Many months ago, I found a DVD review that compared the American release of Watership Down with the Australian Big Sky release; I had wanted to post it here, but then I lost the link. Today I stumbled across the page again.

I already know of the extra features the Aussie version has, but what I found most interesting was the comparison between the DVD transfers, i.e., the appearance of the films on DVD. It seems that in fact, the Aussie version was not restored, but filtered, making it look blurred. There are screenshots showing this difference.

I'm not trying to bash Big Sky, as they released two of the greatest animated films to DVD. :) I just wanted to show the page, since it's related to WD and is rather entertaining.

Heh, fancy that...I didn't get that technical on my site about how things looked. I certainly knew the Region 1 release looked sharper, but I figured that had more to do with I was using a Region 1 disc with Region 1 equipment, and a unique hack to play the Aussie release using the same thing.

The audio will sound a bit different if you hook your dvd player or computer up to anything decent with a sub. The commentary was the real reason I went for the Aussie version in the first place. :) I certainly agree with him on that.
