[MBC] HOUSE SHOW REPORT

June 22th, 2006

at: United Spirit Arena in Lubbock, TX

Hey, everybody! I just got back from the MBC show in Lubbock, TX and figured I'd send in what happened. I've been a wrestling fan for years, but I'd never

watched the MBC. When tickets went on sale, some of the other guys on the team wanted us all to go out as a unit. I remember that the MBC had a reputation

of being freaks, misfits and stupid stunts. that just seemed...bleh. I didn't want to, but they showed me some of the shows, and it looked cool enough, so

I went for it.

God, I'm glad I did. I wish I'd have been watching this stuff sooner and I know I'm not going to miss it anymore.

Anyway, we got there early and managed to make it through the chaos at the entrance to find out block of seats just off ringside by the entrance. I ended

up right in the corner where the entrance turns into the ringside area, so I got a great view of everything, all night.

JUSTIN HARPER vs. GARY KOBO III

----------------------------------------

The first match was Justin Harper beating this guy called KOBO or something. I missed his name, and the crowd didn't seem to care for either person. In

fact, things were kinda messed up at the ticket entrance and a lot of people were coming in while this match was going on. Nobody really seemed to rush to

their seats or stop to watch. I missed the actual pin while we were passing out beers, but I think they went long to cover the entrance problems.

WINNER: Justin Harper

TAYLOR MACKENZIE vs. AMAZING GRACE

----------------------------------------

Once the crowd was in and settled, out came Taylor Mackenzie and Amazing Grace came out for a match. I figured this would be another 'just there' match

like the last one, but those women pulled out all the stops and went at it like there was no tomorrow. they were flying all over the place, going out of

the ring, in the ring, but the entrance isle and once, grace used a ring attendant to springboard off of to hit Mackenzie. the ending came during a series

of reversals. Grace had her legs on the ropes for leverage, but also had her shoulders down. Taylor pulled up and Grace ate the loss.

WINNER: Taylor MacKenzie

"HEAVY MENTAL" DAVE PIETKA vs. TREVOR HEXTALL

----------------------------------------

Then we went from Flying Ladies to big bruisers, as Dave Pietka took on Trevor Hextall. I swear, when they explained to me that Hextall was a hockey goon

turned pro-wrestler, I thought it was the dumbest gimmick I'd ever heard of, but looking at him in person and up close, he definitely fit. This match was

just stiff and brutal as these guys slugged it out. the weirdest part was that you could tell these two guys were having a good time at it. Finish came

when Hextall's manager fumbled tossing Hextall a hockey stick. By the time he got it set, he turned into a low kick from Pietka, which led to a DDT into

the mat and a pin. By the end, the crowd was pretty evenly split for both guys.

WINNER: Dave Pietka

"POISON BLISS" MYRA BENEDICT vs. "SUPERFLY" SUSAN DAVIS

----------------------------------------

From here, we hit the closest thing to a low point on the card there was. "Superfly" Susan Davis got just about killed by "Poison Bliss" Myra Benedict.

Now...this wasn't a bad match. It's just...the Davis chick, clearly the fan favorite here, had no business being in the ring with Benedict. She had some

skill, and some talent, but Benedict (what kind of name is 'Poison Bliss', anyway. We had a bet going that she's secretly sad nobody asked her to the prom)

was too brutal and ruthless and she beat the girl hard, keeping her just this side of the ref stepping in to end the fight. the end, mercifully, came when

benedict tied her up in something painful looking. Davis passed out before she could submit, but it was a race there.

