Coming back to the castle was still something that Dayla didn't feel ready for. But her mother had got an owl from her step father that afternoon saying Dayla had to come up as soon as possible to explain her sudden departure from the country and drop off some over due homework. She hadn't really wanted to admit to Caleb that the reason she was leaving was pretty much her need to run away from her problems. As she had been walking up the drive after catching the knight bus she could practically imagine the lecture he would give her. including a lot of mentions of her N.E.W.Ts, that her love life couldn't be the center of her world all the time not to mention the fact that running away from her problems wouldn't solve them any faster. And she knew all that but she needed to just have some time to act and not let her thoughts take her over. To not worry about what she was going to do now that Tallen had pretty much pushed her away and left her to avoid Shane after his behaviour. He had been sending her owls constantly since that night and yet she refused to reply only teling him after the first one to leave her alone. She knew the likelihood of her melting if he came to see her would be high and yet she knew she was so much better than that. She only had to remember the massive lecture Tallen had given Shane that night to remind herself to stay strong.

After managing to catch Caleb and get the lecture over with she assured him she would be careful in Rome and was perfectly safe with Mely and Moni there to look after her. Though he had never done so before due to her awkwardness after he and her mother married he had hugged her and kissed her forehead, telling her to call her mother if she needed anything or got into any trouble. She had then spent what felt like another hour walking around the castle, dropping off homework to her professor's offices as well as notes of apology. She had then found her way to the Gryffindor tower to check through her trunk in her dorm and see if there was anything else she wanted to take with her to Rome, including picking out her favourite corsets and doc martens which were now stowed safely in the messenger bag she had used to carry her homework.

But instead of running off the grounds to catch the knightbus back to London she made her way to the common room and sat in a chair looking through her copy of Antigone by Sophocles, the type of tragedy she needed to remind her that her own life wasn't that bad.
Still even as she sat there all the memories of her and Tallen kept flooding to the back of her mind while they were there....including their first meeting. Merlin, was there no where where he didn't come into her head? Sighing, she folded down a corner of the page when the messenger was telling of how Creon discovered Haemon and Antigone both dead and let the book fall to rest on top of her bag, staring up at the ceiling of the tower. She just hoped she was doing the right thing by getting some breathing space before submerging into her studies.

It had been an uneventful day. Every possible moment Cas had had the opportunity to cause some chaos, someone had distracted him. Someone looked at him, or pushed past him, or Merlin forbid, talked to him. Someone really didn't want him to cause any trouble today. So, Cas had retired from his mission for the day and resigned to wandering the halls without aim.

He thought about contacting Dayla again, seeing if she was alright after whatever fiasco had happened at the ball. Cas was really curious. What had Tallen done to her? Or vice-versa? Or...something. WHAT HAD HAPPENED? It seemed that everyone was mum and they were going to stay that way. Tallen outright ignored any inquisitions Cas had about the ball, Dayla hadn't really responded to his last text, and the whole world was turning upside down. What was really so important that they couldn't tell him?? Why was he out of the loop?

Sighing, Cas made his way up the stairs to the Gryffindor tower, whistling some pointless tune along the way. With a quick mutter of the password, he entered the common room, only to find Dayla sitting there in one of the big chairs. Smiling, he hopped on over to the couch and threw himself across it, only propping his head up so that he could see Dayla.

"So Queen of darkness. You've decided to grace us with your presence? What brings you back to our humble abode?" He grinned. Cas knew it was going to be hard to extract any kind of information from Dayla. He'd have to start slow...and very much like himself. "You know, it's kind of boring around here without you. I heard you're off to merlin knows where."

She knew that Cas was curious about what happened. That he almost wished that he had done as Tallen asked and come to the ball to help her. But she knew that if he had been there she wouldn't be able to look him in the eye without cringing. She didn't want any of her friends to see how pathetic she could be when Tallen was involved....well Nicole had already seen her at her weakest and so had Mely and Monique but Cas and Tristan she refused to cry in front of. Still part of her wondered why Tallen hadn't just told Cas what had happened? Wasn't he proud that he had punched Shane and in turn stood up for her? Or was it a case of he wanted to keep his word from that night and distance himself from her? Then again maybe Tallen didn't want to admit to Cas that he loved Dayla enough to hurt someone on her behalf? To her it was more a case of if she told Cas what had happened she had some idea of what his reaction would be and she honestly didn't want a live demonstration of the laughter and gloating.

