Nevermind annihilated Manson. His was so much better than mine :P

Cow and Chicken was entertaining again this week.

Lineage did a good job establishing Vermeer - tho I'm already waiting for the inevitable breakdown and seeing Kruger destroy Vermeer

Uncle Frank was a great read as always.

Spectre was good, but not mind blowing.

That's all i've read thus far. Otherwise I skimmed it :P

I have to admit. The lack of a timely Pickycast has made my morning commute less enjoyable.

After I read that packet...I feel a bit out of my league with Seiger.

Oh, well. Time to step up my game.

I agree that the focus so far the focus has been on Vermeer, as that is major part of the gimmick. For the next RP I will try to make Kruger more compelling apart from having him be just the silent enforcer.

There is a seed for a break-up with these characters due to the clash of their personalities but, honestly, that is more of a fail-safe if I totally crash in the writing of these characters. Hopefully, I can establish the current dynamic and make it work.

No kidding. We may have to break out the Frats and EoC for a joint promo in order to prove to ourselves we've still got it, COB.

It's the weirdest phenomenon in PVW where just being around the level of talent subconsciously raises your own. I know I'm writing my best stuff ever here... Weaver's RP was the fastest I could put it out (11 minutes) before having to take the boss to the Pentagon... and 'cuz it's PVW, was still one of the best ones I've done.

I think it's maybe 2 or 3 more cards 'til the new guys feel the same jump up, if they're not already.

Most impressive is the sheer amount of RPs. Goddamn. I'll have to re-read again, but off the top of my head I liked, after my own stuff of course:

- Gold Rush. I like the dynamic of the student and the teacher. I kind of expected Regnigh to fly off the handle, but the story about getting pinned by the three subject notebook went the other way. I wonder how much rope Wilson has to hang himself with.

- Derek Weaver. It's only a matter of time until he snaps and rips Gibson's arm off. Or, until he embraces his current plight in life and then becomes REALLY dangerous.

- Hayes and HvD. Not a big fan of HvD, but certainly it sets up another crack in HOPE. Again, interersting dynamic between the two.

- Livestock and Friends. Bubba and Todd Johnstone might be two of my favorite characters in PVW. Real mans gotsta eat indeed.

- Legacy. A tough love approach to the teacher and student thing. On another tangent, I hope Alex Wallace is tormenting Rob Cole.

- William Craven. THE MEATGRINDER WILL BE REMEMBERED FOREVER! I'm hoping that in an effort to impress Dex, Craven shows up in a Rick Steiner-like wrestling singlet and headgear, and does nothing but single leg takedowns and side headlocks for the entire match.

Love the participation the last two packets. Ones that stood out to me.

Adrian Freeman: May be in the minority, but I dig Freeman. I have since his time in AWA.

Rob Cole: Droppin' names left and right! The line, "You're facing a man who has been rejected... a man who called himself an "Outcast" because 1996 was a year of men "Made in America", a year of British loyalists waving their flags, a year where truckers held belts and beautiful Barbies led heroes and villains to the ring and a guy like me just didn't quite fit in" was spectacular. Gotta love the history references. Thanks, Mark. :)

Derek Weaver: Solid, solid, solid.

Craven: The other line of the packet with people will remember the Meatgrinder forever. Way to turn that poke around, Moze.

Gibson Hayes: His solo one was my favorite of the bunch. A win for Gibson is a win for America. A silenced Gibson is a chance for the rest of us in PVW. Good stuff, Picky.

As many thoughts as I can get down, in hopes to get motivated into matchwriting.

Berserkers: I'm just not sold on the team. I know people are high on them, but the back and forth between the two of them just doesn't hit home with me. Not a knock on them as much as it just doesn't resonate with me. A consistent promo from them that builds up Max and Sal. Great for the face vs. face dynamic.

The Biz: Again, just didn't ring well with me. I love that he sold the frog stuff, I love that he sold Daniels as president; those points were great. But something about using the phrase 'beat people up' and going through various frogs... I expect a little more out of the Biz.

Tracy Hudson: I know that PVW isn't huge on breaking the forth wall in promos, especially in the brackets, but I _AM_. I was amused from the very beginning of this... and Tracy selling the fact that he's a father was done well. The middle part going over his history was a LITTLE long, but the symbolism of shaving one's head as a fresh start isn't lost on me. I dig it. People underestimate what changing a wrestler's music, look, or nickname can do to change the tone of his cycle. And kudos for immediate character development in a promo! First of a few on this card.

Rob Cole: An interesting idea that I feel might be riding the line between normal promo and the handler's thoughts on people criticizing the character. Oh, and a free joke while I'm at it: I'd be sorry if I was facing Gionet, too. I think the promo ran a bit long, but it helped us understand Rob's current frame of mind. Ditto on the previous statement of the history lesson, I enjoyed that. And crying to end the promo added a level of emotion leading into a relatively overlooked match... should be interesting.

Legacy: Short and sweet, drove forward the dynamic between the team and the manager.

Freeman: Again, short and to the point, but more depth behind the words here. And the lines about wanting something, deserving it, and having it... I loved those. Good promo.

Spectre: I'm sensing a theme. Succinct, laconic. Spectre gets out what he has to say without rehashing everything over and over.

Danny Daniels: I go back and forth on him a lot. At some points I really do not like the character because he's off the wall without doing anything new. At other times, he uses the character's quirks to further his angle almost effortlessly. This fell in between... not really sure what else to say beyond wishing that he either fully committed to being ludicrous or serious.

