News Central Wednesday January 18, 2006 ========================== # Jeff Kujawa's shocking heel turn and betrayal of his friend, Independent Super-Lightweight champion Usagi Yoshida, on last night's show was all over the Japanese media today. The backlash continues with Dream Fujin announcing the main event for tonight's show in Tsuyama - Shoji Tamura, Jeff Kujawa and Bombay Kaijin against Usagi Yoshida, Griffin James and Crazy Bastard Cop! # Who will challenge Yoshida for his title at the next Super Energy Battle TV taping? Right now the best odds would be on one of the following: Shoji Tamura - the rookie phenomenon has been in hot form lately and is the logical number one contender; Jeff Kujawa - by virtue of his betrayal of Yoshida. A Yoshida-Kujawa match would sell out most arenas; or Tate Monroe - undoubtedly the form wrestler in DF right now. # Pro Wrestling NOW magazine, Griffin James' link between his Dream Fujin career and his American fans, was able to catch up with the Fort Washington, MD native and got his thoughts on current happenings, including Genji Gempachi's injury, the current tour, and a few other things... On the subject of Genji Gempachi's injury, James said that he was "disappointed" and "a bit frustrated". He elaborated: "I wanted to get things over with and done, and now I have to wait. This dude made it his mission to antagonize me and make my Dream Fujin career a living hell, taunting me and attacking my friends in the process. Does he think I forgot about him taking Crazy Bastard Cop's mask? Of course not. The type of ill will I'm looking to cause him _will not_ go away because he's got a rib injury. It's like a boil, really. It's sick, what I'm thinking about. Disgusting. It's gonna fester and pop eventually, and when I get my hands on him, whenever that may be, it won't be pretty. I can guarantee that. The dude represents everything I hate about the sport, so obviously... I'm gonna do my damndest to end him." On the current tour: "Er, my focus has shifted a bit, naturally. With Gempachi having a bit of a rib fit, I am officially Aimless Boy... tagging's fun, though. I get to switch it up, cut loose sometimes- it makes for an interesting series of matches at the end of the tour, I think. It's cool seeing new faces, too... especially dudes you've seen before that stab your friends in the back." Naturally, this led to comments about Jeff Kujawa: "Meh, good ol' Jeff. Always pushing the envelope- you know, the same, liquor stained, crumpled up one that folks have been pushing for years. He's a potty mouth, possibly a born-again Christian. We hooked up in GLCW- it was a Kinsey moment, that's for sure. I can't say I'm surprised at what he pulled- just a little disappointed that the usual bullshit is invading my new home. 'Neeneer neeneer neeener, my ego outweighs my natural lack of common sense and makes me think I'm better than you! Ho, fellow hive minded individuals! Let us band together and oppress individuality! Say, there's a bit of a table- hit those scurrying fellows with it... now... STOMPING FOR THE MASSES!' Someone get me my tank, 'cuz General Gonna Getcha is gonna to war a bit early, methinks." And finally, when asked what a "Kinsey moment" is: "I can't say. It would ruin the secrets of pro wrestling." # Mexican luchador El Hijo del Super Macho spoke to reporters backstage following his match at last night's show. Yomiuri Sports printed some of his comments. On wrestling in Dream Fujin: "I've always wanted to compete in Japan - there's just something so... I guess _intriguing_ about it. I wrestle in Mexico, I've wrestled in the US, and by wrestling here in Japan I can truly know if I've got what it takes to be one of the best junior-heavyweights in the world." On his mask: "My Papi is my hero. We got to work together in RCW, where he was a referee and I was a graduate of their wrestling school, which was so cool. When RCW closed and I went back to Mexico, I decided to adopt the mask that my father wore with pride for so many years. Hopefully I can honour my Papi with my actions in the ring." On opponents he'd like to face in Dream Fujin: "I've already been in the ring with Darkness Kitty! and Nobutaka Takase, which was pretty cool. Hopefully I'll get the chance to wrestle guys like Griffin James and Usagi Yoshida, but even if that doesn't happen, I'm loving every minute of being in the Dream Fujin ring." # During a short postmatch interview for Dream Fujin cameras, Tate Monroe brushed off his unusually aggressive display during his match at Okayama Orange Hall on Tuesday, characterizing it simply as "My competitive spirit raising its head" after what he termed "an obvious lack of respect" show him by Super Orange Panda during a technical mat exchange. When asked if he was looking forward to stepping in the ring again with Panda at the 18/1 Tsuyama City Gymnasium show, he was fairly dismissive. "Not especially, it's just another match as far as I'm concerned. We already won tonight and it was Panda who took the fall for his team, so I don't think there's really much more to prove." He also commented briefly on the three-man assault on Usagi Yoshida that closed the Okayama show. "Whatever, it doesn't really interest me. I'd rather earn my shot at Yoshida's title in the ring, if that's what their intent is." © Dream Fujin, 2006. |
