"Well if it isn't little Sammie! Little Sam! Or maybe not so little these days. Look how you've grown! Sam is all grown up. Daddy must be proud!" It was hard for Samantha to control her emotions. Erica was exactly the way she remembered: still as insane, still as playful in that creepy manner and still as full of contempt for people like her. The feelings were mutual. When the crazy vampire actually tapped her head with her wand, Sam very nearly struck with a curse purely on instinct. Nevertheless, she kept her cool, for a change; Samantha was still quite tired and she wasn't in the mood for a duel with Erica Winters tonight. Thus, rather than strike out angrily, Sam opted for the same approach she'd used on Faye Gallagher. "Yeah, it's been so long since we first met, hasn't it?" She said with a sweet smile on her face, but sounding icy. "I'm graduating from Hogwarts this summer, did you know? But it still seems like only yesterday since I last laid eyes on you, Erica." As much as she hated to admit it, that last bit was actually true. The last time Samantha had seen her had been at the battle at the Forbidden Forest; Sam still had a scar from the curse Erica had hit her with that day. "But wait...is this my welcome home party? Just you? I have to say I'm a little sad. I'd hoped for more. Maybe your father, that kid of mine, your uncle maybe. Still, I guess I should be happy with the almighty Samantha Moody. Am I even worthy to be in your presence?" That laugh... It still sent chills down Sam's spine. No matter how much she tried to pretend she was relaxed, Samantha remained on guard - just as Erica undoubtedly was. With this woman, you couldn't be too careful. "Wellll, no. But I suppose I can make an exception - just for today, mind you," Sam said, still smiling that sweet smile, as though she was giving Erica a real treat. "So where have you been lately?" She asked innocently. Of course, thanks to Xavier, Sam had some suspicions of where Erica had been. She'd either kept herself really well hidden somewhere in England, or she'd been abroad. But Samantha knew she couldn't let anything slip about what Xavier had told the Order. |

"Yeah, it's been so long since we first met, hasn't it? I'm graduating from Hogwarts this summer, did you know? But it still seems like only yesterday since I last laid eyes on you, Erica." Erica grinned, exposing fangs that had dealt so much death over recent months. Compared to how she once looked, Erica was no longer gaunt. Her eyes had a fire about them, and although she was pale, she wasn't sickly. She'd fed well since she'd been away, very well. Where once there was just skin and bone, now there was flesh, muscle and sinew. She let her tongue lap gently at her fangs before she stretched her arms out above her head. "It has indeed be a long time, and yet still you're alive. It really is a miracle. You've even lived long enough to graduate. I'm surprised. Next I'm sure you'll be telling everyone that you're getting married and expecting a litter of yet more Moodys." Erica stopped for a second, cocking her head as if she was thinking. Her brows creased as she looked closer at Sam. "Or maybe..." She said as she leaned in closer, "Maybe you're not the marrying type?" With a flick of her hand as if the whole subject was of no consequence, Erica spun on the spot to look out across the village once more. She should have felt exposed, with her back to her enemy, but yet Erica was totally relaxed. She let out a sigh, breathing in the scent on the air. So many people, so many opportunities. The Moody's were an honorable family. Even Xavier was a man of honor. No Moody would ever attack even their bitterest rival whilst their back was turned. They considered it cheap and dirty. Erica on the other hand wouldn't hesitate to kill from behind. Unsuspected and stealthy. The Moody's honor would kill them in the end. Their enemies most probably failed to see things the same way. "So where have you been lately?" Erica turned again to look at Sam. Her eyes fixing the young girls with a stare that had broken so many before her. "Ahh, isn't that the burning question? Where have I been? Maybe I didn't go anywhere!" Erica laughed again, making patterns with her toes in the rough dirt under foot. "Maybe..." she continued, staring at the ground, "Maybe I decided to travel. See some of the world, taste what the world has to offer." "Ah, but you wouldn't understand!" Erica said almost with a pout. "I couldn't expect you to understand the subtle differences in taste between the cultures of this world. It's knowledge wasted on you...Like so much." Turning back to the village, Erica's mind wandered to those that had driven her into her exile in the first place. Those that she would have her revenge upon slowly and painfully. Samantha's father was top of her list. The vampire put a hand into her pocket and pulled out a small piece of blank tattered parchment. With a smirk, she began to move her wand backwards and forwards across it. Already she was forming a plan. One where Caels blood would stain the corridors of his beloved Hogwarts castle. One where he would scream for forgiveness right before she tore his throat out in front of his family. Sam was all but forgotten as Erica watched the words appear on the parchment. |

