You're right, the strat doesn't determine the winner, but if you come up with something that makes the fedhead say "Oh, wow, that was clever" and he wants to write that ending, chances are, you've influenced the win.

For example, look at the example that was posted above your post. No offense to rcole, but that's all generic window dressing which, as a fedhead, wouldn't sell me on his deserving the win.

But, in a few paragraphs, if you use the match, the circumstances, things that happened going into the match and a clever climax that will steal the show, chances are, it's going to happen and you'll move up the chain because of it. That can all happen without an entrance (you already have one on your app unless something special is happening in this one), ring psychology, move sets, etc. That's all on your application.

For the most part, if you don't give the writer something really exciting to write, chances are, they're going to do their own thing, make it their own match and then you'll read about the results. If your strat inspires both fedhead and matchwriter, chances are you'll win, chances are you'll be booked again. That keeps happening and chances are, you'll have a title before long. And it can all be done in just a few paragraphs.

Even in the cooperative setting that we operate under now, a lot of the blowoff matches end up as competitive...and strats, while they won't necessarily win the feud for you, can often help a fed head determine a tie breaker, and always help the match writer with flavor on how your character should be property presented.

Oh, I don't deny that strats are useful and can give people the edge especially in the rubber match. I always strat for every match I'm in, regardless of situation. I just don't think the omission of things like psychology and spots for/against solely in favor of a short strat with one good idea is necessarily gonna win you the match. I do agree that a load of moves and going in obscene depth on your psychology isn't necessarily as helpful as the time spent doing it... but a truly good strat encompasses everything, and not just any single element. The idea that anything else in a strat is "window dressing" is what I was commenting about... I wouldn't at all say that a really creative idea relating to the particular match isn't a very useful element, just that it's a part of a good strat and not necessarily the entire strat.

Oh, I'll add to that... if you have a short strat without even the slightest semblance of psychology or storytelling, but you do include ONE hugely awesome spot... as a writer, I don't think you deserve the win. I will do as I'm told by Brian, but you're not going to look very good in the process. If I'm working with another strat that has great psychology and great usage of teh story, but teh guy just couldn't think of spots... I'm going to think of spots for him by using his app. I'm going to go all out for that handler.

What _teh_ hell?

And QUIET, Jerod. You weren't even in PVW when the Meatgrinder went down and I still say it would've been a good match IRL.

Also ... y'know what? It was memorable. In the future people are going to basically lump it in with blimps and other ewrestling-related nonsensical events that become our mythology.

What I like to get over in a strat...

Brief summary of my guy's mindset and whatever angle he's currently involved in. Backburner stuff that the commentators can then mention.

What the overall target is on my opponent (legs? neck? bloody the guy's face? groin? Flirting with the hot valet instead?).

I work in 3 spot ideas for a regular match, 3-5 for PPV. Make sure at least one of those spots has the opponent getting one up on you.

Possible ending spot.

Any aftermath stuff or possible loose ends (how is my manager assisting this week?)

Do I go for a "special" entrance? Only if I think it fits and I have a good idea. I procrastinate enough as it is.
And here's where I pretend to be a writer...

Now, as the New Guy, you have the advantage in that you can keep your initial strats relatively simple. You have yet to establish an upcoming feud or angle, so you don't need to worry about that. Right now, you probably need to just focus on what will make your boy stand out.

Hot-shot aerialist? Anti-hero Body Slam master? Goofy submission expert? Masked Bro stealin' hos?
And here's where I pretend to be a writer...

A) It was stupid
B) It'll be regarded as a dumb match and not fondly but more of a don't do that
C) It would only work for a garbage fed and even then it doesn't have light tubes
D) The Meatgrinder was very fucking stupid
E) NEVER AGAIN
Have I told you how much I loathe your continued existence today?

I believe strats are unnecessary since in my experience, they're almost completely ignored anyway. My strats usually consisted of:

Mindset, which has been covered
Entrance
Moveset from my app

and a note to the matchwriter telling him I trusted him to not make me look stupid.

--

I've fedheaded and seen strats that were plotted out to such ridiculous degrees that if I didn't firmly believe a person shouldn't write a match with their guy in it, I would have made them write the match themselves.
