Sapporo Teisen Hall February 14, 2006 900 fans - As has become customary at the start of Dream Fujin tours, company owner Billy Thomas came to the ring and talked about the upcoming tour, and about DF in general. He then introduced the four wrestlers who will be representing Dream Fujin in the upcoming NEO-International World title tournament - Shoji Tamura, Darkness Kitty!, Usagi Yoshida and Griffin James. The four men stood in the ring, but an argument broke out between Tamura and Yoshida, which led to some pushing and shoving before they were moved apart. After order was restored, Thomas thanked the fans for coming and for their patience during the recent show cancellations. Match one - Rookie tryout series #1: Racer X, Jet Black & Northstar{x} [11'34" North Fist] Haratake{o}, Ultraman Zeta & Ice Dragon - This was the fans' first look at this new batch of rookies. Right away it was obvious that someone in Dream Fujin is an anime/cartoon fan, with four of the new wrestlers having gimmicks which borrowed from animation. Racer X was dressed like the same-named character from the Speed Racer cartoon, Jet Black like the same-named character from Cowboy Bebop, Northstar like the main character in Fist of the Northstar, and Ultraman Zeta as a slight variation on the popular Ultraman character. Haratake's outfit was that of a mushroom, while Ice Dragon wore an elaborate mask and outfit which was silvery blue in color. [For pictures of the wrestlers, see http://www.geocities.com/dreamfujin/dojo.html]. This match was full of the missed spots, awkward moments and general sloppiness you'd expect when six rookies are in the ring together. Ultraman Zeta seemed to be the most over with the fans, but that's probably more of a reflection on the costume than anything. Ice Dragon and Northstar impressed the most in terms of wrestling - Northstar using a kick-based offense and Ice Dragon combining quick movement in the ring with an awesome corkscrew plancha. Northstar picked up the win when he ducked a lariat from Haratake and nailed him with a springboard roundhouse punch, which he calls the North Fist, covering for the three count. Match two - Panda Trial Series #1: Super Orange Panda [9'45" Pandasault] Kotaro Shimita - This series was ordered by Panda's current/former mentor, Darkness Kitty!, following the Rebels Without a Pulse's loss of the Trinity X titles on the last Super Energy Battle taping. A long time favourite of the fans, Panda is going through something of a crisis, and it is hoped that this series will determine whether he still has what is needed to succeed in Dream Fujin. Shimita, a wrestler who has been in something of a slump himself lately, looked fired up for this match and really pushed Panda to the limit. He looked like winning after hitting Panda with a missile dropkick to the back of the head, but Panda kicked out. With the fans urging him on, Panda nailed a big lariat, then the Pandasault for the 1-2-3. Match three: Norihiko Miura{x}, Shiro Namiguchi & El Hijo del Super Macho[ILL] [15'06" Samsara] Apollo Kid III, Kyuki Shonjo & Tornado JINTEI{o} - One of these teams - Apollo, Shonjo and JINTEI - has teamed before on several occasions, but the other combination was a brand new one, comprised of the wrestling monk (Miura), the former Uchu Koujin Red now wrestling minus the mask (Namiguchi) and the Mexican luchador (EHdSM). Super Macho is only appearing on two shows on this tour, filling in until two NEXT wrestlers arrive from Stateside, and unfortunately it was all to clear that he was filling in an obligation in this match. He was lacking his usual enthusiasm, but luckily Shonjo was in a mood to fill that void. Once again he played the underdog role well, taking a sustained beating from Miura in particular but refusing to give up or be pinned, as the fans got right in behind him. Namiguchi shone in brief moments, but didn't show too much to thrill the fans. Still, it was hard to believe that this was the same wrestler who was previously under the Uchu Koujin Red mask. Gone were the comedy antics, replaced by a very serious young man. Miura was undoubtedly the star of the match, as you would expect. The fans applauded all of his monk-related spots, in particular the prayer-motions and his hard-hitting, methodical style. He was particularly brutal on Shonjo, hitting a brutal fireman's carry into a double knee gutbuster, a vicious kneedrop to the back of the head and a barrage of chops on the rookie. The end of the match came after Super Macho launched from the ring, taking down Apollo with a huracanrana at ringside, while Shonjo and Namiguchi recovered on the floor. Miura hit JINTEI with a brutal series of kicks, then clamped on his sickle hold, which he calls the Samsara, forcing JINTEI to tap out. Match four: Tate Monroe[HVW] [9'22" Disqualification] Bombay Kaijin - He may have come up short in his quest to win the Independent Super-Lightweight title on the last tour, but the American Monroe has very quickly gone from an unknown quantity here in Japan to being one of the most feared wrestlers to come to these shores. The technician's success continued tonight with a solid win over Bombay Kaijin, but it came via disqualification. Monroe and Kaijin contested a hard-fought match for the first seven or so minutes, as the American dominated the mat-wrestling sequences, before Kaijin took control with a release Dragon suplex. He tried to pound Monroe into submission with strikes and hard-hitting moves, like a 450 legdrop, which got 2 1/2. Monroe came back briefly, but later found himself trapped