Alamo Championship Wrestling Week of June 22nd, 2007 ----------------------- This week Overload began with highlights of the battle royal two weeks prior, set to "Lunatic Fringe". We fade right through to the ACW Arena in San Antonio, Texas, and a raucous crowd greeted Bullet as he made his way out to the ring. Bullet started to talk to the crowd about the upcoming Showcase Match at Gold Rush X when he was interrupted by the Players Club. A smug "Hollywood" Cody Jones wore the ACW championship around his waist as he taunted the fan favorite, revealing that Romeo Richards had indeed picked him and Ricky Reno as his two partners in the Showcase Match. Bullet responded that he actually had the right to choose his partners first, and asked Richards what his plan B would be if Bullet chose the champ? The prospect of being split up flustered the Club until Bullet laughed at them and told them not to worry, the men he was choosing had more guts and talent individually than the three of them combined. At this point Jones and NFC advanced on Bullet, but soon the partners revealed themselves to be James St. George and Adam Drake, the ACW Southwest Tag Team Champions! Bullet and the tag champs fought off the Players Club and stood together to the cheering of the crowd. Southwest Women's Champion Kiora Donovan teamed up with Rosalee Perez, Kyra Braddock and Keiko Shimoda to battle the quartet known as We Four Girls in eight woman tag team action. Not long before everyone got into the action, as W4G demonstrated some innovative quadruple-team moves to control much of the match including one spot where Weller and Cassidy hit a double arm-wringer on Shimoda, leaving her defenseless for a superkick by Affleck and finally a powerbomb from Duncan. Donovan and Braddock cleared the ring of half of their opponents, but it was Shimoda who ended up falling victim to a triangle choke from Affleck for the tapout loss. A red-headed man dressed in a black dress shirt and a pair of matching pants came out of the crowd as Shimoda was still laid flat out on her back, came into the ring and proceeded to give her a long and passionate kiss. This caused Keiko to regain consciousness, sputtering and immediately pulling away from this unknown stranger. It also caused her husband, Genya Okutsu, to come charging out from the back and straight to the ring. The man in black fled from the ring, but blew a kiss to Keiko before dissapearing through the crowd just seconds before Okutsu could get a hold of him. Dick Hackenschmidt strode out to the ring after the commercial break and bragged about putting Grady Mitchell on the shelf indefinitely after their street fight two weeks before, then demanded that ACW give him some real competition or he'd walk. This cued up the massive Ryan Goodman, who came out to brawl with Hackenschmidt for a short while before Dick got fed up and headed for the locker rooms. The bell never rang and as such this wasn't an official match, but the crowd nevertheless began to chant Goodman's name. Next we got a promo for Gold Rush X hyping the ACW Showcase Match, and a short message from the Players Club warning Bullet to stay out of their business, or else. Bullet squared off against Romeo Richards in the Overload main event, pitting the last two participants from the battle royal against one another and it was a fast-paced affair. Their upcoming partners at GRX arrived just prior to the last commercial break and ratcheted up the tension, and after coming back the match turned into a pier six brawl. Somewhere in the middle of the chaos Jones hit the Package Piledriver on Bullet and allowed Romeo to score an upset pinfall over him to end the program. --- We started off the night of action with a tag team gauntlet to determine the #1 contenders to the tag team titles: Hellhound and Overkill, Saturday Night Express, West Coast Wild Boyz, No Fat Chicks, "Doctor of Destruction" David Brewer and Stephen Edge, Bullet and "The Gunman" Danny Cole were all involved in the match. The Boyz started the match off against their recent rivals, Hellhound and Overkill, and despite some brutal doubleteam maneuvers by the WCWB it was once again an upset at the hands of 'Hound and 'Kill, taking Jason Jordan out of the match with a tombstone piledriver. Next saw David Brewer and Stephen Edge team up for the first time ever, and after a wild brawl eliminated their opponents with a spiked piledriver on Hellhound. They didn't get too much time to rest as Bullet and "The Gunman" Danny Cole came out to the ring next, and the odd pairing wound up working quite well together as the merciless Cole beat Edge down as Bullet used his speed to anger Brewer to the point of knocking him over the top rope to the outside. A standing dropkick to the back of the head propelled Edge straight into a Backblast by Cole for the