The ultimate maneuver... lock on the Perry Fontana armbar, and start the takedown with it, but then jump and drop back-first in the Tommy Stephens Senton, and aim for the beck! ON A CANCER VICTIM!

It's TNM and without it, me and Doran would never have evolved into the degenerate messes we are today. Heck, we should STILL use it!

[Trey DaMann goes for a clothesline, but Juan Vasquez counters with a duck-down move.
Juan Vasquez punches Trey DaMann.
The crowd showers Juan Vasquez with a chorus of boos.
Juan Vasquez further incites the crowd.
Juan Vasquez is getting a good reaction.]

Look at the emotion in that writing! :D

Although this may help out with the timeliness of cards coming out... You may be on to something here.

Hey, I wouldn't mind it so much if such programs were used for a B show or and stuff like that. It's no grand literature but if it helps churn out results with less effort and faster.
"A" show and main events should preferably be spared.

And what's with all the armbar hate? I'll never pretend it's the world's most spectacular move but it beats a backslide any day.
What was I supposed to do? The market on DDTs, Sentons (esp. Tommy Stephens Style), Suplexes, Slams and Powerbombs was already cornered, so I just latched on to what was left.

But that's getting off topic.

I'll have to concur: Annis and YGW make timely returns (if they do stick around). The UWF is a little bit starved for faces due to the overwhelmingly high number of heels (what else is new?).

Anytime you see me making armbar jokes, I am referring to the incident in UEW that Jer was talking about. In general, I don't have a problem with armbars :)

I think if you did a search for it, you would see Jeff or I giving out the exact details.

Dammit, and here I thought I had it right because my inclination was to go with TNM, and could have sworn I always used to get it wrong. But you're right, because TMN is The Movie Network, and the game was always the reverse of it.

Yeaaaaaaaaaargh. It's been close to 14 years now. How depressing.

The armbar deal was at was a UEW incident? I could have sworn it was a Wrestlebowl supercard incident. Or am I mixing things up again?

The wrestlebowl one was the infamous "Michinoku armbar" incident that included Brody Thunder's twin brother wrestling in his place and Chris Courtade doing somersault planchas.

They should have called it a Chris Courtade style somersault plancha... whatever that is.

And... back on topic.

Have to say I'm pretty hyped about things in UWF. Some good matches and surprises, and holy moly, what a final hour it was.

Awesome job, everyone.

The one I am talking about happened in UEW.

Briefly, Rick Styles and Alex Martinez have a match for the Ultimate Title at Rumble in the Bronx. (98? I can't remember).

There are a lot of shenanigans in the match, including Alex Extreme having a heart attack. (Jeff can rant about that).

At the end of the match, Styles gets AM down, and (in the match writer's words) PULLS on AM's arm until the arm is wrenched out of its socket and the extreme pain causes AM to faint and lose the title. Thus, the "ARMBAR OF DEATH!"

Not long after the PPV, in an AIM conversation, the fed head says to me "its time for you to start putting people over."

About a week after that, Pat contacts me and asks me to feud with Black Dog in G-Pro, for a series of three matches. (And those were some crazy ass matches).

On the back of that feud and my constant harassing on IRC, Blue offers me a roster spot. My choice then becomes losing to everyone in UEW or getting a chance in EMWC.

Not surprisingly, I say adios to UEW and head to EMWC.

And on my way out of UEW, I lose my last match to a backslide, thus giving Colby the title. (I think it was Colby, I could be wrong).

Okay, so it wasn't that brief. :)

So, uh...

What's so awful about putting people over, and how to I avoid falling prey to this terrible predicament?

All this talk about people putting over got me thinking...

The only person Vasquez beat the entire cycle was a cancer victim and even that cancer victim has a winning record over him now!

I should be complaining to Beebs about having people put ME over! :boxing:

Lots of characters lose way more often than they rightly should, IMO. I guess it's a direct consequence of every match needing at least one loser...

But Oz Rivera should win more, IMO. I like this character, possibly because I liked the feud as well. So I imagine the same would apply to Dubba V.

And Tommy Stephens should get a frikkin' break already. It's gotten to the point where getting the short end of the stick is one of the things that makes the character endearing... but I'm sure Stephens can cope with at least one little win!

I'm forgetting others, but nobody unjustly jobs quite like Stephens jobs.

Its not the losing that bothered me. I've probably lost more matches than I've won.

But in UEW, you were actually supposed to be capable of winning, provided you did a better job than your opponent. (In these days, feds are more angle based, but in UEW, it was more competitive), and I was being told that no matter what I did, I was going to be losing from here on out. At the time, it just seemed like any effort I would have put forth would have been wasted.

I find the idea that Alex Martinez, who is now probably the most monstrous of all monsterous wrestlers in e-w history, would be given a losing streak pretty funny. Even in his down time, Martinez is still considered some sort of overwhelming obstacle that'll take every ounce of determination and skill to defeat. Seven footers shouldn't ever be cannon fodder. :boxing:

Or maybe I've just become too scarred from memories of Vasquez needing to hit a no-selling Martinez with every weapon in the book to gut out wins. :bye:

Seriously, in the early 00s? You could hit Martinez with a car and he'd firebomb chokeslam the car. :crying:
