Dream Fujin Friday June 16 Chitose Sports Center 900 fans The "Dream at Summertime" tour officially kicked off tonight at one of Dream Fujin's favourite and most-visited venues, the Chitose Sports Center in Chitose, just a few miles away from the company's headquarters in Sapporo. To open the show, new commissioner Kazushima Yakamotu came to the ring and spoke on the microphone for around 10 minutes. In a casual, sometimes-rambling address, Yakamotu thanked the fans for continuing to support Dream Fujin, and spoke about his appointment, the future of the company and the high standard of competition in the company right now. Mention of his father, Jinsei, brought a loud round of applause, the fans showing they have not forgotten one of puroresu's most legendary figures. When he was finished, Yakamotu left the ring to his own round of applause, and the show began! -------------------------------------------------- Match One - Tonaga Trial Series #1: Ketsu Tonaga vs Shigeo Hotta[Free] The newest graduate of the Fujin Dojo, 20-year-old Fujioka native Ketsu Tonaga stepped into the Dream Fujin ring for the first time. He received respectful applause from the crowd. His opponent was freelancer Shigeo Hotta, a mainstay of the indy scene over recent years. Tonaga showed enough flashes of potential in this match to indicate that he might make the step up to the main roster, but overall the match was sloppy and disjointed. Tonaga seemed nervous, which is understandable, and also struggled to gel with Hotta's style. Hotta, who has never shown any real desire to improve, has a sleazy look and a style to go along with it - basic and nothing flashy. Hotta picked up the win after nailing Tonaga with a tombstone piledriver. As he was helped to his feet after the match, Tonaga looked disappointed about the result, but still received polite applause from the crowd. Winner: Shigeo Hotta Time Of Match: 8'27" -------------------------------------------------- Match Two HERO Ishikawa & Wasai Thrillblade vs Ultraman Zeta & Kochiro Miyake[RISE] MEGA Gurentai, who have said they will add a third member to their team on this tour, took on the resident super hero, Ultraman Zeta, and the first representative of Tokyo-based organisation RISE to compete in Dream Fujin, Miyake. Miyake has a plain look, with black trunks and boots, and is another rookie. Ishikawa and Thrillblade were in typical dickish rudo form, tormenting the two rookies with underhand tactics and showing them absolutely no respect. HERO in particular was enjoying himself, a big grin on his face as he pulled all kinds of fistdrops out of his bag of tricks, and had a running battle with referee Uncle Dai. Dai came close to disqualifying MEGA Gurentai a couple of times, but in the end Ishikawa and Thrillblade managed to keep out of the referee's bad books long enough to finish off Miyake with a powerbomb-top rope fistdrop combo. Winners: Ishikawa/Thrillblade Time of Match: 9'49" -------------------------------------------------- Match Three Elvis Sunday vs Ice Dragon The newly-rudo Ice Dragon made his first appearance back in Japan since turning his back on the fans while in Mexico. His new attitude was plain for all to see, as he attacked before the bell. The orange afroed Flyin' Hawaiian, who will challenge for the Independent Super Lightweight title later in the tour, had strong fan support. After weathering the storm of Dragon's early attack, Sunday turned the tide by sidestepping a springboard dropkick. He thrilled the fans with a jaw-dropping corkscrew plancha, and got a close two-count after hitting a huracanrana. Sunday continued his high-flying with a handspring DDT, but went to the well once too many times, and Dragon turned a huracanrana into a sitout powerbomb. A sunset flip from Dragon got a close 2-count. The back and forth flow continued with Sunday dodging a lariat and hitting a Quebrada bodyblock for 2, then looking to finish Dragon off with his tornado guillotine facedriver, the Hawaiian Hangover. But Dragon pushed him off, and hit a big lariat for 2. Dragon put Sunday up top and went up with him, but was pushed off back to the mat. Sunday stood up on top and then performed an awesome dragonrana, but somehow Dragon managed to kick out. Sunday signalled for the Hawaiian Hangover, but released Dragon as suddenly Darkness Kitty! came running into the ring. The two hated rivals began to slug it out, leaving Uncle Dai no option but to call for the bell, disqualifying Ice Dragon. Sunday and Kitty! continued to battle, but when Dragon joined in, it was