Dream Fujin Monday June 26 Chitose Sports Center 1900 fans (sellout) The "Dream at Summertime" tour moved on to one of Dream Fujin's regular venues, the Chitose Sports Center, for a one-night tournament to crown the new Trinity X champions. The titles were vacant because of the disintegration of the long-time championship team - Tate Monroe, Elvis Sunday and Tyrone Walker. Commissioner Kazushima Yakamotu came to the ring at around 6.30pm, accompanied by several dojo trainees, who were carrying the three Trinity X title belts and a huge, five foot-tall trophy. Yakamotu then introduced the eight teams competing in tonight's tournament, each team making its way to the ring and standing there until all were in front of the fans. -------------------------------------------------- Match One - Trinity X title tournament round one: Usagi Yoshida, Ryoji Mifune & Kamen Kanoji vs Jin Ketsumo[RISE], Tsuyoshi Sai[RISE] & Ryo Hosaka[RISE] Special X set the tone for this tournament by showing great teamwork against the team representing the RISE promotion. The RISE guys, by comparison, showed no teamwork at all, and were clearly just three guys lumped together as a team. Of the visiting team, Ketsumo impressed the most. Yoshida showed that he's almost back to his best by leading the way for his team, while Mifune seemed a little confused at times, as if he was trying to decide what style to wrestle - hardcore or shoot style. The masked loverboy Kanoji provided brief moments of comedy, and the fans really seem to be taking to him. Special X dominated the opening minutes and really didn't look back. Every time the RISE team battled back and looked to swing the momentum their way, Yoshida and company would snuff out their comeback just as quickly. Mifune picked up the win by trapping Hosaka in a jumping triangle hold, forcing the tapout. Winner: Special X Time Of Match: 9'12" -------------------------------------------------- Match Two - Trinity X title tournament round one: Hasselhoff SE, Ultraman Zeta & Party Animal Delta vs HERO Ishikawa, Wasai Thrillblade & Apollo Kid III MEGA Gurentai were the favourites going into this match against a trio of young Fujingun members. Ishikawa and company came to the ring in their trademark leather jackets and dark sunglasses. PAD had a lion mask and outfit tonight. HERO Ishikawa was looking to add more gold to the long list of titles he's held in his career. But while HERO was all business and looking determined, his teammates unfortunately did not give him the support he needed. Thrillblade in particular was sluggish and just did not wrestle very well. By contrast, the three young Fujingun soldiers wrestled out of their skin, all three putting in by far their best performances in a Dream Fujin ring. Zeta and Delta in particular look to be benefitting from time in the ring together. There were plenty of entertaining moments in the match, including: Hasselhoff SE doing his "surfing" spot where he stood on Apollo Kid's back as he crawled across the ring; Zeta doing a "superhero" tope (with one arm clutched to his chest and a fist thrust out in front of him) onto all three of his opponents; and Ishikawa and Apollo Kid doing a rudo flurry on Hasselhoff SE (eye pokes, back rakes, toe stomps and low blows all in quick succession). Both teams had chances to win in the closing minutes, HERO getting a very close count after hitting Zeta with a top rope fistdrop, and Hasselhoff SE hitting Apollo Kid with a running sitout powerbomb, but Thrillblade making the save. Party Animal Delta nailed Thrillblade with his Delta Driver '06 (a pumphandle Michinoku Driver II) and picked up the 3-count and upset victory. HERO was furious with the result, attacking PAD after the final bell. Apollo Kid joined in, MEGA Gurentai sending Hasselhoff SE and Ultraman Zeta from the ring, before HERO nailed Delta with a HEROHacker bomb (torture rack into a sitout powerbomb). Helping Thrillblade from the ring, HERO and Apollo left Party Animal Delta laying in the middle of the ring. Winners: Hasselhoff/Zeta/Delta Time of Match: 12'42 -------------------------------------------------- Match Three - Trinity X title tournament round one: Griffin James, Ryoga Miike & Kyuki Shonjo vs Steel Cougar, British Steel & Maiden Japan On paper this looked like a mismatch, but questions surrounded the performances of Griffin James' Fujingun teammates. Shonjo has made vast improvements over the past few months, but is still a rookie, and Miike has been out of the ring for a long time and is still making the transition from masked comedy wrestler (Crazy Bastard Cop) to serious unmasked wrestler. The Fujingun wrestlers showed a united front, coming to the ring together, Miike waving the Fujingun banner. Apart from a short flurry of doubleteam offence from the Metal Gods - air guitar missile dropkicks and the Headbanger's Fall flying headbutt to