1500 fans

The round robin part of the Dream World Tag League 2006 came to a close tonight in front of a good-sized crowd at the Takikawa Youth Sports Center.

--------------------------------------------------

Match One - DEFEAT ALL MONSTER:
Jigoku Monsters Red, Black & Green
vs
Party Animal Delta, Kyuki Shonjo & Steel Cougar

A good little opener, as the Jigoku Monsters vs Fujingun rookies feud continued. Shonjo took on his familiar whipping boy role, complete with fighting spirit comebacks, while Party Animal Delta took a leadership role for his team. The biggest highlight of the match saw the Jigoku Monsters all leap off of top turnbuckles and hit simultaneous huracanranas onto their opponents.

PAD (wearing a zebra mask and outfit tonight) picked up the win, pinning Jigoku Monster Green with his Sitout Double Underhook Facebuster, the Party Crasher. The invaders didn't take the match result well, Jigoku Monster Blue joining his friends in a beatdown of the Fujingun wrestlers. They isolated Steel Cougar, hitting him with a spike tombstone piledriver. Out from the back ran Ketsu Tonaga and Ultraman Zeta to clear the ring.

As the Jigoku Monsters headed to the back, and Steel Cougar was loaded onto a stretcher, Kyuki Shonjo got on the microphone and repeated his challenge for a four-on-four match. He said if Commissioner Kazushima Yakamotu was listening, he should schedule the match, so that the Jigoku Monsters could be defeated once and for all and sent packing from Dream Fujin.

Winners: Delta/Shonjo/Cougar
Time Of Match: 8'53"

--------------------------------------------------

Match Two:
Ham Fighter Kimoto & Tommy Kamoura
vs
Jin Ketsumo[RISE] & Tsuyoshi Sai[RISE]

The duo from the Tokyo-based RISE promotion haven't won a single match in the Dream World Tag League, so were looking for a confidence booster in a non-League encounter with the European-trained Kamoura and the popular masked tribute to the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters baseball team. The fans were vocal in their support for Kimoto, and his ringside companion, the Fighters' mascot Brisky the Bear.

The RISE boys didn't get their confidence booster, because this was little more than a squash match. Kamoura did most of the work, using his unique brand of European-style offence, like European uppercuts, rolling necksnaps and wacky mat holds. Kimoto continues to be a walking gimmick, doing his usual baseball-themed spots ("safe" chops, baseball slide dropkicks etc) and little more. He did show off a new move, Brisky the Bear throwing him a giant-sized baseball glove, which he used to put a "claw" hold on Sai!

Kamoura picked up the win for his team, pinning Sai with a brainbuster.

Winners: Kamoura/Kimoto
Time of Match: 10'21"

--------------------------------------------------

Match Three:
Hasselhoff SE, Fuego Tigre jr[ILL] & El Hijo del Super Macho[ILL]
vs
HERO Ishikawa, Wasai Thrillblade & Apollo Kid III

This match was pure lucha libre. It had the pacing of a lucha libre match, with the leather jacket-wearing, sunglasses-clad heels starting off with a major beatdown of the Internacional Lucha Libre pair and the David Hasselhoff-mimmicking crowd favourite.

The MEGA Gurentai team were in typical dickish rudo form, using lots of cheap tactics and isolating Hasselhoff SE for some major punishment early on. One awesome spot saw Ishikawa lift EHdSM into an elevated surfboard and Thrillblade and Apollo come flying in with springboard dropkicks, hitting EHdSM in the head from opposite sides. Amazing!

The tecnicos came close to winning on a couple of occasions, such as when Tigre jr trapped Apollo Kid in a rocking horse submission hold, with no rescue in sight. But Thrillblade came in and made the save just in the nick of time. The end saw Ishikawa nail EHdSM with the HERO's Welcome and get the 1-2-3, as Thrillblade and Apollo Kid held off his teammates.