two-on-one against Sunday, and he was soon overpowered. Sunday was bundled from the ring, and Kitty! got on the microphone. He went into a tirade about Elvis getting the shot at Monroe's title, saying that shot should be his. Then he added that later tonight he and his team would become number one contenders to the Trinity X title, and that would give him an opportunity to beat Sunday in the ring at a later date. Ice Dragon then asked for the microphone and went into a speech which was basically a case of him boosting Darkness Kitty!'s ego. Then he asked Kitty! if he could join his "faction", to which Kitty! replied that if Dragon wanted in, he would need to prove himself. Dragon nodded, saying he would prove himself. Winner: Elvis Sunday (DQ) Time Of Match: 11'42" -------------------------------------------------- Match Four Griffin James & Hasselhoff SE vs British Steel & Maiden Japan The real interest in this match was how an unproven combination would go against Dream Fujin's most experienced duo, the Metal Gods. Griffin James has said he's a man without friends, showing a new, more hard-hosed attitude, so how would he fare with a comedy wrestler as his partner? Also, there was the added intrigue of Hasselhoff SE and British Steel being former tagteam partners. This match was mostly comedy whenever Hasselhoff SE (he of the David Hasselhoff mask, curly mop wig and red Baywatch swimming trunks) was in the ring with either of the mullet-wigged Metal Gods, but James was in no mood for frivolity, so whenever he was in the ring, the mood changed considerably. In fact, the former champ grew visibly annoyed by some of the antics. Among the comedic moments were: Hasselhoff SE complaining about British Steel pulling his "hair" and how much it hurt (funny because its obviously a wig), then later grabbing handfuls of Steel and Maiden's wigs and banging their heads together; and the Metal Gods convincing Uncle Dai to join them in a three-way air guitar solo. The fans were happy to see a lot of the expected spots from the wrestlers involved, such as the Metal Gods' air guitar planchas, Hasselhoff SE's slow motion beach run (without music though), and the head-smashing elbowshots and yakuza kicks from James. One spot that backfired was the Metal Gods' infamous Headbanger's Fall, where Maiden held James' legs apart and Steel came off the top rope with a headbanging headbutt drop aimed at his groin. James foiled it by using his leg strength to throw Maiden off him and into the ropes, which crotched Steel on the top rope, where he was an easy target for a massive Yakuza kick that sent him crashing to the floor. The end came when James had British Steel set up for the Fujingun Stinger (spear-like elbowshot), but Steel ducked out of the way, and James went through the ropes and out to the floor. A split second later, Hasselhoff went for a springboard move on Maiden Japan, but flew right into a superkick. The Metal Gods then finished off Hasselhoff SE with the new finisher that they debuted in Mexico, the Body Surf. British Steel went to the top turnbuckle and raised both hands with the metal hand signal. Maiden Japan then walked into the corner and turned to face into the middle of the ring (where Hasselhoff was lying prone). He reached up and placed his hands under the armpits of the now-crouching Steel, before running across the ring with Steel in position like a reverse Splash Mountain/Razor's Edge, but stopping well short of Hasselhoff and throwing his teammate forward... Steel flying down onto Hasselhoff SE with a big splash, getting the 3 count. Winners: Metal Gods Time Of Match: 15'30" -------------------------------------------------- MAIN EVENT *Trinity X contender's match* Yoshino Nanami, Kyuki Shonjo & Party Animal Delta vs Darkness Kitty!, Super Darkness Panda & X Two new combinations fought for the right to challenge the Trinity X champions, Tate Monroe, Elvis Sunday and Tyrone Walker. The "X" partner of Kitty! and Panda was revealed as Norihiko Miura, but it was a very different Miura than we've seen in the past. Gone was the monk outfit, replaced by a new look, with simple short trunks and short hair, and he was introduced as simply MIURA. This surprised everyone, including MIURA's long-time rival, Yoshino Nanami. Nanami, fresh off his impressive tour of Mexico, assumed the leadership role for his team, which was comprised of up-and-comer Kyuki Shonjo and newcomer Party Animal Delta, who was on this occasion wearing a Lion mask and outfit. The opening sequence was like we were back in Mexico, with