With HOPE showing up and now holding all of the belts, effectively protecting Hayes from a challenge from down the ladder, I was interested in who the various people think of as the top threats to the title in the fed at the moment (and why).

Let's go with top 5.

1. Johnny Detson - Mr. President has done a great job with the Daniels feud...and with that being over and done with, he clearly needs something else to focus on.

2. Senor Cloak Dos - Super Babyfaces are always threats when heels hold the title...and SCD is about as superbabyface as you can get in my opinion.

3. William Craven - Let's face it: The big green freak has had high profile feuds against Rick Marley and Rob Cole...and came out of both strong. He's a monster in the ring and has never had a world title shot. He could cause serious problems for someone like Hayes, who's a thinking wrestler.

4. Rob Cole - If there's one guy in the fed currently that can make a claim to the title "Mr. PVW", it's Cole. He's a former champ, he's always in the middle of a war with someone, and he's the sort of guy that could rally the locker room around him.

5. The Spectre - Unlisted on the rankings list, Spectre is the sort of guy that can end up anywhere at any time. His motivations make sense to him, if no one else...but much like the 2 guys on the list above him, he's not someone that would be intimidated by working through a stable to get at someone.

Almost, but not quite on the list: Danny Daniels, Chris Black, Perry Fontana, Sinister

But would Spectre be frowned upon for running into a ring swinging a chair? :spam:

Honestly, if Spectre hits the ring and he's just swinging a chair, I think the PVW brass feels like they got off lucky.

"You mean there were no bladed weapons involved? Oh thank God!"

I'm disappointed by the lack of fire or face melting acid. :(

Specter's gimmick doesn't rally allow for fire...the whole darkness thing.

Acid though...yesssss...

<makes a note>

I'm not exactly sure why PVW does these rankings.

Only one top challengers matters next cycle; Johnny Detson. It doesn't matter in what order the rest of the roster would appear in.

Course, for the fun of it all, a list of "top threats to the PPV Rumble" seems more intriguing to me.
That list would inevitably topped by Seņor Cloak Dos' pure babyfacedom... if only Dro wanted the spot!

At a time like this, would running heel vs heel even make sense in the current HOPE vs the world environment of PVW? Johnny Detson is going to be the man that will save PVW?

Maybe if he turns face...

Heel v. Heel works just fine in the current environment, IMO...and for some heels (Craven being a good example), it almost ALWAYS makes sense. Let's be honest, when you're crazy like he is, you don't really have a grasp on roles anyway.

Well, guys like Craven and Spectre are entirely different from your everyday heel. They're more like forces of nature rather than just a big meanie that annoys people. :)

I actually think the strengthening of HOPE at the end of BP makes a heel vs heel element feasible. HOPE isn't just about beating up the good guys... they want control of everything. They are a threat to everyone. Especially someone in Detson's role, being the CEO and now former President... him stepping forward to defend "his" promotion from the too-strong evil forming doesn't seem incredibly illogical to me.

He could even spin it into a heat simmer with the Daniels thing... "While our so-called President is running around like an idiot appealing to the masses, I'm the one actually leading the charge to prevent my promotion from being overrun by HOPE. Who's the true president now?" Keeps the Daniels story alive but in the background while Detson makes a run at the title, and lets Detson avoid a full face turn while still being the pseudo-face in a feud with Hayes... that seems believable to me.
Working on new characters you didn't see a decade ago. Honest.

True.

Jer has a character archetype matrix that he put together someplace that's fairly amusing...both of them qualify as the Monster Heel archetype (with Spectre adding the Diabolical archetype as often as not).

Jer: Any chance you can post that someplace?

Detson is a loveable, little scamp, though. Who wouldn't root for him?
