[MBC] HOUSE SHOW REPORT DECADE OF DELUSION TOUR July 20th, 2006 at: AT@T Center in San Antonio, TX DUDE! I just got back from the MBC show in San-An and didn't see anyone else saying anything about it, so I figured I'd send in what we saw. It was a bitchin' show and if some of these matches show up on TV or PPV, it'll be awesome. Before the show, my buds and I were hangin' out back, trying to get some autographs. Osawa and Crawford were supernice, signing things, but you could tell they were in a hurry, so none of us pestered 'em for more than the signings. My wrestling fanboy life was made when Team Canada marked out at my asking Bob Jablonski to sign a hockey puck I got off Ebay that he'd scored a game-winning goal with. They took our pictures to keep. After that, the rest of the night was just icing, man. Inside, the Arena was pretty much full. they didn't post it as a sell-out, but looking around, there were only a few, scattered, individual seats here and there. Before the show, there was a cool "History of the MBC" video shown that had a just downright rockin' soundtrack. It got the crowd pumped and ready for the show. MARIKO SHIMADA vs. "ARMAGEDDON" GEORGIA CHURCH ---------------------------------------- The first match was basic, but still pretty good. Mariko Shimada just literally dismantled "Armaggedon" Georgia Church. It made me want to see Shimada in with Smith or somebody else, just to see if she really is that good. WINNER: Mariko Shimada JOHNATHAN "THE BEAST" CABLE vs. "D-DAY" HARLEY SANDERS ---------------------------------------- The next match was announced as a "House of Bastards rematch". John "Beast" Cable finally got his hands on D-Day Harley Sanders. We all got hella laughs when Sanders had his whole junk area taped up, outside his tights. He had a pillow over that, then some more tape. Cable saw it, heard the audience laughing and went on a tear, ripping into Sanders. D-Day finally got smart and used the pillow to block, but that put Cable over the edge. He tore the tape off and drug the poor guy outside, dropping him on the guardrail to a 10 count before bringing him back in and getting the pin. WINNER: Johnathan Cable After the match, the trainer came down and gave Sandeers back his pillow, then loaded him up and carried him out. The crowd was split between heckling and trying to be supportive. We offered to let him come have a mellow with us, which got a smile from one of the guys with Sanders. PSYCHO DRIVER TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH HOT COMMODITIES © vs. LEATHER AND LACE ---------------------------------------- Once he was out of the way, Leather and Lace were brought out to fight for the Psycho Driver titles against Hot Commodities. Susan Davis was real shocked when a ringside fan had a sign with her picture that said "Still the Hottest Babe In Wrestling". She signed it for the guy. When Hot Commodities came out, Holly Hotbody saw the sign and started to laugh at it. The guy turned the sign over and had one for Holly. It had her picture and said "Most Infected Babe In Wrestling". Holly and Grace tried to get the sign from the guy, but Nina and Susan drug them back into the ring to start the match. The match was all over the place. Nina and Susan would start ripping Hot Commodities apart, only for one of them to do some cheating and allow the girl in the ring to get back in charge. The end here came with Grace pulling Nina off the apron and fighting with her outside the ring. She drug it into the audience. When the Wrecking Crew moved in to contain the area, Grace used the distraction to handcuff Nina to a guard, then clocked him with a chair. She made it back to the ring in time to help Holly take out Susan and get the pin. The crowd was pissed, and made sure the champs knew it. WINNER: Hot Commodities WINSTON SCHRAM vs. CHAD GRIMSSON ---------------------------------------- The next match was Winston Schram taking on Chad Grimsson. with two of the biggest men in the MBC in one ring, everybody expected a primo slugfest. To some extent, it was. These two guys would hammer at each other or toss one another around, then all the sudden, out of nowhere, Schram would lock on some hold and try to pull Chad apart. The end came when Schram had Chad on the mat. He did this funky move where he stood on Chad's knees, slapped on a Full Nelson and pulled up until Chad gave up. Now I want to see both teams throw down. WINNER: Winston Schram GRANDMASTER TYPO CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE MATCH "HENTAI" RYU OSAWA © vs. "HELLRAISER" TOM