# Following two hardfought matches at the Chitose Sports Center last night, Independent champion Tate Monroe was in good spirits when he spoke to reporters.

"What a tremendous night it turned out to be, capped off by yet another nail in the coffin of Griffin James' over-inflated ego. But really, I don't want to talk about old news... the biggest story surely had to be the outstanding performance of my partner tonight, Yoshino Nanami. In fact I may have actually mispoken earlier when I referred to him as a diamond in the rough, because truthfully I don't think that term does Yoshino justice. What we saw tonight is a rising star in this company, one that was left to wallow in undercard irrelevance for far too long while others less deserving hogged the spotlight. Tonight I believe we saw his emergence as a true force for Dream Fujin, and personally I take great satisfaction in the small part I played in allowing his criminally-overlooked talent to flourish."

- So presumably his confidence level is high going into the final match of the Dream World Tag League?

"Absolutely, and I think with good reason. Ever since I came to Dream Fujin, I have been burdened with partners seemingly incapable of carrying their share of a tag team match. Eric Dane, Elvis Sunday, even Tyrone Walker, and the list goes on. There have been so many matches where I've had to carry the team on my back, unable to count on their support. But yet, even under those circumstances, I was able to excel. So now, for the first time with a partner I can trust, a partner who I know will rise to the occasion, I ask you... how could I possibly not be confident?"

- One stumbling block remains of course, the Special X team led by the man who recently issued a challenge to Monroe for his Independent Super-Lightweight Title -- Usagi Yoshida.

"Yes of course, Yoshida and his much-vaunted challenge. It seems everyone is impatiently awaiting my response to this challenge, so I won't keep anyone in the dark any longer... no. No, I do not accept, and I'll tell you why. Usagi Yoshida has been trying to get under my skin for months now. He has attempted to bait me time and time again with his immature insults and disrespectful jibes. He has belittled my achievements, denigrated my abilities, and poured scorn on the validity of my championship reign... all over some ancient history that no one even remembers.

Well let me make something quite clear to him right now -- if he expects me to award him a shortcut to a title shot just because he likes to run his mouth, then he's very sadly mistaken. I earned this title... _my_ title... through hard work and inring excellence. I consistently dominated the competition here in Dream Fujin through my performances, and required no shortcuts to do so. That, it seems, is far beyond the ability of Usagi Yoshida to emulate, so instead he resorts to this, and hopes I'll take the bait. Well like I said, he's very greatly mistaken.

I have no fear of wrestling Usagi Yoshida. I'm a fighting champion, I have and will continue to defend my championship against any and all challengers Dream Fujin deems worthy. But I will not... repeat, I WILL NOT stoop so low as to reward an undeserving loudmouthed lout. This championship deserves more than that. This company deserves more than that. _I_ deserve more than that. So I suggest that if Yoshisa wishes to challenge for my title any time soon, then he proves his worth in the ring, not with his mouth. And until that unlikely event occurs -- and rest assured, it will certainly not be happening tonight -- then I'll just have to, how did he put it... keep the title warm for him? [laughs]. Yes, of course. And perhaps while I'm doing that I can also 'shine it up real nice' for him too, possibly even 'kiss the belt goodbye?' And any other tired cliche he'd care to pull from his dusty collection. Pathetic."
