Thoughts:

Fontana had a tough spot, effectively being a tweener until Boiling Point goes down and we see what side he's officially stepped to... and well, he did a great job of it. As the face side, he built up HVD in a way that made him a very credible, dangerous opponent. As the heel side, he called him a puss and made him out to be cowardly. He walked a very fine line like a poetic gymnast and stuck the landing. WOO! Good job.

Sammy Knight's promo was the best of his PVW tenure. An original idea, at least in the last few years that was executed well and told a story. Seemed to step out of his comfort zone a little and it paid off.

Wow, Biz blew off JDM and Houlihan in a freakin' promo. The balls on this guy. Short, but succinct. Would've liked to see more. For the record, "I've said it before and I'll say it again... the time for talking is over." Is a REALLY poor line. "I know I said no more talking, but I'm gonna talk more to say there's no more talking. Who's that talking? I said no more talking! Oh wait, it's me. Talking." ...sorry to Nitpick, Shaun. Just been watching a lot of Madagascar with my son.

Hartt's was good, but seemed to unravel right at the very end. Probably the best 7/8ths of a promo I've seen from him, just wish the ending had been a bit stronger. The empty threat at the end just didn't resonate with me.

Craven: Wow... I LOVED this one. A particular line really hit me: "to be a monster is to live life like a storm, never fully in control, struggling with the worst of what you are." ...Man, was that good. This feud, to me, means that if Craven is not in the world title picture now, he should be in the same sentence after. Just... man, this was great. Probably RP of the card.

Freeman and Wright were both good. I just want to see more background on both characters. And yes, this is probably my newness, but I think the char development will push them much much further up after BP.

Seiger's was a good homage to a fairly standards "Here comes Mr. Awesome" promo that WWE uses. ...I can't believe it, but I actually liked it. Cheers to you.

Uncle Frank's are always short, but never boring. Again, I always want more from this guy. And maybe that's the point. He's Costanza-ing me.

Max and Sal was good, but I think they set such a high bar in my head I overhyped them in my own thoughts. Again, not to say that this wasn't a very good promo. I was just used to great. And the fact that they even said, IN PROMO at the end that it wasn't normal for them, makes me think they may have been having an off day.

Chuckled out loud at Daniels'. Very good stuff that painted the exact picture I was hoping for.

HVD's didn't really promote the match, but sure a shit added layers to HvD. I dug it. Dug it a lot.

...alright, work calling. More to come.

This was a really great RP packet! It was PACKED with lots of great RP's! I am shocked there is not more talk going on! To help get some talk going while we wait for Crowe to give us the rest of his thoughts *sobs* (joking JC, put down that inflatable cartoon hammer) here are my top 10 favorite RP's from this show!

10-Masked Maniac
[HAHHA! This was great! Really, if there was some kind of small time fed Maniac would probably be a champion of some sort and it would be totally justified. These promos are too good for a jobber haha. I dug the heck out of this!]

09-HVD
[Woah! That was really interesting! The last RP had some of this going on and now .. WOah! What is going on? I suspect something is brewing! Something bigger than we've seen so far going on. Something is being planted here for the next cycle. I can't wait to see! Very interesting stuff!]

08-Max & Sal
[I am feeling them. These last two promos from them, they're going to a more serious place that they needed to go to. They really put over the cage, brought up their victory of L&G so many cycles ago and how everything has sort of led to this point. They sold the match well and I can't wait to see who walks out of the Cow Palace with the PVW Tag team championshps!]

07-Marcus Manson
[Woah! Really good promo! He was fired up earlier this cycle when he was 3-way feuding with Spectre & Knight but hasn't quite hit those notes the rest of this cycle but woah! He totally brought it here! A really good promo, I was really into it!]

06-Spectre
[Strong promo! I really liked how he rolled with Knight stating he doesn't fear Spectre all this cycle. He took that and built that up into a pretty effective argument and promo IMO. I really liked this, really strong promo!]

05-Johnny Detson
[WOAH! Seriously good promo! He told a great story, did a great villain's spin on everything and it was a fun, entertaining, engrossing and convincing read! Really seriously good promo!]

04-Gibson Hayes
[Wow! Really good promo and I like that the show opens with the challenger and closes with the champion and that bookending of the face pov vs the heel pov. I think Gibson did a good job of selling the match and playing to AsH's underdog role and trying to corrupt that in the viewers' eyes by saying look.. He's just an old guy who took others chances away. It makes sense in heel logic. I like that. Really good promo!]

03-AsH
[Wow! He really gave this everything and it was a really great promo! All the set up with the aching joints was really effective in painting him stronger as the underdog than he already is painted as. He touched on everything he needed to, hit all the right notes, and really made you want to believe because it seems he has no chance. Really great promo IMO!]

02-Perry Fontana
[HOLY MOLY! That was FANTASTIC! Fontana put over HVD, himself, the match, sold it like Ten Million Dollars and sold it some more! He tied all the stories that were going on together between both men and made us see that all these elements were part of the bigger picture that has lead to this moment: American Title on the line-HVD vs Fontana. He took a few digs at HVD but they proved to be digs to set up verbally redeeming HVD basically. Just, fantastic! Incredible promo IMO! FANTASTIC!]

01-William Craven
[HOLY MOLY RAVIOLI SPAGHETTI AND CANOLI!!! INCREDIBLE PROMO! F-ING INCREDIBLE! I don't know what happens when Moze goes to writing Craven. It's always his best written stuff and when the great writing comes together with his great ideas.. wow! I was hooked, I couldn't stop reading. I didn't want it to end! I wanted to hear more! His villain logic of the feud between him and Cole was awesome! I bought it completely! Amazing, amazing, AMAZING promo! I'm really blown away!]

I thought it was a strong showing top to bottom, but if you forced me, I'd have to single out Marcus Manson as my favorite RP of the bunch. He nailed it with this one...and following him was Senor Cloak Dos.

Good job all around though. Best top to bottom packet I've seen in a bit.

Alrighty here... let's see where I left off.

To touch on an earlier point about Supreme Wright. His promo was good, looking to see more in the future. That's for sure. But his use of "Mr. Freeman" over and over was at first EXTREMELY tedious but soon got somewhat hypnotic. Not sure if he meant to do it or if it's a character quirk I didn't before notice. But ...yeah, just wanted to throw that out there.

Marcus Manson: I enjoyed it the first time, but after talking with Dro, I went back and read it again. It really was great and it seems like he may just be gaining some steam To be honest, I'd love to see what Manson could/would do as champion. Get some real character growth in here and stretch outside his comfort zone.

Christopher Black: This character and Jacob Rose continue to impress me. The promo was understated to a T. In fact, it may have been far more effective by simply showing a tired, yet jubilant Black wallowing in his own filth. And while it is pretty much a universal truth that he may have set the bar high on himself... So what? Keep setting that bar high, heel, face... whatever. It forces you to improve and be creative. And let's say he never gets to the height of that heeldom again; He can always use it as fuel to go another direction.

Livestock and Gutch: Odd amounts of foreshadowing. Livestock is effectively protecting a man that the rest of the stable now holds in very low regard. Gutch knows it and is worried, therefore a small rift has formed between them, and a very large problem of lack of confidence on Gutch's part. All this leading into a match up for the tag titles. Does not bode well for the tag champs, but methinks they change, grow, and become even more entertaining.

Nevermind: Hmm. My biggest thing with Nevermind is that if he REALLY cares about nothing, we would never see him. I mean, even speaking aloud proves he cares, doesn't it? If his goal is to prove that the world truly is meaningless and nihilism is the ultimate truth... than he CARES about Nihilism enough to preach it. THAT SAID, it was good, but not great. And perhaps its simply because he IS pigeonholed into this idea. I dunno. Talented writer. Has a good gimmick, if I don't overanalyze, and did the most important thing: Put over his opponent. Just want to see more from him.

Sinister: It kinda meandered a bit and veered left, right, above and below before hitting all the necessary points. By no means a BAD promo, but I felt like he was struggling to find what he was wanting to say and just talking anyways. Room for improvement, but sold the match, sold the Biz, and sold himself. Nothing more can really be asked for.

Detson: "They want me because I'm not a hero, not anymore, I am a leader." Good line, summarized the entire idea. Could've used a fine tooth comb to pull out some little editing problems, but I'm nitpicking. It was a truly entertaining promo, as usual. Detson's bar is extremely high and he keeps managing to raise it and raise it. The last line initially fell flat for me, but after re-reading, it hit the right note. I just wasn't reading it in the right tone the first time.

Cole: To borrow a line from Anchorman "Man, that escalated quickly." "It jumped up a notch, didn't it?" It was a slow build through the whole thing, basically tying up all the issues between Craven and Cole and showing Cole's descent from fear into unbridled hate. Cole, himself, started getting increasingly angrier in promo. A perfect bit of meta-theater.

Spectre: *See Dro's* ... Alright, fine. Can't do that. It was a great promo and the entire idea of "You win the war, but you'll lose this match" was a VERY interesting take on the entire thing. If I win? You won. If YOU win, I've won. No matter what, Spectre's a winner, and given his sick-ass enjoyment of pain, he's gonna be one happy camper.

SCD: Wow, heavy opening to the promo. And the all-black SCD makes me hope we get to see something different... something... ANGRY from SCD. And instead, he flips it on us. He's remorseful. Even remorseful for his hate of Black. He actually APOLOGIZES to the world for attempting to take revenge. Man. Great stuff. Black should be afraid. This part is like NEO getting up after being shot in the chest. I expect nothing less than a 810 degree splash, now that he has NEO powers. Oh wait, hold on. Forgot to say HOLY MOLY RAVIOLLI AND CANOLI WITH A SIDE OF STROMBOLI IN A CALZONEY ON A PONY PULLING A ZAMBONI WITH A BROKEN BONE-Y TO AN ICE CREAM CONE-Y. HE'S NO PHONY, HE'LL GIVE YOU A LOAN-Y.

HA, beat THAT, Dro-ny!

Gibson Hayes: WHAT A DICK! Ha ha ha. Awesome promo, that, using heel logic, does actually make AsH look like a bit of a prick. Kinda leapfrogged all these other deserving mofos and just like that, Gibson Hayes instills doubt in the rest of the world. Bastardo. Fantastic Promo, good visual (snapping the watch shut) and even managed to sell AsH. What a feat.

Pretty G-D impressive set of promos fellas.

Top 5
1. Craven
2. Fontana
3. SCD
4. Hayes
5. Tie: Sammy Knight, Spectre, and Black.

It is indeed a character quirk for Wright. A cookie to you for noticing it. He'll address anyone as Mr or Miss. If he doesn't, it means you've pissed him off somehow or you just don't have his respect. It gets pretty hilarious when he has to deal with people who use a moniker, such as when he had to deal with The Polar Bear Stud in IPW.

SW: Mr...

[Supreme frowns for a moment.]

SW: ...Bear Stud.

So, um... I guess we should ensure that Supreme never ends up in some six-man tag against El Pollo Loco and "Da Cow God" Moo then.
Working on new characters you didn't see a decade ago. Honest.

What? He's a nihilist. He's not alone in that. Nihilists just don't tend to get together and agree on interpretations of nihilism because, y'know ... what's the point?
And it was at this moment that the entire world realized, in unison, that tandem bicycles were AWESOME~!

We spent some time in line at Dragon*Con talking about that, IIRC. :-)
