Dream Fujin
Monday July 17
Zepp Sapporo
1700 fans (overfull)

It was standing room only in the Zepp Sapporo concert hall, as a bumper crowd came to see the Dream World Tag League roll on, and to see the Independent Super Lightweight title defended.

--------------------------------------------------

Match One - DEFEAT ALL MONSTER:
Party Animal Delta & Kyuki Shonjo
vs
Jigoku Monsters Blue & Red

The Fujingun rookies vs Jigoku Monsters series continued, with the Monsters so far winning all the matches. But tonight Party Animal Delta joined the cause, forming a strong team with Kyuki Shonjo.

This was a typical spotfest sprint opener, with lots of high flying and lucha-esque action. The crowd showed a lot of support for the Fujingun team, particularly PAD, but the Jigoku Monsters kept up their perfect record via some illegal tactics. Jigoku Monsters Green and Black became involved, and in the confusion, Blue and Red were able to isolate Shonjo and finish him off with a spike piledriver, Blue covering for the pin.

Winners: Jigoku Monsters
Time Of Match: 9'12"

--------------------------------------------------

Match Two:
Tommy Kamoura & Ham Fighter Kimoto
vs
Wasai Thrillblade & Shiro Namiguchi[Free]

European-trained Kamoura teamed up with newcomer Kimoto (a masked wrestler who is a walking tribute to the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters baseball team, and is accompanied by the Fighters' mascot, Brisky the Bear) to take on MEGA Gurentai's Thrillblade and freelancer Namiguchi (a former Dream Fujiner who wrestled under the Uchu Koujin Red gimmick).

Kamoura and Thrillblade led the way in this match, Kamoura using his European stylings (European uppercuts etc) and Thrillblade doing his dickhead rudo bit. Kimoto had limited time in the ring, using baseball gimmicked moves (baseball dropkicks, "safe" chops etc), and Namiguchi was clearly the least talented of the four in the ring.

Kamoura finished off Namiguchi, making him tap out to the Kamoura Stretch (a stepover toehold dragon sleeper).

Winners: Kamoura/Kimoto
Time of Match: 14'05"

--------------------------------------------------

Match Three - SPECIAL TAG VARIETY:
Ultraman Zeta, Fuego Tigre jr[ILL] & Monkey Monk[Monkey Pro]
vs
Ryoji Mifune, Tyrone Walker & Shadows

This match, tagged "Special Tag Variety", was something a bit different. It involved six wrestlers, one each from six teams in the Dream World Tag League, which were not wrestling tonight. The six wrestlers were divided up into two teams, making for some interesting combinations. On one side, superhero Ultraman Zeta, Mexican luchador Fuego Tigre jr and comedy wrestler Monkey Monk. On the other, Special X's Ryoji Mifune, American Tyrone Walker and 666's Shadows (formerly Ice Dragon).

The first team managed to co-exist - in fact, they made quite a good team, with their mix of comedy and lucharesu stylings. The other team, however, was not so friendly. The main tension was between Walker and Shadows, no doubt added to by the fact that their allies would be fighting later tonight for the Independent title. That tension turned to physical confrontation, as Shadows and Walker came to blows.

Despite their problems, the rudo team somehow still managed to pull off the win. Lucky for them, Monkey Monk was more interested in interacting with the fans than helping his team, and after Fuego Tigre jr launched onto the brawling Shadows and Walker with a plancha, Mifune and Zeta were left in the ring. Zeta missed a moonsault, and Mifune finished him off with the Drill a Hole piledriver.

Winners: Mifune/Walker/Shadows
Time Of Match: 13'24"

--------------------------------------------------

Match Four - Dream World Tag League Group B:
MIURA & Super Darkness Panda [2]
vs
HERO Ishikawa & Apollo Kid III [1]

The first Dream World Tag League match of the night was a good one, pitting 666 against MEGA Gurentai. Both teams realised that all points are extremely valuable in this tournament, and fought hard for the win here tonight.

Ishikawa was the star of the match, showing vintage form with his unique brand of showmanship, busting out Da Fistdrop~! of several varieties and cutting plenty of corners as well. Apollo Kid III tried to follow his lead, but is clearly not in the MEGA Gurentai leader's class just yet. MIURA and Panda have been disappointing in the tournament so far, but showed a lot of improvement here tonight. The former monk MIURA seems to be becoming comfortable with his new style and gimmick, impressing the fans with a variety of hard-hitting kicks and suplexes.

