After a couple of shows, the independent wrestling scene in San Antonio is again buzzing about ACW. Less than a week away from the special Countdown show on New Year's Eve, we still don't really know who's on either Team ACW or for that matter Team MWA. That changed at the start of this show, as Keith Marshall and Rhett Connors started out the show by wishing the crowd a Merry Christmas. Before they could say much else though, Quinn Murray and a contingent of wrestlers chased them from the ring. Murray, after soaking in a huge chorus of boos, got on the microphone to threaten Team ACW. He bragged that Team MWA would see to it that ACW wouldn't live to see 2011, and how instead it would be the Midwest Wrestling Alliance that would be reborn in the new year. This drew even louder boos. Murray then introduced his teammates for the Cage of Death: the barefoot madman Cornelius Gore, "Highspot" Heath Chambers, Tyler Mason and until this point not aligned with the MWA, Xander Keegan! Murray promised that later tonight not only would he embarrass the other fat chick, Ricky Reno, but the rest of Team MWA would give the fans of ACW a special present: the complete destruction of their heroes in the main event. The group left to a loud chorus of boos. The Gunslingers versus Mark II versus Ellis and Tony Russo ---------------------------------------------------------- The first match of the night was a special triple threat tag team match, with the winners getting a shot at the Southwest Tag Team Champions at Countdown. Not much of a surprise in the earlygoing, the rough and tumble Gunslingers pounding and chopping away on all four of their opponents with their now trademark brawling tactics. An inverted atomic drop into an overhead suplex dumped one of the Russos on their head for a near pinfall, but it was broken up by a lunging Mark Carney. Sloane sent Carney flying over the top rope as a result, and then went back to beating on Ellis Russo. But somewhere in the midst of it all, the upstarts of Mark II were able to score the upset victory after an enzuigiri kick from Workman propelled Tony Russo into a small package! And before either of the Gunslingers could react, the match was over. WINNERS: Mark II The crowd exploded as Workman and Carney celebrated their stunning victory, and fled the ring before the irate Gunslingers could get their hands on them. Taking their frustrations out on the Russos, Sloane punctuated their frustration with a standing lariat on Ellis. Danny Holden versus H'Allen Oates --------------------------------- Holden, the rookie wrestling machine who to this point had dominated his opponents with a vast array of holds and maneuvers, showed once again why the wrestling world is beginning to take notice of him. Another textbook dismantling, with Holden focusing on the arm of his opponent. At one point in the match he bent Oates' arm on the mat and stomped straight down on the elbow joint, causing H'Allen to scream in pain. A curbstomp variation to the arm set up moments later for the armbar submission, and it took no time at all for Oates to tap out. WINNERS: Danny Holden Danny Holden left the ring the moment the bell rang again, the usual show of disrespect by the rookie and as a result the crowd booed him loudly again. The boos got louder as Genya Okutsu made his surprising return to Alamo Championship Wrestling next, with his wife Keiko Shimoda again by his side. Genya wished the fans happy holidays and then announced he and his wife had reconciled over the break and were "more in love than ever". This drew a negative reaction from the fans, but when the lights went out the crowd gasped. And on their return, standing in the ring was the Omen which drew a HUGE pop! Omen made another of his famous prophesies when he told Okutsu "Your union will soon bring pain." Genya took a swing at the masked luchador, kicking off the next match. Genya Okutsu versus The Omen ---------------------------- The former Southwest Heavyweight Champion took it to his smaller opponent early in the match, but it wasn't long before the Omen caught Genya with a hard kick to the face and began to take over with high risk offense. Okutsu did his best to keep up, catching Omen with a top rope gutbuster that knocked the wind out of him near the end of the match. The end came with Omen draped across the ropes and Keiko gesturing wildly like she's about to slap him. But when she spins around to gesture to the crowd first, Omen catches Genya with a trip and causes him to fall into the ropes. Shimoda spins and SLAPS the taste out of her husband's mouth, rattling him and leaving him prone to the Mark Of The Beast for the pinfall loss. WINNER: The Omen Post-match Genya screamed at his wife, blaming her for losing the match, and stormed off leaving a stunned Keiko in the middle of the ring. But as she turned to leave shortly after her husband, a tiny smile crept onto her face. Estrogen versus The New Throbbing Mattress Kittens -------------------------------------------------- A battle of the two newest tag teams to the women's division, as the twins took on Jayde and Kyra in a wild brawl that quickly got out of hand. A miscommunication between the sisters led to a KOKORO Cutter from Griffen for the