cover, eliminating Brewer and Edge. The celebration was shortlived however as Danny Cole was immediately thrown from the ring by the next team in the gauntlet, No Fat Chicks. NFC laid out Bullet with a double slingshot suplex and worked him over severely, backbreakers and double knees to the stomach leaving him in a dazed and battered state. Finally as Reno set up for a running powerbomb Bullet was able to escape and turn the move into a huracanrana. He crawled to the corner and tagged in Cole, and as the Gunman stormed back into the ring he grabbed Bullet and proceeded to drive his own partner into the canvas with a twisting neckbreaker drop! The shock of the crowd led to Cole being booed out of the building, and he and NFC began a three-on-one assault of Bullet until James St. George and Adam "The Dragon" Drake rushed down to the ring to intervene. In the process they caused a disqualification and let No Fat Chicks move on in the gauntlet, but St. George hit a Templar's Spear on Romeo Richards and as security managed to separate everyone else it was the Saturday Night Express who took advantage, on the insistence of their manager WIMP to swoop in and steal the gauntlet with an Express Elevator to become the new #1 contenders to the Southwest Tag Team Titles. Kyra Braddock took on "Fearless" Fiona Cassidy next, and her ruthless new demeanor let her take Cassidy apart in short order, targetting the legs of the high flying W4G member and grounding her for the better part of the match. An axe kick off the apron left Cassidy prone for the Eventide, which allowed Braddock to gain the pinfall. Up next saw Zero-G against Genya Okutsu in a tables match. Early in the match Genya pitched G to the outside with a military press, and got a table set up in the corner. But he was unable to put his opponent through the table on several occasions, as Zero-G reversed an irish whip one time and later on managed to walk up the table and backflip into a moonsault press on Genya. This continued until Okutsu tried to set the table up properly in the ring and then took Zero-G to the top rope for the Screw Loose. But with an amazing show of agility G was able to land behind Genya on the top turnbuckle and drove him off with a bulldog through the table in the ring, winning the match and leaving Okutsu in need of medical help. With Okutsu having to be carried out, it was the perfect time from the strange man who kissed Keiko Shimoda to come down to the ring. The man, dressed in a long black trenchcoat tonight, heavy black eyeliner under his eyes and a slightly red hue to his stringy black hair, addressed the crowd, revealing himself as Keiko's secret admirer over the past several weeks and announcing that his name was Johnny Sunshine. As the crowd slowly but surely began to boo him, Sunshine proclaimed his undying love and devotion to his "goddess Keiko", and in urging her to dump Genya wiped a tear from his eye. "Into The Ocean" by Blue October began to play as Sunshine left the ring, with the crowd practically ready to throw garbage at him. The crowd was then surprised to see none other than Brick Rosen come out to the ring next, bragging about his world tour and fighting overseas. Rosen demanded some competition right then and there, which led to the obvious entrance of Ryan Goodman to the delight of the audience. Rosen's bulked-up physique was no match for the undefeated Goodman, who finished Brick off with The End Of Your World. "Main Event" Megan Affleck defeated Keiko Shimoda in a five minute match next, as once again Keiko was able to hold her own in the ring but was eventually outlasted by the technically superior Affleck. Megan, trying to keep her #1 contender status to the Southwest Women's Title, went for a Broken Ceiling yakuza kick like she'd defeated Keiko with two weeks earlier on television but Shimoda managed to duck the maneuver. Keiko then went to the top turnbuckle, but the re-emergency of Johnny Sunshine distracted her and allowed Affleck to superplex her opponent for the three count. Following the match Kiora Donovan showed up to try and assault Megan, but a Broken Ceiling by the challenger left the champion scrambling instead. "Hollywood" Cody Jones defended the Southwest Championship against Dick Hackenschmidt and a surprise returning Grady Mitchell in a Texas Triangle Match, and used the hostilities between his two challengers to end up keeping his title when he ducked a running lariat from Mitchell and Dick ended up getting flattened. A Package Piledriver to Grady, who's head was still bandaged from the streetfight two weeks prior, and Jones celebrated the win with his NFC teammates. Hackenschmidt and Mitchell resumed their fight and brawled to the back as Jones told the crowd to watch the Players Club live in Detroit, where ACW would steal the show from 'big brother' the UWF. |
