The future of Red Mountain Casino's wrestling promotion ALPHA hung in the balance last Saturday at ALPHA 20: The Battle for Red Mountain! Who would hold the choice of the next King of Savage challenger? Would the ALPHA head office, represented by Daniel Stann, choose a fair competitor, or would LIONS Fight Club director Anton Assault be free to pick a "safe" choice for champion John Hurst? This pressing question was answered on the show on top of the ever-present incredible wrestling action! If you missed it, be sure to order ALPHA 20 on demand by calling 1 800 MOD ERNV or visiting www.modernvision.com today! Our reliable reporter Charlie Reager once again produced our recap. ![]() alpha.nearzone.com ALPHA 20 The Battle for Red Mountain 9.4.10 There are about 320 people in the Prime Stage tonight. Transatlantic Tag Battle: Royal Lancers (Jay and Stephen Mathers) vs. Canada's Finest (Eddie Traveller and Jean LaFrench) Jay and Traveller started things off, LaFrench getting an early advantage, catching Jay with a dropkick that staggered the Brit and then moving in to a headlock to bring him back to the Canadian corner. Canada's Finest worked a solid tag strategy, keeping Jay isolated. A tandem shoot into the ropes worked against them when Jay blasted past their attempted tandem clothesline and came back with a double clothesline of his own! Jay tagged Steve in and for a while all four men were in the ring, but the Lancers quickly cleared LaFrench out and levelled Traveller with a double shoulder block. The Lancers slowed down the match considerably, working over Traveller's back with knee drops, grounded backbreaker holds, and corner work, consistently distracting the ref so the man on the apron could do some extra damage. Jay came swaggering back to the corner, chops from Traveller! Hit the ropes, BULLDOG! Tag out to LaFrench! Running knee lift! Knocked Steve off the apron! GUTWRENCH SUPLEX -- GOT HIM! 2! LaFrench stayed on the attack, pulling Jay to his feet and slinging him back down with a belly-to-belly suplex. Tag out to Traveller, tandem whip into the buckles, tandem dropkick! Cover: 2.5 -- Steve made the save! Traveller worked feverishly to keep Jay down, throwing down stomps, elbows, and repeatedly going for covers to no avail. Frequent tags between Canada's Finest isolated Jay from his brother, and they kept Jay running the ropes to set up their attacks. TANDEM BACK BODY DROP! LaFrench covered: 2.8 -- ropes! LaFrench tagged out to Traveller, hit the ropes, HURACANRANA -- POWERBOMB! Both men down! Tags out to both Steve and LaFrench, cross body from Steve! 2! Steve made sure to keep the pace up against LaFrench, but his lack of sheer power hurt his chances to keep the bigger man off his toes, so he resorted to cheaper tactics: hooking the legs, raking the eyes, facewashes. He gave his brother the chance to recover by playing the rat. LaFrench managed to catch Steve with a left hook, then followed in with clubbing blows. STALLING SUPLEX -- Steve worked free! European uppercut! Jawbreaker! Tag out to Jay, slugfest between Jay and LaFrench! Steve hit the dropkick on LaFrench! BRITISH RACK FROM JAY! Steve blocked Traveller from interfering! LaFrench tapped out! Winners: Royal Lancers (Jay+ and Stephen Mathers) by submission (20:34) Moving the Mountain: Rodrigo De La Zed vs. Kevin Alloy DLZ went back to his wrestling roots from the very beginning of the match, taking special care to avoid locking up with the powerful Kevin Alloy, constantly in a position to shoot for the legs if Alloy got dangerous. DLZ stuck and moved, capitalizing on his speed advantage, landing little shots here and there. DLZ attempted a shoulder tackle early on and Alloy dared him to try again. He was unable to drop him with the tackle, much to the bully's amusement. On the third try, he took flight and connected with a flying yakuza kick that sent Alloy the mat! DLZ's mistake came when he attempted to catch Alloy off guard with a scoop slam after Alloy stood from the kick– an attempt to collect the money offered for the first man to slam Alloy to the mat. He strained and struggled, but couldn't manage to lift Alloy off the mat. In doing so, Alloy was able to grab hold, knock the wind out of DLZ with a knee lift to the stomach, and backed him into the corner where he proceeded to work him over with flurry punches to the body and head. Trapped in the corner with the behemoth blocking his escape, DLZ took