TOTAL DRAMA WRESTLING: E-wrestling with a reality show twist THE LIKELY ASKED QUESTIONS 1. What is this? 2. Who is running this? 3. How will this be ran? 4. How do roleplays work? 5. How do strats work? 6. What other particulars do I need to know? 7. Who are the personalities? 8. I'm interested... what do you need from me? 1. What is this? With so many reality shows being thrown onto television screens, another group of individuals figured they'd throw another one onto the pile, in hopes of making money off those who crave their 15 minutes of fame. Enter Total Drama Wrestling, in which this production team decided it would be fun to take a bunch of wrestlers who have no problem with doing whatever it takes to achieve that fame, even if it may last less than 15 minutes. Total Drama Wrestling focuses on wrestlers demonstrating their individual skills and talents through a series of challenges. Some are structured like typical wrestling matches that fans will be familar with, while others add a little twist to them. The quest for these wrestlers is to outlast the competition to claim that $100,000 prize that awaits the last wrestler standing. 2. Who is running this? In character, the company running this is know as Cheap Ass Productions, a company run by folks who are such tightwads, they didn't want to pay actors, writers, producers or anyone else big bucks to put together a show that will draw ratings, nor willing to put the company public to let greedy Wall Street suits bitch and moan about their stocks. They just threw this show together and hope it draws a respectable rating on the Stuff Happening On Television network. On top of that, they found an old minimum security prison somewhere in the middle of nowhere, in which the wrestlers stay in their individual cells, the wrestling ring is located in the gym and the wrestlers have to settle for the finest accommodations the prison offers. Um, yeah... In reality, and on a serious note, the person behind this e-w concept is me, Bob Morris. People should be familiar with characters of mine such as "Dead End" Derek Martin, John Shock, Rough N Ready and Jerry "Pure Power" Titus, among others. I'm running this as something to have fun with and hopefully something everyone else will have fun with. 3. How will this be ran? What I am looking for is about 20 e-w characters who are willing to participate in a show structured like the various reality shows out there. I'd like at least 12, and I definitely need an even number of characters. Each episode, a particular challenge is placed before the wrestlers, often having a comical or unusual twist. Early on, wrestlers will be placed onto teams (though this may change if a smaller number of characters are entered), and after each episode, when a winning team is determined, the losing team casts votes as to which wrestler should leave. Eventually, the teams will be broken up and it will become either wrestlers being randomly paired for challenges, or challenges in which it's every wrestler against each other. As the field grows smaller, there will be some points in which a wrestler won't be voted off, but instead, will be eliminated based on how a challenge turns out. When it comes down to the last two wrestlers, there will be a final challenge set up in which the other wrestlers who participated will be the final judges as to who wins. If a deciding vote needs to be cast, it will be cast by some mystery dude that is never shown on camera (in other words, me). Winners of challenges are determined by roleplays and strats submitted to me. When each challenge is presented, you should have a good idea about how strats will work. 4. How do roleplays work? Roleplays you will always submit are promos for your characters talking about the challenges that are to take place, their reactions to what is about to happen and their reaction to certain characters they are competing against. They will take place in front of a Total Drama Wrestling backdrop, just like backstage promos. In the promos, do not give me lengthy descriptions of action or appearances... keep it focused on what your wrestler has to say. These promos are not to be long. Think about how things are done on reality shows... nobody goes rambling on for upwards of 10 minutes in an individual interview. The best rule of thumb to use with a promo is this: The longer it takes you to read your finished product, the less likely it will work in your favor. A promo that can be read in about 30 to 60 seconds will do more to help you than a promo that takes double or triple that time to read. These promos are part of what will be used to judge who wins a challenge. Other roleplays you can do can be the follow-up reaction to what went down during a challenge (also done in front of the backdrop), as well as alliances that get formed between characters. And just like on reality shows, the alliances will be made known to all, so if you do get together for alliances, you need to roleplay it and can't just do it in the secrecy of e-mail. If I find out certain people are working together in secrecy, without letting it be known through roleplays, you will be eliminated automatically. These additional roleplays also play a part in determining who wins challenges and likely keeps themselves alive. The best way to put is this: Additioanl roleplays don't have to be submitted after a challenge is determined, but if you do them, you are going to help your chances of swaying my decisions regarding future challenges. In other words, somebody who does just the one promo and nothing else is less likely to win future challenges as things progress, when compared to those who are active and regularly doing roleplays to further enhance the shows and their characters. Once again, keep these roleplays brief and don't go into lengthy descriptions of actions and appearances. 