Dream Fujin Wednesday July 12 Tokyo Differ Ariake 1200 fans The Dream World Tag League '06 tour moved out of the Hokkaido prefecture for the first time, for a spot show in Tokyo. -------------------------------------------------- Match One - DEFEAT ALL MONSTER: Steel Cougar, Kohei Aoki[Free], Kyuki Shonjo & Ketsu Tonaga vs Jigoku Monsters Blue, Red, Black and Green This was the first match in the "DESTROY ALL MONSTER" series, in which a group of Dream Fujin rookies have vowed to defend their company against the invading Jigoku Monsters, who first showed up at Yubari Bunka Sports Center at the end of the previous tour. The Jigoku Monsters all dress the same and look like a cross between Power Rangers and alien monsters, with big eyes. Like their names suggest, there's one with a blue outfit, one with a red outfit, one with a black outfit and one with a green outfit. This high-energy opening sprint was a pure spotfest, with no psychology whatsoever. The Jigoku Monsters (whoever it is under the masks) showed that they're all fairly-capable high flyers, while Shonjo shone for his team, showing that he's a level above the lesser-experienced Cougar, Tonaga and the freelancer Aoki. The theme of the match was that the Jigoku Monsters would use all sorts of illegal tactics and gang up on their opponents, often in 3-on-1 and 4-on-1 situations. The fans got behind the young rookies, wanting to see them beat the Monsters. Unfortunately it wasn't to be, as Aoki fell to a top rope powerslam by Jigoku Monster Green, after Aoki was lifted up to him by Jigoku Monster Red. The Jigoku Monsters engaged in a post-match beatdown, but were eventually sent from the ring by the young rookies. Winners: Jigoku Monsters Time Of Match: 8'25" -------------------------------------------------- Match Two: HERO Ishikawa, Wasai Thrillblade & Apollo Kid III vs Tommy Kamoura, British Steel & Maiden Japan All three members of MEGA Gurentai (with their trademark leather jackets, dark sunglasses and dickish rudo tendencies) took on the Metal Gods and a young man who has impressed so far in his short time in Dream Fujin, Tommy "SILKEN" Kamoura. The MEGA Gurentai boys were in fine form, showing superior teamwork and taking their time to wear down their opponents with rudo cheapshots, Ishikawa leading the way and grinning a lot as he busted out the full repertoire - spinning backrakes, low blows, eyerakes etc. Kamoura finally had enough of this carry-on, taking the fight to MEGA Gurentai and blasting all three of them with vicious European uppercuts. The fans cheered him on as he nailed Apollo Kid with a brainbuster, but HERO made the save. He threw Kamoura from the ring and went out after him, as the Metal Gods came in and overpowered Thrillblade. They set up for the Headbanger's Fall, but Thrillblade rolled out of the way of the low blow headbutt, then lowblowed Maiden Japan, before nailing him with a German suplex hold for the 3-count. Winners: MEGA Gurentai Time of Match: 11'39" -------------------------------------------------- Match Three: Darkness Kitty! & Super Darkness Panda vs Elvis Sunday & Hasselhoff SE They're in separate teams in the Dream World Tag League, but 666ers Darkness Kitty! and Super Darkness Panda joined forces to take on the afroed duo of Elvis Sunday and Hasselhoff SE (of course, Hasselhoff's is a wig). This match should have been a classic, especially given the long-term hatred between Kitty! and Sunday, but essentially it fell flat. Unfortunately, the main culprit was Sunday, who seemed a few notches below his normal level. Whether he is wrestling injured or just tired, it was a shame to see. Kitty!, no doubt inspired by the announcement that he will challenge for the Independent Super-Lightweight title in just under a week's time, was in full force. In fact, he was brutal, throwing a lot more kicks and "cat swipe" slaps into his moveset, but also managing to use a lot of the old favourites, like catching Uncle Dai's hand before the three count, and hitting a frog splash-like crossbody on Hasselhoff. Hasselhoff SE and Super Darkness Panda engaged in some comedy. The red-speedoed David Hasselhoff impersonator got the crowd to start a "HASS-URU-HOFFO! HASS-URU-HOFFO!" chant, so Panda tried to start one of his own. The crowd didn't catch on, so Panda began to rub his eyes like he was crying, then left the ring! Kitty! went out after him and brang him back into the ring, where the crowd began to chant "PAN-DAH! PAN-DAH!". This perked up the furry one to no end - in fact, he was so happy that he got the crowd started in a chant for Uncle Dai! Kitty! continued his impressive build-up to the title challenge, putting Hasselhoff SE down for the 3-count with the DK Suplex (a half tiger/half leg clutch suplex). Winners: Kitty!