Mie Prefectural Sun Arena Sub Arena Thursday March 30 1100 Fans Match one: Hasselhoff SE [9'07" Sleeperhold] Ultraman Zeta - This was one hot little sprint opener. The crowd was really into it, as both of these wrestlers have popular gimmicks and are known for their crowd-pleasing performances. The actual wrestling was awkward and sloppy at times, exactly what you'd expect from two rookies. The comedy started right away - after the referee patted down Hasselhoff SE, Ultraman Zeta protested and pointed at Hasselhoff's "stuffed" speedo trunks, indicating that he might have a weapon hidden there. Hasselhoff stood spread-eagled, his crotch thrust towards the official, encouraging him to check. The ref was hesitant, clearly not wanting to do it, but he slowly inched his hand towards Hasselhoff's "package", as the fans laughed and cheered. The ref turned his head away and cringed as his hand got closer and closer... but then he pulled it away, running across the ring and shaking his head, before calling for the bell. Ultraman used a new spot that got a huge reaction from the crowd, as he leapt from the top rope onto Hasselhoff at ringside, but as he launched into the air, he pulled his left arm into his chest and thrust his right fist out in front of him, like a superhero taking flight. In the end Hasselhoff trapped Ultraman in a sleeperhold. Ultraman made the ropes and made a brief comeback, but then missed a Quebrada, and found himself back in the sleeperhold in the middle of the ring. The ref checked, and Ultraman was out. Match two: Shoji Tamura [5'32" Axe kick] Ice Dragon - The Prince of Torment made easy work of the young rookie, peppering him with hard, hard kicks and almost picking up the win inside of the first couple of minutes, when he trapped Dragon in a knee submission. But to his credit, Ice Dragon fought hard and made the ropes. It didn't matter though, as Tamura continued to decimate Dragon with his unbelievably-hard kicks, finishing him off with a brutal axe kick that put Dragon down for the 3-count. Match three: Fuego Tigre jr[ILL]{x} & Norihiko Miura [13'20" Huracanrana] British Steel and Maiden Japan{o} - The unorthodox combination of the masked Mexican luchador and the wrestling monk had to work quite hard to beat the Metal Gods. Miura's slow, methodical approach contrasted with the speedy, lucha style of Fuego, and that affected their team's flow. While Miura was content to use hard strikes and suplexes, then take his opponent to the mat and try to wear him down, Fuego was left on the apron looking frustrated and wanting to speed things up. The best exchanges of the match came when Fuego and Steel upped the tempo the match, using a variety of armdrags, dropkicks and other high-flying moves. Steel and his new partner Maiden Japan looked much better in this match than in their team debut last night, combining for a few impressive doubleteam moves, including a cool spot that saw them both playing air guitar on adjacent top turnbuckles, then hitting a double missile dropkick on Miura. Fuego picked up the win when he hit a huracanrana off the top rope onto Maiden, reaching back and hooking both legs for the 1-2-3. Match four: Elvis Sunday[NEXT] [7'19" 540 splash] Shiro Namiguchi - The orange afroed Hawaiian was in a mood for entertaining the fans, and while Namiguchi isn't the most successful wrestler going around, his workrate is good enough that he was able to work a good match with Sunday. Both had their bumping shoes on, taking to the top rope on a number of occasions and utilising the ropes for springboards and slingshot moves. Sunday hit a beautiful dive from the ring, launching from the top rope and landing on Namiguchi's shoulders, taking him down with a huracanrana. Namiguchi also hit a nice tope. The biggest spot of the match was kept until last, when Sunday busted out a phenomenal 540 splash, which was enough to pick up the 3-count. Match five: HERO Ishikawa{x} & Wasai Thrillblade [8'21" HEROHacker Bomb] Apollo Kid III & Kyuki Shonjo{o} - These two teams met on the opening night of the tour, with the former MEGA stars Ishikawa and Thrillblade coasting to victory. The result was no different tonight, but Apollo and Shonjo put up much more of a fight. This match was essentially a sprint, with little in the way of transition or psychology, just four men going all out. It looked like an upset might be on the cards when Apollo and Shonjo hit Thrillblade with a powerbomb-legdrop combo, but "Wild Zero" kicked out. The end came as all four men battled it out in the ring. Ishikawa set up Shonjo for the HERO's Welcome, but Apollo broke it up, then set up HERO for the Apollo Driver. But Thrillblade in turn broke that up, then lariated Apollo from the ring. Ishikawa hit his HEROhacker bomb (torture rack into a powerbomb) on Shonjo for the easy 3-count. Match six - Main Event: Bombay Kaijin, Darkness Kitty!