Dayla was snapped from her thoughts at the sound of the portrait hole opening and tilted her head back so she could see who it was, restraining the urge to groan when she saw who it was. Not that she didn't love Cas [in a purely platonic way] but sometimes he got on her nerves just as much as her half siblings. Which she was sure he would be deeply thrilled to know. She sighed and watched as he threw himself on to the couch with the grace of Mitzi after she'd had too much food and propped up his head so that they could look at each other. Wow this was going to be a treat, being nagged to death by him was as bad as being nagged by Evan on one of his shitty days.

"So Queen of darkness. You've decided to grace us with your presence? What brings you back to our humble abode? You know, it's kind of boring around here without you. I heard you're off to merlin knows where."

The redhead rolled her eyes, like he honestly thought she didn't know what he was doing? She wasn't stupid. She knew he was going to try any approach possible to find out what he needed to know from that night. But she wasn't going to make it easy for him of that much she was certain. he would have to try a lot harder than that.
"Queen of darkness? Wow is that a new nickname Cas? I never knew you cared so much to give me a nickname. Makes me feel bad that the only ones I can come up with for you involve a lot of bad words." Dayla said with a slight smirk, pushing her legs over one chair arm and brushing her fringe out her eyes. She should try and get a trim or hair cut before she left the country.

"But as for what brings me to the castle on the highlands its as simple as an owl from my dearest step father. Then again I do owe him a little bit of respect for letting me stay down in London for nearly two weeks without a lecture." Dayla shrugged, "Regardless.....I'm sorry that it's been boring.....but I dare say you've been giving Shane hell from what I heard....."
She couldn't help but grimace when she said Shane's name, immediately avoiding Cas' gaze as she picked at the stray stitching on her dragon hyde jacket. But she immediately pushed herself back to normal. She needed to find some common ground to think about....but it was hard to find it when Tallen was often the other direction. Thank god she was getting out of this situation for a while.

"...But yeah I am leaving. I'll only tell you where and when if you're a good boy."

“Ha, ha. Very funny Your Majesty. You have such a wonderful sense of humor!” Cas replied sarcastically. “Of course I care soooooo much. Who doesn’t love you?” Ok, maybe that was a stupid question. Maybe not stupid, but it could really hurt Dayla. She looked fragile enough, it was obvious that talking of love could easily break her, and that was something Cas did not want to do.

He was curious though, to know the details. To understand what love was putting her through, if indeed, Dayla was in love. Cas was not skilled at reading Tallen, what little he saw of him lately. The man walked around stone-faced with great big circles under his eyes. His humor had completely disappeared, and he seemed nervous. As if something were looming ahead of him and he couldn’t avoid it. If Cas didn’t know it, he would have thought Tallen was trying to figure out how to save the world from Armageddon.

"But as for what brings me to the castle on the highlands its as simple as an owl from my dearest step father. “Huh…the queen is following orders? Now that’s something new. Did he give you a lecture? Or say anything profound, or life changing? Anything?” Cas smirked at the mention of Shane. “Well, yes, and no. I don’t really like talking to him that much. I never liked him from the beginning Your Majesty. But you should see the shape he’s in. Honestly, I don’t know why he doesn’t use magic and heal his wounds. His face is all smashed up. I don’t know why though. He looks terrible though. Absolutely miserable…And….I may have charmed a few things here and there that have caused him pain and trouble…”

"...But yeah I am leaving. I'll only tell you where and when if you're a good boy."

Cas sat up, ears perked and listening. “Anything my Queen. Anything for you. I’ll be a good boy. Like always. You can trust me!” Pft. Right. Cas, good? And trustworthy? That was new. And impossible. Quite impossible. But still, he might be able to get something out of Dayla. Some information. He hadn’t let pass the momentary look of pain that had flashed across Dayla’s face. The wound was still fresh. He just needed to pick off the scab. Not literally. Ew.

“Ha, ha. Very funny Your Majesty. You have such a wonderful sense of humor! Of course I care soooooo much. Who doesn’t love you?”

