Alamo Championship Wrestling Saturday Night Event - March 31st, 2007 The ACW Arena, nearly nine full months since the last time Alamo Championship Wrestling presented a Saturday night wrestling card, was about three quarters full. Which isn't surprising since there wasn't a ton of promotion to let people know the ACW is back, all things considering the crowd was admirable. Mostly the younger fans this evening, no doubt due to the ACW message board informing them of the shows and the less technologically-savvy fans missing out. Prior to the matches, Tom Landis came out to the ring to address the crowd. He used Chris Cornell's "You Know My Name" as entrance music, a nice touch given his past with the Pride and their fetish for all things Audioslave. Tom spoke to the audience and thanked them for sticking with the ACW through the shutdowns, promising that from now on ACW will be something they can count on for the best wrestling action in Texas. It seemed to be something of an apology for the time gaps, in fact he brought up Eurasia and the constant restarts that UWFE went through, Tom going on record to say that ACW wouldn't put its fans through the same thing. After pumping the crowd up, Tom left and we got our first match of the night. Zero-G d. Steven Edge --------------------- For anyone with as long a memory as I have, they'll remember these two teamed up on the last Saturday ACW show and lost a match to the West Coast Wild Boyz. This had a lot of aerial stunts to whip the crowd into a frenzy quickly, but about halfway through the match Edge started to focus on G's back and tried to ground him with a bunch of innovative backbreakers. G squeaked out the win with a victory roll, but after the match Edge pretended to shake his hand and instead beat the living crap out of Zero-G! A short-arm clothesline led into a nasty looking camel clutch, and it took several officials to pull Edge off and get him out of the ring. Zero-G plays the underdog role extremely well, and the crowd was completely on his side throughout the match. Kyra Braddock d. Keiko Shimoda ------------------------------ This match featured the debut of Braddock, an English wrestler who as I understand it was trained by a couple of members of the Benedict family. Kind of like the last match only in reverse, nobody was cheering Keiko even though she was totally outmatched here(though I still think Keiko is getting better each time she's in the ring). Kyra made pretty short work of the Southwest Champion's wife, finishing her off with the Eventide, Sonya Benedict's double spin kick finisher. After the match finished, we got "We Four Girls" over the PA system with women's laughter, and the word "Tonight!" flashed on the small video screen above the entrance. Dick Hackenschmidt d. Grady Mitchell ------------------------------------ The former number one contender to the Southwest Championship took on the bruiser, Hackenschmidt and the result was a pretty old-school kind of match. They pounded each other back and forth, Dick at one point used a ropeburn on Grady before hammering away on his neck to soften him up for the piledriver. Mitchell backdropped his way out of the move and started to pick up steam with some judo throws before a series of rolling elbowlocks, forcing Hackenschmidt to bail to the floor. Grady followed to the outside, which proved to be his undoing as Hackenschmidt tripped him into the ringsteps and a lariat on the outside set up for the piledriver back in the ring, Hackenschmidt covered for the win and left the Nebraska native down and out. San Antonio Streetfight: St. George & The Dragon d. The West Coast Wild Boyz --------------------------------------------------- All four men came out wearing jeans and t-shirts for this come as you are brawl. Both teams showed great teamwork, and a pile of weapons came into play during the course of the contest. The Boyz were first to introduce weapons, grabbing a broom from underneath the ring and clotheslining the Dragon out of the ring. St. George came off the top rope and splashed the broom though which caused Jordan and Hunter to collide into one another. A ladder was brought into play a little later on, and Hunter took a swan dive off the top of it to the outside to put one of his opponents through a stack of tables... he missed, and went through them himself. The Dragon was similarly wiped out by the ladder, thanks to a superbomb off it by Jordan, and a brawl out in the crowd with St. George and Jordan bought their partners a little time to recover. The end of the match finally came with the Boyz stacking their foes up in the corner and Jordan whipping Hunter into them with an avalanche, but Hunter got caught and heaved over the top rope with a huge suplex. Jordan wasn't watching, and when he turned around it was the Templar's Spear followed up with Dragonfire through another table for the win. Intermission: As is customary at ACW shows, some of the wrestlers made themselves available for autographs for the fans. The ACW t-shirt is a hot seller. Ryan Goodman d. The Great Gryphon --------------------------------- Gryphon did his usual thing, coming out to the ring and demanding real competition. The crowd booed him, but then, in a low rumbling voice over the PA system... "The end of your world... Is Here." Out from the back came Ryan Goodman, who has to be 7'3 easily, just as tall as the Gryphon. To the monster's shock, Goodman stormed the ring and looked him eye to eye before the bell rang. Gryphon attempted to do his usual assault on the back to soften up for a bearhug, but Goodman shrugged off the shots and then took the Gryphon OUT OF HIS SHOES with a spear tackle to the mat. With the crowd going bananas, Goodman picked the dazed Gryphon up and lifted him up into a vertical suplex, switching into a powerslam with a huge show of strength and covered the previously unbeatable monster for three! Goodman rose back to his feet and was showered with cheers as the excited crowd celebrated. Southwest Tag Team