the groin - this match was all Fujingun. Miike dispelled any worries about his fitness and showed that he can bring the serious wrestling, while Shonjo did nothing flashy, but did his bit for the team. James was the undoubted star, destroying rookie Steel Cougar with elbows and a Yakuza kick, finishing him off with the Fujingun Stinger (spear-like flying forearm to the chest). Winners: Fujingun Time Of Match: 8'33" -------------------------------------------------- Match Four - Trinity X title tournament round one: Darkness Kitty!, MIURA & Ice Dragon vs Elvis Sunday, Tommy "SILKEN" Kamoura & Kohei Aoki[Free] The final match of the first round pitted the "evil" threesome from 666 against a makeshift team led by the popular Flyin' Hawaiian, Elvis Sunday. The best exchanges of the match were between long-time rivals Kitty! and Sunday, with the fans showing a lot of support for both men. The chasm of skills and style between these two team leaders and their teammates was huge. Ice Dragon and Tommy Kamoura put in big efforts, but both men have a lot of learning still to do. MIURA continued his latest trend of stinking up the ring, while Aoki did nothing of real note. Sunday came close to getting the upset victory, hitting MIURA with his Hawaiian Hangover (tornado bulldog into a guillotine facedriver), but Kitty! made the save. He sent Sunday from the ring with a superkick, but was caught by a lariat from Aoki. Aoki looked to finish Kitty! with a powerbomb, but Kitty! flipped through and landed on his feet. A boot to the gut later, and Kitty! was spiking Aoki with his crossed-arms powerbomb, the Darkness Bomber, for the 3-count. Winners: 666 Time Of Match: 10'21" -------------------------------------------------- Match Five - Trinity X title tournament semifinal: Usagi Yoshida, Ryoji Mifune & Kamen Kanoji vs Hasselhoff SE, Ultraman Zeta & Party Animal Delta Amazingly, none of the six men in this match have ever held the Trinity X title before. Of course, Yoshida was a popular Independent Super-Lightweight champion, but he has never held the trios gold. The crowd was hot for this match, supporting Special X and believing the underdogs could pull off another upset win. The early minutes were mostly matwork, before the match transitioned into a workrate spotfest, all six wrestlers bumping their asses off. Kanoji and Hasselhoff SE threw in some comedy for good measure, fighting over a girl at ringside - Kanoji serenading her and Hasselhoff thrusting his "stuffed" swimming trunks in her face. The closing minutes saw Special X hit Ultraman Zeta with a triple corner attack (Mifune jumping knee, Kanoji running butt bump and Yoshida running lariat). Yoshida then nailed him with a DDT for 2. Yoshida then hit Zeta with a brainbuster, PAD making the save! PAD was sent from the ring, and Yoshida lept onto him with a tope! Hasselhoff came in with a springboard lariat on Mifune, then went for a powerbomb, only to be nailed in the back by Kanoji. Kanoji and Mifune floored Hasselhoff with a spike powerbomb, Mifune covering but Zeta making the save! Mifune sent Zeta from the ring with a front kick, as Kanoji set up Hasselhoff SE, before hitting him with a thunder fire powerbomb, which he calls the Jacuzzi Bomb, covering for the 3-count. Special X celebrated, to loud applause from the crowd. The fans then showed their appreciation to the Fujingun junior members, who did much better in this tournament than most people would have predicted. Winners: Special X Time Of Match: 15'39" -------------------------------------------------- Match Six - Trinity X title tournament semifinal: Griffin James, Ryoga Miike & Kyuki Shonjo vs Darkness Kitty!, MIURA & Ice Dragon Oh boy, the crowd was hot, hot, hot for this match up! 666 versus Fujingun! Evil versus Good! Team 666 came out first, all dressed in black and waving a big black banner with 666 written on it in blood red. Then the fans went crazy for the Fujingun entrance, Miike again waving the big Fujingun banner and the three wrestlers dressed in identical black Fujingun t-shirts. In the tradition of trios matches, the teams paired off for the opening minutes, the best exchange being between Miike and Kitty!. Dragon and Shonjo had an energetic exchange, before James pummelled the living crap out of MIURA. Once the pairings were done, the match moved into a long sequence that borrowed heavily from lucha libre, with all sorts of double and triple team moves. The fans were really into it, sensing that victory would probably go to the team that could hit a big team move on one of its opposition wrestlers and then keep his partners at bay. Some of the awesome team moves were: Kitty! trapping Shonjo in a camel clutch and MIURA and Dragon hitting dropkicks to the face from either side; MIURA and Dragon trapping Miike in a cross-arm submission while Kitty! posed, standing on Miike's back; Fujingun putting