Winners: MEGA Gurentai
Time Of Match: 12'07"

--------------------------------------------------

Match Four - Dream World Tag League Group A:
Tate Monroe & Yoshino Nanami [6]
vs
Monkey Monk & Funky Monkey [Monkey Pro] [0]

Can you say squash? The Monkey Pro comedy wrestlers haven't stood a chance in the League, and that didn't change tonight. Monkey Monk showed the odd glimpse of wrestling skill, but for the most part he and Funky Monkey were more interested in goofing around. Independent champion Tate Monroe wasn't in the mood for it (is he ever?), suplexing both Monkeys multiple times. Nanami didn't get much time in the ring, mainly because the match didn't last long. Monroe easily finished off Funky Monkey (he of the gorilla suit and disco gears), bridging a northern lights suplex for the 1-2-3.

Winners: Monroe/Walker [8pts]
Time Of Match: 7'15"

--------------------------------------------------

Match Five - Dream World Tag League Group B:
Griffin James & Ryoga Miike [8]
vs
British Steel & Maiden Japan [6]

The first really important match of the night pitted the Fujingun team of James and Miike against the masked rockers, the Metal Gods. The latter duo were most desperate for the win, which would see them qualify outright for the Tag League semifinals. James and Miike knew they were already through, so could have been forgiven for mailing it in, but instead they worked their asses off and put on a great match with their mullet wigged opponents.

The teamwork from both sides was excellent, with lots of tagging in and out and combining for doubleteam moves. The Metal Gods used their air guitar dives, but had their Headbanger's Fall move (a headbanging falling headbutt to the groin) broken up by James. As for James and Miike, they once again showed off their Yakuza kick/low dropkick combo, as well as a powerbomb/moonsault combo.

Unfortunately Maiden Japan screwed up an Asai moonsault outside the ring, only glancing Miike and landing badly on the floor. To his credit he stayed in the match, but looked to be legitimately in a lot of pain.

With Maiden Japan sent out of the ring, James decked British Steel with a devastating running elbow, then Miike followed up with a frog splash for the 1-2-3. Afterwards, Maiden Japan received medical attention, and appeared to be hurt badly.

Winners: James/Miike [10pts]
Time Of Match: 10'37"

--------------------------------------------------

Match Six - Dream World Tag League Group B:
MIURA & Super Darkness Panda [4]
vs
Elvis Sunday & Ketsu Tonaga [1]

With the Metal Gods losing, the 666 duo of MIURA and Panda knew they had a chance to force a playoff for the second semifinal spot in Group B, if they could beat the pairing of the experienced Flyin' Hawaiian and the rookie sensation Tonaga.

There was actually nothing wrong with this match, but something just seemed a little off. The crowd never got into it, which killed the atmosphere. Tonaga and Panda seemed motivated, but Tonaga is very green and Panda just isn't that good. MIURA and Sunday possess a lot of talent, but neither really seemed motivated at all. The end result was a patchy, uninteresting match, which was won by MIURA and Panda via a MIURA pinfall on Tonaga, following a running shotei palmstrike.

Winners: MIURA/Panda [6pts]
Time Of Match: 9'14"

MAIN EVENT - Dream World Tag League Group A:
Usagi Yoshida & Ryoji Mifune [6]
vs
Darkness Kitty! & Shadows [8]

And so we came to the final round robin match of the 2006 Dream World Tag League, and what a great match to finish with. It was do or die for the Special X team, knowing that they could force a three-way tiebreaker with a win, or would be eliminated with a loss.

With all members of both factions in and round the ring (666's MIURA and Panda and Special X's Kamen Kanoji at ringside), this match was full of interference. In a rarity for Dream Fujin matches, there was actually a lot of blood spilled and great use of weapons by 666.

