"Just where is his new headquarters? What kind of a protections are on the place? And how do we get in? Regardless of whether the Infernal Sword's complete or not, I think we should strike as soon as possible. The more time we give Riddle to prepare, the smaller our odds of winnning are. Right now, we still have the element of surprise." "Tell us where Riddle is now hiding and we can take the necessary actions to go against whatever protections he has on the place. We can show up and ram him down by making him vulnerable with the Eternal Sword. I realize I sound like a hot head right now but what other choice do we have? Like Sam said, we shouldnt give Riddle more time with his planning. You even said we dont have much time so what are we waiting for? Why dont we bring Riddle's worst fear to life?" Of course Sam didn't even stop to consider anything else anyone was talking about. She just jumped to the what needed to be down. Maybe it was a good quality because otherwise they would probably just sit here and talk all day. But she and Katia had a point. Sure Riddle had this super powerful weapon that could defeat their powerful weapon and he and his followers were immortal, and the odds were against them, but this was too good of an opportunity to miss. Besides it was better to die in a blaze of glory fighting Riddle than be cautious and let Riddle take over. Besides when had Mercury ever been cautious? Mercury noticed that Xavier was giving him one of his famous 'I'm going to kill you looks' but he just ignored the Wraith. What was going on right now was far more important than personal differences, besides he was kind of used to it. A day didn't go by when someone didn't give him the evil death glare. Mercury was pretty sure that Xavier's used this face whenever he was surrounded by people he hated so he didn't take it too personally. Besides if the Wraith really wanted to try kill him fine. Mercury was more than willing to take him on any time Xavier felt like it. Maybe it was stupidity to be so nonchalant about fighting the Wraith, but Mercury wouldn't be here if he was easily intimidated-or smart. "That's exactly what I'm saying. Still, they are less of a concern than Riddle himself. The Death Eaters are mere sheep - easily defeated if only we can kill the shepherd. Once we get rid of their master and take or destroy the Philosopher's Stone, they will run out of Elixir and become as mortal as you or I. Unfortunately, Riddle does not want any knowledge of any immortal servants of his leak out just yet. That's why he only gives the Death Eaters the Elixir in person, from time to time. The only other two I'm aware of are Eric Banks, and Katrina Gandor." Of course Riddle was more important, but still it was nice to know who was immortal and who wasn't. Sure the Order members didn't like to kill but that didn't mean the Death Eater's immortality wouldn't make them more reckless, thus more deadly. There were certain limits to as far as people were willing to go because of the whole mortality thing, but if one was immortal than they could go the whole nine years and not worry. That had to affect a person's dueling style somehow. Mercury was startled when Xavier mentioned Eric's name. Well that was...interesting. Jesus. What was he supposed to say to that? So not only was his brother willingly following a mad man but he was currently immortal and slowly being brainwashed by whatever Riddle had slipped into the damn elixir. Wonderful. Simply wonderful. All right that wasn't important right now. He'd deal with it later. Right now he had Order business to worry about. Pepper sensing that Mercury was upset rubbing her head against his head which he appreciated. "I think I have a feeling on how the Infernal Sword works...Normally, nothing we could do, could put a dent in the Eternal Sword. It continually gives off a special type of magical energy that negates just about everything we could throw at it. I've been trying to figure out what this energy is, but I think Riddle finally understands it. This Infernal Sword... If Riddle wants to destroy our sword with it, then I think the Infernal Sword gives off an energy exactly opposite to what the Eternal Sword has. Think of it as two waves cancelling each other out. In other words, if our sword is in promixity to the other, it'll be vulnerable. But the reverse also holds true, so we should be on an equal footing. Xavier, am I right?" “I am to understand, that once the two swords are in range, their shields are ‘deactivated’ and completely vulnerable? So you don’t even need to destroy the sword with the other sword, you can try it with a wand? Right? Could we possibly try to destroy Riddle’s from a distance while someone wields the Eternal Sword in front of him?” Then Caedmon tried to explain everything. Mercury really liked the professor but every time he opened his mouth he only succeeded in confusing Mercury. Mercury didn't know if it was because he was dumb or because Caedmon spoke Greek, but they just didn't know how to communicate to each other. So Mercury stood there and tried his best to understand the poor professor but all he got was that the two sword could cancel each other out. That seemed to be the most important part of Caedmon's little speech because that was what Ralem jumped on. Okay. So if the two swords were together they'd just be normal swords that they got to swing around? If that was right than Ralem was right, right? Woah, too many rights in that sentence. So, if Ralem was right then they'd need some freak to wave the sword in front of Riddle's face (talk about a funny image) and then they'd need a sneaky person to hid and hit Riddle at just the right moment. It was just as sane as anything else they ever tried to do. "In regards to the Infernal Sword's workings - our favourite 'Defense Against the Dark Arts'-teacher is quite correct. I got the same idea from the notes I read. I don't think Riddle's Sword could kill an immortal, but it can most certainly damage yours. Especially the crystal on it's hilt. Riddle believes the crystal to be it's weak point and he undoubtedly hopes to shatter it once the battle begins, I believe that the Infernal Sword is very close to completion, if it isn't already finished. However, Riddle undoubtedly wants as much as time as possible to test it, to be absolutely sure of his victory before he confronts you. He'll probably want to plant his next move in intricate detail. Regardless, I believe we'll have to face the Infernal Sword in this final battle." “So you’re saying he’s waiting? He’s plotting and waiting and trying to figure out what way would be best to make his next move? I guess it’s really now or never. We could have the upper hand at the moment.” Okay great. So while they were waving the sword in Riddle's face they had to match sure he didn't damage the crystal. Well that made sense. Because not only was trying to kill Riddle going to be hard but they had to make it harder because that was just how their life worked. But Ralem was right. If Riddle was content with sitting around and plotting while he had the sword either finished or almost finished then now was definitely the time to strike. But how? Were they seriously going to walk up to Riddle's new hideout and say how we're going to kill you now I hope that's okay? "I saved some of the Elixir, yes. I keep them in two safe locations: one at a vault in Gringotts and the other beneath Syndicate Headquarters. However, it's not much. It might only be enough to give all the Order-members here immortality for a few hours. But I do agree with Cael. Most likely, there is something else mixed with it in order to make us Death Eaters more bound to Riddle. Still, whatever it is, it seems to be working very slowly, so taking the Elixir once should not be a problem." "That's good. A few hours should be more than enough. If we all drink the Elixir of Life the night we confront Riddle, it will definitely raise the odds of survival." Mercury still wasn't a hundred percent comfortable with this whole elixir thing but he wasn't going to say anything. It would be foolhardy to say no just because he didn't like who it was coming from or the potential side effects. According to Xavier one time should be fine but still... "I can give you a detailed lay-out of the place and some of it's defences later... However, there's one big problem. Riddle's put a Fidelius Charm on the place. No one can see it or get in there without his permission. However, I might be able to get you a note from Riddle with the address. I just have to intercept it as he sends it to a new Death Eater. This is more dangerous than it sounds, though..." "But I agree with Samantha and Katia. I believe we must strike against Riddle as soon as possible. The Infernal Sword is his trump card and his last hope - he still believes that he has the advantage over us. We must take the initiative and find a way to go at him. If we attack now, he won't see it coming." "Now... Any other questions?" “Who’s up for it? We need to get at him as soon as possible. Which means, we need a quick but mostly foolproof plan with the limited amount of time. And possibly some volunteers. “Ideas?” "Count me in. The way I see it, we either need to find a way to lure Riddle out into the open or infiltrate his headquarters. I think Riddle will suspect a trap no matter what we do, so I say we go to him. Of course, that means the plan will hinge on whether Xavier can get us safely inside of the Death Eaters's base. "In that case, the best thing to do would probably be for several Order-members to cause a distraction while the rest take the Eternal Sword and go off to confront Riddle himself." "What do you think?" "You didn't expect me to miss on an opportunity to get myself killed did you?" he asked Ralem with a smirk. He listened to Cael's plan. It sounded like something crazy they would do. Mercury wasn't sure if the plan hinged on Xavier being able to getting them inside the Death Eater's base, but what could he do about it? Whether he liked it or not, Xavier was on their side now which meant they'd just have to trust him-for now. "Going to him is probably the best option. It's the most direct and it's not like Riddle's going to be allowed himself to be drawn out just because we ask nicely. But how are we going to decide who causes the distraction and who gets to scare Riddle with the sword? Volunteerism or do we want to draw straws?" All right so maybe he was being a bit...nonchalant about this whole thing, but seriously suicidal plans were kind of their thing. |