After a series of exciting near falls, MIURA finished off Apollo Kid with an overhead Uranage suplex, giving his team a valuable second win. Ishikawa was not pleased by the result, admonishing his young charge as they left the ring.

Winners: MIURA/Panda [4pts]
Time Of Match: 13'29"

--------------------------------------------------

Match Five - Dream World Tag League Group B:
Jin Ketsumo[RISE] & Tsuyoshi Sai[RISE] [0]
vs
British Steel & Maiden Japan [2]

Next up was the team from RISE against the Metal Gods. The less said about this match the better, because Sai and Ketsumo were just plain awful. Even the Metal Gods, who can always be relied upon to entertain (with their mullet-wigged masks and air guitaring antics), seemed lethargic and uninspired.

The Metal Gods picked up the win after an air guitar double missile dropkick, when Steel pinned Sai.

Winners: Metal Gods [4pts]
Time Of Match: 10'37"

--------------------------------------------------

Match Six - Dream World Tag League Group B:
Elvis Sunday & Ketsu Tonaga [1]
vs
Griffin James & Ryoga Miike [4]

Fujingun versus Fujingun! The fans were hot for his match-up, cheering on both teams. The Fujingun general, Griffin James, and the former Crazy Bastard Cop, Ryoga Miike were clearly a class above their opponents. That's understandable in the case of Tonaga, who's a green rookie, but Elvis Sunday is a former Trinity X champion and number one contender to the Independent title. The Flyin' Hawaiian isn't wrestling like he can right now, and it showed in this match.

Tonaga ended up playing whipping boy for most of the match, as James and Miike showed off a bunch of doubleteam moves, proving that they're developing into quite a formidable team. Surprisingly though, it wasn't Tonaga who was on the receiving end of the fall, but Sunday, who fell victim to Miike's double powerbomb, which he calls the Phoenix Bomb.

Winners: James/Miike [6pts]
Time Of Match: 9'14"

MAIN EVENT - Independent Super Lightweight Championship:
Tate Monroe ©
vs
Darkness Kitty!

The arena went dark, before evil laughing filled the arena. Red lazer lights flashed through the air as "Hells Bells" by ACDC began to play, and out came the challenger, Darkness Kitty!, in his now-familiar all-black outfit, complete with the mask that resembles an evil version of Hello Kitty!. Flanking him were his 666 followers, Super Darkness Panda, Shadows and MIURA (Shadows waving a large black banner with 666 in dripping blood red letters). The lights came back on as this gathering of evil made their way into the ring.

Next up was the champion, with a much simpler entrance. Monroe came out wearing the title belt and his usual ring get-up, flanked by Yoshino Nanami and Tyrone Walker. Nothing flashy from the champ.

Commissioner Kazushima Yakamotu came to the ring to hold the title belt for the official photographs, which followed the introductions. Both wrestlers got good crowd pops as their names were announced, with Kitty! probably getting slightly more. With the belt, Yakamotu took a seat at ringside.

Referee Uncle Dai ushered the two factions from the ring, and the opening bell sounded! The first couple of minutes involved the kind of hesitant, cautious mat-wrestling that are typical of these big matches. The superior mat skills of Monroe, one of the best technicians in the sport, started to show through slowly but surely, as he seemed to have a counter for everything that Kitty! tried. Kitty! showed his usual disdain for the rules, testing Uncle Dai's patience as he did things like countering a headlock by hooking Monroe's nose and wrenching back on it, and biting his head to escape another hold.

A rake of the eyes earned a reprimand from Uncle Dai, but Kitty! didn't care, gesturing towards his 666 buddies, who all nodded and clapped. Kitty! and Monroe then engaged in an exchange of chops, Kitty! ending it with a boot to the gut and whip into the far corner. He charged in, but Monroe moved, then dumped him with a release German suplex! The crowd "ooohhh"ed as it sensed Kitty! was in trouble early!

The cover resulted in a kickout, so Monroe went for another. Kitty! elbowed his way out, then lept up and nailed an enzuigiri! He hit a series of kicks, but the see-saw nature of the match continued as Monroe caught a leg and then dumped Kitty! with a capture suplex, rolling through and applying a quick dragon sleeper... Kitty! scurrying to the ropes before he could complete the chickenwing and apply bodyscissors.

