Dream Fujin Saturday June 24 Sapporo Teisen Hall 2200 fans (overfull) The biggest crowd for a Dream Fujin show in sometime crammed into the Teisen Hall in Sapporo, eager to see the Independent Super-Lightweight championship defended in a three-way match for the very first time. For several hours leading up to the 7pm belltime, many of the Dream Fujin wrestlers took part in a meet and greet session in the venue foyer. The three men who would fight for the Independent title later tonight were absent. The most popular autographs seemed to be Usagi Yoshida, Darkness Kitty! and HERO Ishikawa. One young star who seemed to have quite a long line of fans - mainly women and children - at his table was Party Animal Delta. At just after 7pm, Commissioner Kazushima Yakamotu welcomed the fans into the arena and spoke about the night's main event, which drew excited applause. He briefly mentioned that as part of the ongoing heightening of competition in Dream Fujin, the next tour would involve a new title _and_ a new tournament! This drew an "ooohhh" from the crowd, then applause! -------------------------------------------------- Match One: Tonaga Trial Series #4: Ketsu Tonaga vs Kyuki Shonjo The trial of young Ketsu Tonaga continued, as he took on a man who knows what it is like to be the greenhorn of the company. A former Fujin Dojo graduate himself, Kyuki Shonjo has spent many months trying to make a place for himself here in Dream Fujin, and has made steady progress into the middle ranks. Even though only a few months of experience separates these two, that difference was obvious. It was ultimately Tonaga's inexperience that cost him this match. The battle was closely fought in the opening minutes, as Tonaga used a variety of suplexes, while Shonjo relied more on kicks and speed. After hitting a nice head and arm suplex, Tonaga attempted to powerbomb Shonjo, but Shonjo countered with a huracanrana. He then hit a dropkick, but Tonaga no sold it! He levelled Shonjo with an Axe Bomber, but Shonjo kicked out. Tonaga signalled for his discus lariat, but then seemed to change his mind, instead setting Shonjo up for another powerbomb... which Shonjo countered with a sitout facedriver. Shonjo then nailed him with an enzuigiri, before sending a dazed Tonaga to the mat with a German suplex, bridging for the 3-count. Tonaga again showed improvement, and could possibly have won this match if he hadn't got caught up in the moment and tried too hard to impress. Winner: Kyuki Shonjo Time Of Match: 8'11" -------------------------------------------------- Match Two Kamen Kanoji vs Akitoshi Yano[RISE] Special X's resident loverboy faced off with RISE's resident shootfighter, in a real contrast of styles. The fans were firmly behind Kanoji, loving the fact that he came to the ring to "Saturday Night (Is The Loneliest Night Of The Week)" by Frank Sinatra, wearing his black bodysuit, with the top fashioned to look like a tuxedo and the bottom tapered to look as if he's wearing trousers, and the basic black mask with pink hearts over the eyes. Yano wore a more basic outfit - red thigh-length trunks and shoot-style boots and gloves. Yano was all business... Kanoji, not really. In fact, the masked loverboy's antics served two purposes - entertaining the fans and frustrating Yano. For instance, when Uncle Dai called for a clean break, Kanoji would turn and blow kisses to the fans. Then, after baseball sliding through Yano's legs and right out of the ring, Kanoji hopped the railing and began to serenade a pretty female fan. Yano was highly frustrated by now, and he took his frustrations out on Kanoji after the masked man missed a Quebrada. Yano took the mount and pounded on Kanoji with stiff punches, then worked on a leg for a while, Kanoji having to go to the ropes to force the break. Kanoji came back with a blatant eye poke, and then clamped on the crotchclaw, the move made famous by his Special X teammate, Usagi Yoshida! Uncle Dai warned Kanoji, who played innocent while sneakily kicking Yano in the face a few times. He followed up with a legdrop after doing a little dance. Yano battled back with a series of open-hand slaps, then scooped Kanoji up into a fireman's carry. But Kanoji dropped down behind Yano, who turned around, right into a superkick! Kanoji went to the top, blowing more kisses to the crowd, before hitting a corkscrew moonsault, which he calls the Tropical Getaway, hooking the leg for the 3-count. Winners: Kamen Kanoji Time of Match: 9'05" -------------------------------------------------- Match Three British Steel & Maiden Japan vs Ultraman Zeta & Party Animal Delta Keeping up the "fun" factor after Kanoji's antics in the previous match, these two teams put on quite the entertaining display. The Metal Gods came out to their usual "Metal Gods" by Judas Priest, headbanging their mullet wigs all over the place. Zeta and Delta