time." But to Asteria's question on his own experience with this social phenomenon, Ezequiel remained silent for a moment. "Indeed, I have," he finally said, turning his dark green eyes directly to the younger girl. "I have always been the way I am now. Quiet. Solitary. Not as able at showing emotions. Awkward in human contact. Most people find me rather odd or boring. They form this image of me and others begin to think the same way, eventhough they've barely spoken to me themselves and form their own opinion of me. It's rather pathetic." He stated all this without a hint of a smile on his face, but he didn't sound like he was sad about it either. Ezequiel's voice wasn't monotone, but there was still a certain sense of emptiness about it. As if it was merely a fact that didn't bother him or amused him. It just was. |

"I see. Too bad for them. But it's your life and it's your choice. Doing something that you don't want to do is pointless. Your parents will just have to live with it." Asteria stared at Ezequiel for a moment before answering. Man, he was blunt. Obviously, he was always honest and it was quite refreshing to be around someone like this. At least with him, she didnt have to pull the truth from him like she had to do with Casimir. It probably wasnt fair to keep comparing the two boys but she couldnt help it. This was a very nice change for her and she was going to enjoy it. Grinning slightly, she said, "That's true. Now, if only I can get the courage to say that to them." She didnt really see herself saying all of that in those exact words but maybe once she gets older, she can put her foot down with her parents. They couldnt make her choices for her during her entire life. At some point she had to think of herself. Chuckling, she asked Ezequiel, "Are you always this blunt with people?" Hopefully he wouldnt take offense to her question. "What a fool... Judging others like that. Then perhaps you should simply confront him and ask him to try and see you differently. Ask him to try and stop being so judicious. If he refuses or is simply unable to, then he's probably a fool not worth your time." He wasnt the only person to tell her that Casimir was a fool. Her sister told her the same thing when Asteria went crying to her this last time. Athena was great at giving advice so Asteria was choosing to listen to her this time. Of course, Athena has been saying the same thing for months now. She kept telling her little sister to forget about Casimir and move on to someone who was worthy of her attention. However Asteria still felt that Casimir was worthy enough. In fact, he was more than worthy enough. Sighing, Asteria swung down from the tree and took a seat beside Ezequiel on the bench. "I've tried telling him that but he refuses to listen. You're probably right though. I probably just need to forget about Casimir." She looked down at her hands. "Indeed, I have. I have always been the way I am now. Quiet. Solitary. Not as able at showing emotions. Awkward in human contact. Most people find me rather odd or boring. They form this image of me and others begin to think the same way, eventhough they've barely spoken to me themselves and form their own opinion of me. It's rather pathetic." Asteria looked over at the boy next to her and was marveled by the way these things didnt seem to bother him. They sure bothered her. "Well, from what I can tell so far, I dont think you're boring at all. In fact, I find your honesty and bluntness quite refreshing. People should take lessons from you." She gave him a quick grin. |

"That's true. Now, if only I can get the courage to say that to them. Are you always this blunt with people?" Ezequiel's smile became slightly bigger when Asteria told him that. "As a matter of fact, I am. The way I see it, there's no point in saying anything, but words that matter," he said and meant it. In El's opinion, you could be blunt without being rude. A cool breeze rustled his black hair. He fell silent and enjoyed it, and the rustling of the leaves in the tree, before he looked back at Asteria. "And don't worry. You'll say it when you're ready. Undoubtedly, a little less blunt than me," he added, a rare, misschievous glint in Ezequiel's eyes. "I've tried telling him that but he refuses to listen. You're probably right though. I probably just need to forget about Casimir." At this, Ezequiel's smile disappeared. Instead, he looked rather surprised. "Casimir?" He said, wondering... Could it be...? No, it didn't necessarily mean him. But it wasn't a very common name. How many people named Casimir were actually at Hogwarts? "With 'Casimir', do you mean Casimir Dragomeru? That trouble-making Gryffindor?" Ezequiel asked, now feeling some dislike towards him - and not for the usual reasons. Somehow, the idea that that fool acted like that and made Asteria's life more difficult, irritated him. A part of Ezequiel's personality acted up, though; he'd only met this girl today. Why was he acting like this? "Well, from what I can tell so far, I dont think you're boring at all. In fact, I find your honesty and bluntness quite refreshing. People should take lessons from you." What? Asteria's words nearly shocked Ezequiel as much as the realisation that it might be Casimir Dragomeru that was bothering her. It took him a moment to respond and he almost stared at Asteria. As if he hadn't seen her before. "T-thank you..." He said quietly. But next moment, no matter how he might deny afterwards, Ezequiel continued smiling. |