Dragging Kitty! back into the middle of the ring, Monroe applied an anklelock, Kitty! looking to be in a lot of pain, but escaping by rolling through and sending the champ crashing through the ropes and out to the floor. As Monroe recovered at ringside, Kitty! lept to his feet and then rebounded, sprinting... and hitting a no touch tope!

As Uncle Dai started a count, Kitty! pulled up the protective ringside mats, then yelled out "DARK-U-NESS BOMBAAA!!". He set Monroe up for his pyramid bomb, but Monroe countered by backdropping Kitty! onto the exposed concrete! The champ rolled back in, Kitty! making it back just in time, at 18!

Monroe kept up the pressure by targetting Kitty!'s right leg, a strategy that Dream Fujin fans have seen many times before. A single leg crabhold and cloverleaf hold both resulted in rope breaks, Monroe even throwing in a La Majistral Cradle for good measure.

Kitty! regained control with another rake of the eyes, then chopped away at Monroe, before running the ropes... and getting thrown across the ring by an overhead belly to belly! Monroe went back to the leg, applying a figure four leglock! Kitty! struggled and struggled, but made the ropes. Monroe then hit his picture-perfect Northern Lights suplex, bridging... but Kitty! caught Uncle Dai's hand before it could hit a third time! The fans loved that spot, "oooohhhh"ing and then applauding.

Monroe went for a vertical suplex, but Kitty! dropped down behind him, hitting a vicious lungblower as he fell! Ouch! Monroe was in a world of pain, as Kitty! proceeded to stomp away at him, before hitting a running kneedrop. A Russian legsweep was followed immediately with a grounded Octopus hold, but Monroe wouldn't give up. Kitty! dragged him up, chopping away some more, then ducking behind and nailing a Tiger Suplex... 2 1/2!

Kitty! yelled "OIRNAS LANCER!", draping his leg across the back of the neck of the doubled over Monroe, but Monroe thrust upwards, sending the 666 leader into a backflip. Monroe nailed him with a kick to the gut, then dropped him with a double underhook backbreaker! 2 count!

Both wrestlers were tired, recovering on the mat. Monroe was the first to rise, dragging Kitty! up and going for another Northern Lights suplex. But Kitty! fought his way out with knees to the face, then ran the ropes, ducking a chop and hitting a leg lariat! Standing moonsault... 2! Kitty! was angry at Uncle Dai, accusing him of counting too slow.

Kitty! followed up with stinging overhand chops to the chest of the tired champ, then a lariat sent Monroe over the top rope and crashing to the floor! Kitty! was slow to follow him out, but stomped away at him, then applied a front chancery, hooking a leg... FISHERMAN BUSTER ON THE FLOOR!! As Monroe lay on the floor, Kitty! was joined by Shadows, who flapped a towel to get his leader some much-needed air.

Kitty! slowly rolled Monroe back in, covering for 2. Vicious stomps followed, and when Monroe struggled to his feet, vicious chops that sent him back to the canvas. More stomps followed, and then a kneedrop. And another! Another! Finally, a running kneedrop! He dragged Monroe up, and slapped on a sleeper hold! The crowd "OOOHHHH"ed as the champion struggled, his arms thrashing about but getting slower. It looked to be lights out, but Monroe somehow managed to grab the ropes, Uncle Dai calling for the break. Kitty! did so, then kneed Monroe in the kidney, and dragged him back out to the middle, reapplying the sleeperhold!

But before Kitty! could really get it locked on, Monroe ducked underneath... backdrop suplex for 2! Both men stayed down for a bit, then rose at the same time, Kitty! regaining the advantage with a swift kick to the gut. More chops followed, then he lifted Monroe up onto the top turnbuckle. He climbed up as well, the two combatants balancing precariously before Kitty! brought the champ down with a superplex! Kitty! was slow to cover... only getting a 2 count.

Kitty! slowly climbed to the top, but his top rope kneedrop hit nothing but canvas! Monroe was fired up, hooking on the dragon sleeper, but Kitty! fought out of it with overhead kicks to the face! Kitty! reversed their positions, applying an inverted headlock, then driving down sideways, dropping an elbow across Monroe's chest... CAT NAP! Cover... 2 3/4! Close!

"HEART-U-RESS ATTACKO!" was the yell from Kitty! as he dragged Monroe up, setting him up and lifting him powerbomb-style... but Monroe flipped through it, only instead of landing on his feet, he came down chestfirst, holding onto Kitty!'s arm... and taking him down into a Fujiwara armbar! Kitty! was in deep trouble in the middle of the ring. His leg snaked out, searching for the ropes, as the fans yelled in anticipation... applauding as Kitty! finally made the ropes and forced the break.