"Well at least someone loves me and will admit to it." Dayla murmured, sighing as she raked her long finger nails through her hair. Even if he was only joking he was the only real guy in her life who had admitted to loving her in some way. Why wasn't Tallen like Cas? She'd had to found he loved her from behind a bathroom door when he was yeling his head off at her ex. Pathetic really. Still she could feel her porcelain heart crackind but refused to lt it show on her face. Just once she would like to not cry.

She knew he was curious. Curious could have been Cas' damn middle name since he was always snooping around about something or another but what she wouldn't give to make him drop it. She wasn't completely over what had hapened in anyway shape or form. When alone she would still hear Tallen's voice in her head over and over 'I love her', feel his emotionless gaze on her face when she had immerged from that bathroom saying nothing but looking like he'd had the life kicked out of him. Stil it didn't stop her loving him, and it was killing her so much that she had to make herself put up this fake charade. hiding behind a party girl image. But maybe that was what she was destined to do. Hide. Be someone she obviously wasn't to keep everyone away. She couldn't put up with any more complications.

“Huh…the queen is following orders? Now that’s something new. Did he give you a lecture? Or say anything profound, or life changing? Anything? Well, yes, and no. I don’t really like talking to him that much. I never liked him from the beginning Your Majesty. But you should see the shape he’s in. Absolutely miserable…And….I may have charmed a few things here and there that have caused him pain and trouble…”

"Well the queen has to when Said step father is the person who could fail her. But yeah he gave me a lecture.....the usual.... N.E.W.Ts important blah blah blah, social life not so important, blah blah blah, running away from your problems is bad blah blah bah. I think he just felt like he had to before I left." But when the subject came to Shane Dayla looked down, her throat seemed to close up with tears that wanted to break free. He was wearing his battle wounds to remind himself of what he'd done to her. She remembered him saying that in one of his owls. He wasn't going to let himself heal until she was back with him even if it meant getting fired or being in constant pain. He knew he deserved it. She bit her lip as she brushed some hair out her face, giving Cas a look when he said he was charming some things to make his pain worse, not like he didn't deserve of course. Watching him sit up she knew she'd said something of interest to him. Well well, no surprise there.

“Anything my Queen. Anything for you. I’ll be a good boy. Like always. You can trust me!”

"You can drop the queen bit now Cas." Dayla sighed rubbing her forehead with her fingers as she looked at him. She could feel a migraine coming on from this game already. She was getting too old for this. Or it might have been an aftermath from Sabrina's hissy fit after she told her she was going to Rome without her. Whatever.
"Look I'm going to Rome this week....I need some time to pull myself back to normal.....surrounded by some hot Italian guys and bottles of Jager. Though Mely and Moni are coming with. You can come too but you'll probably be like the only straight guy there....." The thought of Cas being the only straight guy there was a hilarious one, she could imagine the look on his face when he saw two guys kissing. Ah it made her feel better already.

"Well at least someone loves me and will admit to it."

"Oh come on! Whoever doesn't love you isn't worth your time. Look at me. I drop them like flies. I have girls hang on my arm and then I drop them after I figure that their black, mangled hearts have no room for real love. Don't waste your time." Cas was giving relationship advice? What? That was just plain weird. And extremely silly for him. Dayla knew way more about the opposite sex and what love was really like. It seemed like a bitch. He just hoped to Merlin it wasn't always going to be so.

"Well the queen has to when Said step father is the person who could fail her. But yeah he gave me a lecture.....the usual.... N.E.W.Ts important blah blah blah, social life not so important, blah blah blah, running away from your problems is bad blah blah bah. I think he just felt like he had to before I left."

"Ew. He pulled that card? Really. N.E.W.Ts aren't that important. Not when I see you not doing something...intellectual. No offense! It's just...you seem like the kind of girl who'll be having fun all her life and making a living elsewhere." Cas shrugged. "Running away is actually the perfect thing to do. Once you realize you ran away and you're being ridiculous, you'll go back and face the problems. If you don't run from them, then you're screwed."

"Take me for example. I run. A lot. From professors. I run and hide and make sure they don't give me detentions. But then I realize, if I run, I can't get back into the great hall and eat. See my dilemma? So I eventually realize I must turn myself in. For the benefit of living." Cas grinned. It sounded so stupid and simple, but it made perfect sense to him.