Manfred gave Caedmon a sheepish grin. It should have been obvious the moment he met the professor that he was part of the Order. God, he felt so stupid. He should have figured it out the moment Caedmon mentioned that he was working with a 'special' group. All right it was official. He was a moron. But now that Caedmon mentioned it, had he been in the Bloody Pen on Order business? It would make sense. Manfred didn't reply though. They had far more important things to talk about and he didn't feel like having Ralem rip into him again. The young girl and Katia urged for quick action against Riddle. Well that was great except they didn't have anything kind of plan in place. It was one thing to call for action and another to think of a calm rational plan. All they knew was that Riddle had a nice new weapon to kill people with. That was great but it didn't form a plan. I think I have a feeling on how the Infernal Sword works...Normally, nothing we could do, could put a dent in the Eternal Sword. It continually gives off a special type of magical energy that negates just about everything we could throw at it. I've been trying to figure out what this energy is, but I think Riddle finally understands it. This Infernal Sword... Could we possibly try to destroy Riddle’s from a distance while someone wields the Eternal Sword in front of him?” “So you’re saying he’s waiting? He’s plotting and waiting and trying to figure out what way would be best to make his next move?” Lem looked at the rest of the Order. “I guess it’s really now or never. We could have the upper hand at the moment.” Manfred was surprised by the depth of Caedmon's knowledge. He knew from the first time they talked that Caedmon was knew a lot about the dark arts but this was still surprising. He listened to Caedmon in awe. It was amazing that the professor could take something so confusing and yet important and boil it down to it's simplest forms. Man he wished he had had Caedmon as his Defense of the Dark Arts teacher. His lectures would have been fascinating to listen to. Manfred took a few minutes to distill what the professor had said. Cancel each other out? What did he mean by that? Were there magical properties to the swords that would cancel out making them normal swords? If that was true than how were they supposed to kill Riddle? If the magical property of the Eternal Sword was what killed Riddle and the Infernal sword cancelled out that property then they were screwed. Ralem made a suggestion that may have solved that dilemna but then their whole plan depended on the fact that they would be able to destroy the Infernal sword before Riddle killed them. "Excuse me, professor," he said since just calling him Caedmon seemed a little rude and Mr. Darke was too formal, "but I'm confused. What do you mean the swords will cancel out? Does that mean that the property that enables the Eternal sword to kill Riddle will be canceled out by the Infernal sword?" If that was true then that would seriously complicate things. Ralem had now join the action bandwagon. That was great but he didn't hear anyone coming up with a plan. Manfred was relieved to hear that the elixir was safe to take as long as they didn't take too much of it. He was still nervous that it had been made by Riddle but it would definitely give them an advantage in the upcoming battle. He was sure that the Death Eaters would be surprised to see that the Order members were also immortal. Come to think of it, he wondered what kind of psychological affect that would have on them. But how are we going to decide who causes the distraction and who gets to scare Riddle with the sword? Volunteerism or do we want to draw straws?" Manfred was nervous about Xavier trying to intercept a letter from Riddle. It was very risky to try and do that under Riddle's nose but it seemed to be their only way to find Riddle's headquarters. Still Manfred wasn't sure if he liked the fact that their plan was going to rely on a lot of ifs, buts, and maybes. But it didn't seemed like they had any other choice. Manfred listened to Cael with great interested. The plan was crazy and relied on too many ifs. It would only work if Xavier was able to intercept the letter, if Riddle fell for the distraction, and if they somehow figured out the whole swords canceling each other out, but it was the best plan they had and it seemed to be an Order thing to volunteer for suicidal missions like this. But the man with the phoenix brought up a good point. "I think we should send our best duellists to face Riddle. Killing him is going to require a superhuman abilities, even with the sword, so we want our best sent after him. The rest should cause the distraction, but we also want a good number of us to be part of the distraction group that way the group who's supposed to be fighting Riddle faces a minimum amount of resistance from the other Death Eaters." |

Man, this meeting was an information-overload... Samantha remained quiet as she listened to Xavier's answers and everything else the rest of the Order was discussing. Finally, she rubbed her head and crashed down into a chair. For a moment, she was afraid the thing was going to collapse, it seemed so old and fragile, but it was in a better condition than it looked. Now it was time to think and put everything in perspective. “Yes, it is important for us to take on Riddle as soon as possible. We need to catch him while he’s still vulnerable. There are many ways we can play this. Some are more safe than others, but some are more…tactful. Anyone have any ideas?” Before Sam had much of a chance to do so, she caught Lem's gaze and wondered what was on her mind. It almost looked like she was expecting her to come up with a plan, but now that Samantha thought about it, she supposed she did often provide the bolder ideas in this group. Sam and Ralem had a strange thing going on; the closest thing to it was a mentor/student-relationship, but it was more. Sam disliked Lem for trying to reign her in concerning the Dark Arts, but she also respected her. On the other side of the spectrum, it often seemed like Lem didn't like Sam because of her defiant nature, but it was also as if she expected great things of her. Besides, beneath that cool demeanor, Lem could sometimes be as hot-headed as Sam. Perhaps that was why they argued so much? Either way, Sam decided to give it a try and come up with something. If she was in charge, what would she do? Samantha still believed that the right course of action was to strike fast and the others seemed to agree. The problem was that they weren't certain of what they were up against. Sure, there was Voldemort himself (more dangerous than ever) and tons of Death Eaters (some of which were immortal), but aside from that, they didn't know much. She doubted Voldemort would fall for any trick to lure him out into the open, so what were they to do but try and get inside his headquarters and hope everything would work out fine? But just how were they going to get in? No matter how much Sam twisted and turned it, it all seemed impossible. Not without Xavier letting them in and causing some sort of disturbance... Undoubtedly, Voldemort would figure out what was going on and it would all just result in a direct fight with him... Sam gave up. If only the Order of the Phoenix had some way - some reliable way - of getting inside Voldemort's stronghold. Samantha looked up again and sighed, knowing that didn't exist. She let her emerald eyes pass from one member to the other as they spoke... Ralem, Caedmon, her father, Xavier, Katia, Mercury, the new guy... Wait. Mercury. Only now did Sam spot the bird sitting on his shoulder. Unbelievable - how come the Order had never thought of it earlier? They were the Order of the Phoenix for crying out loud and they never thought of one use for Mercury's pet? An idea immediately started forming in Sam's head. “Who’s up for it? We need to get at him as soon as possible. Which means, we need a quick but mostly foolproof plan with the limited amount of time. And possibly some volunteers. Ideas?” "I'm going too," Samantha said enthusiastically and stood up, then glanced at the new guy for a moment before she spoke. "I think it's obvious that the strongest duellist should be the one to wield the Eternal Sword and the others try to keep the Death Eaters off their back while they fight Riddle. So whose it going to be?" Her eyes went from Lem to her father. Well, there was also Xavier, but there was no way in hell Sam was going to trust him with the sword. "Also..." Sam couldn't help but smile. "I think we might have a pretty fool-proof way of getting inside Riddle's headquarters, if we can get past the Fidelius Charm at least." She turned to Mercury and pointed at the Phoenix on his shoulder. "I don't think Riddle would ever consider a Phoenix to be a threat to him. But they use their own branch of magic to travel great distances, right?" Sam was referring, of course, to a Phoenix's ability to teleport in a way different from Apparition. The more Sam thought about it, the likelier it seemed that Riddle was arrogant enough to only think a witch or wizard could infiltrate his headquarters and hadn't counted on a creature entirely different. "So what do you think? Would she consent to give us a ride?" Sam asked Mercury. |

