IC Information

General Information

  1. First/Middle/Last name: Ezequiel Vasco Quintana
  2. Nickname: El
  3. Gender: Male
  4. Birthplace: Barcelona, Spain
  5. Hometown: Torquay, U.K.
  6. Birthday: 4th of October, 2001
  7. Age: 15
Wizarding Information

  1. Blood status: Half-blood
  2. Wand Description: Beech; 15 1/4 inch; Thestral hair. Very thin for concealment and excellent for hexes.
  3. Pet: Bat named Verena
  4. Broomstick: Nimbus 2010
Physical Appearance

  1. Hair (style): Black and messy. Ezequiel's hair is quite long in the back and several strands tend to fall in his face aswell.
  2. Eyes: Large, green eyes. The shade of green is much darker than most people's.
  3. Skin colour: Surprisingly pale.
  4. Build: About 5'10" and rather thin.
  5. Clothing: Despite being partially of Muggle descent, Ezequiel has always preferred wizarding robes, disliking clothes that fit tightly to his skin. He likes his Hogwarts robes and can often be found wearing them, even outside of classes. When he isn't wearing those, Ezequiel has a number of expensive ones of fine quality, usually either white, grey or black. Some think of him as rather vain, but El is simply proud of his magical heritage and takes care of his appearance.
  6. Other distinguishing features: No physical traits, but he very often keeps his hands in his pockets out of habit.
Personality

  1. General Personality [min. 100 words]: The first word that springs to mind concerning Ezequiel's personality is 'gloomy'. He constantly seems dispirited or melancholic, roaming the corridors with an emotionless expression on his face, though he always stands tall. Even in the face of unexpected events, it's tough to get a clear reaction out of Ezequiel, good or bad; if he's angry, he doesn't show it and should you ever see him smile, you should consider yourself very lucky. El is very restrained and never speaks without having something important to say, unless when he's spoken to. However, on those rare occasions that he does speak up or someone takes the trouble to strike up a conversation with him, many are surprised at his way with words: soft, polite, respectable. El would be pleasant to listen to if he were to show some more emotion. On a similar note, Ezequiel is very mellow and relaxed; a lot of people consider him to be slow and boring, but the eyes can oft deceive. For beneath El's emotionless exterior lies both a quick-thinking, analytical mind aswell as a meandering, philosophical nature. In the end, I guess you could say that Ezequiel is impassive and removed, to his own suffering and that of others: he's impartial to the cause of Dark wizards and to that of those trying to keep the peace. However, do not underestimate El and take him for a softie: when he truly dislikes you, his anger is ice cold and he does not sympathise at all with any of the (psychological) harm he would do to you.
  2. Best traits:
    - His sharp mind: As evidenced by the results of his magical studies, Ezequiel is a smart one. His brain quickly understands the logic behind something; he grasps onto facts which he then never seems to forget. Not only does El think quickly, but deep aswell. He often wonders about the larger things in life and then continues to try and understand, eventhough he knows he'll only find more questions.
    - His calm behaviour: There are very few people at Hogwarts that can keep their cool as well as Ezequiel. It's very tough to find a weak spot in the defenses he has made for his heart and many that have tried to provoke him, are met only with a lack of interest, a cold remark or silence. Nevertheless, Ezequiel only suppresses his emotions and while it may not seem so, they shimmer beneath the surface. Also, that which keeps out the bad also keeps out the good...
    - His Potion-making skills: While gifted in many forms of magic, Ezequiel's Potion-making skills are especially refined. He has all the traits of a perfect Potioneer: intelligent, subtle and patient. So far, there has not been a single elixir that he's failed to brew and he's not above experimenting to gain better results. In this area, he's definitely above most classmates.
  3. Worst traits:
    - His melancholic nature: Ezequiel doesn't show it, preferring to make others believe that he simply doesn't care about anything, but deep inside, he's quite a depressive fellow. The more he thinks about such questions as the meaning of life, the more Ezequiel realises that his own existence and that of humanity's is insignificant and without purpose. While he would pretend otherwise, even to himself, he is saddened by such things, but cannot change his beliefs. Nor does he seem to gain much happiness out of the things he does - as if life is merely a routine to him.
    - Suppression of his emotions: Ezequiel seems to have a desire to place himself above such petty human things as 'feelings'; showing emotions is something for the weak and naive, that don't understand how others could exploit or hurt them. It is this suppression that enables Ezequiel to judge situations so objectively and always remain calm. But because of it, he is also unable to feel joy and other positive emotions as easily as others. Which leads to the third point on this list...
    - His anti-social behaviour: Ezequiel is a loner in every sense of the word. He is reluctant to open up to anyone and often avoids people. If you talk to him, he will be polite, but it's hard to get him to trust you. And since he's not exactly the most positive or enjoyable of company, most of his fellow students have simply given up on him and left him on his own.
  4. Strengths: Smarts; control of himself; independence; magical skills; languages; flying
  5. Weaknesses: Wants to do everything himself; not the best with animals or people, for that matter; doesn't easily get enthusiastic about something; can sometimes be rather indecisive; Divination (it doesn't seem to be based on any logic to him)
  6. Likes: Warm weather; his home country; nature; being alone; reading; Quidditch; learning some new magical skill; Potion-making
  7. Dislikes: The cold; loud people; crowds; people that believe in stuff without logic or facts; some animals
  8. Hobbies/interests: Reading; Quidditch; long walks; Potion-making
  9. Worst Fear: Himself. Secretly, Ezequiel does not like who he is as a person and avoids facing who he is and what he wants.
Background

