Dream Fujin Wednesday June 28 Yubari Bunka Sports Center 1100 fans The Dream at Summertime tour came to a close in front of a big crowd at the Yubari Bunka Sports Center. -------------------------------------------------- Match One: Steel Cougar, Hasselhoff SE & Kohei Aoki[Free] vs Kochiro Miyake[RISE], Akitoshi Yano[RISE] & Jin Ketsumo[RISE] Two junior members of Fujingun teamed with freelancer Aoki to take on a team from the Tokyo-based RISE promotion, and together they provided a high energy opener. All six wrestlers brought their workrate boots, although the rookies Miyake, Aoki and Cougar all showed signs of inexperience and greenness. Hasselhoff SE was the crowd favourite, doing all of his famous spots, like the slow motion beach run and "surfing" on the back of Yano. Hasselhoff SE picked up the win by making Miyake tap out to a crabhold. Winner: Cougar/Hasselhoff/Aoki Time Of Match: 9'02" -------------------------------------------------- Match Two - Tonaga Trial Series #5: Ketsu Tonaga vs Ultraman Zeta: Fujin Dojo graduate Tonaga had lost all four of his trial series matches to this point, but had shown plenty of potential. His opponent in the trial series finale was Ultraman Zeta, the masked superhero rookie who has been improving with each match he has. Both wrestlers received good crowd support. Zeta controlled the opening minutes with armdrags and submission holds, but Tonaga fought his way back, hitting a head and arm suplex, then getting 2 1/2 with a vicious axe bomber. He tried to finish it with his Discus Lariat, but Zeta ducked it and hit a tornado DDT, for 2 3/4! He went up top, but missed the 450 splash! Tonaga followed up with the Discus Lariat, then spiked Zeta on his head with a fold-up powerbomb, getting the 3-count and his first victory in Dream Fujin. As the fans applauded, commissioner Kazushima Yakamotu came to the ring, an envelope in his hands. He got on the microphone and said Tonaga had shown the kind of fighting spirit and work ethic that were needed to be a full-time Dream Fujin wrestler. He then handed the envelope to Tonaga, saying it was his Dream Fujin contract! The fans applauded some more, as Tonaga bowed with respect, then beamed with pride! Out came Steel Cougar and Hasselhoff SE to shake hands with Tonaga, a hurting Ultraman Zeta joining in as well. But just as this feel-good moment was unfolding, suddenly ominous music started coming from the PA, and the lights flickered, smoke coming from the entranceway! The fans "ooohh"ed, all attention turning to the top of the aisleway. A few moments later, out walked four men, all dressed in identical outfits, but in different colours. Their masks looked like a cross between those of Power Rangers and alien monsters, with big eyes. They walked to ringside, where the one in the red outfit got on the microphone, introducing them as the Jigoku Monsters, from the Gates of Hell! Jigoku Monster Red continued, saying he and his fellow monsters were here to take over Dream Fujin, and they would begin by sacrificing the young rookies in the ring! The Jigoku Monsters stormed the ring, a big brawl breaking out for a couple of minutes, before the Monsters left Tonaga, Zeta, Cougar and Hasselhoff laying in the ring. Winners: Tonaga Time of Match: 5'18" -------------------------------------------------- Match Three: Tommy "SILKEN" Kamoura vs Wasai Thrillblade The veteran Thrillblade faced off against European-trained newcomer Kamoura, and took charge from the opening moments. The punk rudo was in vintage form, arguing with referee Uncle Dai and roughing up the youngster, smirking as if to say "this is a walk in the park". It backfired though, as Kamoura showed FIGHTING SPIRIT~! He battled back, slamming Thrillblade with European uppercuts and getting a 2-count with a Northern lights suplex. Thrillblade stemmed the tide with an eyerake, then a lariat. Kamoura ducked a second lariat, hitting a rolling lariat of his own, then trapping Thrillblade in the Kamoura Stretch (stepover toehold dragon sleeper)! Thrillblade was in trouble, but managed to escape the hold. Out walked an angry-looking HERO Ishikawa, who grabbed Thrillblade by the leg, pulling him from the ring. Ishikawa began to