UWF SOLD; RAMPAGE TO RETURN IN MARCH ------------------------------------ FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: AP SPORTSWIRE: TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA - Saturday, February 17, 2007 In a press conference held this afternoon it was announced that the Universal Wrestling Federation, a multi-million dollar wrestling organization operated out of Toronto, Ontario Canada, was officially sold to the Scott Corporation. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Making the announcement and representing the Scott Corporation was William Kendall, the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer for the UWF. Mr. Kendall made the announcement in front of around sixty journalists from both the mainstream press as well as the wrestling community. The announcement had been forthcoming since noon the day previous, when the deal was finalized and ratified by the UWF board of directors. The UWF was forced to suspend operations in June of 2006, following a Night Of Champions television special which featured a controversial incident in which professional wrestler Brett Greene was doused in alcohol and set ablaze by rival wrestler Trey DaMann. At the time, the network carrying the special as well as all weekly UWF programming broke the deal, citing several hundred responses from viewers as the primary reason. Mr. Kendall announced that Saturday Night Rampage, the two hour flagship program for the UWF, will return to television on March the 3rd with a new timeslot on the Scott Corporation owned BLITZ Channel. The return edition of Rampage will feature two matches originally scheduled for the Luck Of The Draw pay-per-view event, a triple threat match for the World Heavyweight Championship featuring "The Last American Badass" Alex Martinez against Luke Kinsey and Scott "Hotspot" Daniels; and an I Quit Match between "Mr. Excitement" Alex Extreme and Jason Keening. A third hour of programming, UWF Meltdown, will not return; however a new program named Frenzy will begin airing later in March 2007. It was confirmed by Mr. Kendall that there will be a reshaping of the talent roster, and that talk of contract buyouts and retirements have taken place. "An eight month layoff is tough to deal with in any work field, but in wrestling it can be even more difficult for our talented performers. It is unfair to force these talents to simply sit at home and wait for an uncertain future. Some members of the UWF roster inquired about being released from their contracts, others were approached by management." When asked about the championship structure within the UWF, Mr. Kendall informed the assembled press that a number of changes will be made to better reflect the updated roster. The World Tag Team Championship will be merged with the North American Tag Team Championship in a best of three match series between the two current championship teams; The World Cruiserweight Championship will be unified in a match with the World Heavyweight Champion at a date to be named, and the two divisions will be merged into an overall men's singles division; The Women's Tag Team Championship will be discontinued, and replaced with a Women's North American Championship. ABOUT THE UWF Founded in March of 1996, the Universal Wrestling Federation quickly expanded past it's original purpose as a regional federation to the Global Wrestling Federation when all other branches of the GWF collapsed. Over the course of the next decade, the UWF established itself as one of the preeminent wrestling promotions worldwide. With such wrestling legends as Alex Kidd, "Crimson" Joe Reed, the Pride, "Erotic" Erin McCoys, Youth Gone Wild, the Fraternity Boys, "The Epitome of Evil" Serge Annis, "Tornado" Tara Smith and countless others plying their trade in the UWF, the Universal Wrestling Federation has been the home to the widest array of wrestling talent anywhere. According to industry insiders the UWF has staged events all over North America and Worldwide in front of several hundred thousand paying fans per year, and the weekly "Saturday Night Rampage" has remained at or near the top of network ratings for its ten-plus year history.