Regardless, I believe we'll have to face the Infernal Sword in this final battle." Caedmon listened very carefully as Xavier spoke. His information concerning the Infernal Sword could make all the difference between killing Voldemort or failing. But it seemed that Caed's assumptions had been correct. Yes... It was the only way for Voldemort to conquer the Eternal Sword. Create something that cancels out it's protective power and then try to damage the magic crystal on the hilt, disabling all it's power for good... But that also meant that the Infernal Sword could be destroyed. It wasn't hopeless. Far from it. This could really be the moment they would rid the world of Voldemort forever. “I am to understand, that once the two swords are in range, their shields are ‘deactivated’ and completely vulnerable? So you don’t even need to destroy the sword with the other sword, you can try it with a wand? Right? Could we possibly try to destroy Riddle’s from a distance while someone wields the Eternal Sword in front of him?” "Excuse me, professor, but I'm confused. What do you mean the swords will cancel out? Does that mean that the property that enables the Eternal sword to kill Riddle will be canceled out by the Infernal sword?" Ralem raised a very interesting possibility. Caedmon hadn't thought of it, but she was right. Unless Voldemort had found some other way to shield his sword (which was quite unlikely), then it should be vulnerable to magic when in proximity to the other. Of course, the same thing went for their sword. Nonetheless, Caedmon decided to answer Manfred's question first. "An interesting question, Manfred, but no. I don't think there's anything to worry about that. The Infernal Sword will only cancel out the protections placed upon the Eternal Sword that prevent it from being damaged under normal circumstances. In other words, the Eternal Sword will still be able to destroy an immortal like Riddle, but when close to each other, both weapons will be much more fragile than they usually are." Then the Professor turned to Lem. "You're absolutely right. If the two swords are close to each other, then yes, they should be able to be harmed by other means. However, it will still take some very significant spell-work," Caedmon explained. He doubted the Eternal Sword or the Infernal one were made out of some common ore; most likely, the materials themselves were very strong. Nonetheless, they could definitely be damaged. He looked at Xavier, just to be sure. "What do you think?" “Who’s up for it? We need to get at him as soon as possible. Which means, we need a quick but mostly foolproof plan with the limited amount of time. And possibly some volunteers. Ideas?” "Count me in. In that case, the best thing to do would probably be for several Order-members to cause a distraction while the rest take the Eternal Sword and go off to confront Riddle himself. What do you think?" "You didn't expect me to miss on an opportunity to get myself killed did you? Going to him is probably the best option. It's the most direct and it's not like Riddle's going to be allowed himself to be drawn out just because we ask nicely. But how are we going to decide who causes the distraction and who gets to scare Riddle with the sword? Volunteerism or do we want to draw straws?" The rest should cause the distraction, but we also want a good number of us to be part of the distraction group that way the group who's supposed to be fighting Riddle faces a minimum amount of resistance from the other Death Eaters." "I'm going too. I think it's obvious that the strongest duellist should be the one to wield the Eternal Sword and the others try to keep the Death Eaters off their back while they fight Riddle. So whose it going to be?" The conversation then started turning towards a practical plan. Acting against Riddle as soon as possible to give him no more time to prepare; using the Elixir of Life to raise their odds of survival; infiltrating the enemy base; holding off the Death Eaters and finally, who was going to wield the Eternal Sword. As exciting as all of this was, Caedmon got a bad feeling as the conversation dragged on. Cael's plan seemed like the only option they had, but it was still very dangerous, even with the Elixir. And which members would face Voldemort in person? He could guess whom, but when Manfred and Samantha spoke, Caedmon could still feel a lead weight settle in his stomach... His dark eyes met Ralem's icy blue ones for a moment. Even if Caed was going to be in the group to face Riddle, then he wouldn't be the one to wield the sword... While he was a powerful wizard, Caedmon wasn't the greatest duellist. It would most likely be Caelestis, but despite himself, the Professor thought that might not be the brightest idea... Before he even noticed it himself, Caedmon spoke. "Riddle's going to expect Caelestis to wield the Eternal Sword. I'm sure of it, given everything he has undoubtedly heard and seen about his skills in duelling. Then there's the fact that Cael nearly killed him with the sword the last time we faced him, back in the summer..." Every word weighed heavily on Caedmon's heart. He had never wanted more to be proven wrong. Because, logically, his reasoning only left one candidate: Ralem. She was very powerful aswell and someone whom Voldemort might not expect. The worry in Caedmon's face was obvious. He wouldn't even send his worst enemy to fight Riddle directly, even with the Eternal Sword; sending in Lem was, well... Caedmon wasn't sure if he could stand it, to be quite honest. "Also... I think we might have a pretty fool-proof way of getting inside Riddle's headquarters, if we can get past the Fidelius Charm at least. I don't think Riddle would ever consider a Phoenix to be a threat to him. But they use their own branch of magic to travel great distances, right? So what do you think? Would she consent to give us a ride?" Luckily, Samantha spoke up again and turned to another subject. Mercury's Phoenix? Caedmon looked at him and the bird aswell. It sounded crazy but Sam had a point. Voldemort didn't think any magical creature could rival him - it might very well be possible that he hadn't thought of finding a way to shut out a Phoenix's type of Apparition. Rather ironic, considering the name of his group of greatest enemies. "That's actually not a bad idea..." Caed said, wondering what the others would think. |

Regardless, I believe we'll have to face the Infernal Sword in this final battle." Katia nodded to herself at Xavier's explanations regarding the Infernal Sword. This was even more reason to act swiftly. They needed to catch Riddle before he was able to get comfortable with his fancy sword. She felt very confident that this hasnt happened yet, at least according to what Xavier was saying. It didnt sound like the sword was completed yet so they still had time but Katia didnt want to wait any longer. She was already feeling antsy just sitting here with only this stupid sword weighing down her lap. Shifting her position on the steps, Katia thought about the upcoming battle. All of them were going to put their lives at risk. Of course they knew this when becoming an Order member. Going against the smartest, strongest, most insane wizard who ever lived was not going to be an easy task for them. Not that Katia was worried about her own life. Xavier himself said that the Infernal Sword couldnt kill an immortal so that was one less thing for her to worry about. She didnt even need to take the Elixir so she was planning on offering her share to someone else. Perhaps young Sammie. Or even Manfred. The young ones in the group would need it more than she would. Besides, she didnt really want to take something that may bind her to the Dark Lord. She's already proven that her pretend skills worked very well when it came to displaying loyalty to the Dark Lord. She even came face to face with Riddle telling him that she was his servant. It wasnt her proudest moment but she would be willing to do it again for the Order. Katia looked up and realized that Xavier was staring at her, as if trying to read her mind. She knew he wasnt a legillimens and she wasnt about to use her own power to read