came out to the Ultraman theme music, PAD looking bizarre in a cow-themed mask and outfit, and Zeta looking like... well, Ultraman. Forget about psychology and mat wrestling, this was all about speed and the highspots. The Metal Gods used all of their trademark spots, like the Headbanger's Fall and the air guitar doubleteam moves. Zeta and PAD showed some rustiness as a team, but had some individual moments. PAD hit a brutal doublestomp on Maiden Japan, and a nice cannonball senton on British Steel. In the end, the Metal Gods showed they are a better team, combining to finish off Ultraman Zeta with a powerbomb/air guitar shooting star press doubleteam move. Winners: Metal Gods Time Of Match: 11'40" -------------------------------------------------- Match Four Tommy "SILKEN" Kamoura vs Super Darkness Panda Newcomer Kamoura, who has wrestled exclusively over the past few years, brought his unusual style into battle against the 666 faction's resident bear. Whereas Panda relied mostly on kicking and punching, with the odd high-flying move thrown in (like a nice tope), Kamoura showed off the moves he picked up in Europe, using European uppercuts as his main strike and throwing in plenty of rolling necksnaps. Since his change to the darkside, Panda has kind of been lost in the shuffle. He's no longer doing the comedy bit, and doesn't have the skills to foot it purely on wrestling skills alone. Kamoura is still adjusting to the Dream Fujin style, so this match was average at best, but it will give Kamoura a lot of confidence, as he picked up the win with his stepover toehold Dragon Sleeper, the Kamoura Stretch. Winner: Tommy Kamoura Time Of Match: 8'12" -------------------------------------------------- Match Five Yoshino Nanami, Ty Walker & Hasselhoff SE vs HERO Ishikawa, Wasai Thrillblade & MIURA This match had some unusual combinations, the most unusual being a 666 member (MIURA) teaming with two MEGA Gurentai guys. There were also questions about the other team, because Tyrone Walker has seemingly chosen Tate Monroe as his main ally, while Hasselhoff SE is a Fujingun member and Nanami hasn't thrown his lot in with any group as of yet. The mixing of factions led to some friction, particularly between MIURA and this teammates, with both MIURA and Ishikawa wanting to control things. Things threatened to come to blows during the match, but somehow the makeshift 666-MEGA team survived. The wrestling itself wasn't exactly top notch, as all six wrestlers seemed to be phoning it in for the night, Walker and MIURA in particular. The MEGA boys did their dick rudo bit, and Hasselhoff SE tried to entertain as much as he could, but in the end he fell victim to Ishikawa's HERO's Welcome. After the match Nanami and Walker were seen to be talking animatedly. Walker was pointing to the recovering Hasselhoff while talking, as if trying to convince Nanami of something. After a couple of minutes of discussion they left together. Winners: Ishikawa/Thrillblade/MIURA Time Of Match: 13'11" -------------------------------------------------- Match Six Usagi Yoshida & Ryoji Mifune vs Darkness Kitty! & Ice Dragon The first ever meeting between the Special X and 666 factions had plenty of heat. In particular there was a heated rivalry between Yoshida and Kitty!, two of the company's premier athletes. Mifune and Dragon played their support roles well, Mifune showing that he's definitely a star on the rise, and Dragon having a few shining moments amongst his nervous greenness. The last few minutes had false finishes galore, before Yoshida picked up the win over Dragon with a tombstone piledriver, which he now calls the Psyborg Driver. Kitty! showed frustration, probably because Panda lost earlier, and this result put 666 at 0-2 for the night, so there was plenty of pushing and shoving after the match. This drew out Kamen Kanoji, then Panda and MIURA, the two factions breaking down into a brawl! It didn't last long though, the 4-on-3 advantage allowing 666 to clear the ring. Special X stayed at ringside, trading abuse with 666, before leaving. Winners: Yoshida/Mifune Time Of Match: 13'11" -------------------------------------------------- MAIN EVENT - Independent Super-Lightweight championship: Tate Monroe © vs Elvis Sunday vs Griffin James The historic moment had finally arrived. Not only the first all-gaijin title match for Dream Fujin in Japan, but the first three-way title match in the company's history. Three-way matches are as rare as hen's teeth in Japan, so this was a big moment. Sunday came out first, to "Sunday Shining" by Finlay Quaye, and dressed in his usual Hawaiian shirt, his orange afro in full cry. No second for the Flyin' Hawaiian. Next out was James, to "Tenjho Tenge", and with his second Ryoga Miike waving a big "Fujingun Revival" flag to the approval of the fans, who showered the ring with black streamers. Finally out came