"As a matter of fact, I am. The way I see it, there's no point in saying anything, but words that matter. And don't worry. You'll say it when you're ready. Undoubtedly, a little less blunt than me." Asteria couldnt help but laugh at his answer. Boy was it nice to talk to someone who spoke his mind. He was alot like her brother Ares in that way. For the most part he was a quiet person but when he would speak it was usually short and sweet. Asteria was definitely not an outspoken person. She's always been shy around people. In fact Athena would often have to speak for her when they were little because Asteria was always afraid to. It was rather sad when she thought about it. To Ezequiel, she said, "Well at least everyone knows where they stand with you." With a grin, she added, "If I told my parents about my career plans in a blunt manner, I would never see the light of day because they would ground me for eternity." "Casimir? With 'Casimir', do you mean Casimir Dragomeru? That trouble-making Gryffindor?" Asteria nodded grimly. Great. Ezequiel knew him too. Of course he did. Everyone seemed to know Casimir at Hogwarts. He must've personally gone around the school at some point and introduced himself to every single student so that everyone would know his name. "That would be him. He's not my favorite person right now." She rolled her eyes at the thought of Casimir. That boy was going to be the death of her. Glancing back at Ezequiel, she asked, "How do you know him?" She was almost afraid of his answer. "T-thank you..." With a slight giggle, Asteria watched Ezequiel's reaction. Bless his little heart. He was acting like he's never received a compliment before. Surely that wasnt true. It almost made her want to give him a hug, which she figured would make him even more uncomfortable. "Have you never gotten a compliment before?" She lifted an eyebrow at him. Her family was big on encouraging and complimenting each other so it only came naturally to her to do the same towards other people. |

Natasha Lacroix's feet thumped against the soft down feather mattress as she flipped through one of the more trashy wizarding tabloids. Her dark hair was pulled back at the front with a red clip, matching the piping of her hogwarts uniform. Wednesday afternoon was the most lax for her, and with no looming assignments, she had decided to dedicate an afternoon to some well deserved alone time. The rest of her dorm was no where to be found- odd, since she was not aware that anyone else had classes that day. Finishing the magazine, she tossed it over on to her roomate's bed, knowing the other girl would appreciate the read, before turning onto her back and looking out Gryffindor Tower's window. The day was sunny, and warm, a rare one for the Scottish countryside. Siding off her bed, Nate slipped on black ballet pumps before heading out the door. She made her way through the castle, five years in this place was enough to allow her to navigate it even with both eyes shut. She remembered how in her first year, she had gotten lost so many times, she had to learn the 'point-me' spell just so she would be able to get to her classes on time. Still, that was a thing of the past, and she would prefer it if no one brought it up again. Passing the third floor corridor, she felt a grin quirk at her lips as she remembered the fond profession of love a fourth year Ravenclaw had for her right at that second alcove. She was a mere thirteen years old then, and flattered, she agreed to go out with him. Surprisingly, the pair lasted more than the usual month or two. The warm sun beckoned her out the castle's doors. Crossing the Entrance Hall, empty, this time of the day, she slipped out of the castle and towards the courtyards, where the low stone walls were possibly warm from the sun's rays. Picking her favorite spot, overlooking the lake with her back to the castle, Nate lifted herself onto the ledge and settled down for some daydreaming. |

