A few weeks ago i decided to watch the animated version of Watership Down shown on Film 4 at 7: 20. I'd never before heard of either the book or the film, so this was the first time i had ever seen it, and it blew my mind.

From start to finish the film enraptured me and i'm not ashamed to say i blubbed like a baby at the end. The story was brutal and grim, yet at the same time exuded a warmth of feeling that captured my imagination and hasn't let me go since.

I went straight out and bought the novel, which again was nothing but genius, and i finished it in a day before scouring the internet for anything else Watership Down.

I learnt of the animated series and immeidiately ordered it off amazon. I was half-term, so my days were spent reliving Richard Adams' from another perspective, one that i consider just as good as the film production and the novel.

I now consider Watership Down the pinnacle of literate fiction, and it has very quickly turned into an obsession. Although a little scary at first, the fact that there are others out there who share my views and my love of this great novel really makes me feel that this is a thing that can be treasured by so many people from all around.

Thanks to Inle-rah for this website and this forum!
Well, George Lewis told the Englishman, the Italian and the Jew:
"You can't open up your mind, boys
To every conceivable point of view."
They got Charles Darwin trapped out there on Highway Five
Judge says to the High Sheriff: "I want him dead or alive."

Welcome to the forum!

Watership Down likewise turned into a bit of an obsession for me shortly after I discovered the book (from the oddest of sources... someone was reading it on the TV show "Lost", and there was a letter to the editor in TV guide asking what book that was). I soon after saw the movie, and it was actually done better than most books taken from movies that I can name, not leaving out much at all.

Shortly after that, I found Inle-Rah's warren, and have been here ever since. I've never seen the animated series, though I've been quite curious to.

Anyway, welcome to the forum! :)

Welcome to the warren! :) I read the novel in high school for a book report, and liked it. Some years later, I bought myself a copy of the book, and its sequel. In 2004, I ordered the DVD of the film, since I was at that time gaining interest in old animated movies. The rest, of course, is history.^^

Well the animated series to me was brilliant, even thou fans have a negative view about it. This christmas I got the novel (I only had a word document on my computer) and the complete boxset of the animated series. I brought the film a while before, Ive also got a beanie toy of bigwig (what he looks like in the series). Not bad for someone who only discovered watership down about 3 months ago.

Im only up to where they met Cowslip in the book, a long time left to go.