the champ, with Tyrone Walker as his second, and looking all business. Monroe received nowhere near as much applause as Sunday or James, but a good amount. After the all three wrestlers received flowers from ring girls, and the official announcements and photographs, it was go time! The rules were that all three wrestlers were allowed in the ring at one time, and the first pinfall or submission ended the match. Monroe could lose the title without even being pinned! The opening bell sounded, and right away James and Sunday went after Monroe! They peppered the champ with punches, then hit him with a double dropkick, sending him from the ring. But any thoughts that James and Sunday would put their friendship above the title were quickly put aside as they started to go at it... _hard_. A chop-fest ensued, neither man willing to give an inch, but James got the upperhand with a series of his trademark bone-crunching elbowshots. Sunday came back by ducking a right hand and hitting a spin kick, then ducked out onto the apron, looking to springboard back in, but in a flash James was up and charging over... AND NAILING HIM WITH A JUMPING YAKUZA AS SUNDAY BEGAN TO SPRINGBOARD IN! The impact was brutal, sending the popular high-flyer crashing hard onto the floor. The fans "ooohhh"ed as James waited for Sunday to get up, looking ready to hit a tope. He turned and ran the far ropes to get momentum, but suddenly Monroe was sliding in, and driving his shoulder into James' right knee! James went down hard, clutching at the same knee that cost him the title to Monroe last tour! Monroe went for a leglock, but was quickly rolled up by James for 2. Both wrestlers returned to their feet, but Monroe took James back down with an amateur takedown, applying a headlock. For the next few minutes, Monroe showed off his mat wrestling skills, keeping James down on the canvas and applying a variety of holds. Nothing was decided though, so they returned to their feet, Monroe going for a German suplex. James elbowed his way out, breaking the hold, and out of nowhere hit an Ego Crusher (stunner). He covered, but the pin was broken up as Sunday came back in with a springboard legdrop, landing across the back of James' head! Sunday followed up with a leg lariat on James, before taking the fight to Monroe. A series of counter-holds ended with Sunday nailing an inverted DDT, and this time it was James making the save. James went up top, but Monroe knocked his legs out from under him, crotching the former champ. Sunday was back on his feet, catching Monroe with a boot to the gut, then signalling for the Hawaiian Hangover, his tornado bulldog into a guillotine facedriver. He grabbed Monroe by the head and ran up the turnbuckles, but Monroe pushed him off... Sunday landing with his legs around the head of James and bringing him off the top with a huracanrana! The pinfall was quickly broken up by Monroe. Monroe sent Sunday from the ring and went to work on James' right leg. James fought back with elbowshots, getting to his feet, but missing an elbow and getting taken down with a northern lights suplex. Monroe bridged... but Sunday slingshotted himself back in, landing on the bridging Monroe with a senton! After peppering Monroe with a series of kicks, Sunday went up top, then leapt off with a dragonrana, but was planted into the mat with a powerbomb. Monroe made the cover, and James ran over for the save, leaping into the air for an elbowdrop... but Monroe moved! James landed on Sunday, but was quickly yanked to his feet and then flung across the ring by a release German suplex! Showing great fighting spirit, James rolled to his feet, swinging an elbow at Monroe, who ducked it, and hit a swinging neckbreaker. Using the move that won him the title in Mexico, Monroe applied an inverted figure four leglock, the fans reacting with panic! James fought the hold, clawing towards the ropes... and making it! Monroe set up James for a powerbomb, but Sunday ran across the ring and leapt over the both of them, taking Monroe to the mat with a sunset flip powerbomb, Monroe kicking out at 2!. Sunday was the first to his feet, but was decked by a running elbowshot from James. Monroe slowly rose, and got the same treatment, the fans chanting "GU-RI-FIN! GU-RI-FIN!". Monroe struggled up again, and this time was blasted by a Yakuza kick, sending him crashing through the ropes to the floor. That was when James busted out one of the most awesome spots ever, running and launching himself through the ropes and drilling Monroe with a FUJINGUN STINGER TOPE! Awesome! James slowly rose at ringside, getting loud applause from the crowd. He dragged the hurting champion up as well, whipping him into the railing. As he set up Monroe for a suplex on the floor, Sunday slingshotted himself out with a pescado. But James pushed Monroe away, evading Sunday, who landed on his feet between