It was a warm, sunny spring day and a bunch of students were habitating the courtyard. The upper classmen were lazying around while a few third classmen were chasing each other with stink bombs. Nicole was sprawled across a bench, her long brunette hair falling in her face, as she chewed on the end of a quill and tried to figure out what else she wanted to add to her letter. Her legs were crossed and she was writing the letter against her legs. She had her wand at her side just incase one of those stink bombs came her way and she had to teach a third a painful lesson. She already had to give a third a tail for annoying her, so teh others were staying clear of her. God she hated people sometimes. Hm...she had already told 'Uncle' Eric about her exams, the prank she pulled in the men's bathroom, and gave him a brief report on the drug situation at school. She purposely 'forgot' to mention that she helped Becky getting her hands on some. She just mentioned that she knew who had them and who was selling but it hadn't turned into an epidemic. Still she was worried. She knew he had something to do with this even though he kept denying it. He kept telling her to mind her own business and it went from "I don't know what you're talking about" to 'Just leave it alone, Nicole, I can handle it." Of course that worked when she was six or even eleven, but she wasn't a kid anymore. She was sixteen now. She deserved to be treated like an adult. She hated it when he treated her like shit. When she was young she had wanted in on the business and she still did. She could take care of herself and she wasn't a fool. She could take it besides it'd kind of be like father takes daughter to work day...except not really. God she hated it when he didn't take her seriously! Hm, what else to add. It was kind of hard to find new things to write about when she wrote to him every day. Now that he had been 'accepted' into society, Nicole didn't miss a chance to contact him. He probably wanted to kill her because she was flooding his office with letters but she didn't care. She loved writing to him. She had wanted to do this when he was on the run but it had been unwise back then. But now there was no reason to hide and she was going to cach up on lost time. Yep he was going to kill her. Still she also wanted to keep tabs on him. He was adapting relatively well to living a normal life but he didn't fool her. She knew where he truly belonged and it wasn't behind a desk. For whatever reason he loved that dark art crap and he was always drawn to it. She didn't completely understand why. All she knew was that he would chase after it and she just wanted to be by his side to protect him. Was that too much to ask? She sighed slightly and ran her hand through her hair. God she loved him so much but he drove he crazy. God she needed someone to come and distract her...or at least give her something to write about. Hm...where was Cas? Probably chasing after his girl. Damn, some people had all the luck. Why couldn't Bailey get held back a year? It was lonely being one of the only lesbians. That's not saying she didn't have some fun on the side but it wasn't the same. No one could kiss like Bailey to stroke her like Bailey could. God school couldn't end quick enough. Where was Becky? The thought caused Nicole to frown slightly. She hadn't seen her friend since the night she gave Becky that one pill. Nicole knew it had been a bad idea but it had made Becky so happy, it just seemed worth. She hoped Becky was okay. Shit, she knew that those pills had been a bad idea. Fuck. |

Darcy was tired of studying. It would have surprised anyone who knew him; it seemed these days, all he did was study. Normally, that suited him just fine. After all, his exams were nearly done, and by all rights, he should be spending the day studying. But it was a spectacularly beautiful day, especially for Scotland. The sun shone brightly, the grass was verdant, and all around him, other students were celebrating the end of their exams. Of course, he still had two left to go; he was taking eleven courses, after all. He hoped to get Outstanding on all of them. The day off from studying wasn't going to help him, but he'd given in to pressure, as he nearly always did. Adria had ambushed him that morning at breakfast. She took great pleasure in informing him all of her testing was done, and chattered his ear off about her newest boyfriend. Why his twin thought he was interested escaped him, but Adria was unstoppable. The girl was his exact opposite in personality; she excelled in all social situations and hadn't a lick of fear in her body. She was outgoing and confident, whereas he occasionally had trouble forming complete sentences around other people. Where he was reserved and hesitated to share his opinions outside of a classroom, his sister was bluntly honest. Perhaps that was why she'd convinced him to take a break from studying. She'd told him that one afternoon in the sunshine could hardly do him any harm, and besides, it wasn't as if he couldn't take the books he actually read out of pleasure with him. So he'd done just that. It was a familiar sight; Darcy was sure most people at Hogwarts wouldn't even recognize his face, as it was so often stuck in a textbook. This time, he was reading something Adria had told him was referred to as dick lit. He didn't have any idea what that meant, but he'd discovered it wasn't as bad as it sounded. Just as he always did, he became engrossed in what he was reading. So engrossed that he failed to see the people around him, or hear them. It was therefore easy to understand why he missed all the warnings sent in his direction. Darcy, not paying the least bit of attention, found himself suddenly shoved forward. An errant tree root had tripped him, causing the forward momentum, and without time to prepare, he grabbed onto the nearest available surface so that he didn't end up with his face planted in the dirt. That available surface happened to be the arm of the very pretty brunette lying on the bench above him. At least, he thought she was pretty; her face was somewhat indistinct due to the fact that he was entirely at the wrong angle. And possibly wrenching her arm out of its socket. Darcy flushed as he scrambled to his feet, reading glasses slightly obscuring his embarrassed hazel eyes. "Sorry." he stammered, immediately releasing the girl. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to....I didn't hurt you, did I? Do you need to go to the Hospital Wing? I can...nevermind. Sorry. I'm just clumsy." And he was staring. She was pretty. Darcy didn't know how to talk to pretty girls. Especially pretty girls he'd nearly amputated. Really, he just didn't know how to talk to people at all. Her being pretty just compounded the fact. |