Talion: Ugh, rainy graveyard? Fine. Going to ignore it... because the message he speaks is actually quite good. Talking about his own anger costing him his family is a good touch and adds intrigue behind just who this guy is. And I always enjoy the idea of "I'm going to save you by beating you into a coma."

Lineage: Starting off by mislabeling showcase as burning effect hit me, but moving on... Vermeer, while somewhat stale to start with picks it up into a very entertaining little diatribe about Cow and Chicken. May be undervaluing them a bit, but as a comedy tag team, they can recover very easily. All in all, a fantastic little showcase of Vermeer.

Quartermann: The idea of him living under a bridge if he fails in PVW is an interesting one. Certainly lends credence to his will to win, I suppose. The piece, as a whole, was as good as you could hope for in an introduction. That said, I'm hoping to see a lot more as it goes along.

Hartt: Show some consistency, God Dammit! The character sparked up a lot in his feud with Nevermind. The beginning of this promo was good and then flickered. I _WANT_ to see this character, these days. And more than anything, I want to see him at his best level CONSISTENTLY! _THIS_ is the face PVW needs, dammit! I DEMAND IT!

L&G: Aaaaah, probably the best of the card so far. Livestock as a singles wrestler is intriguing from so many angles and Moze just writes him so damn well. And I keep thinking of the idea that Gutch actually takes his off time seriously and comes back in shape and motivated. Get this man some PEDs!

Heath Dawson: There were nuggets of entertainment here and there, but overall failed to captivate me. Next card I'm sure it'll be much better.

GH/HVD: Showed more cracks in the facade of HOPE, and especially the tenuous relationship that the men have. If GH is worried about Donkerhardt, he isn't showing it. If Donkerhardt is feeling sick about the issue, he isn't letting Gibson know. Both men maintaining pokerfaces here.

Black: Fuck me is this character entertaining. EVERY TIME. Kudos. Didn't take an hour to read but still said EVERYTHING about the character.

Weaver: Who the fuck let this guy in here? Hack.

Nevermind: See: Black. Great promo.

Gionet: That's it, I finally have to come out and say it. He's consistent... and that's not necessarily a good thing. Larry Gionet, the PVW Warrior, has hung in the same purgatory in PVW for a long time. The character says the same basic stuff every time, heel, face, tweener... doesn't matter. He's a technical wizard who'll take your ligaments home with him along with your respect.

Who cares? We've seen it all before, and chances are if you've read any Gionet promo, you've read this one.

I don't mean to be cruel about it, but I used to talk with Mike and want to see him succeed again. I'd like for some MAJOR character development. Have major adversity, face fears, change style, suffer an injury, meet a someone, adopt a kid, lose a family member, find God, LOSE God, question your ideals... BE VULNERABLE; Just do SOMETHING to make Gionet different somehow.

The talent is there, but it's stuck in neutral while the car's engine revs and revs. C'mon, Mike. YOU CAN DO IT!

Johnny Detson: Speaking of character fucking development... the formerly suave and slick Detson looks to be doubting himself, and makes for a superbly interesting read. Bless you, Errol, for moving this character forward EVERY time I read him. And this wasn't even your best stuff, man. Great promo!

Manson: Holy hell, MORE IMPROVEMENT. Berger, if you keep this up (and IMO, keep from empty threats) Manson won't be contending for the TV title after Knight. He'll be wearing it... or catapulted to the NA title.

Gold Rush: Aaaaah man, I was smiling up until I saw Goosfraba. Dammit, man. Ok, starting to smile again... Ha, pretty funny little promo without trying too hard at all. Damn, man. I'll be reading Gold Rush next time, for sure.

Cow and Chicken: God bless you for making me laugh through this... not too much comedy these days, and I surely miss it.

Ok, guys... more to come later.

Fontana: I know Flouze was cranky-pants about not having a match and thought his promo suffered for it... maybe it did, as it wasn't focused, but definitely helped further the idea that Perry is VERY uncomfortable being a good guy, especially after the hypocrisy about his father. I also loved the idea that while Weaver loves seeing the world in shades of grey, Fontana sees it in red. Loved that.

Uncle Frank: I chuckle and shake my head his promos so often that I'm not sure what else he can do to say so consistently entertaining and consistently WRONG feeling. God damn this is a good character with a good writer behind him.

Max and Sal: These guys too! chuckles and headshakes the whole time. Only they don't feel wrong. They feel like a great face tag team should... love them and another very good promo here.

Dawson and Sieger: I like Sieger, but this one failed to captivate again... it started running long and that didn't help, either. Looking forward to the rebound from this one.

Mystery Person: Is Mysterious. Good promo, if not riding the line between mysterious and cliche... Though it feels as though it was rushed and I feel that a pending on-card will do wonders.

Hayes: Love this guy. Seems to have hit a stride of legitimate entertainment without resting on his laurels. He's inside the comfort zone of the character and it shows with how flawlessly he speaks... though its very obvious that events swirling around him will push Picky and the character more than we've seen before.

Sin and Dos: Dos is continuing to be his usual amazing self and actually brought Sin up a few notches in this one. Senor Cloak Dos for Presid---what do you mean he's not legal? He's got a working Visa, doesn't he? Well, dammit....

Craven: The last line kind of said everything. With Craven gone, why does one feel so worried? He hasn't specifically put his sights on anyone yet, hasn't thrown his hat in with HOPE or Detson or against the lot of them. And yet, everyone wants to know his next move. Love this direction and glad to see the amazing character finally getting the props he deserves.

Oh ... the Burning Effect name got stuck in my brain since I have been reading the archives a lot lately. I hate mistakes like that.