his mind. She couldnt even hold his gaze for very long in fear that he would read exactly what she was reading on her face. So, she looked back down at his sword in her lap. She knew he could sense there was something going on with her...otherwise why would he be looking at that way? She simply listened to him talk vaguely about Riddle's new location. Katia nodded when he suggested that he could intercept a note with location before it was delivered to a Death Eater. "The way I see it, we either need to find a way to lure Riddle out into the open or infiltrate his headquarters. I think Riddle will suspect a trap no matter what we do, so I say we go to him. Of course, that means the plan will hinge on whether Xavier can get us safely inside of the Death Eaters's base. In that case, the best thing to do would probably be for several Order-members to cause a distraction while the rest take the Eternal Sword and go off to confront Riddle himself." "I think we should send our best duellists to face Riddle. Killing him is going to require a superhuman abilities, even with the sword, so we want our best sent after him. The rest should cause the distraction, but we also want a good number of us to be part of the distraction group that way the group who's supposed to be fighting Riddle faces a minimum amount of resistance from the other Death Eaters." Katia liked Cael's and Manfred's ideas. It was obvious that she was going to be one of the those who would fight the Death Eaters off. She was not a great duelist and never will be. She didnt have a problem with that either as long as the Order was all right with that. Of course, she did have her freakish vampire strength...and hunger...and would have no problem with using that against any Death Eater. It would be fantastic stress relief for her. Something that would keep her mind off of the huge revelation that came to her earlier in the meeting. Plus, chances were that she would be seperated from Xavier during this whole thing and that was how she wanted it. So yeah. That was her plan. Clearing her throat, she glanced around the room. "I will be happy to be part of the group that distracts the Death Eaters. Oh, and Sam or Manfred can have my dose of the Elixir. I dont think I need it seeing as how I'm kind of already immortal." With the exception of a good killling curse, she was. Sam's idea of using the Phoenix was a brilliant one and Katia gave the girl a surprised look of admiration. She was growing up to be as smart as her father. Cael must be proud. At Caedmon's agreement, Katia voiced hers as well. "That's a great idea, Sam." She glanced in Mercury's direction and hoped he would allow his bird to do this. It was one thing to risk one's own life but to risk the life of a pet? That might be a hard one for Mercury. |

“I am to understand, that once the two swords are in range, their shields are ‘deactivated’ and completely vulnerable? So you don’t even need to destroy the sword with the other sword, you can try it with a wand? Right? Could we possibly try to destroy Riddle’s from a distance while someone wields the Eternal Sword in front of him?” You're absolutely right. If the two swords are close to each other, then yes, they should be able to be harmed by other means. However, it will still take some very significant spell-work. What do you think?" While some people thought he was only good at duelling, the fact was that Xavier wasn't some brainless brute; he'd gotten himself 9 N.E.W.T.'s back at Hogwarts, four of which were 'Outstanding'. Nonetheless, it was still taking him quite a bit of effort to follow everything concerning the Infernal Sword. Normally, that wouldn't bother him considering the fact that any of that stuff was way beyond a normal wizard anyway, but the Professor here had a greater understanding than he could've ever expected. Xavier racked his brain as he tried to remember everything he'd read in the Dark Lord's research notes. It was true that he had designed the Infernal Sword to give off an energy exactly opposite to the energy of the Eternal Sword's protective magic... Logically speaking, what Ralem had suggested should be possible. Finally, Xavier looked up from a spot on the floor and responded to Caedmon. "I think you're giving me a headache," he quipped. "But you're probably right. I'm pretty sure that both swords are vulnerable to other attacks when they're close to each other." Now... Back to the plan. Back to a subject that Xavier could understand. “Who’s up for it? We need to get at him as soon as possible. Which means, we need a quick but mostly foolproof plan with the limited amount of time. And possibly some volunteers. Ideas?” "Count me in. In that case, the best thing to do would probably be for several Order-members to cause a distraction while the rest take the Eternal Sword and go off to confront Riddle himself. What do you think?" Xavier's eyes met Cael's for a brief moment when he brought up his plan. He knew what he was thinking of - he wasn't completely certain whether Xavier could get himself a note with the address of Riddle's headquarters. Truthfully, neither was Xavier. Or rather, he could get them the note, but he wasn't sure whether he would remain undiscovered and that was as crucial as the rest; if Riddle knew Xavier had betrayed him and given knowledge of his headquarters to the Order of the Phoenix, then he might also assume that Xavier had discovered the Infernal Sword and told them about that aswell. He would expect an attack and their brief window of opportunity of taking Riddle by surprise would be gone. Under the circumstances, Xavier agreed that Cael's plan was the best they got. The Wraith didn't speak just yet, though. He merely placed his hands in the pockets of his robes and listened to the others first. "You didn't expect me to miss on an opportunity to get myself killed did you? Going to him is probably the best option. It's the most direct and it's not like Riddle's going to be allowed himself to be drawn out just because we ask nicely. But how are we going to decide who causes the distraction and who gets to scare Riddle with the sword? Volunteerism or do we want to draw straws?" "I think we should send our best duellists to face Riddle. Killing him is going to require a superhuman abilities, even with the sword, so we want our best sent after him. The rest should cause the distraction, but we also want a good number of us to be part of the distraction group that way the group who's supposed to be fighting Riddle faces a minimum amount of resistance from the other Death Eaters." "I'm going too. I think it's obvious that the strongest duellist should be the one to wield the Eternal Sword and the others try to keep the Death Eaters off their back while they fight Riddle. So whose it going to be?" Well, at least Xavier and the Order were thinking the same way - or 'the rest of the Order' as Xavier should be calling them, given that he was on his way to becoming a member. That embarassing fact aside, he certainly agreed. Dear little Sammie summed it up best: it should be the strongest to wield the Eternal Sword. Xavier wasn't surprised when Cael's daughter looked from Ralem to her father. While Caelestis had surpassed his skill for a time, the Wraith had grown more powerful lately; for the past year, the Dark Lord had been teaching Xavier some of the deepest secrets of the Dark Arts personally, undoubtedly hoping to make him his best servant. Xavier thought it was him that was a shade better than Cael and thus, technically, best suited to wield the Eternal Sword. Of course, he also had far more experience with swordplay in general, but Xavier knew there was no way the Order would ever even consider him. Thus it most likely came down to Cael or Ralem. Except there was one little fact that Xavier should make them aware of... Just as he took a step forward and opened his mouth to speak, Caedmon beat him to it. "Riddle's going to expect Caelestis to wield the Eternal Sword. I'm sure of it, given everything he has undoubtedly heard and seen about his skills in duelling. Then there's the fact that Cael nearly killed him with the sword the last time we faced him, back in the summer..." "I agree. In fact, I'm 100% certain that Riddle's expecting Caelestis to be the one to fight him. Several months ago, he asked me to tell him everything concerning Cael's fighting style, his tactics and the magic he's capable of," Xavier admitted. Already at the time he had been starting to doubt whether serving Voldemort was the right thing to do, so he hadn't told him every trick Xavier had ever seen Caelestis use, but the damage was already done. There was only so much that Occlumency could do when you're being interrogated by Lord Voldemort... "I will be happy to be part of the group that distracts the Death Eaters. Oh, and Sam or Manfred can have my dose of the Elixir. I dont think I need it seeing as how I'm kind of already immortal." At this, Xavier's head turned rather fast and he gave Katia a pretty sharp look. "Are you certain?" He said, failing to hide all his concern in the tone of his voice. Still, he quickly turned to the rest of the Order. "It doesn't matter to me which group I'm assigned to. If you don't want me to help you fight Riddle, I'll be glad to keep the other Death Eaters off your back." To tell the truth, Xavier was itching to try the Shikyoken on Riddle, but he knew the Order wouldn't want to take any chances. Oh, well... Maybe he'd get his chance later on in the fight. Would she consent to give us a ride?" When Samantha pointed at Mercury, Xavier thought she'd lost it for a moment; how was that guy possibly going to provide a fool-proof way inside Riddle's headquarters? But then the Wraith noticed she was pointing at the creature on his shoulder: a Phoenix. Xavier couldn't help but be slightly impressed. He'd heard Banks had gotten his hands on one, but seeing it for real was different. They were supposed to be very hard to tame. What kind of Phoenix would choose Mercury Banks as a master? Regardless, Samantha was probably right... Xavier brushed a strand of white hair out of his face as he thought. It was quite possible that Voldemort hadn't counted on the Order to use a Phoenix to Apparate inside of his base. It sounded stupid enough to work. "She's right... Crazy as it sounds, I don't think Riddle is going to see that one coming," Xavier said slowly. It looked like they nearly had themselves a plan: he would get them a note with the location of the base; drink the Elixir; get inside with Banks's Phoenix; one part of the Order causes a distraction and holds off the Death Eaters while the other goes off to fight Riddle with the Eternal Sword. Sounded like a plan. |