"You can drop the queen bit now Cas. Look I'm going to Rome this week....I need some time to pull myself back to normal.....surrounded by some hot Italian guys and bottles of Jager. Though Mely and Moni are coming with. You can come too but you'll probably be like the only straight guy there....."

Cas coughed dryly. Hum. Only straight guy? Ouch. Well, there were plenty of girls in italy to distract him, right? And wouldn't it be nice to see the motherland again? Ah, perfect. He had to go. And not only for that reason. If he didn't, Tallen would murder him for allowing Dayla to get herself into whatever trouble she might. That, and he didn't want her to get raped or droppoed on the side of the street or anything.

"I'm going! Duh! It'll be great to go back home for once! That, and I love a good party. Though, you're going to need to work on the no straight guys bit. Find some, I don't care. But your parties are starting to creep me out."

"Wish I'd met you before I met....Tal." She paused, not even able to make herself say his name. Better to drop it and move on. "Wish I'd known you before I go so fixated on being with someone. Thing is I'm often sure I'm the one with the black mangled heart Cas....and no-one will ever want me for that." Dayla sighed shrugging her shoulders and picking at the fraying stitching of her jeans over her left knee. She knew there was little likelihood of her listening to Cas' Advice even though like with Nicole's it made some sense. It was a bitch.....a major major bitch. And apparently having male friends to give an insight into the other side wasn't going to stop that.

"Ew. He pulled that card? Really. N.E.W.Ts aren't that important. Not when I see you not doing something...intellectual. No offense! It's just...you seem like the kind of girl who'll be having fun all her life and making a living elsewhere. Running away is actually the perfect thing to do. "Yeah he did. I mean I can see where he is coming from to a point but none of the stuff I've learned this year will have much impact on the careers I have in my mind. Tattooists/Pierciers and Models don't really need to know details about the giant wars or the several different potion uses for a unicorn. I probably won't even use magic after. I'll just become some makeshift muggle. Problem with me and running away is....I do it way too much. I must take after my mother's side of the family. Everytime something goes wrong they run...but they do always face it in the end. And I will....face them I just need some time to clear my head." Dayla said softly, ignoring the way Cas went on about how he avoided professors. Not that she was really surprised.

Though she couldn't help but grin a little when he coughed. He obviously wasn't too keen on the fact that he was going to be the only straight guy there. But Cas being Cas he would probably manage to find some other girls to drag along. but as she watched him it seemed like he was taking into account more than just his decision for going. He was thinking that if he didn't go and Tallen found out he would get shitty at him for not being there to keep an eye on her. To make sure she didn't do anything she would regret. Immediately she wanted to change her mind. She didn't want a spy of Tallen's watching her and telling him how miserable and self destructive she was when he obviously didn't want to know. But it would be useful to have someone around to make sure she didn't go too far. Not to mention it would put Caleb and her mothr's mind at ease.

"I'm going! Duh! It'll be great to go back home for once! That, and I love a good party. Though, you're going to need to work on the no straight guys bit. Find some, I don't care. But your parties are starting to creep me out."

"Looks like my trip may get a bit more interesting then. But we'll be staying at my mother's place....so you may have to share a bedroom." She couldn't help but smirk but rolling her eyes and shaking her head. "No that wouldn't be fair when you're doing me a favour.....you can have my parents' room.....or Evan's. I know you got freaked at the last party but....I think there's some young male neighbours around....or I could just go to a bar and grab the first drunk guy I see. Who knows....it could be fun and interesting!"

"Wish I'd met you before I met....Tal. Wish I'd known you before I go so fixated on being with someone. Thing is I'm often sure I'm the one with the black mangled heart Cas....and no-one will ever want me for that."

"Uhm. Reality check? I'm a useless guy. I already have problems of my own, and I obviously make a terrible guy, even to like." Cas frowne, thinking of what was happening lately between him and Asteria. It was inevitable. Eventually, someone was going to get killed. Most likely him. "So...you want to tell me what happened now?" Cas stood up and moved closer to Dayla. "After all, you had to stop yourself from saying Tallen's name a couple seconds ago. And the context it was in...I can go try to beat him up for you? Though...I'd probably come back in a body bag."

"I don't know about you, but I think I'm going to pass on that one. I like being alive and able to cause Chaos. So...yeah. I can yell at him though. If you want. Or I can...I don't know. He's just shut himself up in his stupid study and only comes out to go to bed. He even eats in there."It was sad and pathetic. Regal Tallen had become a mess. He hadn't even shaved for days. Eww.