"It has indeed be a long time, and yet still you're alive. It really is a miracle. You've even lived long enough to graduate. I'm surprised. Next I'm sure you'll be telling everyone that you're getting married and expecting a litter of yet more Moodys. Or maybe... Maybe you're not the marrying type?" Samantha's eyes bored into Erica's as she came closer. She wasn't going to let this vampire provoke her. Not anymore. It had, indeed, been a long time since they'd met and Sam was not the same girl either. And she didn't mean her skills. Whether it was just maturity setting in or not, Samantha no longer flamed up as easily. She wasn't doing anything stupid, yet she felt more certain of herself than before. Thus, by the time Erica finished speaking, Sam merely snorted derisively. "Oh, you don't need to worry on that front. Didn't you know? Boys aren't really my thing," she said, and quite casually so. She had never really tossed out that piece of information like that and certainly not to Erica Winters of all people, but she couldn't quite give a shit at the moment. Like Sam cared what she thought of her preferences. And now it was time to play this the other way around. "I suppose that's good news for you, huh? I mean, you can't even deal with me and my family now, can you? What if, in a few decades, there are... How did you put it?" Sam grinned coldy. "A 'litter of yet more Moodys' who wouldn't mind putting you back in Azkaban? Or just sending you to the nearest tanning bed?" Just because Samantha wasn't in the mood for a duel, didn't mean she was going to let Erica have all the fun and play along with her. There was too much of a history between them for that - and Sam had waited too long for this. "Ahh, isn't that the burning question? Where have I been? Maybe I didn't go anywhere! Maybe... Maybe I decided to travel. See some of the world, taste what the world has to offer. Ah, but you wouldn't understand! I couldn't expect you to understand the subtle differences in taste between the cultures of this world. It's knowledge wasted on you...Like so much." "Fine, Your Royal Bloodiness, keep your secrets." She rolled her eyes. Samantha's contempt for Erica only grew as she turned her back on her and merely watched the village. Sam's fingers twitched. Oh, it was so tempting to just shoot her now... Right in the back. One quick Killing Curse and she'd never have to look at that annoying face again... One quick Killing Curse and no one innocent would ever die at Erica's hands. But she didn't. She knew Erica was too quick, especially now that she was a vampire. Even if she shot a curse now, there was no guarantee she would hit. It would only guarantee a fight. But Sam could barely stop herself from laughing at Erica's little speech. Normally, she wouldn't have, but Xavier's information changed things. It was one thing to listen to her crazy rants when she hadn't had a clue where she'd been or why she had disappeared; it was something else entirely to listen to her speak like this when Sam knew more about the situation than Erica thought she did. She knew Xavier had refused to kill her on Lord Voldemort's order and instead helped her escape from the Death Eaters. Samantha steadied herself and kept her cool, however. She knew she couldn't let Erica know. If she knew who told her, it was possible knowledge of Xavier's betrayal to Voldemort could leak out. She took a step closer when she saw that Erica was doing something. "What's that? A map of all your favourite holiday spots?" Sam asked, trying to peer at the parchment. |