Lem gave Mercury a smirk. Of course she didn’t. “Well Banks, I think it comes down to volunteerism, seeing as we have no straws available,” she joked. All laughing aside though, this was important. And this Manfred was starting to get on her nerves. Lem would really prefer if he didn’t act like he knew what he was doing. Lem supposed Manfred thought he was a good duelist as well. Or not. Manfred reminded Lem of Caedmon. He wasn’t terrible with magic, he was quite good. But his brains were the jewels that they always needed. “We need to be swift though. We need to get in and get to Riddle. It has to completely be a surprise, and if so, we would need to make the distraction look as completely innocent as possible. We will need some major people in the distraction group. That, or Riddle will have us figured out in two seconds.” "You're absolutely right. If the two swords are close to each other, then yes, they should be able to be harmed by other means. However, it will still take some very significant spell-work, What do you think? Riddle's going to expect Caelestis to wield the Eternal Sword. I'm sure of it, given everything he has undoubtedly heard and seen about his skills in duelling. Several months ago, he asked me to tell him everything concerning Cael's fighting style, his tactics and the magic he's capable of," Lem looked from Xavier to Caed. And she didn’t like the look on Caed’s face at all. Cael was the obvious choice, right? Cael was the one who was supposed to take the sword, Cael of Caedmon. But the tone Caed was using, she didn’t like it. “If you’re thinking what I’m pretty sure you’re thinking, then…” Was it going to be a no? After all, Cael would most likely survive wielding a sword. Or Xavier, but in no way was Xavier getting his hands on it. But Lem? She had never held a sword in her life. Ever. So holding a sword and a wand at the same time? “It might work. It might. But the more important issue is the fact that I’m not completely comfortable waving around a sword with powers that none of us completely understand.” Also, with the sword, she would be more vulnerable. And Riddle would want to kill you. But on the other hand, if she shocked Riddle for a split second or two, she could gain an advantage. She’d feel comfortable with someone to help her out. Maybe Sam? "I'm going too, I think it's obvious that the strongest duellist should be the one to wield the Eternal Sword and the others try to keep the Death Eaters off their back while they fight Riddle. Now the question is how many and who is going to the headquarters? I think it might be safe if only two or three of us go. That way we can still have the element of secrecy.” Being invisible or hiding in shadows would help them greatly. The less people, the greater the chance of not being caught. “And who takes Xavier?” As much as Xavier was capable of taking care of himself, they needed to know that he wasn’t going to do something stupid. |

"I'm going too. I think it's obvious that the strongest duellist should be the one to wield the Eternal Sword and the others try to keep the Death Eaters off their back while they fight Riddle. So whose it going to be?" Caelestis smiled at Mercury's remark. Of course he was going to be there; some might have only thought of him as the joker of the group, but the way Cael saw it, he was one of the most dedicated Order-members and he played a crucial role. The new guy, Manfred, he didn't know but if Caedmon knew him, then there was most likely nothing to worry about; besides, he seemed pretty smart. Then there was Samantha. At first, Cael had been adamant for her to stay out of any Order-business, but she had proved herself and she was of age now, anyway. But the discussion then turned to a very important subject: who was actually going to be the one to wield the Eternal Sword? Cael agreed with Manfred that it was going to take someone with exceptional skill and power to defeat Voldemort, even with the sword... And since they also needed a large group to distract the Death Eaters, it left only a few candidates... Not even Cael was prepared to trust Xavier with the sword (once the battle was over, he'd most likely run with it), which pretty much only left Ralem and himself. Cael frowned slightly as he thought. It was going to be him. It should be him. No, Caelestis was not eager to face Voldemort one-on-one, but neither was he comfortable with letting any other member wield it. He didn't have a death wish (far from it), but if anyone was going to put themselves in such incredible danger, it was going to be Cael. "Riddle's going to expect Caelestis to wield the Eternal Sword. I'm sure of it, given everything he has undoubtedly heard and seen about his skills in duelling. Then there's the fact that Cael nearly killed him with the sword the last time we faced him, back in the summer..." “I agree. It might. But the more important issue is the fact that I’m not completely comfortable waving around a sword with powers that none of us completely understand.” "I'll do it." Caelestis looked from Lem to Caedmon and Xavier. The look in his emerald eyes was quite grim. "Lem's right. She's powerful, but I don't think she's suited to wield the sword itself. No... If Riddle wants me, he'll get me." He wasn't comfortable with the idea that Voldemort had wanted to know everything about his fighting style... But on the other hand, he had a number of tricks that not even Xavier was aware of. More importantly, just because he was using the sword didn't mean he had to face Voldemort alone. He would merely hold him off; perhaps it would be Lem or someone else that disarmed Riddle and Cael would deliver the final blow. He just hoped they didn't think he was playing the hero. The way Caelestis saw it, they didn't have much of a choice. "Also...I think we might have a pretty fool-proof way of getting inside Riddle's headquarters, if we can get past the Fidelius Charm at least. I don't think Riddle would ever consider a Phoenix to be a threat to him. But they use their own branch of magic to travel great distances, right?" “Great idea Sam. Now the question is how many and who is going to the headquarters? I think it might be safe if only two or three of us go. That way we can still have the element of secrecy. And who takes Xavier?” Cael was taken by surprise by Sam's suggestion. Using the Phoenix to get inside was not only brilliant, but ironically symbolic. Voldemort was going to throw a fit, knowing it was a Phoenix (something associated with Dumbledore) that got his worst enemies inside his headquarters. So they'd already settled on their method of transport, but as Lem said, who was actually going? Well, Cael figured they should try and get as many Order-members involved and let them cause the distraction while only he and Lem went to Voldemort himself. "I say the two of us sneak around and go to Riddle, while the rest take Xavier and fight the Death Eaters." |