substantial punishment before Alloy irish whipped him to the opposite corner and charged in with an avalanche splash that kept him winded and slow. Alloy controlled the pace of the match for the next several minutes with DLZ unable to mount any substantial offense against the big man but never breaking. After an especially brutal short arm clothesline, Alloy signaled that the match was over and hooked DLZ for the Last Trip to Tulsa! DLZ slid behind, jumped on Alloy's back, and put the hooks in on a sleeper hold! Alloy struggled, tried to reach behind and grab DLZ, but couldn't. He began to stumble, his consciousness fading, even dropped to a knee. The referee came and watched Alloy closely, looking to see if he went out. With a yell, Alloy stood back to both feet! DLZ squeezed tighter around Alloy's massive tree trunk neck, but it was too late. Alloy threw his weight backward, landing hard on his back with DLZ underneath! Alloy made a cover! 2.9! Alloy stood on wobbly legs, still recovering from the hold. That recovery time gave DLZ just enough time to pull himself up with the aid of the ropes and rest his back against the corner. Alloy shook his head violently and regained his composure. He saw DLZ in the corner and bull rushed for another avalanche splash. DLZ moved! Alloy crashed sternum first into the corner with an insane amount of force that shook the ring! The momentum sent him rocketing back to the waiting DLZ school boy roll up! 2! Alloy kicked out with power, pushing DLZ a few feet away. DLZ stood to his feet, clutching at his ribs and advanced towards Alloy, he was getting back to his feet, turned away from DLZ. Alloy turned just in time and threw a hook to the body, doubling DLZ over! Alloy hooked him in the suplex position once more but DLZ threw consistent shots. The shots didn't seem to phase Alloy at this point, but made him angry. Alloy pushed DLZ away hard and shot him to the far ropes. Bell clap! Alloy scraped him off the mat and hooked him in the suplex once more, picked him up into the air and drove him down hard! Last Trip to Tulsa! 3! Winner: Kevin Alloy by pinfall (Last Trip to Tulsa, 11:17) Hacking the Redwood: Barron Ulysses vs. Lex Fox Ulysses charged at Fox, only for Fox to evade him and Ulysses to eat turnbuckle. This cat and mouse game continued for a while, Fox doing his best to stay out of Ulysses's grasp. As time went on, Fox began to take his shots, firing dropkicks to Ulysses's back, blasting the back of his neck with forearm shots, doing whatever he could to take the big man down. Nothing worked. Fox attempted a schoolboy, but Ulysses remained on his feet, grabbing Fox by the hair and pulling him up easily -- thumb to the eye! Ulysses staggered about, blinking his eyes free. Fox jumped on Ulysses's back, locking in a sleeperhold! Ulysses roared, grabbing Fox's hair and pulling him over his shoulder. CRUSH RUSH -- flipover ace crusher! Fox looked freaked out by how near the Crush Rush was. Ulysses leaned against the ropes, not quite taken down. After a few seconds to regroup, Fox got back on the attack, throwing everything and the kitchen sink at Ulysses. Ulysses weathered the blows and fired back with a heavy open-handed chop that flopped Fox onto his back! Ulysses moved slower than normal, but still advanced on Fox, throwing him back into the corner and working him over with shoulder blocks and forearm shots. Ulysses backed into the opposite corner and came charging in for a lariat, but Fox slipped out to the floor! Fox was hurting, but he made his way over to his laptop, picking it up and sliding into the ring! The ref tried to stop him, but Fox shoved him away and CREAMED Ulysses with the laptop! The ref called for the bell! Winner: Barron Ulysses by disqualification (9:29) Fox slammed the laptop on Ulysses once again. He grabbed a mic and ran down Ulysses. He then challenged Ulysses to a match at A+, where he said that he would finally do what he said he was going to: become the first person to defeat Ulysses one-on-one! LIONS F.C.'s Nathan Rageous, Josh Cameron, and King of Savage John Hurst headed down to the ring, smirking. Hurst grabbed the mic and called out Alexander Shaw and D.R. Kongo. Shaw & Kongo came out from the back, ready to fight. Hurst taunted them about being alone tonight. Shaw & Kongo started down towards the ring, intent on going it alone, but then Maurice Thompson showed up! Shaw & Kongo seemed surprised, but Thompson blew right past them to the ring, and without a word the six-man match was on! Over the Top: LIONS F.C. (John Hurst, Nathan Rageous, and Josh Cameron) vs. Alexander Shaw, D.R. Kongo, & Maurice Thompson Thompson started things off against Cameron, throwing heavy hands early on. Cameron was surprised by the assault and scrambled away, letting Rageous blind tag into the match. Thompson was equally unprepared for Rageous's bull-like strength and found himself on the wrong end of exchanges from this point on. He fought valiantly, but the LFC worked him over, tagging in and out frequently. HURST DRILLED THOMPSON WITH A FISHERMAN BUSTER! 