About a couple years ago, Mike Beeby put together a list of the 40 most memorable moments in UWF history. Some time after that, I suggested the idea of a 100 most memorable moments for the UWF's 10th anniversary. It's still about a year away from 10 years of operation for the UWF, but perhaps those of you here who have followed the UWF have a list of memorable moments? I'm not looking at quality, mind you, but simply things that happened in the UWF that people remember and were often widely talked about. So yes, this would include things that people would say were great (like the Alex Kidd/Youth Gone Wild match from Live and Interactive that won 1999 Match of the Year) or are things that have become the butt of jokes (perfect example is Rick Styles and the blimp at 2000 Gold Rush). So... let's hear it. What sticks out as memorable moments in the UWF? |

For me, it'd have to be the powerbombing of Gus of the Fraternity Boys off the Unitron by Paul Wong. Not only one of the most brutal moments I've ever seen, but it personally came back for me with an attempt on 1WA. That and the ending of that Frat/Machines feud, that match was one of my all-time favorites. |

I can't say my UWF experience spans a great time like most of the roster. I'd have to say, when I was in UWF, my fondest memory was the Invaders angle. *dodges the tomatoes* I just had a blast being part of that. |

Time for your daily allotment of Phil Ashton's Shameless Self-Whoring: Caliban laying out President Beeby with an Epitomizer through a stretcher at Summer of Sin 2000...capping one decent feud and igniting an even better one. |

Bob - is there a copy of that list of 40 floating around somewhere? My most memorable moment is the Pride crashing Alex Kidd's wedding. Although Serge Annis winning the world title in a match he wasn't even in is pretty close. [Cough, cough] Excuse me... it's just that the finish to that match was so Dusty... it's bothering my throat. Sorry about that. |

OK, here's that top 40 list of moments I mentioned in my original post. This was compiled in May of 2003, so it could be up for debate as to what recent moments could be added. 1. "The Epitome of Evil" Serge Annis annihilates all in his path to becoming the first ever Universal Champion. 2. Harlequin Comedy takes over as President of the UWF. 3. Paul Wong powerbombs Gus Zampitella off the top of the Unitron. 4. Tim Vexton turns on Legion to join the Pride, then turns out to be Tim's twin brother Shawn instead. 5. Alex Kidd versus Youth Gone Wild in the 1998 Match of the Year. 6. "Cold Blooded" Chris Courtade brings an Invasion to the UWF. 7. Brewster Cogburn unifies the Universal and International Championships in the summer of 1996. 8. The Prophet is revealed to be MBC President Kyle Lee, who was thought to be paralyzed from the waist down and in a wheelchair for life. 9. The first Rampage Bloody Rampage joint event with MBC. 10. Amy Marshall flashes Sam Steeley on Saturday Night Rampage. 11. Sebastian Jericho wins a 32 man tournament to claim the vacant World Championship. 12. Raekwon becomes the UWF President and fires David Rogers and Amy Marshall. 13. Cameo leaves her husband, Alex Kidd to join his arch-rival Randolph Chalmers III. 14. Youth Gone Wild bets Brett Greene in an online chat that Apocalypse won't win the vacant World Title in a battle royal; Apoc wins and YGW's stablemate Alex Kidd is forced to relinquish his United States title to Greene. 15. "Crimson" Joe Reed faces the Lady in Red in her last match, then proposes to her immediately afterwards. 16. El Cazador unmasks himself, revealing that Quinn Brown had been in the company for six months. 17. Sunburst's secret admirer turns out to be Greg "Iceman" Smith. 18. The Harlequins and Dark Harlequins bury the hatchet and reunite. 19. Serge Annis ends KK's managerial career during the Descent into Hell match with Caliban. 20. The Maloney Brothers go corporate, shilling everything including WCW. 21. With the help of Greg Smith, "Erotic" Erin McCoys defeats "Cardiac Kid" Joey Valachi to take the Skyweight Championship. 22. The Lady in Red becomes the first woman to hold a UWF championship, defeating "The Extreme Superstar" for the Cruiserweight Title in a ladder match. 23. Terror as the referee awards a First Blood Match to both Michael Augustine and Scott Daniels when they cause HIM to bleed. 24. Serge Annis steals the World Title in a match he wasn't scheduled in, a ladder-cage match against "Crimson" Joe Reed and Bishop. 25. Rick Styles tries to hang Dan Kauffman from a blimp at Gold Rush. 26. The Pride interrupts the wedding of Alex Kidd to Alicia Powers live on SNR. 27. Luchador Neal "Skywalker" Maloney reveals during a scaffold match that he's afraid of heights. 28. The Nina Grimsson-Lisa Drake Tokyo Suicide bloodbath from 2002. 29. The Fraternity Boys take on the Machines at Gold Rush 2001 in a MOTY candidate, Chris O'Brien wins it via the Aristoclutch. 30. In the span of a month, EMWC wrestlers "Playboy" Ronnie D, "Wild Thing" Kevin Slater and Diamondback Chris Myers all appear in the UWF. 31. The Harlequins versus The Machines in the 5 Star Restaurant Match. 32. The Legion-Pride-Youngbloods match, and subsequent merger of Pride and Legion into Tradition. 33. The Best Of Seven Series between Youth Gone Wild and Quinn Brown. 34. The Fabulous Ones loses a Loser Must Leave The UWF Match against the Machines. 35. "Crimson" Joe Reed wins his first UWF Championship, and becomes an anti-UWF/pro-AEWA heel. 36. The American Dragons' SUV is destroyed by the Harlequins' locomotive. 37. The creation of the "much maligned" women's division. 38. The Pride hi-jacks the wrestling ring on Rampage, lifting it off the ground and holding the show hostage. 39. The AEWA takes part in the first ever Road To The Gold battle royal. 40. Scott "Hotspot" Daniels gives his own daughter a Pride Breaker. |

Ugh, Bob. That's all I can say. Ugh. My personal biggest beef against Mark was his fondness for using inflatable rubber things in his strats. I wouldn't even describe it as memorable except in that painful kind of way that you really don't want to remember. I know that you acknowledged this one already but... just... ugh! Patrickus Lurkus |

Yes, it's the revivial of an old thread! So I've been trying to compile nominees for UWF's most memorable moments, and I've gone through just the first three years and... well, there's quite a few things that happened that might make such a list. So... stay tuned, because once the list of nominees is finally compiled, people will get to vote! Haven't decided particulars or anything else, so be patient... more information will come, I promise! |