MIURA in the tree of woe so that they could all hit him with sliding dropkicks, James gaining huge height before landing his; and James and Miike hitting a legsweep/Yakuza kick combo on Dragon. The end came when Kitty! and Dragon caught Shonjo two-on-one, Kitty! going to the top rope as Dragon put Shonjo on his shoulders. Kitty! then applied an inverted headlock and lept off the top, driving Shonjo into the mat with an elbow across the chest. Double team Cat Nap! It got the 3-count, sending 666 into the tournament final. After the match, James and Kitty! exchanged heated words, but there was no brawl, as James led his defeated team from the ring, and 666 posed for the cameras. Winners: 666 Time Of Match: 16'44" -------------------------------------------------- Match Seven: Tate Monroe & Tyrone Walker vs Shigeo Hotta[Free] & Shiro Namiguchi[Free] To give the tournament finalists time to recover before the final, this non-tournament match was held. Independent champion Tate Monroe and his long-time allie Ty Walker stepped in to take on a team of freelancers - indy sleaze king Hotta and former Dream Fujin wrestler Namiguchi (who fought under the Uchu Koujin Red mask). Hotta and Namiguchi tried their hearts out, showing good determination, but were ultimately no match for two-thirds of the former Trinity X champions. Monroe and Walker have teamed together regularly for many months, and it showed. They got the advantage early on and it was only a matter of when they would put Hotta and Namiguchi away. It was Monroe picking up the win by making Hotta tap out to a kneebar. Winners: Monroe/Walker Time Of Match: 8'09" -------------------------------------------------- MAIN EVENT - - Trinity X title tournament final: Usagi Yoshida, Ryoji Mifune & Kamen Kanoji vs Darkness Kitty!, MIURA & Ice Dragon It's final time! The entrances for both teams were grand, the fans in good voice as they anticipated a great, great match. Team 666 was accompanied to the ring by Super Darkness Panda. Team 666 went on the attack during Special X's entrance, brutally assaulting their rival faction. All six wrestlers went outside the ring, as the match started off as an all-in brawl. Eventually it returned to the ring, where Kitty! hit Yoshida with a slingshot open hand slap (cat claw!). They rolled out, Mifune and MIURA coming in to battle. Mifune peppered MIURA with kicks, MIURA no selling with FIGHTING SPIRIT~! but that didn't last long, because Mifune kicked him square in the face. Mifune put more hurting on MIURA, before Kanoji came in, and Kitty! returned. Kitty! and Kanoji traded chops, before Kanoji hit a flying cross bodyblock. Kitty! missed a running high knee, flipping over the top rope and landing on the apron. Kanoji with an elbowstrike, driving Kitty! off the apron to the floor, then he followed up with a pescado! The fans applauded, Kanoji rolling to his feet and dancing for the fans. Ice Dragon and Yoshida came in to fight, Yoshida showing off his AWESOME multiple-revolution corbata, pulling his arms away from the body as he went around! Dragon went out to the floor, Yoshida following him out with a tope con hilo! MIURA came in and looked to dive out onto Yoshida, but handspringed off the ropes, before striking a pose. Mifune re-entered, MIURA flipping the bird at him! He soon regretted it, as Mifune kicked the hand and then destroyed MIURA with kicks! Kitty! and Kanoji soon returned, Kitty! raking the eyes and then hitting a nasty lungblower, before going to town with kneedrops galore! MIURA entered and dropped Kanoji with a drop toehold, allowing Kitty! and Ice Dragon to nail sliding dropkicks to each side of the Italian loverboy's head. Yoshida re-entered, taking up the fight for his team, but he quickly became the face in peril, as Team 666 took him to town. MIURA and Ice Dragon hit the former Pink Spider with a sitout powerbomb-legdrop combo. The evil team then sent Yoshida into the neutral corner and then took turns on him - Kitty! with a jumping knee, MIURA with a running lariat and Ice Dragon with a running dropkick. They sent him into the opposite corner for more of the same, but Yoshida moved out of the way of Ice Dragon's attack and lariated MIURA. Kitty! was put up top, and Kanoji catapulted Yoshida up there, Usagi bringing Kitty! down with a huracanrana! Kanoji took over on Kitty!, hitting him with a dropkick, then a dancing legdrop. MIURA came in, but Kanoji greeted him with a superkick! Kanoji was on fire, elbowing MIURA from the ring, then leaping onto him with a tope suicida! Mifune and Ice Dragon entered, Mifune sending Dragon out with a spin kick, then going for a dive, but he was tripped up by Kitty! Kitty! came in and nailed Mifune with a fisherman buster for 2, then began taunting him... as Yoshida came flying in with a springboard dropkick. Kitty! reversed a corner whip, but Yoshida didn't hit the