LANDIS ---------------------------------------- Tom Landis then came out to face Ryu Osawa. My buddies and I were leading the cheering for Landis, figuring that this would be the first time in a long time a title changed hands on a house show. Landis just beat the hell out of the Champ, but the little dude just kept getting back up and taking and dishing more out. In the end, Osawa outlasted landis and hit the Ecchi Trigger Finger for the pin. WINNER: Ryu Osawa Following the title match, we had intermission. Scud came out with the t-shirt cannon, but only got 2 shots off. His second shot into the crowd earned him return fire from a bunch of guys who managed to sneak paintball guns in. He took the first shot in the groin, the second between the eyes. By the time the Wrecking Crew moved into place, he was a downed, colorful mess. The rest of intermission we got to watch the ring crew clean the paint off the mat. "HEAVY MENTAL" DAVE PIETKA vs. "THE FANTASY" BRETT YOUNG ---------------------------------------- Following intermission, "Heavy Mental" Dave Pietka fought "Fantasy" Brett Young. This was almost the quickest match of the night when Young made the mistake of acknowledging a group of screaming girls at ringside. Pietka capitalized by kicking Young inna chongs and dropping him with a DDT and going for a pin. From there, Brett fought an uphill battle to get back to even footing, and while he came close to getting back and even taking the match, Pietka just proved to get too much, too early, and stayed lucky for the win. bet next time they fight, Brett takes it because he doesn't get suckered like that. WINNER: Dave Pietka TEAM CANADA and KARI STEVENS vs. FURY and MYRA BENEDICT ---------------------------------------- An intergender 6-Person tag match saw Fury and Myra Benedict taking on Kari Stevens and our favorites of the evening, Team Canada. I was personally disappointed Fury didn't have Ami Tran on their team, mostly because Tran's hot, and Benedict might be a hell of a wrestler, but she ain't Tran. Anyway, this match started out wild and broke down into chaos. I can't remember if the bell ever really rang to start the match, but one minute I was watching Bobby Jablonski try his best to decapitate Spice, while Rage was working on tearing Trevor Hextall in two, when we realize that Stevens and Benedict are in the ring. The crowd pretty much realized it all at the same time and looked, just in time to see Benedict spike Stevens on her head, then cradle her for the pin. Later, a buddy of mine said he watched the two go at it most of the match and it was a hell of a technical affair. Definitely the best match of the night. WINNER: Fury and Myra Benedict WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE MATCH "TORNADO" TARA SMITH © vs. TAYLOR MACKENZIE ---------------------------------------- Then we went from a hottie and a sorta hottie doing technical ring work, to a hottie and the object of Slush's affection doing technical ring work. If the Schram match was a submission clinic, then TAYLOR Mackenzie challenging for Tara Smith's women's title was a clinic in old fashioned technical wrestling. right up until Holly Hotbody ran out and pulled Tara Smith out of the ring and slammed her into the guardrail, getting the DQ victory for Tara. While we started a "Run! It's VD" chant, Mackenzie showed the class to chase Hotbody off, then checked on Tara. WINNER: Tara Smith SMASH BASH CRUCIFY CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE MATCH "THE SHOTGUN" STAN CRAWFORD vs. RONAN BENEDICT ---------------------------------------- The main event saw Ronan Benedict taking on Stan Crawford for the SBC Title. This was the brawl we thought we'd get from Schram and Grimsson, and then some. I know on the net people are complaining about Crawford being old, but damn, that old guy could kick the ass of half the roster, and hold his own with the rest. I dunno who's gonna take the title off him, but tonight, even though he held his own, it wasn't Benedict. I will say that Benedict looked better than I thought he did when he started in MBC. Be cool to see what he does from here out. Finish came with Crawford drilling Benedict with the 12-guage. WINNER: Stan Crawford After the main event, most people starting leaving, but some of us hung out, waiting for the crush to pass. Schrams, Crawford, Ryu, Grimsson trio and Susan Davis all came out and did some autographs and talked with some people. It was pretty cool, and a nice gesture. Makes me look bforward to the next time the MBC is in town. |