Kitty! shook his pain-ridden arm as he climbed to his feet, and Monroe went in for the kill. He wrenched on the arm, then pulled Kitty! into a front chancery... TEXTBOOK FINISH!! Cover for... 2 7/8!! Boy that was close! The crowd went crazy, stomping their feet and applauding like crazy!

Monroe dragged Kitty! up, and went for another Textbook Finish! But Kitty! broke free, swinging the champ around and applying a half tiger... but before he could get the leg clutch and follow through with the DK Suplex, Monroe too broke free... German suplex! BRIDGED! 2 3/4! Another close count!

Monroe dragged Kitty! back up, applying another rear waistlock, but suddenly Kitty! charged forward, slamming into Uncle Dai and knocking him off balance, before driving a mule kick backwards... low blow! Uncle Dai didn't see it! Monroe dropped to one knee in pain, and Kitty! went on the attack with boots and punches, before ducking behind... Tiger Suplex! Bridged! But Monroe kicked out at 2 1/2!

Kitty! kicked away at Monroe some more, then wrenched him into a standing headscissors, underhooking both arms... AND SPIKING HIM WITH A TIGER DRIVER!! Kitty! was slow to make the cover though, allowing Monroe to kick out at 2 3/4, to a huge pop! Kitty! was frustrated, pushing Uncle Dai a couple of times, before returning to Monroe. Another standing headscissors, and this time... HEARTLESS ATTACK!! He spiked him with a high-impact powerbomb! The cover... but NO! Kickout at 2 7/8! The crowd goes nuts!

Kitty! made the cut-throat gesture and headed to the top. But Monroe climbed to his feet and charged the corner, catching him off-guard! A moment later Kitty! was sitting on the top turnbuckle, with a front chancery applied, and a leg hooked... and Monroe jumped out of the corner, while rolling to the side... TEXTBOOK FINISH FROM THE TOP! HOLY CRAP!! Monroe was too tired to follow up, but slowly crawled over, hooking the leg... 1-2-3!

The crowd applauded loudly, appreciating the efforts of both men, as Monroe and Kitty! remained sprawled on the mat. Their allies scrambled into the ring, 666 tending to Kitty! as Walker and Nanami helped Monroe to his feet, the champ sweaty and tired but smiling as he received the title belt.

The 666 guys were clearly unhappy with the result, but could do little more than lick their wounds as they assisted Kitty! to the back, the fans applauding him as they went. Monroe hoisted the title belt into the air to more loud applause.

Winner: Tate Monroe [2nd defence]
Time Of Match: 25'16"

Overall comments:

- This was a great night of wrestling, with a couple of strong Dream World Tag League matches and an epic Independent title match. The fans went away happy and there's still plenty of excitement in store on this tour.

- Tate Monroe has survived another strong challenge, and will leave this tour with the Independent Super Lightweight title belt around his waist. Darkness Kitty! gave it his all, but has come up short yet again. Who will provide the next challenge for Monroe? A former champion, such as James or Yoshida? An international star like HERO Ishikawa? Or an up and comer like Party Animal Delta, MIURA or Ryoji Mifune? Only time will tell.

- After tonight's results, the standings in the Dream World Tag League '06 are:

Group A:
1= Usagi Yoshida & Ryoji Mifune 4pts
1= Darkness Kitty! & Shadows 4pts
1= Party Animal Delta & Ultraman Zeta 4pts
4. Tate Monroe & Ty Walker 2pts
5. Fuego Tigre jr & El Hijo del Super Macho [ILL] 0pts
6. Monkey Monk & Funky Monkey [Monkey Pro] 0pts

Group B:
1. Griffin James & Ryoga Miike 6pts
2= MIURA & Super Darkness Panda 4pts
2= British Steel & Maiden Japan 4pts
4= HERO Ishikawa & Apollo Kid III 1pts
4= Elvis Sunday & Ketsu Tonaga 1pts
6. Jin Ketsumo & Tsuyoshi Sai [RISE] 0pts

- The Dream World Tag League takes a break on Wednesday night, as the Chitose Sports Center plays host to a tournament to find the very first Shirouto Cup champion. The Cup is for rookies in their first year of wrestling. Also on the show will be Fujingun vs 666 in trios action, and Special X defending the Trinity X titles against MEGA Gurentai!