"Oh, you don't need to worry on that front. Didn't you know? Boys aren't really my thing. I suppose that's good news for you, huh? I mean, you can't even deal with me and my family now, can you? What if, in a few decades, there are... How did you put it? A 'litter of yet more Moodys' who wouldn't mind putting you back in Azkaban? Or just sending you to the nearest tanning bed?" Erica faked a look of shock and horror at dearest Sammy's little sudden confession. Truth was, it has been a rumor for such a long time that most people presumed it to be true anyway. Still, Erica was never one to let a juicy piece of information like that go to waste. "Oh my! So little Samantha plays for the other team huh? Can't say I didn't see that coming. I'm sure daddy dearest is ever so supporting. He does know, doesn't he? I mean...I wouldn't like to accidentally say something I shouldn't now." Erica covered her mouth with her hand as she stared at Sam. "Better not to speak maybe. But...honestly," The vampire let her hand fall away and fixed her eyes firmly on the young girl once more. This time when she spoke there was no playfulness in her tone. She was cold and threatening, her voice like ice as her gaze never shifted from Sam. "Fill the world with Moody's for all I care. Just know that one by one I will slaughter them all. The rivers and oceans will run red with your families blood. Children will scream as I massacre their parents, and your father and you will watch as the Moody line is wiped from existence." For long moments, Erica simply stared at the girl. All the feelings she'd had before she'd left were returning, only now so much stronger than before. She'd kill them all, each and every person that ever stood in her way. Cael and Sam would be first. By reflex, her hand tightened on her wand, and her lips curled into a snarl. It would be so easy. One quick move and she could slice through the girls neck like it was made of paper. It could all be over in just that single faltering heartbeat. But she couldn't. Erica had greater plans than that. It wouldn't pay to kill the one that you wanted to use. After all, alive, Sam was a much better bargaining chip than a simple corpse would be. Cael would do anything to protect his daughter, of that Erica was certain. "What's that? A map of all your favourite holiday spots?" Having finished enchanting the parchment, Erica forced herself to look at Sam with a smile. All in good time. She told herself, Be patient and her blood will cover your hands. "This my dear little mouse is a little something I'd like you to take to your father." Erica held out the tattered bit of parchment. It was stained and torn, but the message enchanted upon it was clear enough. "Caelestis Moody, remember me? Your family will be first. Then I'll come for you. Sleep well. E" |

"Oh my! So little Samantha plays for the other team huh? Can't say I didn't see that coming. I'm sure daddy dearest is ever so supporting. He does know, doesn't he? I mean...I wouldn't like to accidentally say something I shouldn't now." "In fact, he doesn't. But go ahead and tell him if that makes you so happy. See if I care," Samantha stated carelessly, casually running a hand through her hair. God, Erica was so annoying... Still, Sam wouldn't mind. She hadn't really tried to hide her preferences, but she hadn't been very clear about it either. Some people knew and many more suspected it, but compared to what other secrets Samantha had, this one was the least of her worries. A part of her thought she might even feel more relaxed about it. "Better not to speak maybe. But...honestly. Fill the world with Moody's for all I care. Just know that one by one I will slaughter them all. The rivers and oceans will run red with your families blood. Children will scream as I massacre their parents, and your father and you will watch as the Moody line is wiped from existence." Sam rolled her eyes yet again. "Good God, get a writer, Erica. You're getting more cliché by the minute. But... honestly," she added, mimicking the vampire's words and icy tone. She met Erica's gaze without fear and the difference from the person Samantha had been the last time they had spoken became more pronounced than ever. There was a hint of something menacing in Sam's emerald eyes, but it wasn't as wild or uncontrolled as all the times before. There was only a steady calm. "What makes you think I won't have wiped you from existence before then?" Both women were growing more tense. By now, Samantha was aching to put her training into practice. Ever since that day they'd met at Knockturn Alley, she and Erica hadn't been able to stand each other. But it wasn't until that first battle at Hogwarts when the two of them became mortal enemies. She swore that one day, it would be her that would take Erica down... "This my dear little mouse is a little something I'd like you to take to your father." Sam snatched the parchment out of Erica's hands, shooting her another contemptuous look. As soon as she finished reading it, she smirked. "My pleasure." She refrained from adding the fact that catching her father was off-guard was about the only advantage Erica had up until tonight - and now she'd gone off and blown it. Samantha wasn't about to let herself get frightened by this vampire now. So many had made similar claims (Xavier, of course, but some of which not even Erica knew about), yet it was an undeniable fact that no one had so much as landed a jinx on Sam's mother or her siblings. |

