Alamo Championship Wrestling Saturday Night Event - April 27th, 2007 Another packed house for ACW, lots of merchandise sold and some happy fans at least until the end of the show(more on that later). We started off with a quick rundown of the night's matches by Ron O'Haire, leading right into match #1. "Fearless" Fiona Cassidy d. Keiko Shimoda ----------------------------------------- This opening match got the crowd right into the action with the first appearance on the night for We Four Girls, rapidly becoming one of the most popular factions in wrestling (well, ACW at least). Cassidy made mincemeat out of Keiko for the most part, and from what little we've seen of W4G so far Cassidy seems like the most suicidal and highflying of the bunch. She managed to hit a top rope samoan drop on Shimoda, then finished her off with an Asai legdrop for the three count. With the quartet celebrating the win, Kiora Donovan showed up and again challenged one of the team members to a women's title match later tonight. After some discussion, "Main Event" Megan Affleck was the one who took her up on the challenge. Zero-G d. Steven Edge --------------------- Up next was one of the hotter fueds going right now, former partners and now enemies Zero-G and Steven Edge took turns berating each other on the mic prior to the match starting and Edge vowed to break the "skinny little third grader"'s neck. The match started off in the ring but quickly spilled out to the floor after Edge suplexed Zero-G right over the ropes to the outside and then launched himself off the top rope with a somersault crossbody. G fought back with his usual aerial stunts and managed to dropkick Steven right up against the ringpost in one nasty spot, and once they returned to the ring Zero-G landed a huge STO counter from another suplex to lay out Edge. The contest ended abruptly when G spiked Edge into the mat with a flying huracanrana cradle for another upset win, and post-match an enraged Steven threatened to beat up the referee before leaving. Ryan Goodman d. Hellhound ------------------------- Normally a tag team wrestler, Hellhound came out and announced that his partner, Overkill, was out with a concussion and wouldn't be wrestling tonight, but he wanted some competition anyways. Well that wasn't a very long boast, because Ryan Goodman showed up and pretty much destroyed him from start to finish, concluding the match with a jackhammer for the win. Kyra Braddock d. Rosalee Perez ------------------------------ Rosalee's bad luck continued here, fresh off several matches with the women's champion and no title to show for it and then a showdown with W4G last weekend she was up against the newcomer Braddock, and Kyra seemed to have her number with every attempted submission hold, countering out and back to working over Perez with an array of strikes and high impact moves. A legsweep into a standing senton splash knocked the wind out of Perez, who was never really in the match too much before the Eventide put her down for good. "Doctor of Destruction" David Brewer d. Grady Mitchell ------------------------------------------------------ Brewer made his ACW return finally for the first time in more than a year, and went toe-to-toe with one of ACW's most popular stars in Grady Mitchell. Brewer wasted no time in angering the crowd with a vicious clothesline to the back of Mitchell's head before the bell, and stomped him in the corner repeatedly before trying to break his arm with a cross armbreaker. Not as much of a submission attack than just trying to rip the arm out of it's socket, Brewer let up slightly on Grady to get him back to his feet but then dumped Grady on his head with a head-and-arm suplex takeover. Grady tried to make a comeback, feeding off the crowd's cheers, but it was shortlived as Brewer hit repeated backbreakers before finishing Mitchell off with his inverted running powerslam into the mat. Southwest Women's Championship Match: Megan Affleck d. Kiora Donovan by DQ ------------------------------------ The only title match of the evening, Affleck was of course accompanied by the rest of We Four Girls but Donovan complained to the referee and managed to get Weller, Duncan and Cassidy removed from ringside. The match started off with both girls going for a striking style, Donovan able to get Affleck on the defensive following a thumb to the eye and some grounded punches in the corner. It was clear that Donovan was out not to beat Affleck but to show her up and gain some revenge for the W4G entrance at her expense last week. Affleck escaped a bulldog with a throw-off and snapped off a few standing dropkicks before starting to toss Donovan around with a display of suplexes. After an exploder suplex Megan switched into a headlock to keep Kiora down and grounded, frustrating the women's champion. The contest ended as the referee got in the way of a Donovan irish whip and collided with Affleck, disqualifying Kiora due to the intentional nature. This led to Donovan grabbing the women's title and bashing Affleck in the head with it and applying the Lethal Lullaby kata-hajime until the rest of W4G ran out to make the save. #1 Contenders Match: St. George & The Dragon d. The West Coast Wild Boyz --------------------------------------------------- It's a match we've seen time and time again, but every time these two teams hold nothing back and this was no difference. Hunter and Jordan, sporting Denver Nugget jerseys of Iverson and Anthony, got under the crowd's skin and then threw the jerseys in the fan favorites' faces to get the first advantage. Pummeling St. George and knocking him from the ring, Hunter whipped Drake right into a superkick from Jordan and the two tried to hit a spike piledriver immediately. But Drake countered with a backdrop before spearing Hunter right out of the ring as well, and St. George returned to the ring to catch Jordan with a german suplex that flipped him all the way onto his stomach. The referee eventually got control of things, and as in their previous matches the teams traded advantage back and forth several times, nearly ending the match until the odd man out broke in for the save on his partner. Drake hit a Dragonfly to the outside, smashing into the WCWB and leaving all three sprawled on the floor. Late in the match Drake went to the top rope again for the Dragonfire, but got crotched by Hunter on the ropes. He tried to hit the Endgame on Adam but James St. George grabbed Hunter and nailed a neckbreaker off the ropes, leaving him prone to Drake, who this time hit the Dragonfire for the win and a showdown with No Fat Chicks. NFC hit the ring as soon as the bell hit though, grabbing St. George and laying him out with the Fat Chick Rippah before Richards nailed Drake with a shining wizard. Main Event: Genya Okutsu & Dick Hackenschmidt d. Jerry "Pure Power" Titus & Bullet ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Making quite an odd couple was Titus and Bullet, or as Genya called them prior to the match, 'the long and short of it'. The Southwest Champion started off against Bullet, and just like his title defense the night before Bullet seemed to have his number, quicker than Okutsu at every turn. Hackenschmidt entered the match soon after and was much more direct, kicking Bullet in the groin to slow him down. He began to maul Bullet, but Titus tagged in soon after and the power brawl between Hackenschmidt and Titus raged on, despite the six inch difference Dick more than held his own with the former champion. Titus tried to set up for the crucifix powerbomb but Okutsu distracted Jerry and allowed Hackenschmidt to nail a low blow before hitting a piledriver on Titus. Bullet tried to help out Titus as Dick went for a second piledriver, but Okutsu cut him off and hit the Screw Loose on the masked man as Titus was again driven headfirst into the mat. Before he could make the cover, Genya told him to deliver a third piledriver, and though he was already dead weight at this point, Titus was for a third time piledriven to the mat. Okutsu arrogantly covered Jerry himself for the three count, drawing a huge round of boos from the crowd. After the match, Titus was looked over by the EMTs and wheeled out on a stretcher to end the show. |