By the end of the match, Yoshida and Mifune were both wearing crimson masks, and Shadows had a big rip in the side of his mask, which he too was bleeding through. Yoshida and Shadows were battling, Yoshida countering a superkick and taking the masked man down into his crossface hold, the Psyence Facelock! The crowd was amped up as referee Uncle Dai was down on the mat, asking the question of Shadows... but suddenly he was yanked from the ring by the legs, courtesy of MIURA! Uncle Dai started yelling at MIURA, but with the official distracted, Super Darkness Panda entered the ring with the black 666 chair... and clobbered Yoshida!

Yoshida staggered to his feet, bloody and dazed, as Panda lined him up for another chairshot... but suddenly Kanoji came flying in with a springboard dropkick, blasting the chair right into Panda's masked face! That sent Panda tumbling from the ring, into Dai and MIURA... before Kanoji went flying out onto the three of them with a corkscrew moonsault!

With MIURA, Panda and Uncle Dai recovering at ringside, Kitty! came back into the ring. He set up Yoshida for the DK Suplex, but Yoshida escaped and transitioned Kitty! into a rear waistlock. But Kitty! countered with a mule kick to the groin, then nailed the Cat Nap. He made the cover, but there was no referee, so Kitty! rolled out, dragging Uncle Dai back into the ring and telling him to make the count, which he did. But Yoshida kicked out!

Uncle Dai was still sore, so he rolled away to recover, as Shadows joined in the fun. Kitty! held Yoshida as Shadows took hold of the 666 chair... swinging... and Yoshida ducked! But luckily for 666, Shadows stopped just short of blasting his team leader. Relieved, he turned around... but was suddenly blasted with a kick by Mifune, which sent the chair crashing into his own face! Kitty! charged at Mifune, who ducked the lariat, picking up the chair... BAM! Chairshot for Kitty! The 666 leader was dazed, and suddenly sent from the ring as Yoshida lariated him over the top rope, going for the ride as well himself!

Mifune, the former garbage wrestler, grinned maniacally as he looked at the dented chair in his hands... then laid it on the canvas, dragging Shadows up... and then planting him headfirst onto it with his Drill The Hole piledriver! Uncle Dai crawled over as Mifune made the cover... 1-2-3!

The fans, who had showed a lot of support for both teams, applauded the result, as Yoshida and Kanoji joined Mifune in the ring, two out of three wearing oozing masks of blood.

Winners: Yoshida/Mifune [8pts]
Time Of Match: 21'05"

Overall comments:

- So, the final standings after the round-robin portion of the Dream World Tag League 2006 are:

Group A:
1= Usagi Yoshida & Ryoji Mifune 8pts
1= Darkness Kitty! & Shadows 8pts
1= Tate Monroe & Yoshino Nanami 8pts
4. Party Animal Delta & Ultraman Zeta 4pts
5. Fuego Tigre jr & El Hijo del Super Macho [ILL] 2pts
6. Monkey Monk & Funky Monkey [Monkey Pro] 0pts

Group B:
1. Griffin James & Ryoga Miike 10pts
2= British Steel & Maiden Japan 6pts
2= MIURA & Super Darkness Panda 6pts
4. HERO Ishikawa & Apollo Kid III 5pts
5. Elvis Sunday & Ketsu Tonaga 1pts
6. Jin Ketsumo & Tsuyoshi Sai [RISE] 0pts

- That means both groups are going to need tiebreakers to decide their top two. The only team guaranteed to go through is that of James and Miike.

In Group A, a three-way tiebreaker match has been ordered for Friday at the Chitose Sports Center. After their bloody battle tonight, the teams of Yoshida/Mifune and Kitty!/Shadows will step into the ring together again, but this time with the duo of Monroe/Nanami added to the mix.

In Group B another tiebreaker will also take place on Friday night, between the Metal Gods and MIURA/Panda team.

- The teams taking part in the tiebreaker matches will have to wrestle twice in one night on Friday, with the semifinals taking place on the same night. That gives James/Miike a decided advantage, since they'll only wrestle once, and will be fresh for their semifinal.