Everytime something goes wrong they run...but they do always face it in the end. And I will....face them I just need some time to clear my head."

"Clear your head in Rome then? What a perfect getaway. So what, drinking and partying and making you feel even more miserable is going to help you face your problems? I'm pretty sure it's just going to make you avoid them even more." Cas shrugged. "I guess I'm your constant reminder of a better life over here. I'm like you...light at the end of the tunnel," he joked. "Look at me, so shiny and bright. Don't you just love me?"

"Looks like my trip may get a bit more interesting then. But we'll be staying at my mother's place....so you may have to share a bedroom. Cas passed a horrified expression, and then melted into a more content, relaxed one. "Eh. Italian boys that have hit puberty are kind of...snobby. I'll find some girls, " Cas winked, " I always do, right?" Yeah, he could find some girls. And then have Asteria freak out at him some more. Oh, he was digging his own grave. Well, why not make it deeper then? He's already done with half of it anyways.

"And you, need to promise no weird stuff. No dangerous stuff either. Think of all the people that will kill me if you get hurt. Merlin. You have such a posse. And that little girl I've heard so much about? I bet she could beat me up too. " Well, this wasn't 100% true. But still. He was making a point.

"Oh. And silk bedsheets. I need my beauty sleep. Plenty of it. And a butler. I need a butler. And a pretty maid I can flirt with. And I have a set meal plan for the day. And a mauve Bentley. And..." Cas grinned. He wasn't serious. He never was. As much as he'd grown accustomed to his privileged life, he could go and live on the streets again without a problem.

"I wouldn't say Useless Cas. Besides everyone has their own problems that doesn't make them a terrible person. But as for telling you....I still don't think it's a good idea. I mean, sure if I tell you it may seem like it was nothing but...but that was one of those nights I'm just trying to forget." Sighed Dayla, hugging her legs to her chest as Cas moved closer. She looked down when he began to go on about Tallen, forcing a slight smile on her face as he offered to beat him up or yell at him. But hearing how zombie like Tallen was becoming only seemed to make her heart ache even more. She wanted to yell at Cas to shut up about it but being his friend it wouldn't make any difference. Instead as she picked at the ends of her hair she rolled her eyes before looking up at him.
"Cas I don't want you to get involved. Honestly I love you like a brother and I know you just want to find out what happened to make both me and Tal.....him miserable but maybe it's just better for the two of us to just accept it. We can never be together...no matter how much it hurts....and maybe in the long run we'll be better off. He'll find someone else to fit into his lifestyle....and me....well if Rome goes well maybe I'll have someone else on my arm."

"Clear your head in Rome then? What a perfect getaway. So what, drinking and partying and making you feel even more miserable is going to help you face your problems? "Look at me, so shiny and bright. Don't you just love me?"

"Exactly my thoughts. Being in Rome is all about having a good time for me and trying to push away all my thoughts of the problem. But yep there you'll be a reminder of everything." Dayla joked, sticking her tongue out at him when he mentioned loving him.

"Eh. Italian boys that have hit puberty are kind of...snobby. I'll find some girls, I always do, right? And you, need to promise no weird stuff. No dangerous stuff either. "Some are.....but I doubt that will stop me from acting a little unlike me. But no weird and dangerous stuff? Cas I can't promise you both! You know what I'm like, if I can't have one I'm guaranteed to have the other. But fine...I promise I'll be careful if it puts your mind at ease....but I will make sure you don't get blamed if something happens.....the family..the gang and Sabrina won't blame or hurt you." Dayla said with a sly smile, brushing her hair out her face, though she rolled her eyes when he began to joke around with the lifestyle he wanted. "Well don't expect anything over the top."

She got to her feet and kissed his cheek, the way a mother would her son and cast him a smile as she picked up her bag, pushing Antigone into the depths of clothing and parchment. "I should probably go and finish packing, but the others are meeting at my parents' place tomorrow in the morning so. I'll see you then." Yet as she put the strap of her bag over her shoulder and walked towards the portrait hole she could feel her heart still aching at the knowledge that Tallen was so down and she could do nothing about it. She just needed to relax.....to have her friends around her who really cared and party. That was all she needed.