WINNER: Myra Benedict

BOB JABLONSKI vs. RAGE vs. JEFFREY SCHRAM

----------------------------------------

The next match had a bit of unexpected excitement to it. the other Hockey Goon, Bob Jablonski, a big black guy named Rage and a little white guy named Jeff

Schram faced off with each other in a three was dance. A few minutes into the match, some nutjob hopped the rails and tripped up Jablonski the guys in the

ring tried to continue their match while the fan got chased by security, overturning tables and stuff to keep away from them. Finally, Jeff Schram ended

the matter by hitting a lunge on the guy from the ring that sent them over the guard rail and into the crowd. From there, Jeff hammered the guy's head into

the railing to keep him down and then held him till security carried him away. By then, Jablonski had rage down and missed Jeff coming back. Jeff caught

him with a missile dropkick to the back of the head from the top rope and got the pin.

WINNER: Jeffrey Schram

THE BABE SQUAD vs. TARA AND KATIE SMITH

----------------------------------------

Once everything was cleared up from the 3-way, the Babe Squad came out to take on Tara and Kate Smith. I'll admit, I got suckered here. I assumed this was

going to be the typical 'hot babes, low skill' cheesecake catfight match. So I missed most of this while I went to the bathroom, and the concession stands.

But the last few minutes of this match that I did see sowed I was dead wrong. My buddies tell me that the Smith sisters spent the whole match fighting

back from some evil cheating by the Squad, only for the Squad to get nastier each time. the odds fell with the Squad, a handful of powder and some feet on

the ropes to take the win from the Smith Sisters. Next time, I won't leave for these ladies.

WINNER: Babe Squad

ROUGH N'READY vs. THE SONS OF CACOPHANY

----------------------------------------

Now, earlier, I thought I had seen a good, tough brawl with Hextall and Pietka. I was wrong. Rough N' ready and the Sons of Cacophony made that look like

one of our basketball court shoving matches. This was tough, high energy and high impact from bell to bell. these guys didn't quit or pause. If these guys

go at it this hard on a house show, I'd the to be in the ring with them when their on TV, or a PPV. this match was definitely the match of the night, with

Rough N' Ready ending up getting the pin when Cooper pinned Erik while Chad and Somers were trading chair shots on the floor. Surprising to all the fans,

both teams shook hands after the match.

WINNER: Rough N'Ready

GRANDMASTER TYPO CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

"HENTAI" RYU OSAWA © vs. SIMON O'NEAL

----------------------------------------

The main event was a match that we all thought wasn't going to happen. Ryu Osawa put his GMT Championship on the line against Simon O'Neal. Only, when both men got out to the ring, O'Neal announced he wasn't interested in wrestling tonight. Instead, in honor of being in Lubbock, and having the entire basketball team present (us), he and Osawa should have a chair flinging contest. Non-title, the guy who tosses the chair furthest gets the women. On cue, the College Cheerleading team came out and down to ringside. Ryu had to be calmed down from hyperventilating to accept.

So the contest starts and each guy is going to get 3 throws, alternating. Furthest distance wins. Out of deference for the champion, O'Neal says Ryu can go first. they both take their throws and the audience is generally laughing at this, while the cheerleaders are doing cheers for each guy in the ring.

O'Neal's second throw puts him in the lead, but Ryu's final throw tops that. O'Neal gets this steady, serious look in his eye and winds up for the throw like a shotputter at the Olympics. At the end, he comes around and smacks Ryu straight in the face with the chair, crumpling it an throwing Osawa back against the ring. the crowd was in utter shock as O'Neal pushed the ref for the ring and drug Osawa in, going for a quick cover as the bell rang. Osawa somehow managing to kick out of the pin popped us all out of our shock. Led by the cheerleaders, we cheered as hard and as loud as we could all the way through the match, as Ryu tried to make a comeback from that first hit, and all of O'Neal's dirty tricks that followed. We blew the roof off the place when Ryu scored a schoolboy and managed to get the pin. The cheers turned to catcalls when the cheerleaders announced that not only did O'Neal not win the match, he also forfeited on the chair-throwing contest, so Ryu won that too. They carried him out on their shoulders to end the night.

WINNER: Ryu Osawa

All in all, it was a blast of a show. I've already got tickets for the next time the MBC is through here.
