Dream Fujin Friday July 28 Chitose Sports Center 1500 fans There was much anticipation for tonight's show, as the finalists of the 2006 Dream World Tag League were to be decided in a series of four matches, with two tiebreakers being necessary after several teams finished on the same points. -------------------------------------------------- Match One: Ham Fighter Kimoto vs Steel Cougar An average opener, this match was mostly notable for the crowd response to Kimoto. Since making his debut on this tour, the baseball-themed wrestler has had a lot of fan support wherever he has gone (admittedly, his appearances are confined to Hokkaido, so Fighter-friendly crowds). As with his previous matches, Kimoto was accompanied by Fighter mascot Brisky the Bear, and he used his baseball-gimmick moves, with plenty of baseball slides thrown in, and for the second time, the giant baseball glove-assisted "clawhold". Kimoto picked up the rather easy win by pinning Cougar after his "Home Run" move, which is basically a double chop to the chest with a batting swing wind up. Winners: Kimoto Time Of Match: 6'17" -------------------------------------------------- Match Two - Dream World Tag League Group A tiebreaker: Usagi Yoshida & Ryoji Mifune vs Darkness Kitty! & Shadows vs Tate Monroe & Yoshino Nanami It was strange seeing wrestlers like Monroe, Kitty! and Yoshida this early on the card, but it was necessary to give the winners a rest before the semifinals later in the show. The rules here were that whichever team lost the fall would be eliminated, and the other two teams would move on to the semifinals. The hatred between the three teams was plain to see as soon as they stepped into the ring. Yoshida and Mifune were bandaged up as a result of their bloody match with Kitty! and Shadows two nights ago, and accompanied to the ring by their Special X teammate Kamen Kanoji. The two other teams were alone - Kitty! and Shadow without their 666 teammates who were due to wrestle in the next match, but sporting a huge 666 banner and a pair of black steel chairs. After their war of words over recent weeks, Yoshida and Monroe went chest-to-chest before the introductions, the crowd "Ooohhh"ing in anticipation of an early flare up. Words were exchanged, but nothing more. The match rules were that one representative from each team was in the ring at the same time, and could tag out to his teammate at any time. This made for a sometimes confusing match, and one that basically boiled down to lots of broken up pinfalls. While it would have made sense to let a pinfall happen on an opposing team (since two teams advance), egos got in the way of that, with all three teams vying to be the one getting the pinfall. The match broke down into an all-in brawl on several occasions, as the fighting spilled out of the ring, and the 666 team once again brought blatant cheapshots into play, including a few chair-assisted spots. The final moments broke down to Yoshida and Monroe alone in the ring, with all others either recovering or fighting at ringside. Yoshida set up Monroe for his trademark tombstone piledriver, but Monroe fought out of it and took the Special X leader down into an anklelock. He had it locked on in the middle of the ring as Darkness Kitty! entered the ring with one of the black 666 chairs... and waffled Monroe! Uncle Dai began admonishing him, as Yoshida locked Monroe in the Psyence Crossface. It looked like it might be over for Monroe, but Kitty! suddenly struck with another chairshot, this one to Yoshida! Uncle Dai had seen enough, calling for the bell and disqualifying Kitty! Some of the fans booed this decision, and Kitty! was furious. He threated to chairshot Uncle Dai, as the fans screamed in protest, but Mifune intervened, dropkicking Kitty! from the ring. He then tended to the laid out Yoshida, as Nanami did the same with Monroe. Outside the ring, Kitty! stormed off in a fury, Shadows tagging along behind him. Winners: Yoshida/Mifune & Monroe/Nanami Time of Match: 16'33" -------------------------------------------------- Match Three - Dream World Tag League Group B tiebreaker: British Steel & Maiden Japan vs MIURA & Super Darkness Panda Our next match featured the other half of 666, up against the popular Metal Gods. Kitty! didn't resurface, but Shadows came out to support MIURA