Lineage: Starting off by mislabelingshowcase as burning effect hit me, but moving on...

Oh ... the Burning Effect got stuck in my brain since I have been reading the archives a lot lately. I hate mistakes like that.

It would probably help if the website header was changed for the RP section too.

I like it... Any time we have some chatter going on here ... and not just about the Meatgrinder or the British Yakuza then it's good!

What if we put the British Yakuza IN the Meatgrinder though? :P

In response to JC's response:

One thing that fascinates me about PVW is the wide array of opinions in the fed. For the most part, I really don't care for people talking about what titles they won in other feds. Maybe it's that goddamn EMWCPrez and his "if it didn't happen here, it didn't happen" philosophy, but the point is what happened elsewhere shouldn't matter here. And I'm not knocking Manson, in particular, but I just think on the whole people talking about other titles in other feds doesn't add anything to what's going on in PVW.

In fact, I think Manson's RP would have been better had he NOT mentioned UEW and all the titles he won. Interestingly, I thought Cole's mention of all the places he's been was a pretty good use of fed name dropping.

The other hot button issue with me is feuds revolving around people's family, and I guess this goes back to e-w being what people think WWE/TNA/ROH should be about. In my perfect wrestling utopia, wrestling is treated as a legitimate sport and people are competing for titles and championships and rankings, where things like that matter. Bill Watts would have loved me. Sure, adding in personal issues is something that spikes a feud from hot to molten, but when everyone does it, it gets old. (And yes, I know I was guilty of it in UWF with the Kinsey/Vasquez feud, but the whole point of that was how personal the issue really was, after however many years between people who were best friends.)

Talking about family doesn't automatically equal character development to me, and likewise you can develop a character and show depth without mentioning dead brothers and whatnot. Although I wasn't blown away by it, Detson totally developed his character with the doctor's visit and by showing just how banged up he is, with the implication that he's gonna go after Gibson anyway, ankle be damned. That's character development related to wrestling, building adversity that surely mastermind Hayes will use against him.

When everyone's bringing in family members and this and that, it loses my interest because then we're getting to General Hospital stuff. I mean, really, I hope Rob Cole's family is banned from all future PVW events. After a while, it stops being impactful, because we've seen it before. Same with tables, chairs, barbed wire or anything else. De-sensitizing. And right now, I think I'm de-sensitized to everyone's wives, kids, fathers and brothers.

Just my opin.

Manson: Holy hell, MORE IMPROVEMENT. Berger, if you keep this up (and IMO, keep from empty threats) Manson won't be contending for the TV title after Knight. He'll be wearing it... or catapulted to the NA title.

Gold Rush: Aaaaah man, I was smiling up until I saw Goosfraba. Dammit, man. Ok, starting to smile again... Ha, pretty funny little promo without trying too hard at all. Damn, man. I'll be reading Gold Rush next time, for sure.

What specifically did you think of as improvement? Because I thought this was weaker than some of the more recent stuff.

Also, glad you enjoy Gold Rush :)

The character itself seems to be moving forward in that he's focused, he's not throwing out "I'll break your back and then pee up your nose" threats. He just seems to be narrowed down, has his eyes on the prize and we're getting more to know the man rather than the persona that he puts on. It's like seeing behind the mask, for me.

Manson came off for a while as thinking he was the toughest motherofpearl on the roster, completely downplaying Craven and Cole, etc. He seemed to think himself invulnerable and without tempering that, it seemed a little overdone.

The new, realistic Manson, a man who's using his intelligence without death threats... a man who understands that he _ISN'T_ invulnerable, despite what he may say, is a very compelling guy. Hell, the idea of Manson suddenly REALIZING he isn't the toughest MFer on the block would be a VERY interesting gimmick, IMO.

Dunno if you disagree or I interpreted it completely incorrectly.

Doran:

Yeah, I think this is an agree to disagree style thing. I didn't necessarily enjoy the bringing up the past bits from Manson (or anyone else, really) but it doesn't mean that Manson didn't enjoy definite improvement from the work he had 4-6 months ago. He's improved a load and I like reading him now.

The families thing definitely stems from my own little world. Having a family of my own makes me realize, daily, just how much they change and define you. To my friends I'm a very focused, results driven guy who isn't afraid to throw a brutal insult or a fist if necessary. To my family, I'm an easy going guy who's lazy when he can be, and wouldn't hurt a fly. The dichotomy to me is just... fascinating in anyone.

One of my best friends is has the most acerbic, jaded, brutal sense of humor when he's out with me, but when he's around his family he's Mr. Flowery words, rainbows and unicorn farts for all. So seeing this brought forward in EW resonates with me.

And yeah, doing ANY angle too much gets old. That's why Derek's boxing up of his family pictures was the last time he'll bring them up *directly* for a long time.

Glad to discuss it civilly and--- wait, I'm getting word.

Apparently I have to call you a c**t and threaten your family and say I'm a better writer than you ever were and --- wait, I'm getting more...

Oh, and challenge you to a match judged by a third party and--- wait.

I'm better at video games than you. Also, all of your favorite sports teams are inferior and your liking of them makes your decision making inferior.

Sorry, man. Rules are rules.

What makes this funny is that it's actually true.

And, to JC, obviously you never knew Frank Seeley. That was about average for him.