turnbuckles, instead running up them and then launching into the air, landing on MIURA with a JAW-DROPPING SOMERSAULT PLANCHA! In the ring, Kitty! tried to powerbomb Kanoji, but Mifune broke it up with a dropkick. Ice Dragon rushed in and nailed Mifune with a leg lariat, and to keep things at a breakneck pace, Kanoji in turn caught Dragon with a hooking clothesline. In a flash Kanoji was up top, then soaring into the air with a corkscrew moonsault... Tropical Getaway! He hooked the leg for a 2 3/4 count! Kanoji went for the kill, but out of nowhere Dragon nailed him with an enzuigiri. He then spiked Kanoji with an inverted DDT for 2, Yoshida saving. Kitty! rushed in, but Yoshida nailed him with a snap suplex. Yoshida ran the ropes, but was suddenly tripped by Super Darkness Panda, bringing boos and jeers from the crowd. Kitty! kicked Yoshida from the ring, and then caught Mifune with his Frogsplash pumping style crossbody press (cat pounce!) for 2. Kitty! set Mifune up for the Oirnas Lancer (twisting guillotine facedriver), but Mifune thrust upwards, sending Kitty! into a backflip, after which Mifune nailed him with an axe kick! Mifune signalled for the Mifune Special, hooking on a rear waistlock, but Kitty! countered with a mule kick low blow! This time the Oirnas Lancer hit! Kitty! set him up for the Darkness Bomber, but Kanoji came in to break it up. Kanoji nailed Kitty! with a neckbreaker drop, Mifune following up with an elbowdrop for 2. MIURA came back in and hit Mifune with a series of kicks, then set up for a chokeslam, but Mifune countered by taking him down into a jujigatame! The fans roared, sensing the end, but MIURA made the ropes. MIURA came back with a flurry of elbows, then hit a powerbomb for 2. Yoshida springboarded in, but MIURA dropkicked him out of the air! Two lariats from MIURA kept Yoshida down, and the cover got 2 1/2! MIURA went for a third lariat, but Yoshida ducked it, scooping him up and hitting the Psyborg Driver, his tombstone piledriver! Yoshida went up top, but again Super Darkness Panda interfered, throwing a chair at him, which knocked Yoshida down onto the top turnbuckle in a sitting position. Kitty! came charging across the ring, springboarding off of Ice Dragon's back and launching up to the top, before bringing him down with a top rope huracanrana, for 2 3/4! Kitty! and MIURA laid into Yoshida with kicks and strikes, before spiking him with a doubleteam powerbomb, Mifune and Kanoji both diving in to make the desperation save! Team 666 regrouped, throwing Mifune and Kanoji from the ring, Kitty! following them out with a NO TOUCH TOPE! Ice Dragon planted Yoshida with a flapjack, but missed the Quebrada, both men staying down. Kanoji came back in as Yoshida rose, dragging up Dragon and spiking him with a brainbuster! Kanoji then hit Dragon with the Jacuzzi Bomb (thunder fire powerbomb), covering 2 3/4! As Yoshida dragged Dragon up off the mat, Kanoji lept out onto Kitty! with a pescado! Yoshida then spiked Dragon with the Rabbit in the Moon (3/4 facelock bulldog from a over-the-shoulder backbreaker lift), but did not cover. He pulled Dragon up, then hit him with the Psyborg Driver, covering for the 1-2-3! The fans cheered like crazy, Kanoji and Mifune joining Yoshida in the ring to celebrate. The belts were handed over, and Special X struck a pose with the big trophy, flash bulbs going off like crazy at ringside. Winners: Special X [New champions] Time Of Match: 18'20" -------------------------------------------------- Overall comments: - This night belonged to Special X, as they became just the fourth team to hold the Trinity X gold. Usagi Yoshida is a champion again, but don't be fooled into thinking that this latest title win was all down to Yoshida - his teammates are developing into outstanding wrestlers, and this was definitely a team effort. - Darkness Kitty! must be wondering what he has to do to win the Trinity X belts back. He was one of the original champions, but since losing the championship back in January, Kitty! has been unable to win it back. On this tour alone he has come incredibly close on two occasions, but ultimately seen other men walk out with the belts. - With three big matches in the space of one night, the two finalist teams deserve major kudos. Both teams wrestled in semifinals that went longer than 15 minutes, so to then come out and wrestle an 18-minutes-plus final, and a great match at that, was an awesome effort. - Special X are the champions, but they're going to have a hard time hanging onto the belts. The depth of teams in contention is probably higher right now than it has ever been. - Just one more show remains on this tour, Wednesday night at Yubari Bunka Sports Center. On that show, Ketsu Tonaga faces Ultraman Zeta in the final match of his trial series, and Fujingun and 666 face off in an eight-man tag match main event! © Dream Fujin, 2006. |