and Panda from ringside. The Metal Gods came to the ring to their usual theme music, "Metal Gods" by Judas Priest, air guitaring along with some of the fans. MIURA and Panda were in a real ass-kicking mood, as they put a massive beatdown on Maiden Japan. Maiden played face in peril well, showing good fighting spirit and the inevitable hot tag was followed by a blitz of gimmicky doubleteam moves from the Metal Gods. They hit stereo corkscrew planchas, followed by the "crowd surf" (where Steel used an inverted crucifix lift to throw Maiden onto MIURA), and finally the Headbanger's Fall on Panda, but MIURA broke it up. The end came with British Steel being sent from the ring, and Maiden Japan falling to a shotei (MIURA) and German suplex (Panda) combo, after which MIURA locked him in his Sickle Hold, which he calls the Burn Cycle, for the submission victory. Winners: MIURA/Panda Time Of Match: 12'07" -------------------------------------------------- Match Four: Tommy Kamoura & Hasselhoff SE vs Kamen Kanoji & Wasai Thrillblade Kamoura and Hasselhoff SE have teamed together before, but it was strange to see members of the rival Special X (Kanoji) and MEGA Gurentai (Thrillblade) teaming together. There were problems right from the start, Thrillblade showing plenty of attitude towards his teammate. Talk about a contrast - Thrillblade with his leather jacket, sunglasses and punk attitude, and Kanoji with his tuxedo-themed bodysuit and black mask with pink hearts over the eyes, and his goofy lady-loving attitude. Kamoura and Hasselhoff SE combined together well, Kamoura providing the ground moves and European-style skills and Hasslehoff throwing in the aerial moves as well as playing to the crowd as only a guy in a David Hasselhoff mask and "stuffed" red speedo trunks can. Hasselhoff and Kanoji worked some comedy, vying for the attention of a pretty ringside female fan. Kanoji got the microphone and began to serenade her, which upset Hasselhoff, so he began to "grind" her with his ample groin. Not to be outdone, Kanoji produced (very fake) flowers from his sleeve and gave them to the girl. Hasslehoff began looking around for something to give to the girl... but he couldn't find anything, so he reached into his trunks... drawing panicked screams from some of the female fans. But before Hasslehoff SE could do what he was threatening to do, Uncle Dai came out and slapped both him and Kanoji on the head, the elderly official telling both men off and ordering them to reenter the ring. Kanoji and Hasslehoff did just that, both of their heads hanging low in shame, Uncle Dai standing between them... and suddenly all three broke into a dance! Hasslehoff SE doing the Running Man, Kanoji shaking his booty bigtime, and Uncle Dai a little disco dancing! The crowd loved it, cheering like crazy! This too was broken up though, as Kamoura and Thrillblade stomped in and slapped their respective partners on the head, before sending them from the ring. From there the match became serious again, Thrillblade and Kamoura battling through a series of nearfalls, until eventually Kanoji and Hasslehoff became involved again. The key moment was when Kanoji accidentally struck Thrillblade with an elbow. Thrillblade tried to retaliate, but Kanoji ducked his lariat, and Thrillblade fell victim to a rolling lariat from Kamoura, which got the three count. Winners: Kamoura/Hasselhoff Time Of Match: 9'15" -------------------------------------------------- Match Five: Party Animal Delta, Ultraman Zeta, Fuego Tigre jr[ILL], El Hijo del Super Macho[ILL], Monkey Monk[Monkey Pro] & Funky Monkey[Monkey Pro] vs HERO Ishikawa, Apollo Kid III, Elvis Sunday, Ketsu Tonaga, Jin Ketsumo[RISE] & Tsuyoshi Sai[RISE] Featuring the six teams from the Dream World Tag League not involved in tonight's tiebreakers/semifinals, this 12-man tag match was fought elimination style, with eliminations either over the top rope or by pinfall or submission. The action was too complicated to describe, but the eliminations were as such: 1- Sai, pinned by Funky Monkey with a roll up (0'22") 2- Monkey Monk, over the top by Ishikawa (1'48") 3- Tonaga, over the top by PAD (2'51") 4- Ketsumo, over the top by EHdSM (3'10") 5- Funky Monkey, submitted by Apollo Kid crabhold (3'47") 6- EHdSM, over the top by Ishikawa (5'21") 7- Sunday, over the