in a painful crucifix armbreaker around the ringpost! The referee managed to get them apart before serious damage could be done to Monroe's arm. He clearly favoured it though, and Kaijin went to work on it with stomps, knees and strikes. But his arrogance got the better of Kaijin, as he left Monroe prone on the mat and went for his shooting star press legdrop, the Twisted Cycle Carasal. Monroe moved, leaving Kaijin to hit hard, then ducked a punch and hit a northern lights suplex with a perfect bridge for 2 3/4! Monroe had Kaijin in trouble, getting another close count from a bridged German suplex. He yelled out that he was going for his favoured submission hold, the dragon sleeper/chickenwing combo with body scissors, but as he was hooking on the dragon sleeper, Kaijin suddenly sprayed blue mist up into Monroe's face! The referee saw it and called for the bell, immediately disqualifying Kaijin. Kaijin argued with the official, threatening to hit him, but then laughed in his face, before walking off with a cocky look on his face, as ring attendants helped Monroe. He looked to be in a lot of pain, with the blue mist having hit him in the eyes, and had to be helped to the back. Match five: Griffin James{x} & Crazy Bastard Cop [8'26" Fujingun Stinger] Hasselhoff SE & British Steel{o} - This match was all Griffin James. Even Hasselhoff SE didn't get the chance to do much of his usual crowd-pleasing antics, like the "beach run", as James was just simply dominant. He seemed much more focused than on the last tour, and as per usual brought DEM 'BOWS with brutal intensity. CBC was really just in support mode, tagging in and out to help James with a series of doubleteam moves, while also engaging in a nice lucha-style sprint with Steel at the very beginning of the match. After a roaring elbow got only a 2 3/4 count, as Steel got his foot onto the ropes, James lined up the mullet-wigged rocker and then delivered a move never seen before in Dream Fujin - a spear-like move that impacted with an elbow into the chest heart-punch style. Absolutely devastating. He calls it the Fujingun Stinger, and it was lights out for British Steel. Match six - main event: Darkness Kitty! & Usagi Yoshida{x} [18'19" US*AG~ISM] Shoji Tamura & Jeff Kujawa[Free]{o} - The crowd was excited to see the unusual combination of Darkness Kitty! and their champion, Usagi Yoshida, who were in stark contrast in more ways than one, including colours (DK! in all black and Yoshida with his shock of bright pink hair) and attitudes (DK! all solemn and emotionless and Yoshida bouncy, bubbly and grinning). Yoshida once again got the pink streamer treatment, and Kitty! even had a few black ones thrown into the ring when he was announced. The lack of experience as a team cost Yoshida and Kitty! early, as the heels took control and isolated Kitty! for a long period of punishment. Kujawa and Tamura hit a couple of awesome doubleteam spots, including one where Kujawa did a giant swing on Kitty!, swinging him around and around until Tamura springboarded in and dropkicked him right in the head! Awesome! The hot tag to Yoshida came about 10 minutes in, and the Pink Spider went nuts on both of his opponents, before taking Kujawa into a corner and peppering him with punches, the fans loving the fact that their champion was getting a measure of retribution for Kujawa's betrayal on the last tour. Yoshida then backed up, blew a gum bubble, and then teed off, kicking Kujawa right in the groin! Tamura and Kujawa made a comeback, but then Tamura was sent from the ring, and Kujawa was caught up top... in a most unique way. Yoshida grabbed him by the groin in his patented crotch claw, but while Kujawa was up top! Then, in something we haven't seen before, Yoshida actually lifted Kujawa off the turnbuckle and turned him around in mid-air, hitting a crotch claw version of a chokeslam! A split second later, Kitty! came flying in with a springboard kneedrop, covering for a close 2 1/2! Another cool spot saw Tamura and Kujawa recovering at ringside, and Kitty! and Yoshida sprinting and diving through the ropes in diagonal opposite corners, hitting big no hands topes onto their two opponents! As Kitty! and Tamura battled at ringside, Yoshida and Kujawa resumed their battle in the ring, Kujawa hitting a superkick, then lifting the Pink Spider up into a fireman's carry, and yelling out "Eat my Cum!" (the name of his new move). But as he transitioned into the Michinoku Driver II, Yoshida dropped backwards, landing on his feet and lifting Kujawa up into a tombstone position. He spiked Kujawa on his head, then quickly made his way to the top, before nailing his corkscrew moonsault, the US*AG~ISM, which was enough for the 3-count. Afterwards the fans gave a big ovation to the winners, who still looked a little wary of each other, but they then mounted opposite corners and soaked up the cheers of the crowd. Overall comments: The rookies were pretty much how you'd expect them to be - green but full of enthusiasm. Super Orange Panda got his trial series off to the best possible start, but will he be able to keep his winning form up when he faces Namiguchi tomorrow night? Tate Monroe and Griffin James both looked as strong as ever, even stronger than usual in the case of James, who seems to be more focused than we've ever seen him. That can't be a good thing for his opponents. Kitty! and Yoshida gave the crowd what they wanted, and made an effective duo, although it was clear that they probably don't trust each other too much. Overall, a solid start to the tour. © Dream Fujin, 2006.