"An interesting question, Manfred, but no. I don't think there's anything to worry about that. The Infernal Sword will only cancel out the protections placed upon the Eternal Sword that prevent it from being damaged under normal circumstances. In other words, the Eternal Sword will still be able to destroy an immortal like Riddle, but when close to each other, both weapons will be much more fragile than they usually are." "You're absolutely right. If the two swords are close to each other, then yes, they should be able to be harmed by other means. However, it will still take some very significant spell-work What do you think?" I think you're giving me a headache. But you're probably right. I'm pretty sure that both swords are vulnerable to other attacks when they're close to each other." As Caedmon answered the new kid's and Ralem's question, Mercury thought his head was going to explode. First off the new kid asked for some kind of clarification which only seemed to take an already confusing situation and ratcheted it up a notch. However, Caedmon denied that the new kid had anything to worry about so Mercury assumed that it was no problem if he didn't understand. See this was why he let the others do the thinking. Now Mercury understand Ralem's question a little better. From the sounds of it, it sounded like they were going to need two people to face Riddle. One to distract him and the other to deliver the final blow. Well that really narrowed it down to two people. Sure the group was full of smart and gifted people but they only had two people who were really good at these duels that regarded split second reactions, mind blowing spells, and amazing luck. She's powerful, but I don't think she's suited to wield the sword itself. No... If Riddle wants me, he'll get me." Mercury listened to everyone give their two cents. He agreed that sending Cael in was kind of predictable, but at the same time who else did they have? Apparently a few people were hinting that Ralem should go but it seemed like she wasn't totally comfortable with the idea. Well he couldn't blame her. Playing around with a cool sword in a safe envirnoment was one thing, but to play around with a cool, powerful sword while trying to defeat Riddle, well that was something completely different. Then Cael offered-well more like demanded-to go. Mercury knew that it wasn't because Cael had a huge ego and hero-complex. He was just a really decent guy who didn't like to see others take foolish changes. But still. If Riddle was expecting him...Oh this was ridiculous! Here they were trying to plan out for every little consigency which was insane. "If we keep thinking like this we're going to drive ourselves insane," he said, "I think Cael and Ralem should go. Cael should go because....well he's Cael. And Ralem can go and make sure he doesn't do anything stupid." He flashed them a grin to let them know he was joking slightly. "Also...I think we might have a pretty fool-proof way of getting inside Riddle's headquarters, if we can get past the Fidelius Charm at least." I don't think Riddle would ever consider a Phoenix to be a threat to him. But they use their own branch of magic to travel great distances, right?" So what do you think? Would she consent to give us a ride?" Then the topic changed to how to get into the headquarters and everyone looked at him. What? He had no idea how they were going to do it. It wasn't like he was the master planner of the group. Mercury was beginning to feel uncomfortable from all the attention he was getting when Sam spoke. At first Mercury had no idea what she was talking about. But then he realized that she was talking about Pepper. The thought nearly made Mercury laugh. He couldn't believe that they had never thought about it before. God it was so obvious. The other thing that nearly made him laugh was that everyone was asking him if Pepper could help. In reality it wasn't up to him at all. It was up to Pepper. "What do you say, girl? Want to do something stupid?" he asked stroking her neck. Pepper scanned the room looking everyone in the eye. She was either counting how many people she had to transport or she was trying to figure out how determined these people were. When she was done she turned to face Mercury and nodded her head. She was in. "She'll do it," he said with a grin. He nodded his head at Cael's plan. It was insane but that was probably why it was going to work. The only thing that bothered him was that he and Xavier were in the same group now. Great. Oh, well. He would just have to resist the urge to 'accidently' jinx Xavier during the next duel. |

I'm pretty sure that both swords are vulnerable to other attacks when they're close to each other." Manfred listened to Caedmon's reply and was quite relieved that he had been wrong. At least this made killing Riddle easier. But that also meant that Riddle could destroy their sword just as easily. Who ever wielded this thing was going to have to be careful. God the more Manfred thought about it the more he realized that this was just a crap shoot. Either everything was going to work out and they would win or everything would go wrong and they would lose. There was no middle ground here. But that may have been because they were fighting for big stakes here. This wasn't a simple duel over who got the last cookie. This was for the wizarding world. It only made sense that something that important would be so risky to save. It seemed that Ralem had been correct in her assumption. Well that meant at the very least two people would be fighting Riddle. Manfred could tell by the way everyone was looking that they had already picked those two people. God help them. Despite what some people may have believed, Manfred did NOT think he should have been the one with the sword. He had faith in his abilities but he wasn't stupid. He realized that whoever was given the sword had to be someone extremely skilled, extremely experienced, and extremely lucky. Manfred was neither of those things. Even if he was arrogant enough to think he had what it took to save the wizarding world he knew they would never give him the sword. He was too much of a newbie. Actually Manfred would be lucky if they let him fight at all, judging from Ralem's reaction anyway. And Ralem can go and make sure he doesn't do anything stupid." It seemed that people thought Ralem should wield the sword-except Ralem. It seemed she was a little nervous playing with something as powerful and important as the sword. Manfred couldn't blame her but now wasn't the time to be having second thoughts. Then Cael spoke. Argh, now wasn't the time to try and play hero. But he doubted anyone was going to deny Cael the chance and Manfred wasn't going to open his mouth. He was on thin ice as it was, he wasn't going to make it worst by disagreeing with Cael. But then the idiot with the phoenix spoke. It seemed like a fair compromise and it made sense. Cael's reputation was enough to convince Manfred that he was suited to wield the sword and Manfred was just glad he wouldn't be in the same group as Ralem. He didn't think he could stand trying to duel while having Ralem hovering over his shoulder picking on everything he did. Besides it seemed that Ralem and Cael would work well together and Manfred was sure they could figure out a way to surprise Riddle, even if he was expecting Cael to come after him. "I will be happy to be part of the group that distracts the Death Eaters. Oh, and Sam or Manfred can have my dose of the Elixir. I dont think I need it seeing as how I'm kind of already immortal." Manfred looked at Katia surprised. True vampires were practically immortal, but one good killing curse...Manfred may not have been best friends with Katia but he didn't want to see her killed just because he had been greedy enough to take her elixir. Besides he didn't want it to look like he was a chicken or something. It was bad enough that he had been labeled the 'new guy' but to be the 'cowardly new guy' would have been ten times worst. Besides he didn't want them to think he expected special treatment because he was new or because he was a Boelcke. No, he wanted to be treated like any normal Order member. "Thank you," he said sincerely, "But I don't want it. I'll take the same amount as everyone else." "Also...I think we might have a pretty fool-proof way of getting inside Riddle's headquarters, if we can get past the Fidelius Charm at least." I don't think Riddle would ever consider a Phoenix to be a threat to him. But they use their own branch of magic to travel great distances, right?" So what do you think? Would she consent to give us a ride?" "What do you say, girl? Want to do something stupid?" "She'll do it," Manfred listened to Samantha slightly confused. He didn't know the idiot well enough but he didn't look like he was a brillant man or anything. In fact he looked...well he looked like an idiot and his behavior in the meeting didn't really disprove Manfred's assumption. But then Manfred noticed that Samantha was pointing at the phoenix. Oh yes! How could they have forgotten about that? It was so simple that Manfred felt stupid for not have thought of it himself. He cocked his head to the side as the idiot asked the phoenix. What the hell? It wasn't like the phoenix would talk or anything. The bird took a few minutes to scan the room before nodding her head. Well at least that was settled. Cael's plan sounded like a good idea. Well it seemed they had everything. They had a plan, it looked like Cael and Ralem would be facing Riddle, while everyone else (including Xavier) took care of the Death Eaters, they would be using the phoenix to enter Riddle's headquarters, and the chance that they would actually survive this suicidal mission was zero to none. Did they need to figure anything else out? |

