Yoyogi National Stadium Gymnasium #2 Monday February 20 1900 fans - Moments before the 7pm opening bell time, the ring was suddenly stormed by wrestlers from Pro Wrestling MEGA. Led by MEGA owner Wataru Yasuda, the group included MEGA-1 champion HERO Ishikawa, Wasai Thrillblade, Takahiro Uei and Hideki Shimoda, all wearing black Pro Wrestling MEGA t-shirts and waving a big black MEGA flag. Yasuda got on the microphone and answered the challenge that Billy Thomas had sent out in the press over the last few days, saying that a MEGA team would definitely show up at Hakata Star Lane in 5 days time, and they would _beat_ a Fujingun team in a series of five one-on-one matches, to prove their supremacy. Out of the back walked Griffin James and Usagi Yoshida, bringing a big cheer from the crowd. They didn't enter the ring, but stood at ringside, defiantly staring at the MEGA wrestlers. Yasuda laughed, commenting on the fact that just two men had shown up to stand up to them. But then Norihiko Miura, Apollo Kid III and Kyuki Shonjo walked out to join James and Yoshida, and the Fujingun army charged the ring! Suddenly it was all on in the ring, as the two factions went to war. After a few minutes of brawling, security (ring attendants) entered to get the two sides apart, but the fans were warmed up and eager to see the 10-man tagteam main event later on the show. Match one - Rookie tryout series #7: Ultraman Zeta, Ice Dragon{x} & Steel Cougar [13'29" Dragon suplex] Racer X, Northstar & Jet Black{o} - The rookie tryout series came to an end with probably the best match so far. All but Jet Black and Racer X put on a good show, with Ultraman Zeta working the crowd perfectly, and Steel Cougar putting on the best workrate performance. Ice Dragon picked up the win Match two: Darkness Kitty! [9'23" DK Suplex] Shiro Namiguchi - Kitty!, having turned his back on the Fujingun cause, received a smattering of boos from the crowd as he resumed his ongoing battle with the former Uchu Koujin Red, Shiro Namiguchi. Namiguchi put up a good fight, using his speed to keep Kitty! off balance, but in the end Kitty! was just too good, picking up the win after the DK Suplex (half-tiger, half-leg clutch suplex). Match three: Hasselhoff SE{x} & British Steel [11'45" Powerbomb] Tornado JINTEI & Kotaro Shimita{o} - Yet another meeting between these two teams, and it ended in familiar fashion, with the Wigged Warriors picking up the win. The match was listless, apart from the comedic antics of Hasselhoff and Steel, and really did nothing to inspire the crowd. Match four: Non-title: Tate Monroe[HVW], Elvis Sunday[NEXT] & Ty Walker[NEXT] [18'28" Disqualification] Shoji Tamura, Jeff Kujawa[Free] & Bombay Kaijin - The Trinity X champions came out first. After the gaijin team entered, Tate Monroe asked for the microphone. In English, he delivered a message to Shoji Tamura on behalf of Griffin James. Monroe said that James owed Tamura some payback for what he did to Crazy Bastard Cop, and that payback would be coming soon. But for now James had some other business to take care of (the Fujingun vs MEGA war), and in the meantime Monroe and his American friends would teach Tamura's gang a lesson on behalf of James. A brawl started things off, with nothing of real note in the opening minutes as they then broke down to the traditional pairings - Sunday and Kaijin battling, then Walker and Kujawa, and finally Monroe and Tamura. What followed was a nearly-20-minute spotfest that the fans loved to death. Monroe, Sunday and Walker showed some good cohesion for a first-time combination, although they had to weather the storm when Walker played face in peril for a good 10 minutes, surviving an array of double and triple-team moves by the heels. Another brawl broke out late in the match, and the gaijin team gained the momentum, looking ready to put the match away. Sensing this, Kaijin blasted Monroe in the face with his trademark blue mist. Uncle Dai saw it and instantly disqualified the Trinity X champions. With Monroe down at ringside and temporarily blinded, Sunday and Walker were overwhelmed by their three opponents in a post-match beatdown. Sunday was hit with Tamura's rolling kouppo kick, and Walker with a spike piledriver from Kujawa and Kaijin, the two touring Americans left lying in the ring. As the Trinity X champs posed for the cameras, Billy Thomas came out and announced that these two teams would meet again at Hakata Star Lane, but this time the belts would be on the line. Match five - Dream Fujin vs Pro Wrestling MEGA: Wataru Yasuda, HERO Ishikawa{x}, Wasai Thrillblade, Takahiro Uei and Hideki Shimoda [21'51" HERO's Welcome] Usagi Yoshida, Griffin James, Norihiko Miura, Apollo Kid III{o} & Kyuki Shonjo - The crowd was in a frenzy as the two teams entered the ring, and things threatened to break down before the opening bell could even sound. The real talking point of this match occured just a couple of minutes into it, when the "Pink Spider" - Independent Super Lightweight champion Usagi Yoshida - looked to seriously injure his right ankle. The injury happened when he landed after a leapfrog over Takahiro Uei, and he landed on the side of his foot instead of on the sole of the foot. Yoshida went down hard, clutching at the ankle, and the referee immediately called a stop to the match. There was a five or six minute delay while Yoshida was loaded onto a stretcher and taken out of the building, presumably to the nearest hospital. The fans were understandably distraught, and while the match resumed, Yoshida's Fujingun teammates were clearly distracted by the loss of their leader. The MEGA team showed no mercy on their Fujingun counterparts, who fought on bravely dispite having one less competitor. The numbers advantage allowed MEGA to control the flow of the match, and there were long periods where a Fujingun wrestler would get isolated and struggle to tag out, before Fujingun would briefly regain the advantage, only for MEGA to use their superior numbers to wrest back control. Shonjo's rookie-with-fighting-spirit bit has become a big part of his matches, and here he was at it again, getting the crowd right in behind him. Apollo Kid lacked any real spark, while Uei and Shimoda showed why they were released by Dream Fujin a few months back - they're just not very good in the ring. HERO and Thrillblade were all about the rudo dickiness, Yasuda kept his in-ring time to a bare minimum, Miura hit a lot of his power-based offence, and James was dangerous whenever he entered the battle, throwin' dem 'bows and using some stiff Yakuza kicks. In the end Apollo Kid III fell victim to Ishikawa's inverted facelock lift into a Michinoku Driver II, the HERO's Welcome. After the match the Fujingun troops were left licking their wounds as Pro Wrestling MEGA celebrated in the ring, and the fans wondered about the fate of their inspirational champion Usagi Yoshida. Overall comments: Pro Wrestling MEGA continues to have the psychological edge over the Fujingun Army with another win, but perhaps the biggest blow to Dream Fujin is an emotional one. Usagi Yoshida's injury appears to be legitimate and serious, putting real doubts on his participation in the critical Best of 5 series against MEGA in five days at Hakata Star Lane. © Dream Fujin, 2006.