three duos taking turns to pair off, first Kitty! and Shonjo, then Delta and Panda, then finally Nanami and MIURA. The fans "ooohh"ed for Nanami-MIURA, sensing the hatred that exists between the young pair. There was no love lost at all, both men tearing into the other with punches and kicks. Once the opening sequence was over, and things settled down, Kitty! and Nanami worked a great dodge sequence, evading each other's signature moves, before Kitty! countered a top rope move with a gutbuster, for 2. But Nanami ducked a kick, then dropkicked Kitty! out of the ring, before hitting a big pescado onto him! Nanami was then taken out by a Panda Asai moonsault, before Panda in turn was flattened by a crazy corkscrew plancha from Delta! Not to be outdone, MIURA then hit a slingshot lariat suicida on Delta! This adrenaline-pumping sequence was finished off by Shonjo, who ran and lept off the apron, taking MIURA down with a huracanrana. With everyone down at ringside and recovering, Nanami and Panda crawled back into the ring. Panda hit a big lariat, then went up top for the Pandasault, only to get caught and brought down with a superplex, for 2. Nanami followed up with one of his trademark brutal Shotei palmstrikes, Kitty! making the save! Kitty! then ducked a kick from Nanami and hit the Cat Nap (inverted headlock into elbowdrop across the chest), but Nanami kicked out. Delta came back in, nailing Kitty! with a DDT, then setting him up for a powerbomb. But MIURA broke that up with a lariat, then hit Delta with his praying Southern style piledriver, getting a close count, only Shonjo making the save! Shonjo and MIURA went back and forth, Shonjo getting the upperhand with a cross bodyblock and release German suplex! But he soon found himself in a one-against-three situation, and fell victim to a series of three running strikes in the corner - a lariat from Panda, high knee from MIURA and leg lariat from Kitty! As MIURA held off Nanami, Kitty! and Panda set up Shonjo for a doubleteam move. But Shonjo flipped out of the powerbomb lift, facedriving Panda, then drop toeholding Kitty!, following up with a low dropkick to the face. Kitty! went out to the floor, and Shonjo went out after him, leaving Panda alone in the ring with Party Animal Delta. The two animal-masked wrestlers battled with punches and kicks, before Delta capitalised on a missed flying headbutt, following up with La Majistral Cradle... but there was no referee! Uncle Dai was out of the ring checking on other combatants. Delta hit Panda with a swinging neckbreaker, and made another cover, but still no referee! Party Animal Delta climbed out of the cover, his hands raised to say "what's going on?", and searching for Uncle Dai. What he didn't see was Ice Dragon sliding into the ring behind him, and blindsiding him with a lariat to the back of the head. Delta didn't even see it coming, and he was laid out cold on the mat. Dragon rolled Panda on top and left the ring, Uncle Dai climbing back into the ring a moment later, as many of the fans booed and jeered, showing their disdain for the situation. The easy 3-count followed. After the result was announced, the heels regrouped in the ring and celebrated their success. Kitty! gave Dragon a big slap on the back, then the two shook hands, before MIURA and Panda also welcomed the young rookie into their ranks. Winners: Kitty!/Panda/MIURA Time Of Match: 24'51" -------------------------------------------------- Overall comments: - Although nothing is official, it seems that the first real faction of the Yakamotu era of Dream Fujin has been formed. Darkness Kitty!, Super Darkness Panda, MIURA and Ice Dragon comprise a young group with lots of potential. - Kitty!, Panda and MIURA have now won the right to challenge Monroe, Sunday and Walker for the Trinity X title. But questions surround the champions, after the dissention that Sunday showed at the end of the tour to Mexico. Are Sunday and Monroe still on the same page, or will their difference in thinking affect their team's ability to defend the titles? - No sign of the double champ, Tate Monroe, tonight. However, he's expected to wrestle tomorrow night. - Speaking of tomorrow night's show, which will be held at Esashi Town Center Gymnasium, the line-up will include: the second match of Ketsu Tonaga's trial series, against Steel Cougar; the debut of Tommy "SILKEN" Kamoura; the expected revealing of the third member of MEGA Gurentai; and a main event that sees Griffin James and Ryoji Mifune facing each other with mystery partners. © Dream Fujin, 2006. |