top by Tigre jr (6'29") 8- Zeta, over the top by Ishikawa (8'11") 9- Tigre jr, over the top by Ishikawa (8'25") 10- Apollo Kid, pinned by PAD with a roll up (10'12") 11- PAD, pinned by Ishikawa with the HERO's Welcome (12'28") Winner: HERO Ishikawa Time Of Match: 12'28" -------------------------------------------------- Match Six - Dream World Tag League semifinal: Usagi Yoshida & Ryoji Mifune (Group A) vs MIURA & Super Darkness Panda (Group B) After several weeks of round robin matches, and two tiebreakers already tonight, the first semifinal of the 2006 Dream World Tag League was finally about to take place. Special X against 666! Yet again Darkness Kitty! was nowhere to be seen as the two teams made their way to the ring, but Shadows accompanied his teammates. Kanoji did likewise with Special X. Both teams had already wrestled once tonight, but looked relatively fresh for it. The importance of the match was reflected by the cautiousness of both teams early on, with the first few minutes consisting of mat wrestling, the best exchanges coming between Mifune and MIURA. MIURA got a big advantage after Mifune ran into a kouppo kick, and after that he went to work on Mifune's midsection, no doubt setting him up for the Burn Cycle (sickle hold). As well as using kneedrops and strikes to the ribs and midsection, MIURA hit a brutal double-knee gutbuster out of a fireman's carry. Finally MIURA applied the Burn Cycle, but Yoshida made the save. Mifune fought back with a series of kicks and a backdrop suplex, then made the tag to Yoshida. The former Independent champ showed his great speed, breaking out his awesome multiple-revolution corbata and hitting a pescado onto MIURA. MIURA countered a top rope dive by dropkicking Yoshida out of the air, then called Panda in, the 666 duo sending Mifune crashing to the floor, before hitting a series of running blows to Yoshida in a corner. But they went to the well once too many times, Yoshida moving out of the way of a running kouppo kick by MIURA, before planting Panda with the Psyborg Driver (tombstone piledriver), MIURA just managing to make the save. Now it was the turn of Special X to do some doubleteaming, on Panda. Yoshida applied his infamous crotch claw, and when Panda dropped his hands, Mifune blasted him with a spinning backfist, but it only got 2 1/2! Yoshida applied the Psyence Crossface, but MIURA came in to save. MIURA and Mifune battled, MIURA ducking a kick and planting Mifune with an overhead Uranage suplex for 2 3/4! MIURA set up Mifune for his praying style jumping piledriver (a holdover from his days as a wrestling monk), but Yoshida broke it up with a lariat. He tried to do the same to Panda, but Panda ducked and hit a DDT. He lifted Yoshida, going for a powerbomb, but Yoshida countered, taking him down into the Psyence Crossface. With Mifune holding back MIURA, there was noone to make the save, and Panda was forced to tap out. Shadows stormed the ring and began stomping Yoshida, which drew Kanoji back into the ring, the masked loverboy dropkicking Shadows from the ring as the fans cheered. Special X stood victorious in the ring as the 666 team members retreated, Yoshida and Mifune knowing that they were through to the League final! Winners: Yoshida/Mifune Time Of Match: 14'16" -------------------------------------------------- MAIN EVENT - Dream World Tag League semifinal: Griffin James & Ryoga Miike (Group B) vs Tate Monroe & Yoshino Nanami (Group A) Fresh and ready to go, James and Miike had their war faces on as they came to the ring, Miike waving a large Fujingun banner. Monroe and Nanami, a much newer combination, were out next, Monroe wearing his Independent title belt. Early on it was established that if Monroe and Nanami were to win, their best chance was to pin Miike. Because whenever James entered the fray, he owned both of them. Miike, on the other hand was overwhelmed by Monroe's matwork and Nanami's hard strikes and high-flying. At around the six minute mark, Miike (the former Crazy Bastard Cop) flipped out of a Monroe release German suplex, landing on his feet, and went to town on the Independent champ with kicks. But Monroe countered with a dragon screw legwhip. Outside the ring, Nanami and James battled, Nanami taking the advantage by moving out of the way of an elbow and droptoeholding