"Riddle's going to expect Caelestis to wield the Eternal Sword. I'm sure of it, given everything he has undoubtedly heard and seen about his skills in duelling. Then there's the fact that Cael nearly killed him with the sword the last time we faced him, back in the summer..." “I agree. In fact, I'm 100% certain that Riddle's expecting Caelestis to be the one to fight him. Several months ago, he asked me to tell him everything concerning Cael's fighting style, his tactics and the magic he's capable of." If you’re thinking what I’m pretty sure you’re thinking, then… It might work. It might. But the more important issue is the fact that I’m not completely comfortable waving around a sword with powers that none of us completely understand.” Samantha put her (rather intelligent) mind once more to the test when the argument continued on who was going to wield the Eternal Sword in their fight with Voldemort. That Phoenix-idea of hers seemed like a good one; maybe Sam would get another brainwave? Unfortunately, it was complicated by the news that Xavier delivered... Sam hadn't been there the night Mircea died (he had, apparently been unaware that she was in the Order, so she didn't receive his fake message to call a meeting), but she'd heard that her father had come very close to hitting Voldemort with the sword... If Sam was Riddle, she would have most likely considered her father to be the most dangerous member of the Order of the Phoenix. If Riddle now knew everything there was to know about her father's style of duelling, then that meant Ralem was going to have to be the one to do it. Even if they didn't always get along, Sam didn't have a problem with that. But Ralem was rather reluctant and as she explained, it was obvious to Sam too. For starters, she didn't have the build to wield a sword that big and she probably didn't have any experience with any weapons like that either. They couldn't afford that in a fight to determine the fate of the wizarding world... Well, her father hadn't exactly had training either, but he had some more experience. Sam frowned as she thought it all over... The way this was looking, every option was the wrong one. But she didn't end up making a choice on the matter. "I'll do it. Lem's right. She's powerful, but I don't think she's suited to wield the sword itself. No... If Riddle wants me, he'll get me." "If we keep thinking like this we're going to drive ourselves insane. I think Cael and Ralem should go. Cael should go because....well he's Cael. And Ralem can go and make sure he doesn't do anything stupid." Normally, Sam would've given her father a confident smirk, but not this time. This wasn't the usual danger he was placing himself in, this was, well... Pretty much insane. But he and Mercury were right. The choice was down to her father and Lem anyway; might aswell pick the one most qualified to fight Riddle with it. Samantha nodded to show her approval. Besides, if Riddle thought he could beat him just because he knew how he fought, then he was going to be in for a rough surprise. It wasn't going to be a fair fight either; Lem would be there to back her father up. Yes... This was the best choice... At least, that's what Sam tried to convince herself of... "I will be happy to be part of the group that distracts the Death Eaters. Oh, and Sam or Manfred can have my dose of the Elixir. I dont think I need it seeing as how I'm kind of already immortal." "Are you certain? It doesn't matter to me which group I'm assigned to. If you don't want me to help you fight Riddle, I'll be glad to keep the other Death Eaters off your back." "Thank you. But I don't want it. I'll take the same amount as everyone else." "That's right, Katia, you should take some too. Those Death Eaters will be more dangerous than ever and it might not matter whether you're a vampire or not," Samantha quickly added after Manfred had spoken. There were several reasons for this: 1) Sam had grown to respect and like Katia (her turning into a vampire didn't change that), even if there had been moments were she worried whether her allegiance was questionable; 2) as she'd said, being a vampire or not wasn't going to matter if the Death Eaters were using the Killing Curse (which was most certainly going to be the case) and 3) Sam didn't want some preferential treatment just because she was younger and she was sure that Manfred felt the same way. "And I guess I'll be in the group that fights the Death Eaters too," Samantha admitted. A part of her wanted to look after her father; normally, she wouldn't be too worried but this was Voldemort he was facing. But she'd consent to staving off Riddle's cronies and keeping an eye on Xavier. "What do you say, girl? Want to do something stupid? She'll do it." Samantha smiled when Caedmon, Katia, Xavier and Ralem all voiced their support for her idea. She looked at the Phoenix again when Mercury asked her whether she wanted to help, wondering just how smart those birds were. As the Phoenix seemed to take a good look at everyone in the room, Sam was reminded that she (and probably a lot of other people that shopped at Ollivanders) had a wand with a Phoenix feather at it's core and wondered just how many there were out there in the world. It was a beautiful bird, but Samantha knew that you couldn't buy one at a pet shop in Diagon Alley. Sam beamed at the bird when Mercury made it obvious she agreed. She then looked around the room again. It seemed like they'd discussed pretty much everything... |

"I think you're giving me a headache. But you're probably right. I'm pretty sure that both swords are vulnerable to other attacks when they're close to each other." Caedmon nodded curtly when Xavier, once again, confirmed his suspicions. Sort of, anyway. The more the Professor thought about it, the more he thought that the Wraith didn't exactly know what he was talking about. Contrary to what it may seem like, however, that didn't mean Caed thought him stupid; the workings of objects that had been placed under such complex, immensely powerful magic was way beyond any of them and it was only because he'd researched the Ancient's Tomb with Varius that Caedmon had some understanding of it. He wondered just how everything would work out... It seemed impossible to think that Riddle had truly created something superior to the Eternal Sword... No, most likely, they just needed to be very careful in their battle with Voldemort. With a little luck, there would be nothing to worry about. At least, concerning the swords... Voldemort was an extremely powerful sorcer: could they really beat him in a duel? Caedmon placed his hand in his pocket and once again touched the lid covering the small box containing the Elder Wand. It hadn't come up in this meeting, but Caed wondered whether it would still have a role to play before this was all over... “If you’re thinking what I’m pretty sure you’re thinking, then…It might work. It might. But the more important issue is the fact that I’m not completely comfortable waving around a sword with powers that none of us completely understand.” "I'll do it. Lem's right. She's powerful, but I don't think she's suited to wield the sword itself. No... If Riddle wants me, he'll get me." "If we keep thinking like this we're going to drive ourselves insane. I think Cael and Ralem should go. Cael should go because....well he's Cael. And Ralem can go and make sure he doesn't do anything stupid." Ralem wasn't the only one uncomfortable the idea of her handling the Eternal Sword; of course, Caedmon's reasons were not entirely related to the future of the wizarding world... He was more concerned for Lem herself. So he nearly sighed in relief when Caelestis put his foot down on the matter and insisted on him taking Riddle out. It would still be dangerous, but maybe Lem would be a little safer... Oh, who did Caed think he was kidding? Everyone that was going to participate in this battle was in incredible danger. Especially if they were going to fight Riddle anyway, with the sword or not. Caedmon finally resigned himself to the fact that it was possible that not all of them were going to make it out unharmed. He just had to trust in everyone's skills and their luck... "I'll fight the Death Eaters aswell. I don't think I'll be much use around Riddle," Caedmon said, looking over at Ralem with some concern. He wanted to stay with her, but it was useless. What was he going to do with Caelestis and Lem fighting Voldemort? Then again, he might not be much of a help around the Death Eaters either; the last person Caed had really duelled had been Erica Winters and that hadn't turned out really well. Oh, well... At least his presence made the distraction seem more realistic. "What do you say, girl? Want to do something stupid? She'll do it." Caed managed a small smile at Mercury and his Phoenix, then looked around the group. "I don't think there's much more to discuss. We have a plan. Everything now depends on Xavier," he glanced at the Wraith for a moment, "being able to get us past the Fidelius Charm on Riddle's headquarters. Then we'll get inside with Mercury's Phoenix. Me, Katia, Mercury, Samantha, Manfred, Xavier and any other Order-member that wants to join will distract the Death Eaters. Meanwhile, Caelestis and Ralem will take the Eternal Sword and face Riddle." Caedmon succinctly summed up the results of their meeting. "This is it... I can't believe this might be the final battle," Caed added before he could stop himself. |