pinfall, but soon the ring filled up with bodies as Taylor MacKenzie ran out from the back and was soon joined by the members of Lightning Quick, Skull N' Bones and Rosalee Perez! The eight attackers overwhelmed Estrogen as the Cordovas escaped the ring, and soon Jayde and Braddock were forced out to the floor as well. WINNER: Estrogen After the ring was restored to order, Rhett Connors stood up and announced to the crowd as well as to the ringful of women's wrestlers that at Countdown in six days, "Wild Animal" Sarah Mayson would make her long awaited return to ACW and prove once again why she was the queen of the Alamo thanks to what she was calling a Dirty Dozen Match. "I Want It All" hit the PA system next, to an overwhelming chorus of boos. The remaining two thirds of the Players Club, Cody Jones and "Slick" Ricky Reno, entered the arena and Reno was dressed in plain black and red ring gear with no NFC logos in sight. Jones informed the crowd that Romeo was still fired and definitely not coming back, but in the spirit of the holidays he was offering Reno the chance to join Team ACW and rejuvenate his stagnant career. The pep talk fired Reno up, who vowed "Bros before hoes." "Slick" Ricky Reno versus Quinn Murray -------------------------------------- Reno was immediately assaulted by Murray, who leapt into the match and pummelled his opponent, slamming him into the corner and hitting a high arcing back bodydrop. Jones screamed at Reno to get his head in the game, and for a little while it worked with the former NFC member ducking a kick from Murray and attacking Quinn's legs. A catapult into the ringpost gave Reno a near three count, and the crowd for the first time in a long long time fully supported Rick as he tried for the figure-four leglock. Murray howled in pain, eventually fighting to the ropes for the forced break. Jones began to gloat openly in Murray's face from the outside, which led to Quinn delivering a baseball slide dropkick right into Jones on the floor. Reno tried to go after Murray to save his leader, but a cheap shot by Murray and Reno was driven into the ringpost face first. Quinn dragged him back into the ring and hit the Fatal Frame for the win. WINNER: Quinn Murray Much like a week ago with Romeo, Cody Jones proceeded to fire Ricky Reno from the Players Club as well as from Team ACW. Jones told Reno: "Go join your boyfriend under the mistletoe on the unemployment line. Merry Christmas, you're fired!" as he stewed with anger, at which point St. George and the Dragon made their way out. The Team ACW co-captains got in each other's faces, arguing about Jones' decision. St. George demanded to know who Cody was going to put on Team ACW now that No Fat Chicks had been summarily dispatched. Jones just shrugged and told him "Not to worry, champ. I've got it under control." After Jones left, the Southwest Tag Team Champions made their way out for the main event. Cornelius Gore/Xander Keegan/Heath Chambers/Tyler Mason versus St. George and the Dragon/Jamie Kidd/"Overkill" Joey Malone -------------------------------------------------------------- All hell broke loose between the eight wrestlers, with not a shred of order to the match. Gore and St. George brawled up the aisle as the other six men battled inside the ring, neither team getting a chance to go for the cover until late in the match when Quinn Murray reappeared and wrapped a chair around the skull of Adam Drake. But before Mayson could steal the pin Cody Jones emerged from the crowd and took the referee out. Now the brawl kicked off again 5 men deep, and ultimately a Templar's Spear from the ACW Champion set up a Joey Malone 450 splash for the pinfall win over Keegan. WINNERS: St. George/Dragon/Kidd/Malone As Team MWA left following the match, the four winners and Jones stood in the ring. St. George got on the microphone and asked his co-captain if he was ready to name Jamie and Joey to Team ACW for the Cage of Death in six days. Jones stared at the tag champs and thought for a minute, then stood in between Kidd and Malone, raising their arms. As the crowd roared with delight, three men jumped out of the audience. One of the men was the shady "Hoff" we've seen over the last couple of weeks, the other two clearly wrestlers as they slid into the ring and delivered twin axehandles into the backs of Joey and Jamie. The crowd screamed as the unknown men grabbed the champs and hurled them over the top rope to the outside as Jones held St. George and Drake back with a big grin on his face. Then, taking the microphone from a stunned James St. George, Jones told them: "Meet your new partners, champ." Cody introduced the newcomers as "Marvelous" Michael Taylor and "Nasty" Nick Hunter, the Glamour Boys, and their manager Robert Hofstedder Junior. Taylor and Hunter forced a handshake with their Team ACW partners, and the show came to a close with the new fivesome standing uneasily together. Bigtime surprises abound here in San Antonio tonight, with two surprise additions to Team ACW and a fairly major upset in Mark II getting the title shot over the Gunslingers. Sarah Mayson's imminent return generated a lot of buzz too, all of which is going to make Countdown an event not to miss. Merry Christmas everyone! |