Championship Match: No Fat Chicks[c] d. Hellhound & Overkill ---------------------------------------- This wasn't too much more than a technical display as NFC proceeded to decimate Hellhound, after jumping Overkill before the bell and leaving him down and out cold outside the ring. Hellhound tried to mount a comeback by DDTing Reno as the champions tried a Hart Attack clothesline, but the odds proved to be too much as Richards nailed a superkick to send Hellhound straight into the Fat Chick Rippah, and NFC finished him off for the three count. NFC refused to leave the ring for several minutes after the match, posing for the crowd with the belts. Southwest Women's Championship Match: Kiora Donovan[c] d. Rosalee Perez --------------------------------- Donovan and Perez finally had their showdown over the women's title here, something that's been built up by their repeated matches on TV and past Saturday shows. Both women vowed to make the other submit before the match, and both women were booed by the audience heavily. Donovan got off to an early start by jamming Perez's elbow in between the top and middle turnbuckles and kicking repeatedly at it after a missed charge. Donovan clearly was setting up for the clawhold with her headbutts and Cup-Chois, until Perez managed to suplex her all the way over the ropes to the outside of the ring. Rosalee followed her to the outside and managed to even things up with a whip into the ringpost, and then a powerslam into the side of the post did major damage to Kiora's back. Perez abused the ten count, rolling back in and out to break it and get a fresh count before applying a bow-and-arrow hold around the ringpost, grinding away on the back of her enemy. The fight returned to the ring, with Rosalee in firm control and eager to wear Donovan's back down to the point that she had to submit. Kiora kept trying to regain control of the match by throwing kicks when she could, but Perez wasn't above breaking the rules with the referee's back turned and flat out choked Kiora when she could. She was able to slap on the Perez Stretch but was too close to the ropes, and after Kiora took hold of the ropes it was almost a five count before she finally released. Donovan bought herself a little bit of time by sending Rosalee to the floor by a grab of the tights, and a double kick to the face as she rolled to the outside softened Perez up further. In the end, Donovan managed to drop Perez with the Kiora Claw, winning by tapout. No sooner had she won the match than "We Four Girls" exploded over the PA system one more time, and a countdown showed up on the videoscreen. As the seconds ticked down, the lights totally cut out before orange and green lights swirled around the arena, giving almost a rave club type atmosphere. Finally the lights returned, and now Kiora Donovan was surrounded in the ring by four women. Two brunettes, a blonde and a redhead, all dressed in black tights with orange and green circles with "W4G" written on the legs, and similar logos on t-shirts. Donovan clutched the championship belt and looked around in surprise, before dropping the belt and taking a swing at one of the brunette women. She defended herself with a block and then a roundhouse legsweep took Donovan to the mat, and immediately the other women pounced on her with a co-ordinated and well timed attack. The other brunette hit a senton, rolled out of the way as the redhead flipped and dropped a leg across her throat, and finally the blonde landed a standing shooting star press. Having made short work of the Southwest Women's Champion and kicking her out of the ring, the first brunette took the house microphone and addressed the crowd. Speaking with a thick irish accent, she introduced herself as "Main Event" Megan Affleck, then proceeded to identify the other three women as "The Hot Chick" Taryn Weller (the blonde), "Fearless" Fiona Cassidy (the other brunette) and "Superstar" Shauna Duncan (the redhead)... and all together as We Four Girls, or W4G for short. A warning to the women's division in ACW followed, just as Rosalee Perez was returning to her feet. Infuriated at being made to tap out first and then to have these four take over the ring she attempted to jump Cassidy, but soon suffered the same fate as Donovan as W4G took her out with a double superkick by Weller and Duncan. Groggy but still on her feet, Perez was then knocked silly as Affleck jumped up and grabbed Rosalee by the neck to force her to a bent over position with a reverse lungblower, and Cassidy sprung off the ropes with an Asai moonsault splash across Perez's back, still being held by Affleck. As she left the ring quickly W4G each scaled a turnbuckle with their music blasting. The crowd began to chant "W-4-G!" over and over as the quartet left the ring soon after. Main Event, Southwest Heavyweight Championship: Genya Otsuka d. "Pure Power" Jerry Titus and Bobby Nash ------------------------------------------------------- The proud new champion made his entrance last, as Titus paced back and forth inside the ring and the cagey veteran Nash stood outside the ring. Otsuka initially was doubleteamed by the two challengers, but Nash quickly proved his disloyalty by nailing Titus from behind and flipping him out of the ring to the floor to have Genya to himself. Nash hit a quick powerbomb and went for the cover, but Otsuka kicked out and managed to thumb him in the eye. Regaining control, Genya caught Nash with a few clubbing forearms to get him in position for a submission hold, but didn't see Titus coming at him with a big boot to the face. Otsuka rolled to the floor, and Titus began to work Nash over before hitting him with his crucifix powerbomb for a count of two and two thirds. Otsuka saved his title reign with a quick dive into the ring and knocked Titus to the outside, then covered Nash himself and scored the three count much to the chagrin of the crowd. Garbage began to pelt him, but Otsuka raised the belt up and celebrated nonetheless to end the show. |