talk angrily to his MEGA Gurentai teammate, then suddenly slapped him in the face! Kamoura broke up the mini-conference with a baseball slide dropkick to Thrillblade, then threw him back into the ring. He went for another rolling lariat, but Thrillblade ducked it, then hit a dropkick, before nailing a kneedrop to the back of the head! Ouch! Looking determined, Thrillblade drilled Kamoura into the mat with a powerbomb, getting 2. He dragged Kamoura up, then piledrove him to oblivion, covering for the 3-count. Thrillblade was still angry after the match, glaring at Ishikawa as the MEGA Gurentai boss continued to tell him off. Winner: Thrillblade Time Of Match: 8'33" -------------------------------------------------- Match Four: HERO Ishikawa & Apollo Kid III vs British Steel & Maiden Japan Thrillblade stayed at ringside as Apollo Kid III came out to join Ishikawa in the ring. Next out were the Metal Gods, their mullet wigs flapping as they jogged to the ring, then broke into double air guitars in time with "Metal Gods" by Judas Priest. Ishikawa and Apollo Kid attacked as soon as they reached the ring, showing they meant business. MEGA Gurentai dominated the early minutes, isolating Maiden Japan and turning him into a mulleted, headbanging job boy. The hot tag came at about the seven minute mark, and the match broke down, all four men getting involved. The Metal Gods hit Apollo Kid with a powerbomb/leg lariat combo for 2, and a couple of minutes later Ishikawa and Apollo Kid hit Steel with a huracanrana/top rope fistdrop combo for 2 1/2! The Metal Gods looked to have the match won when they hit Apollo Kid with their Headbanger's Fall (headbanging falling headbutt to the groin), but Apollo kicked out. They then went for stereo air guitar dropkicks, but Ishikawa knocked Steel down and Apollo moved out of the way of Maiden's dive. Apollo Kid then hit Maiden with a leg lariat, and HERO followed up with a HEROHacker's Bomb (torture rack into a sitout powerbomb) for the 3-count. Winners: MEGA Gurentai Time Of Match: 11'29" -------------------------------------------------- Match Five: Usagi Yoshida, Ryoji Mifune & Kamen Kanoji vs Tate Monroe, Tyrone Walker & X This non-title match saw Special X come out first, proudly displaying their Trinity X title belts, and receiving good fan support. Monroe and Walker came out next with their mystery partner, who turned out to be Yoshino Nanami! All six men had plenty of time to showcase their stuff in this match, and they all took that opporunity, except for Walker. "Black Jesus" did little more than throw punches and the odd clothesline, bringing nothing to the plate. Monroe and Yoshida engaged in a terrific battle on the mat, Monroe coming out just on top but not by much. Yoshida may have undergone an image and attitude change lately, but he's still one of the best on the mat, and the same can be said for Monroe, who continues to be called the Great King of Technical Skill here in Japan. After the early matwork and pairings, the first big highspots came during a flurry of dives. Yoshida got it stared with a pescado onto Monroe, then Yoshino hit an Asai moonsault onto Yoshida, before Mifune hit a tope onto Yoshino, then Walker hit a top rope plancha onto Mifune. That left Kanoji, who feigned to dive, but instead bounced off the ropes into a backflip, before posing and blowing kisses to the ladies! A little later Nanami showed renewed vigour, taking it to Mifune and Kanoji with more energy than he's shown all tour. He almost fell victim to Mifune's jujigatame, but luckily Monroe made the save. Nanami came close to picking up the upset win himself, hitting Kanoji with the Blinding Driver (over the shoulder sitout tombstone piledriver), but the save came from Yoshida. The finish came with Yoshida and Monroe battling at ringside and Kanoji and Nanami recovering on the floor. Walker went for a springboard lariat, but Mifune dropkicked him out of the air, then hit a brutal spinning backfist, before finishing Walker off with his Drill the Hole piledriver. Winners: Special X Time Of Match: 18'38" -------------------------------------------------- MAIN EVENT: Griffin James, Ryoga Miike, Kyuki Shonjo & Party Animal Delta vs Darkness