2.5 -- Kongo made the save! Shaw and Kongo brawled with Cameron and Rageous, knocking them outside the ring and taking the fight to the floor! Carnage raged on the outside, the battle going back and forth, both sides making liberal use of the ring frame and the barricades to do damage to their opponents. Inside the ring, Hurst kept the pressure on Thompson, basically toying with him between brutal strikes. Much to his disbelief, however, Thompson kicked out of every roundhouse kick or elbow shot he received. As LFC got control on the outside, Hurst called his underlings back to the ring. Tag in to Rageous, TANDEM SUPLEX -- FLATTENED THOMPSON! 2.8! Rageous tagged in Cameron, whipped Thompson into the ropes, TANDEM LARIAT TOOK HIS HEAD OFF! 2.99 -- ropes! Cameron went for a Northern Lights suplex, THOMPSON SWUNG BACK INTO A DDT! Thompson used the last bit of his energy to jump for a tag, but Kongo and Shaw weren't in position! Thompson tried to gather his energy, but Cameron was up first and on the attack. Thompson fought desperately, but the damage had been done and Cameron managed to get Thompson to the mat, laying in punches from mount. Cameron peeled Thompson off the mat, whipped him into the ropes, OSOTO GARI -- Thompson ducked! Hit the ropes again, blind tag from Kongo! Cameron threw Thompson with a belly-to-belly, covered, but the ref didn't count! Cameron got up slowly, STRONG KICK! He covered, but as soon as Hurst and Rageous made to get into the ring, Kongo popped up and dared them to get in! Kongo took this opportunity to get Cameron into the corner and tee off with the precise, powerful kicks he's known for, taking out his frustration. Cameron managed to catch one of the kicks and threw punches straight at Kongo's face! The ref tried to break it up, but Cameron swept Kongo to the mat and continued his barrage! Kongo controlled an arm, triangle choke! Cameron got the ropes! Both were pretty out of it, but Kongo and Cameron managed to drag themselves to their respective corners. Kongo tagged in Shaw! Cameron went to tag in Hurst, but Hurst shook his head! Rageous took the tag! Rageous and Shaw charged at each other, jumping knee to the skull took Rageous down to the mat! Shaw was a man possessed, wailing away on Rageous. Rageous gut checked Shaw, carrying him back into the corner. He hit a couple shoulder thrusts, but Shaw spun out of the way of one, GERMAN SUPLEX -- SPIKED HIM! Bridge: 2.7 -- Hurst broke it up! Hurst shrugged off the ref and threw Shaw headfirst into the turnbuckle pad! Rageous and Shaw got up to their feet at nearly the same time, Shaw using the ropes. Rageous threw his weight around to keep control of the match, but Shaw started firing back with elbows before too long. Rageous booted Shaw in the stomach, POWERBOMB! Held it in: 2.9 -- Kongo broke it up! Hurst booted Kongo's head off! Thompson's dropkick floored Hurst! Cameron ejected Thompson! It took a bit for Rageous to get back up to his feet, but he and Cameron managed to get Shaw up and shoot him into the ropes, TANDEM SPINEBUSTER -- Shaw threw elbows at both of them! He fought valiantly, but the two-on-one attack started to get to him, LUNGBLOWER FROM KONGO TOOK CAMERON OUT! Shaw booted Rageous, FALCON ARROW! Kongo blocked Hurst! 3! Winner: Alexander Shaw+, D.R. Kongo, & Maurice Thompson by pinfall (falcon arrow pin, 22:41) Hurst broke away from Kongo and levelled Shaw with a kick, but Kongo ejected Hurst from the ring! Thompson rolled back in as Rageous was shoved out. The LIONS were obviously ready to jump back into the ring, but Daniel Stann emerged from the back! He said that as per the stipulations, he got to choose the challenger for the King of Savage title at A+, and he was choosing a man who had been wronged, who had been cheated, and deserved his redemption...
