Match One:
Steel Cougar vs Monkey Monk[Monkey Pro]

Poor old Steel Cougar. He's got to be wondering what's going on. While others from his graduating class, like Shadows (formerly Ice Dragon) and Ultraman Zeta have made real progress, Cougar's stuck wrestling an opening match against a comedy wrestler from a comedy league.

This match was exactly what you'd expect - a basic opener with plenty of comedy. Monkey Monk (basically a guy in a monkey suit with a monk's outfit over the top) played up for the crowd, doing his schtick with plenty of praying and primate antics.

Cougar picked up the win by making Monkey tap out to an anklelock.

Winner: Steel Cougar
Time Of Match: 6'44"

Match Two
Wasai Thrillblade vs Kyuki Shonjo

Shonjo has come along in leaps and bounds, making the move up from rookie to mid-card potential, but in this match it was a return to old times, as he played job boy for Thrillblade. Part of Shonjo's appeal is that he is the ultimate underdog, so the crowd was firmly behind him, urging on his fighting spirit. Thrillblade didn't care about the fans, as he was firmly in dickhead rudo mode, taking cheapshots at Shonjo, arguing with the referee and fans, and using offence that was clearly designed more for insult than injury.

Shonjo battled back valiantly, but ultimately fell to a sitout powerbomb.

Winners: Wasai Thrillblade
Time of Match: 5'06"

Match Three
Tyrone Walker & Yoshino Nanami
vs
Ketsu Tonaga & X

The two main allies of Independent Super-Lightweight champion Tate Monroe stepped in to take on the newest graduate of the Fujin Dojo, Tonaga. Tonaga's partner was unannounced, but was revealed as someone who got a HUGE ovation from the Hokkaido fans.

With a mask that had the appearance of a big baseball, and wearing the playing uniform of the Sapporo-based Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters baseball team, he was announced as Ham Fighter Kimoto. Accompanying him to the ring was none other than Nippon Ham Fighters mascot, Brisky the Bear! (see http://www.fighters.co.jp/bb/diary/gallery37.html to check out the mohawked bear himself).

The crowd was uber-hot for this newcomer, and the excitement about having Brisky at ringside was palpable. Walker and Nanami were suitably unimpressed, and took their frustrations out on Tonaga, giving the youngster an old school welcoming party. Tonaga was in bad shape early, but made the hot, hot tag to Kimoto. The result was Kimoto cleaning house with simply, rookie-ish offence with some spots that you could guess will become part of his gimmick - lots of baseball slide dropkicks, "strike three" punches and "safe" chops.

Kimoto almost picked up what would have been a massive debut win, hitting Walker with a move he calls the "Aachi" (Japanese for Home Run). As Walker was struggling up to his feet, Kimoto made like a hitter in the batter's box, clinching his hands like they were holding an imaginary bat, lining up Walker, who turned around... and was blasted in the chest by Kimoto's swing, both of his fists driving into the chest and knocking him flat.

But Nanami made the save, then nailed Kimoto with a running shotei palmstrike, sending him from the ring. Tonaga came flying in with a springboard, but right into an elbowshot. Nanami finished Tonaga off with his over-the-shoulder sitout tombstone, the Blinding Driver.

Winners: Walker/Nanami
Time Of Match: 11'42"

Match Four
Usagi Yoshida, Ryoji Mifune & Kamen Kanoji
vs
Fuego Tigre jr[ILL], El Hijo del Super Macho[ILL] & Tommy Kamoura

Talk about a melting pot of wrestling styles. The ILL guys brought the lucha libre, Kamoura the European stylings, Mifune the shootfighting, Kanoji the comedy and Yoshida the lucharesu.

The story of this match was that Special X had the better teamwork and as a result had control of the match for most of the time. But at the same time Kamoura showed a lot of heart and would fight back against the odds and get the flash near falls, bringing the crowd into it.

Tigre jr and EHdSM didn't bring much to the match apart from the odd highflying move, like stereo topes. Kanoji's tomfoolery almost cost his team the match, when he was distracted by blowing kisses to girls in the crowd and fell victim to the Kamoura Stretch (stepover toehold Dragon Sleeper). Luckily for Special X, Yoshida made the save before it was too late.

Yoshida, who is slowly getting back to his best after a lengthy lay-off, busted out his awesome multiple-revolution corbata, and the old school crotch claw. He picked up the win for his team by drilling EHdSM with his Psyborg Driver (tombstone piledriver), then slapping on the Psyence Facelock for the tapout.

Winners: Special X
Time Of Match: 12'07"

Match Five - Dream World Tag League Group A:
Darkness Kitty! & Shadows
vs
Party Animal Delta & Ultraman Zeta

Team 666 has two tagteams in the tournament, and it was up to their A team to kick things off. In the ultimate battle between good versus evil, the black-clad 666 duo faced off against the fun-loving party guy/superhero pairing, who did a lot of dancing on their way to the ring, to the joy of the fans.