Kitty!, MIURA, Shadows & Super Darkness Panda To bring the tour to an end, Dream Fujin's main face faction, Fujingun, faced off against their EVIL~! counterparts, 666. The crowd reactions to the entrances were massive, both teams bringing their group banners out and showing a united front. This was also the fans' first look at the new-look Shadows, formerly Ice Dragon, with his all-black outfit and red eyes. The opening minutes involved the usual lucha-style pairings - Panda and Shonjo first, then MIURA and Delta, then MIURA and Miike, and finally James and Kitty!, the fans getting hyped up for that last duo. They teased several of their big moves, the Yakuza kick and shining enzuigiri missing and the Cat Nap and Jamestown Massacre both being blocked. This was followed by plenty of matwork, James, Shonjo and Kitty! showing their superiority on the canvas. The tempo picked up with an awesome spot where the 666 members tried to do a four-man, connected vertical suplex on all four of their opponents, but Fujingun blocked it and then reversed, sending four men crashing to the mat simultaneously! The 666 guys all rolled from the ring, and Fujingun followed with four big dives at the same time, PAD's back handspring moonsault suicida being the highlight. The rudos took control a little later, and made Party Animal Delta into their whipping boy. After a few minutes of beating on the rookie, Darkness Kitty! came in and started to tear at his mask, before tearing it right off... only to reveal another mask underneath! Under the rhino mask was a wolf one! The fans loved it! PAD battled back, almost pinning Kitty! after blocking a lungblower attempt and hitting a reverse lungblower (to the chest) of his own. The Fujingun wrestlers kept control, James and Miike getting a close count after nailing Shadows with a Yakuza kick-sweep kick combo. 666 battled back though, Shadows taking Shonjo down with a lariat to the back of the head. Shonjo became the new whipping boy, but the fans are used to this and got right behind their boy. Shonjo refused to give up, bringing the FIGHTING SPIRIT COMEBACK~! and clearing all four opponents from the ring, before hitting MIURA with a release German suplex for 2 1/2. The match broke down into a big brawl, all eight wrestlers battling around the ring, and taking turns to come back into the ring for a series of near falls. Kitty! dropped Shonjo with a fisherman buster for 2 3/4. Shonjo hopped out of a suplex and cradles Kitty! for a near fall. Shonjo was the first one up, but Kitty! ducked a spin kick and nailed him with a Tiger suplex, bridging for 2 1/2! Kitty! transitioned into a sleeper, but James made the save. James sidestepped a Shadows springboard dropkick and drilled him... ROARING ELBOW! James followed up with the Jamestown Massacre for 2 1/2. James went to the top, but he was caught up there by MIURA, both men crashing to the floor. Across the ring, Shonjo hit a standing moonsault on Shadows for 2. Shadows flipped through a suplex, and took Shonjo down into an anklelock! PAD broke that, but was lariated from the ring by Kitty! Shadows nailed Shonjo with a spin kick, sending him staggering into Kitty!, who drilled him with the Darkness Bomber (crossed arms powerbomb) for the 3-count! As his teammates celebrated, Kitty! got on the microphone and laid out a challenge to Tate Monroe, for his Independent Super-Lightweight title. Winners: 666 Time Of Match: 22'41" -------------------------------------------------- Overall comments: - No real suprises on this card. The main event was closely fought, with both teams involving a number of rookies, so it could have gone either way. - Special X reinforced their position as the best trios team in Dream Fujin, and go into the next tour with plenty of confidence that they can hold on to the Trinity X belts. - The newcomers on this tour, Ketsu Tonaga and Tommy Kamoura, have shown plenty of potential. They're worth watching on future tours. - Noone can deny that the depth of contenders for both titles is stronger and deeper than ever before. Kazushima Yakamotu said he would improve the spirit of competition in Dream Fujin, and he has succeeded in doing just that. © Dream Fujin, 2006. |