/Panda Time Of Match: 13'22" -------------------------------------------------- Match Four - Dream World Tag League Group A: Tate Monroe & Ty Walker [0] vs Party Animal Delta & Ultraman Zeta [0] The new combination of superhero Ultraman Zeta and animal-masked frat boy Party Animal Delta (tonight with a zebra mask) impressed a lot of people despite losing to Darkness Kitty! and Shadows two nights ago, and they were back in underdog mode tonight, as they faced the current Independent champ and his long-time teammate, both former Trinity X champs. The match was exciting, although it was obvious to anyone watching that Monroe and PAD were carrying their teams. In fact, the match seemed to drag when Walker and Zeta were in the ring alone. Zeta did almost steal the win though, when he trapped Walker in a crabhold. Monroe broke that up, then sent Zeta all the way across the ring with a belly to belly throw! He signalled for the Textbook Finish, but suddenly PAD came flying in with a springboard dropkick! PAD went up top, but Monroe crotched him on the top turnbuckle, PAD going crashing to the floor. Zeta was back up, and he charged at Monroe, who ducked out of the way, then in one smooth motion took him down into a dragonsleeper/chickenwing combo with bodyscissors. Zeta fought it for a few seconds, but had no choice but to submit. Winners: Monroe/Walker [2pts] Time Of Match: 13'29" -------------------------------------------------- Match Five - Dream World Tag League Group B: Griffin James & Ryoga Miike [2] vs Jin Ketsumo[RISE] & Tsuyoshi Sai[RISE] [0] The uber-popular Fujingun team got the crowd excited as they got ready to take on two former Fujin Dojo graduates, who now ply their trade in the Tokyo-based RISE promotion. The Tokyo fans gave Ketsumo and Sai moderate support, undoubtedly more than they will receive anywhere else on this tour. Two nights ago, Ketsumo and Sai stunk up the ring. Tonight they were a lot better (probably inspired by being in Tokyo), and actually gave James and Miike a good fight. Ketsumo made a stupid, stupid mistake at the opening bell... trying to engage James in an exchange of elbowshots. James was only too happy to oblige, and proceeded to bludgeon the young RISE star to near-unconsciousness. Ketsumo took a hell of a beating in the match, but continued to show rookie fighting spirit, and on more than a few occasions tried to stand up to James, only to get his ass handed to him yet again. Miike and Sai engaged in a long battle, Miike showing his new kick and suplex-based offence, hitting a nice dragon suplex that he bridged for a close count. James set up Sai for the Jamestown Massacre, but Ketsumo broke it up, the two RISE guys facing off against James. They set the Fujingun General up for a spike powerbomb, but James flipped through it, and nailed both guys with vicious elbows, before sending Sai crashing out to the floor with a nasty Yakuza kick. That left Ketsumo and Miike alone in the ring, and Miike followed up a brutal enzuigiri to the face with a rolling German into a half nelson suplex, spiking Ketsumo bigtime with the move he calls the Lazarus Suplex, covering for the 3-count. Winners: James/Miike [4pts] Time Of Match: 11'58" -------------------------------------------------- MAIN EVENT - Dream World Tag League Group A: Usagi Yoshida & Ryoji Mifune [0] vs Fuego Tigre jr[ILL] & El Hijo del Super Macho[ILL] [0] The masked luchadors from Dream Fujin's sister Mexican promotion, Internacional Lucha Libre, returned to Japan faced with a difficult task - beating two-thirds of Special X, and two men who currently wear Trinity X gold. The opening minutes involved all sorts of lucha insanity, with Tigre jr and EHdSM busting out springboard planchas inside the first minute! Special X couldn't seem to get any momentum going, as the masked luchadors kept a frantic pace going with dropkicks, armdrags and the sort. Special X eventually turned the tide, Mifune slowing things down with some grappling and submission moves. After that slight pause, the pace picked up again, but this time Yoshida was able to match anything the luchadors threw at him. The mohawked Mifune showed that his former deathmatch persona isn't dead, busting out a chair-assisted plancha onto EHdSM at one point. He wanted to powerbomb the second-generation luchador onto the concrete, but EHdSM countered with a huracanrana! Yoshida picked up the win by drilling Tigre jr with two Psyborg Drivers (tombstone piledrivers). Winners: Yoshida/Mifune [2pts] Time Of Match: 17'39" -------------------------------------------------- Overall comments: - The Fujingun team of Griffin James and Ryoga Miike has developed a lead in the tournament, being the first team to reach 4 points. Although, clearly not all teams have wrestled two matches yet. - The tournament is still awaiting its first upset. So far all matches have gone to form. - The points table as it currently stands is as follows: Group A: 1. Darkness Kitty! & Shadows 2pts 2. Usagi Yoshida & Ryoji Mifune 2pts 3. Tate Monroe & Ty Walker 2pts 4. Party Animal Delta & Ultraman Zeta 0pts 5. Fuego Tigre jr & El Hijo del Super Macho [ILL] 0pts 6. Monkey Monk & Funky Monkey [Monkey Pro] 0pts Group B: 1. Griffin James & Ryoga Miike 4pts 2. MIURA & Super Darkness Panda 2pts 3. HERO Ishikawa & Apollo Kid III 0pts 4. Elvis Sunday & Ketsu Tonaga 0pts 5. Jin Ketsumo & Tsuyoshi Sai [RISE] 0pts 6. British Steel & Maiden Japan 0pts - On Friday the tournament continues with four more matches. In Group A it's Party Animal Delta/Ultraman Zeta vs Fuego Tigre jr/El Hijo del Super Macho and Usagi Yoshida/Ryoji Mifune vs Monkey Monk/Funky Monkey, and in Group B it's MIURA/Super Darkness Panda vs the Metal Gods and HERO Ishikawa/Apollo Kid III vs Elvis Sunday/Ketsu Tonaga. © Dream Fujin, 2006. |