them. James kicked Sunday in the gut, doubling him over, then ran and leapt, using Sunday as a vaulting horse... but Monroe moved out of the way, sending him into the ringpost! James was hurt and dazed, and a sitting target for Monroe, who sent him down onto the floor with a Northern lights suplex. Monroe grabbed James and threw him over the railing into the crowd, before climbing in after him. Meanwhile, Sunday had rolled back into the ring to recover, but he did more than that. Seeing James and Monroe fighting in the crowd, he climbed to the top turnbuckle, the fans "ooohhhh"ing in disbelief, then roaring and applauding as he launched himself into the air, clearing the ring railing and landing on Monroe and James, knocking all three men to the floor in the crowd! Uncle Dai started a count, Sunday breaking it at 16 when he rolled James back into the ring. He hit a top rope legdrop, Monroe's title in jeopardy without his even being in the ring! But James kicked out at 2. Sunday followed with a springboard elbowdrop for 2, then a DDT for 2 1/2! Sunday went for another springboard move, but James countered with another Ego Crusher, and locked on the Legendary Crossface! Monroe was still recovering at ringside, but luckily for him, Sunday showed great fighting spirit, making the ropes! The Flyin' Hawaiian struggled to his feet, but had his head just about removed by a brutal Yakuza kick! James signalled for the Fujingun Stinger, but that was when Monroe finally made it back into the ring. He ducked an elbow, drilling James with a belly to belly throw, transitioning right into a kneebar! James struggled, yelling in pain, before Sunday made the save. Sunday and Monroe stood toe-to-toe, trading hard chops. James slowly rose, then charged at them. They ducked a double lariat, James rebounding and launching into the air... DOUBLE FUJINGUN STINGER!! JAMES BLASTED BOTH OF THEM! James paused for a moment, wondering who to cover, but then hooked Monroe's leg, the champ only barely kicking out! James was ready to finish it, dragging Monroe up and signalling for the Jamestown Massacre. He hooked on the front chancery, grabbing a leg... but Sunday suddenly came flying in with a dropkick that blasted James square in the back! Dropping Monroe to the mat, James was staggered, and couldn't evade a spinning leg lariat from Sunday. The Flyin' Hawaiian then hit James with the Hawaiian Hangover, drilling Monroe with an enzuigiri in mid-move! He covered James... 2 3/4! With both of his opponents down and out, Sunday quickly made his way to the top, signalling for the Sunday Shining shooting star legdrop! Monroe staggered to his feet and then fell against the ropes, knocking Sunday down and crotching him on the top turnbuckle! Monroe dragged Sunday down into the corner, as James slowly got to his feet on the other side of the ring. Seeing the back of Monroe, James cleared the cobwebs and then charged... FUJINGUN STINGER! But Monroe moved out of the way at the last minute, leaving Sunday to bear the full brunt of the flying elbow, sandwiched against the turnbuckles! James rebounded out of the corner, and climbed to his feet, only to be clotheslined over the top rope by Monroe, who quickly hooked Sunday in a front chancery, grabbing a leg and then snapping him to the mat with his swinging fisherman buster, the Textbook Finish! Monroe hooked the leg... 1-2-3! The clean finish received a good round of applause, as Monroe was presented with his belt by Kazushima Yakamotu. After checking on Sunday, James glared across the ring at his arch-rival - Monroe and Walker on one side of the ring and James, Miike and a recovering Sunday on the other. Winner: Tate Monroe [1st Defence] Time Of Match: 15'38" -------------------------------------------------- Overall comments: - Tate Monroe has survived his first title defence, and in a match that could have easily seen him unseated, maybe without even being in the ring at the time of the pinfall or submission. The three-way match had some novelty value, but let's hope it's not repeated for a long time. Title matches need to be one-on-one challenges, a pure test of two wrestlers (or teams). - Now that the Independent title is safe in the hands of Monroe for this tour, attention moves to the Trinity X titles, which go on the line in two nights' time in a one-night tournament. The line-up for the first round matches has been released, and is as follows: 1. Special X (Usagi Yoshida, Ryoji Mifune & Kamen Kanoji) vs RISE (Jin Ketsumo, Tsuyoshi Sai & Ryo Hosaka) 2. Hasselhoff SE, Ultraman Zeta & Party Animal Delta vs MEGA Gurentai (HERO Ishikawa, Wasai Thrillblade & Apollo Kid III) 3. Fujingun (Griffin James, Ryoga Miike & Kyuki Shonjo) vs Steel Cougar, British Steel & Maiden Japan 4. 666 (Darkness Kitty!, MIURA & Ice Dragon) vs Elvis Sunday, Tommy "SILKEN" Kamoura & Kohei Aoki[Free] © Dream Fujin, 2006. |
