============================== Ichiban Bakari (Only the Best) Saturday January 14, 2006 Towada Citizen Gymnasium 750 paid fans claimed ============================== MEGA boss Wataru Yasuda came out and addressed the crowd, again thanking them for their support, and reiterating his promise to bring pure athleticism back to pro wrestling. He announced that next Friday a special show will be held in Kuroishi, and on that show the first MEGA-1 champion would be crowned, at the conclusion of a one-night eight-man tournament. He announced tonight's main event, Wasai Thrillblade against HERO Ishikawa, which was met with a loud ovation. Match one: Shigeo Hotta[Free]{x} & Shiori Tanisaki[RISE] [12'00" Enzuigiri] Naruki Owashi[RISE] & Tokuji Yokuno[RISE]{o} - To help fill out the card, Yasuda had asked Hotta to bring in a few of his friends from the Tokyo independent wrestling scene. Hotta brought in three regulars of the RISE promotion - high-flyer Owashi, 10-year veteran Tanisaki and perennial mid-carder Yokuno. None of the four is really anything special, and this match was pure indy sloppiness all the way. Match two: Takashi Munenori[Kigai] [14'34" Anklehold] Takahiro Uei - Another newcomer brought in for this card was the MMA competitor Takashi Munenori, who fights out of the Kigai promotion in Tokyo. Munenori is impressive looking - very toned and strong - and he showed that he can use both strikes and groundwork, but he's no wrestler. He looked lost in the pro wrestling ring. Uei tried his best to put on a good match, but was overpowered by Munenori. Match three: Wataru Yasuda, Hideki Shimoda{x} & Akitoshi Yano [15'38" Swanton bomb] Jin Ketsumo, Ryo Hosaka & Kochiro Miyake{o} - This was _very_ one sided, but that's to be expected when you put a team of experienced campaigners, including the company boss, up against three greenhorn rookies. What we had was 15 odd minutes of Ketsumo, Hosaka and Miyake playing the underdogs, showing rookie fighting spirit as the grizzled veteran heels took them apart. Comebacks were teased, but ultimately cut off by Yasuda and company. Match four - Main Event: HERO Ishikawa [21'52" HERO's Welcome] "Wild Zero" Wasai Thrillblade - This was the first big singles match in Pro Wrestling MEGA history, and boy was it a good one. HERO showed why at various times he's been considered the best junior-heavyweight in the world, as he thrilled the crowd with his showmanship and athleticism. Thrillblade also enjoyed his moment in the limelight, playing the heel in this match with his usual punk rudo attitude. HERO's been known for his own rudo antics in the past, and he brought them out in this match, as the two men tried to out-rudo each other, the fans loving every minute of it. By the end of the match the fans were eagerly chanting "HE-RO! HE-RO!", and a massive standing ovation greeted the outcome, as Ishikawa hit Thrillblade with his HERO's Welcome (Michinoku Driver IIb) and got the 3-count. Overall comments: The main event was solid, but the rest of the card was average. Yasuda's having to bring in a lot of outside, unproven talent at this point, and to be honest a lot of it hasn't impressed at all. The RISE guys are mid-card material at best, and Munenori has no place in a wrestling ring. Yasuda has the right idea with pushing Ishikawa though - he's the ace that this company has to rest its hat on. |