Breaking a lot of expectations, this match was the best of the night. Darkness Kitty! is a workrate machine, and rarely disappoints, but it was the performances of the other three guys that really made the difference. Party Animal Delta is really developing into a solid wrestler, and the two rookies Zeta and Shadows (formerly Ice Dragon) worked their asses off. Both have taken their fair share of lumps in their first few tours, but look to have learned from being in the ring with the big boys, and if this match is any indication, they're on the path to the top.

The coolest spot of the match was when Kitty! took down both Delta and Zeta, then lay Zeta on top of Delta and applied a double figure four leglock on them both! There were plenty of high-flying spots, and Kitty! got in a lot of his signature moves (acting dead and kipping up, cat pounce, Cat Nap etc). PAD hit a beautiful reverse huracanrana on Shadows, and his breathtaking back handspring moonsault suicida.

Kitty! picked up the win for his team by capitalising on a missed dragonrana by PAD, then drilling him with the Heartless Attack powerbomb.

Winners: Kitty!/Shadows [2pts]
Time Of Match: 14'05"

Match Six - Dream World Tag League Group B:
Jin Ketsumo[RISE] & Tsuyoshi Sai[RISE]
vs
MIURA & Super Darkness Panda

Like the previous match, this one involved a 666 tagteam (undoubtedly their "B" team), but unfortunately it couldn't keep the momentum going. Whereas the last match was an entertaining, high-energy affair, this one was disjointed, with no real entertainment value and sub-par skills on show.

The new-look MIURA was in hard-hitting form, bludgeoning the RISE boys with moves like a kneedrop to the back of the neck, vicious chops and a devastating fireman's carry into a double-knee gutbuster.

Ketsumo and Sai, both former Fujin Dojo graduates, continued to show why they weren't offered Dream Fujin contacts, as their offence was less than basic. Lots of punching and kicking, and not much more. Panda did nothing of real note either.

MIURA put Sai (and the fans) out of his misery with an overhead Uranage suplex for the 3-count.

Winners: MIURA/Panda [2pts]
Time Of Match: 15'30"

MAIN EVENT - Dream World Tag League Group B:
HERO Ishikawa & Apollo Kid III
vs
Griffin James & Ryoga Miike

The third tournament match of the night promised to be the best, as the Fujingun General (James) and his former Crazy Bastard Cop buddy (Miike) faced off against the team from MEGA Gurentai. The fans showed a lot of support for the Fujingun team, who once again had Miike waving the team's banner. Ishikawa and Apollo Kid were in their trademark leather jackets and dark sunglasses.

MEGA Gurentai attacked as James and Miike were entering, then took them into the crowd for some good old fashioned brawling. A chairshot from Ishikawa left James recovering amongst the fans, and MEGA Gurentai then isolated Miike in the ring and beat him down, before striking a pose on him.

After that the match settled down into a familiar routine. Ishikawa and Apollo Kid were in typical form, working rudo antics into their offence and taking shortcuts whenever things got out of control.

One awesome spot saw Ishikawa and Apollo Kid working over James and hitting him with a flurry of corner charges. But they went to the well once too many times, as James powered out of the corner, knocking Apollo Kid head over heels with a _brutal_ Yakuza kick, then decking Ishikawa with a roaring elbow. Miike wasn't about to be outdone, busting out an awesome John Woo-style dropkick, blasting Ishikawa with both feet and falling backwards with both hands making gun movements!

The closing minutes saw Apollo Kid duck a lariat and plant Miike with a DDT for 2, James making the save. James hopped out of a Ishikawa HEROHAcker Bomb attempt, but Ishikawa caught him with a low blow, then nailed an STO for 2 1/2! Apollo Kid hit a frog splash from the top, but was soon dropped by a Miike enzuigiri, which also got 2 1/2!

James planted Apollo Kid with an Ego (Ace) Crusher for 2. Miike came off the ropes, but out of nowhere Apollo Kid blasted him with a leg lariat, which Ishikawa followed up with his ascending Asai moonsaults, hooking the leg for 2 1/2, James making the save!

Miike nailed Apollo Kid with a Dragon suplex, bridging and Ishikawa making the save. A big Yakuza kick from James sent Ishikawa from the ring, as Miike drilled Apollo Kid with a rolling German suplex, then a half nelson suplex, dragging a barely-conscious Apollo Kid back up into the path of the devastating Fujingun Stinger (spear-like diving elbow) from James, followed by the cover for the easy 3.

Winners: James/Miike [2pts]
Time Of Match: 17'04"

Overall comments:

- No real surprises as the very first Dream World Tag League got underway tonight. The first three matches went to expectactions.

- In two nights' time, the tournament continues with Monroe/Walker vs PAD/Zeta and Yoshida/Mifune vs Tigre jr/EHdSM in Group A and James/Miike vs Ketsumo/Sai in Group B.