{x} & Super Darkness Panda [21'53" Darkness Bomber] Griffin James, Tate Monroe[HVW] & Ty Walker[NEXT]{o} - There was plenty riding on this match. You had two-thirds of the Trinity X champions on one side, teaming up with the most popular man in Dream Fujin, but of course James and Monroe have been swapping heated words in the media. On the other side you had three men who've all worn Trinity X gold before, so they knew a victory would put them right in line for a title shot. To top it all off, Shoji Tamura was at ringside for his faction-mates. The crowd was really into this match, with the expected loud chants of "GUR-IF-IN" for Griffin James and "GINOUDAIO!" (Great King of Technical Skill) for Monroe, but also the less-expected chants of "KIT-TY!" and "PAN-DA". The match held its trios structure for a good 10 minutes, starting with Monroe and Kaijin engaging in a showcase of their technical skills, then Panda and Walker speeding things up, and finally Kitty! and James pairing up for a hard-hitting exchange. Things broke down at around the 11 minute mark, and never really regained its structure again after that, as wrestlers came and went from the ring, and both teams had chances to end the match when they got 3-on-1 advantages. Kaijin, Kitty! and Panda revelled in these moments, including one when they each hit charging moves into the corner - Kitty! finishing it off when he sprang off the back of Panda, who was on his hands and knees, and hit Walker with a flying knee to the face. The face team almost finished Panda off when James and Walker hit him with a Yakuza kick-legsweep combo, and Monroe then rolled him up with La Majistral Cradle, but Kaijin made the save just in time. The end of the match came as James hit Panda with the Jamestown Massacre, then looked to finish him off with the Fujingun Stinger (spear-like elbowshot). But as he hit the ropes, Tamura tripped him up. James went out after Tamura, the two bitter enemies swapping blows. Monroe came back into the ring and saw James battling Tamura. Clearly not happy about James losing focus on winning the match, Monroe leant over the ropes and yelled for James to return to task. Uncle Dai also went out to break them up. As Monroe turned back towards the laid-out Panda, Kaijin was suddenly there... and he blasted Monroe in the face with his blue mist! Monroe went tumbling from the ring, blinded, and the referee had seen none of it. Walker came back in and started to overpower Kaijin with punches, then levelled him with a leg lariat. He set Kaijin up for a powerbomb, but Kitty! was suddenly back in the ring. Walker dropped Kaijin and ducked Kitty!'s charging lariat, but got a kick to the gut, which Kitty! followed up with the Cat Nap (Final Cut). Kitty! then hit Walker with his crossed arms powerbomb, the Darkness Bomber, and got the 3-count. After the final bell, Monroe, still half-blinded by the blue mist, started to yell at James, even pushing him in the chest. The two stood chest-to-chest, glaring at each other, while Tamura and his faction celebrated in the ring. Kitty! got on the microphone and laid the challenge to the Trinity X champions, for a title match at the next Super Energy Battle TV taping. Kaijin took the microphone and called the champions pathetic, then the four heels started to stomp away at the still-fallen Walker! James and Monroe quickly forgot their bad blood, both Americans turning and charging into the ring. The fans went nuts as they took the fight to the heels, but while they got some good shots in, the numbers were too great. Monroe was taken down by a lariat from Kaijin, while Kitty! hit James with a low blow, then Tamura laid out his future opponent with a stiff roundhouse kick! The heels sent James and Monroe from the ring, and then struck a pose over Walker. James tried to come back in, but was sent back out by a kick to the face from Panda, and the heels went back to posing. Finally Elvis Sunday came charging down to the ring, dressed in street clothes and a steel chair in his hands, and sent the heels scattering. Overall comments: - Tamura's new, stronger faction made its first real statement tonight. Tamura got one over his future opponent, Griffin James, while Kitty!, Kaijin and Panda made it clear that they are hungry to regain Trinity X gold. - The opposition to Tamura's faction appears splintered, as Griffin James and Tate Monroe continue to dislike each other. Fujingun appears in disarray, and while it's not too late for James and Monroe to come to their senses and repair their loose alliance, all indications are that those two men are on a collision course. © Dream Fujin, 2006.