"My pleasure." Erica smirked as Sam took the note from her hand. Sure she'd lost the element of surprise now, but with Sam no doubt just itching to go and tell her father that she'd seen his best vampire buddy back in town, it was hardly a huge loss. She wished she could be there; to see the look on his face when he realised that she wasn't dead like he probably hoped so much. Would he be just the tiniest bit afraid? He should be. There was a passion and a fire about Erica now that hadn't been there before. Events over the last few months had left her scarred in more ways than one, and they had led to her no longer being the weak woman she was before. Her smirk widened as she let herself imagine what Cael would think when he read her note. Catching up was always such fun! Finally, she let out a long breath and look upward into the night sky. Stars flickered in and out from behind the clouds, and the moon was just a hazy glow. She'd looked up at the sky almost every night that she'd been away. It looked no different now that she was back in England, but it felt different. No matter where she'd been and what she'd been doing, this was always her home. She'd run once, but now she was back. This was her territory, these were her woods, and the fight was hers to win. "Well Sam," She said as she brought her gaze down to the young woman once again. "It's been oh so wonderful to catch up with you. I've really missed our little chats since I've been away. We'll have to do it again sometime. Maybe over a little "something" to eat?" Erica laughed, but the words reminded her that she was indeed getting more than a little peckish. How many days had it been since she'd eaten properly? 3, 4 maybe? It really was time she found herself a proper meal. Erica waved once to Sam, licking her lips hungrily before she took a few paces back and dropped from the edge of the steep embankment that looked down upon the village. Her robes fluttered slightly in the wind as she dropped down out of sight. A few moments later, and a black Raven flew up through the trees and away towards the village. The moonlight shone like water on it's feathers as it beat it's wings lazily. It looked back once, gave a long mournful cry and vanished into the trees beyond. |

"Well Sam. It's been oh so wonderful to catch up with you. I've really missed our little chats since I've been away. We'll have to do it again sometime. Maybe over a little "something" to eat?" Samantha contented herself with merely giving Erica a menacing smirk. What did she have left to say to that vampire? She watched with some satisfaction as Erica let herself drop from the edge and disappeared into the distance in the form of a raven. "I'll be seeing you..." Sam thought to herself, staring into the direction the dark bird had taken. However, as the minutes passed, she remained standing there beneath that night sky, the air warm with summer. Where would they be once she and Erica met again? For some reason, Samantha was more aware of the passage of time than ever. Some things had changed so much since the last time she and Erica spoke, whereas other things had remained the same. Soon Samantha would graduate; in only a few months, she would start her Auror Training. Would that dreadful battle have already occurred by then? Would Voldemort have fallen? And what would come after? Would it really be the peace that everyone had been hoping for? Somehow, Sam doubted it. But whatever would be the case, Sam was certain that Erica would be there to make her life miserable. Raising her hand, she stared down at the parchment again. Before she knew it, she had crushed it into a ball and shoved it in a pocket of her robes. Oh, well. It had seemed too good to be true, having Erica Winters out of her life, disappearing so suddenly and so smoothly. At least now, Samantha still had the chance to put Erica out of her own misery. Twirling her wand between her fingers, Sam finally turned away from the sight of Hogsmeade in the distance and walked down the mountain. A bit of that older anger was flaring in Sam's eyes... She supposed she finally understood how her father and Xavier must've felt: the world was simply not big enough for both Erica Winters and Samantha Moody. Smiling to herself, Sam disappeared in the darkness... |