She's powerful, but I don't think she's suited to wield the sword itself. No... If Riddle wants me, he'll get me." Katia looked at Cael and Ralem with concern. She was glad she wasnt the one facing Riddle with an unfamiliar sword. She couldnt honestly think of two better people to do this task though. Both of them were fantastic duelists so they shouldnt have much trouble defeating Riddle. Still though, this was a huge risk. Cael had a big family who depended on him, not to mention his students at Hogwarts. The Order would be devastated if anything happened to him...or Ralem for that matter. Everyone knew this would be true because they've been through this before. When they thought Cael had died a couple years ago, Katia honestly thought the Order would fall apart. She hoped they would go through that again. All she could say to them was, "Good luck guys." "Are you certain?" What do you care? Katia felt like asking Xavier this very question out loud but knew he would only ignore her. Still, she wondered why he even asked her if she was certain. Of course she was sure about this! Why would she say it if she didnt mean it? Katia wasnt trying to be a martyr....only stating a fact. She didnt want to take the Elixir because she would be fine without it. There may have been slight concern in Xavier's voice when he asked and she was trying very hard to ignore it because it wasnt concern for her. No, he was worried about his own ass and how her decision would affect him. She knew him well enough to know he didnt care about her. Katia was fine with that. In fact, it may things easier for her. Glaring at him now, she simply said, "If I wasnt certain about it, then I wouldnt have said it." "Thank you. But I don't want it. I'll take the same amount as everyone else." "That's right, Katia, you should take some too. Those Death Eaters will be more dangerous than ever and it might not matter whether you're a vampire or not." Well, dont say she didnt try and help them out. She was sure they didnt want special treatment because they were the young ones in the group but that didnt mean Katia couldnt try and look after them anyway. What was wrong with that? She nodded at their responses but still wished they would've accepted her offer. Whether they liked it or not, they needed extra protection. Katia didnt want anything to happen to either of them. She could really care less about herself during all of this. What she was going to focus on during this battle was making sure everyone else was safe and making sure she did her part in getting rid of Riddle. "I appreciate your concern, Sam, but my mind is made up." "I don't think there's much more to discuss. We have a plan. Everything now depends on Xavier being able to get us past the Fidelius Charm on Riddle's headquarters. Then we'll get inside with Mercury's Phoenix. Me, Katia, Mercury, Samantha, Manfred, Xavier and any other Order-member that wants to join will distract the Death Eaters. Meanwhile, Caelestis and Ralem will take the Eternal Sword and face Riddle. This is it... I can't believe this might be the final battle." Caedmon's words made Katia pause for a moment. Oh great. Just when she'd assumed she could get as far away from Xavier during all of this she ended up fighting with him during this next battle. Well, wherever he was going to be, she was going in the opposite direction. How unlucky could one person be in their lifetime? Katia swore she had the worst luck of anyone else in this shack. She rubbed her forehead and groaned in frustration. The sword on her lap caught her attention. She couldnt wait to give these things back. Anyways, back to the matter at hand. Caedmon could be right. This could be the last time all of them were together. Some of them could seriously be hurt this upcoming battle and it made Katia sad to think about it. She looked at each person in the room and prayed that everyone survived this ordeal. |

“If you’re thinking what I’m pretty sure you’re thinking, then…It might work. It might. I think Cael and Ralem should go. Cael should go because....well he's Cael. And Ralem can go and make sure he doesn't do anything stupid." Xavier wasn't sure how he felt about this turn of events, but he didn't say anything. He couldn't argue with their logic. It was true that Caelestis was a better fit for the Eternal Sword than Tarendeau, even if Voldemort was prepared to face him and wouldn't have expected anyone else. Xavier merely glanced in his cousin's direction, wondering whether he had what it took to defeat the Dark Lord himself with that fancy blade... The answer that sprung to mind immediately was 'no'. Voldemort was already the greatest wizard of all time; since he returned, he gained Varius's knowledge aswell and had grown even stronger. He was beyond any of them - the difference was like night and day or heaven and earth. A better question would be: could Cael hold Riddle off long enough for someone else to disarm him or bring about some other opportunity to deliver a final blow? Xavier ran a hand through his white hair and watched his younger cousin intently, remembering everything Caelestis had faced so far... It might be possible for him to pull it off. In any case, he and Lem were their best shot. Unless Xavier himself got the opportunity to enter the fray and join them in their battle with Voldemort. "If I wasnt certain about it, then I wouldnt have said it." Xavier made a mental note never to show concern for anyone again. He merely resisted the urge to roll his eyes when Katia glared at him. Still, it made him wonder: did he actually care about her? There was a curious look in Xavier's dark eyes as he considered the possibility... It was true that there was a slight level of attraction to Katia, when they'd just met... But at the time, Xavier had seen her as nothing more than someone to exploit for his own schemes. He had paid little heed to her afterwards, but Xavier wouldn't deny that she had remained one of his closest contacts in the Order. Without Katia, he might not have been able to set up this meeting. Well, Cael had become more trusting again, too... But still. Xavier then shifted slightly and put the matter from his mind. It was irrelevant. In any case, they were allies now. "I don't think there's much more to discuss. We have a plan. I can't believe this might be the final battle." After Banks and his Phoenix had agreed to Samantha's request, it seemed the meeting was drawing to an end. The plan (summarised by Caedmon) had been made. There wasn't anything more to discuss. "I'll return to the Death Eaters and I'll obtain a note with the address to his headquarters. You can contact me if there's anything else you'll need," Xavier said to the group, before turning to Katia specifically. He held out his hand. "I'll need my weapons back. And before you even think it - Riddle has examined my sword and my wand. He'll notice immediately if he sees there has been tampered with," Xavier added, counting the possibility that the Order would keep them in their custody and give him some lousy fakes. |

"I'll do it. Lem's right. She's powerful, but I don't think she's suited to wield the sword itself. No... If Riddle wants me, he'll get me." "I say the two of us sneak around and go to Riddle, while the rest take Xavier and fight the Death Eaters." "If we keep thinking like this we're going to drive ourselves insane, I think Cael and Ralem should go. Cael should go because....well he's Cael. And Ralem can go and make sure he doesn't do anything stupid." Lem sighed inwardly with relief when Cael almost 'demanded' to be the one to wield the sword. She knew he wasn't doubting her abilities, and even if he had, she wouldn't have cared. Not when she as well doubted herself. To be the one with the burden of the sword? No, Lem preferred to use her own element. After all, she would be more help to Cael with her magic. Lem nodded her head in agreement with Cael's plan and looked around to see whether anyone objected. They shouldn't really. Since it was just going to be Cael and Lem, it would be easier to sneak in and stay undetected. More people would have been a cause for concern. "Yes Banks, I'll make sure he doesn't attempt to 'sacrifice' himself for us, alright?" Lem smirked at Mercury's little joke. But she knew deep down that she would have to make sure that Cael didn't do anything stupid. "I don't think there's much more to discuss. We have a plan. Everything now depends on Xavier, being able to get us past the Fidelius Charm on Riddle's headquarters. Then we'll get inside with Mercury's Phoenix. He'll notice immediately if he sees there has been tampered with," "Right. Plan's set, Xavier will give us the address and then we'll attack. Let's hope this is the final battle. Getting rid of Riddle will provide some peace in our lives. Let's do the best we can, alright?" Lem glared at Xavier. "Really? You think we'd try something like that?" Lem turned to Katia. "Just give them to him. There's no point in making him anxious." Turning back to Xavier, "You better get us that address." It wasn't a threat, it wasn't a command. Lem had almost begged Xavier. Maybe because some part of her wanted to believe that this wasn't a trap. Or maybe she wanted to finally be done with Riddle. Whatever it was, Lem didn't care. Xavier had better provide his side of the bargain. "Alright then. Let's get some sleep." Lem pulled out her wand and with a small movement, the green-flamed coat hanger was put out and slid back into place. "Good night," she offered before leaving the room and heading for Hogwarts. She would need to get some good sleep before whatever day came that she faced Riddle with the Order. She also made a mental note to find out who Manfred was. He annoyed her. And the elixir. She would have to pick that up too. Sending a letter to Xavier couldn't hurt... |