  1. History [min. 150 words]: Ezequiel Vasco Quintana was born on a rainy night, October 4th, 2001, in Barcelona, Spain. His father, Alejandro Quintana, was a Muggle, but through his mother, Olga Komorov, he was descended from a long line of pureblooded wizards from Russian, German and Greek origins. The first few years of El's life were rather peaceful, but more and more, the family needed to travel a lot because of Alejandro's job. Because of this, El didn't even have time to make friends (and being rather shy, it was already difficult for him) and he became more quiet and withdrawn as the years went by. The only good thing that came out of it in Ezequiel's opinion was that he learned a great deal of languages, which now include a fluent mastery of Spanish, Russian, English and French and a bit of German, Portugese, Italian, Greek and Latin. However, worse was to come. His father had been unaware that he had married a witch and he wasn't too understanding when Ezequiel's abilities were revealed. El's mother explained everything, but over the coming years, their relationship became more and more strained. Because of this, Ezequiel began to feel guilty and in doubt whether he was 'normal' or should embrace the powers that he had inherited.

When he received a letter from Beauxbatons (which his mother had also attended) on his eleventh birthday, however, Ezequiel chose the magical side, despite his father's objections. There he was later sorted into Meilleur, for the elite students of Beauxbatons, to the delight of his mother. El proved himself to be a talented young man, especially at Potions and wandwork (i.e. such subjects as Transfiguration, Charms and Hexes), but was still inadequate at making friends. He often spent his time alone and while he was usually kind and respectful to those that treated him well, there was always a distance between him and the other students. Still, Ezequiel pretended not to care and functioned well enough to work together with his classmates when necessary. He also developed an interest in Quidditch and even joined one of the school teams. As one might expect from El, his preferred position was always Seeker or Keeper, where he could work alone. Over the next few years, he would continue to lead a relatively normal life, albeit a solitary one.

But in the summer after his fourth year at Beauxbatons, his parents had some news for Ezequiel: they were going to divorce and El would stay with his mother. At first, his mother tried to work as an Assistant Healer in Barcelona but being not as gifted at magic as her son, it didn't look like she would be able to provide an upkeep for the both of them, not to mention Ezequiel's education. However, El received help from his mother's family: her cousin, Livia Vasilyev, had recently moved to the U.K and had a well-paying job at the Ministry of Magic. And as it seemed that the situation was not as chaotic any longer, Livia offered to take in Ezequiel and let him finish his education at Hogwarts. El and his mother agreed, although El never fully trusted Livia and always suspected that some other deal may have been made behind his back.

Nevertheless, he moved to the U.K. and stayed with her at her home in Torquay, in the south of the country, before the new schoolyear started. That September, Ezequiel made his first journey with the Hogwarts Express and got his first sight of Hogwarts Castle. He was then taken aside by the Deputy Headmaster, Caedmon Darke, before the Opening Feast. At the Headmaster's Office, Ezequiel put on the Sorting Hat, who subsequently took a considerable time to determine the new house that he should belong to. According to the hat, El had traits from a lot of houses: a bit of boldness and nobility; loyalty to those whom he truly respected along with a hard-working nature and fair judgment; a very sharp mind; cunning, resourcefulness and pride of his wizarding heritage; talent and a command of others if he tried. Eventually, the struggle boiled down to Ravenclaw and Slytherin. But eventhough Ravenclaw seemed like the best fit for Ezequiel, he found himself to be more attracted to the ideas of Slytherin and consciously chose for Salazar's house. Since then, he has felt quite at home at Hogwarts School, eventhough he acted just as solitary as always. However, Ezequiel continues to impress his teachers and has a good relation with his Head of House.
  2. Family: Ezequiel is an only child and he had a reasonable family life up until now. At first, he and his father got along quite well, eventhough they were very different in personality, but that changed when his father found out about the magical world and El's abilities. El and his mother do love each other very much, but not even to her does he open up much. As for Livia: in truth, Ezequiel can't stand her. While not even he can point it out well, he feels that Livia is constantly playing some sort of elaborate charade and he despises her behaviour. But El being El, he doesn't show what he truly thinks about her.
School

  1. Best subject: Potions
  2. Worst subject: Divination (it doesn't seem to be based on logic, according to Ezequiel)
  3. Aspirations for the future: Uncertain. Ezequiel is very skilled at Potions, but he doesn't fancy the idea of working in a shop or making a living by inventing new ones. He'd rather wish for some more practical application of his skills.
  4. House: Slytherin
  5. Why is your character in this house?: As stated before, the Sorting Hat took a really long time to sort Ezequiel. He had traits that would make him suitable for Slytherin, Ravenclaw or even Hufflepuff, but the ideas of cunning, ambition and power seemed to appeal to Ezequiel. To him, it seemed like a House both strong and somehow special, different, separate from others. Naturally, in that regard, Slytherin suits Ezequiel perfectly.
  6. Year: Fifth