James onto the ring railing, then hitting his "Dick Kick" as James laid draped across the barrier. With James now recovering in the crowd, Nanami joined Monroe in the ring, and they went to work on Miike. Miike made a small comeback, sending Monroe from the ring with a spin kick, then launching onto him with a big pescado! James had made his way back into the ringside area, and he followed up on Monroe by powerbombing him on the floor! Brutal! James rolled Monroe back in and covered for 2. He dragged him up, bludgeoning the Independent champion with stiff elbowshots, then hitting a brainbuster. He tagged Miike, who relished the chance to nail Monroe with stiff kicks, before hitting a delayed vertical suplex, then a frogsplash, Nanami making the save. Miike tried more kicks, but Monroe dumped him with a capture suplex, both men staying down for a while, the fans chanting "FU-JIN-GUN" in support of Miike. Miike made the tag to James, who cut off Monroe, laying into the Independent champion with elbows and a powerslam. A sitout powerbomb got 2 for James. Monroe made a comeback, dumping James with a head-spiking dragon suplex! Monroe made the hot tag to Nanami, who charged headfirst... into a Yakuza kick! James went for another Yakuza kick, but Nanami did his amazing Matrix dodge of the boot, followed by a back thrust kick and a spinning facejam legdrop. Nanami then went for a missile dropkick, but James countered with a sitout powerbomb, followed by an Ego Crusher (stunner) for 2. James hit more elbows, then lifted Nanami up top. But Nanami blocked with a kick to the face, then hit a top rope cross body for 2. Nanami lifted James and wailed into him with stiff chest chops, which did little more than make James angry. He answered back with elbows, but Nanami ducked one, hitting the ropes and striking with a running shotei. This knocked James down, but he showed FIGHTING SPIRIT in bouncing back up, so Nanami went for another one... but was levelled by a roaring elbow! James made the cover... and Monroe made the save! In came Miike, meaning all four men were in. James and Monroe took their fight outside the ring, while Miike hit Nanami with his John Woo dropkick (making double gun hand gestures as he does it), then the Ryoga Special (cobra clutch Russian legsweep into submission w/body scissors). Nanami was in a lot of trouble, but struggled over and made the ropes! Miike set up for his Tiger Driver, the Shine Tamura! Driver, but Monroe came in and made the save, blindsiding Miike. James came back in too, stopping Monroe with a Yakuza kick, then rebounding and lining him up... but Monroe sidestepped the Fujingun Stinger, sending James sliding under the bottom rope out to the floor. Monroe went out after him, throwing James into the ring railing. Back in the ring, Miike set up for another Ryoga Special, but before he could get the cobra clutch applied, Nanami spun out of the hold. He tried a shotei, but Miike ducked it, then whipped Nanami into the ropes. But instead of just running, Nanami performed a one-handed cartwheel, rebounded and decked Miike with a Yakuza kick! He dragged him back up and drilled Miike with his over-the-shoulder sitout tombstone piledriver, the Blinding Driver, covering for the 3-count. Winners: Monroe/Nanami Time Of Match: 18'37" -------------------------------------------------- Overall comments: - The 2006 Dream World Tag League final is now set, and it's the Special X duo of Usagi Yoshida and Ryoji Mifune up against the relatively-untested pairing of Tate Monroe and Yoshino Nanami. This match-up is deliciously mouth-watering, given the war of words that Monroe and Yoshida have engaged in over recent months. Yoshida has officially made a challenge for the Independent title, which so far has gone unanswered, so this match will serve as a definite preview of any future Monroe-Yoshida title match. - The tour finale, with the Dream World Tag League final as the main event, takes place tomorrow night (Saturday July 29) at the Tsukisamu Green Dome in Sapporo. With a capacity of around 6000, this Dome show could see the biggest crowd for a Dream Fujin show in many a month. - The last time Dream Fujin ran in the Tsukisamu Green Dome, Usagi Yoshida won the vacant Independent title, beating Griffin James in a tournament final. © Dream Fujin, 2006. |
