"Well he never mentioned you to me, but I don't think he wants to kill you. We don't have a personal relationship but he doesn't seem like those fanatic vampire hunters who kill everyone and everything that has to do with vampires. Besides you are his sister and I'm sure that has to count for something." "Let's hope you're right. Only time will tell." The last time she saw Alexei had been many months ago when he came into her temporary office at the Ministry. It had been a long time since they spoke before this meeting and Katia had been ready for anything. She half expected for him to come in with several of his vampire hunter buddies, preparing to finish her off because she was the very monster they hunted. However, it didnt turn out like that. Alexei had come to apologize for how he reacted to her being a vampire. Honestly she couldnt blame his shock but it did hurt to know that he thought it had been her fault. He should've known her better than that. They had been so close growing up. They've always had each other's backs, no matter what. Katia couldnt believe that he'd all but turned his back on her during the time she needed him most. Katia sighed. Really no use in thinking about it now. She was becoming close to Vladimir now. It was ironic at how things have turned around. Oh well. She blamed Alexei. "You're welcome, but you're probably right. I guess there aren't that many people out who would want vampires cured." Katia shrugged at Manfred's words. Of course she was right. Vampires were seen as monsters and rightfully so. All she wanted was to be a good little vampire but sometimes it was really hard. It would better for everyone if there was someone out there who wanted to cure vampires but Katia knew she may never see that happen. "Maybe one day someone will come along and take pity of us vampires but I'm not going to hold my breath." "Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I've tried to get better at reading people by studying people at the Nebula. I think I've gotten better. But I know becoming a legillimens takes time. It makes me wished I had tried to learn when I was younger. But oh well. Nothing I can do about it now." Katia matched his grin. It's taken her more than thirty years to become the legillimens she was today. She wasnt ever going to be perfect at it nor did she expect to be. She enjoyed having the ability to read minds. When she was a child, she thought it was a curse. Her parents didnt understand it and therefore thought she was crazy. They even came close to sending her to an asylum in St. Petersburg. However, Alexei had stepped in and convinced them to leave her alone about it. How he managed to do that Katia will never know. She'd been so confused by it all back then. Now, she didnt see it as a curse. In fact she was pretty proud of it. "That's good. Keep working on that and you will be well on your way. I'm betting there are legillimens out there who didnt have the ability when they were young. Besides, you seem to be pretty young yourself so I bet there's still time for you." She gave him a smile. "If you ever need some advice, just let me know." She glanced up at the moon and realized how late it was. It was time for her to get home before the sun came up. She was glad she ran into Manfred. He seemed to be a nice young man. There werent too many of those around anymore. Scratching the side of her neck, Katia turned to him and said, "Well, I better be going. It was very nice to meet you, Manfred. I hope we see each other again." With that, she gave him one last smile and walked away towards home. |

Leaning out from behind the elm tree, she spotted her prey a few feet ahead. The drunken man staggered his way towards the lights of what looked like a small village. Perhaps to get another drink? Who knew where he came from...not that it mattered to her. Her only focus was on the source of food located at the nape of his neck. While she could see clearly see everything else around her in the dark, rainy forest the man before her was the most important target. The rain had been falling for hours. A small pond had begun to form around the tree where she stood. Her bare feet took a step forward in the mounting water. Her torn, drenched clothes molded to her body. Her long, dark locks framed her pale face. Suddenly, the man stopped as if he heard her advance. Impossible. There was no way he could hear her among the monsoon happening around them. No matter. She wasn't afraid of him. She learned recently that she could be rather.....unpredictable. Not having any memory of who you were will do that to you. The first time she noticed something odd about herself was a night not too long ago. She'd been walking out of a hospital in a town where she had no memory of how she arrived there. Someplace called Vancouver. Who the hell knew what had happened to her to cause her a lengthy hospital stay. All of the doctors had agreed that she may be a stray mental patient from a nearby mental hospital. After a few phone calls, their hopes had been dashed. Apparently she'd been admitted without any kind of ID so that doctors started calling her Jane Smith. However, she knew deep inside that was not her real name. Anyway, the doctors and nurses said that she's suffered several broken bones along with a severe head injury. The thing that really had them concerned was the blood loss. It seemed that her body had lost a dramatic loss of blood somehow, which prompted them to repeat to her that she should be dead. No human could've survived what she had. After two weeks of several blood transfusions and numerous drugs that constantly made her sick, she'd healed. However, as soon as she stepped outside of the hospital, things got really bad. It was like the volume on everything was turned up to the max. A couple of nurses had passed her and she swore she could hear their thoughts, which was crazy. That couldn't happen. She had no choice but to run to the nearest sanctuary. Not that she'd known where she was going but she had to find someplace quiet. After what seemed like hours, she found an abandoned car on the side of the road. After securing herself inside, she sat in the quiet and tried to figure out her next move. A couple of her doctors had taken pity on her and had given her enough money to leave the country. Apparently, her accent gave away her origins. So, they gave her directions to the nearest airport and told her to take the first flight back to Great Britain. The name didn't even ring a bell. A couple days later, she happened upon a nice lady who knew a lost cause when she saw one and took her into her home. She cooked a meal for her that made her sick to her stomach but she forced it down so that the lady wouldn't feel bad. After a couple days she'd finally admitted that she needed to find the airport. Deciding where to go had been surprisingly easy. On the lists of departures, she saw the name "London". For some unknown reason, it jumped out at her. So, she used most of her money and hopped on the first flight she could. For the most part, she'd stayed in the shadows. For some reason she couldn't explain she didn't want anyone to recognize her. Her instincts told her to stay hidden for now until she knew for sure she was safe. From what she didn't know. She wasn't sure how long she'd been in London when she found herself in what seemed like a different section of the city. She couldn't explain it but the air was different...almost more charged....like there was too much electricity in the air. More than once someone would bump into her and before they could say anything she would run. She even saw someone reach for her after they saw her face. After being here for a week or so, she noticed something even more frightening about herself. One minute she was walking through these very woods and the next she was standing over a woman whose....blood...she'd just consumed. Now, she didn't know much about herself but this could not have been normal. The thirst came out of nowhere and she really did not think twice about what she was doing while it was happening. Before she could confirm whether or not the woman was dead, she ran. That was several nights....weeks?...ago. Now, she was back again doing the very same thing. The drunken man started walking towards his destination. Not wanting him to get too far, she ran towards him. With little effort, she collapsed on top of him. His blood tasted gross but she wasn't stopping until she got her fill. A few minutes passed and the man went limp in her arms. Pulling her mouth from his neck, she got a good look at him. He didn't look much older than herself....not that knew how old she was. His hair was a very light blond.......almost white..... Suddenly, her head started pounding, causing her to fall back on the wet ground. "Please stop." Her hands clawed down her face as if to stop the pain. There no use though. The stabbing pain continued until everything went black.... OOC: Yes, this is Katia. No new character.... |