5. How do strats work? When a challenge is presented, you need to come up with a strat that details what you are planning to do to approach the challenge and win it. Dual and team strats are fine in situations when they are called for, but everyone who is involved with them needs to confirm with me that is what they plan to do. Strats to "run interference" against others may be allowed, depending on the situations. When challenges are presented, I will give details as to what a strat should tell me and what is and isn't allowed. Failure to submit a strat, or submitting a strat that violates any guidelines I give you, will mean you won't win the challenge. Also, regarding your strats, while creativity is encouraged, keep it believable or it won't be used. More details about what the challenges will entail will come up as things progress. 6. What other particulars do I need to know? First of all, have a sense of humor. There will be jokes made about those wrestlers who participate and some situations might seem silly... so if your character is somebody you'd rather portray as being serious, don't enter that character. Second, both male and female characters are allowed to participate and will compete against each other. That being said, I will structure challenges so that males and females don't have to engage in physical violence against each other... if they do face each other directly, it will be structured so that it's not absolutely necessary that a male wrestler must "beat up" a female wrestler in order to win. I'm definitely looking for a variety of personalities here, so your character's gimmick and personality will be important. It should be kept believable, but the more unique, the better your character will fit with the concept. Shows will be written in "parts" and will be more of a recap/highlights format, rather than full blown "commentary," similar to how things are done with actual reality shows. The updates will detail the challenge before the wrestlers, the first "part" will be the host going over the challenge with the wrestlers, the promos following and the actual challenge taking place. The second "part" will be wrestlers reaction to the challenge, additional roleplays you submit that detail alliances and other happenings, and then the results of the vote or who ended up being eliminated. Finally, the votes will be taken through secret ballot. Those involved in the voting will send their choice to me and the results tallied. If ties occur, the tie is decided by that mystery dude never shown on camera. Oh, one more thing... deadlines are strictly enforced. Anything that comes in after a deadline will be neither used nor acknowledged, no exceptions. 5. Who are the personalities? Host: Randy Grant, who likes to joke around, is a bit cocky and may sometimes brag about how he came up with these cool ideas for challenges. The wrestlers are likely to learn that he gets a kick out of the sometimes silly stuff the wrestlers have to go through in order to be the last one standing, and they may very well tire of the jokes he'll toss around Referee: Raymond Elbert, who is only here because he liked getting an additional paycheck. As a referee, he's not really interested in doing his job, so wrestlers may be able to get away with some stuff they might not otherwise. Wrestlers are likely to notice he's just there for the ride and probably won't concern themselves too much with him. Other personalities may appear on later shows and they will be revealed at the proper time. One note: None of the personalities may be used by anyone else, so don't ask. 6. I'm interested... what do you need from me? If you have an existing or currently inactive character you want to enter, just give me an application you have on file... but it definitely helps if it plays up your character's gimmick and personality. Otherwise, use this standard form. As you will see, I'm not asking for a lot from you, except when it comes to gimmick and personality. Your name: Your e-mail address: Wrestler name: Male or female: Height: Weight: Hometown: Favored wrestling style: List 10 moves your wrestler uses most often: List two signature moves and descriptions as needed: Wrestler finisher and description as needed: If this wrestler competes/has competed in other feds, list them (note current fed if applicable): Gimmick and personality (this is the most important section): And send your application to ratsportrm at yahoo.com (add the @ symbol in place of "at" and eliminate the spaces, obviously). Then join the Yahoogroup at http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/tdwrestling. I'll go with an initial deadline of Sunday, Aug. 16, for applications to be submitted. If I need more by the time that date arrives, I'll give appropriate notice. |
