I agree with Picky... while I don't feel any sympathy for the character, having him out-heel the biggest heel group on the stage right now would have been a terrible idea. And the lack of vulnerability is what I've primarily complained about with the character itself... nothing ever EVER bothers him. And I don't care what his gimmick is or how much he "wouldn't do that"... something is going to hurt, something is going to break him down, and it makes angles with Craven much more exciting when there's a real legitimate threat to him.

Does this make Craven look weak? Nope. Does it make him a face? Nope. Does it give him something to work with in one direction or another... yes. It should be an interesting challenge throughout the cycle, but I think it's important for Craven to grow as a character. And this is coming from the last handler to go through a long term feud with Craven.

THE MOO REVIEW

- We open with Derek Weaver and Todd Johnstone. As I said before, Weaver is really growing on me in a big way... he has a uniqueness to him that makes him stand out in my mind. The broken finger thing was, well, cheesy is putting it nicely... but the point was made, and both characters came across as they should have. I'm really enjoying reading Weaver, and really looking forward to the inner turmoil with him and HOPE.

- And it appears Johnny Detson gets the next seat on the Todd Johnstone Show. Todd got that finger splinted up quickly... but kudos to Picky for maintaining the continuity. And for his efforts, Todd gets Johnnykicked. Dude's having a rough show so far. As I said in my post-show thoughts... I was sold on this. I've known Picky and Errol for a decade. I knew there was no chance they were passing up this feud once they committed to it. And I still bit, hook line and sinker. Excellently written by Errol, and yeah even that other guy too. Very believable segment.

- Next up, AsH needs help. And he turns to Picky's favorite refuse-to-turn-face armbar specialist out of desperation, which brings out Derek Weaver. This was a solid segment with good foretelling, and plays a pivotal role in Fontana's development which he desperately needed. I didn't like Weaver's comments in this one quite as much as the first promo, but I still really enjoy the guy. And on the plus side, he didn't break anyone's bones this time. Though I do admit, I'll miss AsH, crazy 90s spelling and all... I liked that character.

- As for the match itself, it was nothing special but it accomplished its purpose. Weaver looks much stronger after decimating the guy who looked good in two consecutive PPV main events. And I'm interested in how a Weaver/Fontana feud could bring out the next phase of Fontana's development. So nothing special in the match itself, but a lot of value in it regardless.

- Dean Hayes sits down with The Loquacious One. I do hope Sin knows that nickname is totally sticking with him. Like, forever. But he's interrupted by The Spectre, in the goth's mission to torment everyone remotely involved in the war with HOPE. TOTALLY digging this angle from Spectre, love it, love it. Sin holds his own though, and I think he did a better job than others gave him credit for holding his "loquaciousness" to a minimum. Can't wait for this match to happen.

- And we transfer... outside? President Daniels is gonna end up getting jumped one of these days, though his mission to completely torment Fred Hoyle is on its way to success. Like Jer, this one caught me a little off-guard... it was probably something that should have been passed along to the match writers to help with continuity, because it's never really mentioned again throughout the show. Unusual segment. I get the point, but didn't come across as well as it could have.

- And the show turns from the Todd Johnstone Show to the Dean Hayes Show, as we get another Hayes interview... this time with inaugural champ Chase Williams. I admit, this did little for me and probably fits better on Showcase or even Shockwave. I wasn't around for the early days of PVW, and I have total appreciation for giving time to a returning World Champ... not a shot on the character or the concept at all, but it just didn't really sell me on the importance of said return.

- Backstage, El Pollo Loco is caught by Lineage. I had a lot of fun with this segment, and like Jer referred to this is exactly the type of thing I need to do with C&C early. That said... the idea was largely Tommy's, so credit where it's due. I am digging on Vermeer so far... I've said before that, even in a heel-heavy fed, PVW desperately needs a good bitch heel and it appears the tag division is gonna provide that. And this segment leads to...

- I said it before, and I'll say it again... I loved this match. Sure, I'm biased as a handler involved... but it did an excellent job of portraying both teams, and both teams are better defined post-match than they were beforehand. Kudos to Trace for this one. And I didn't catch it the first read-through, but there's even multiple mentions of the outdoor venue... I stand corrected. And we end with Gold Rush chasing off Vermeer, leaving his partner high and dry for the face finish. Excellent match.

- And Cole runs into Legacy? Man, Cole is looking like crap these days... the handler's doing an excellent job injecting new life into Cole. I don't even call it selling injuries at this point, he's reforming the character before our eyes. Not sure what the history between Wallace and Cole is, or if it ever even needs to be defined... but this was an excellent way to show Cole's development. And I'm ALWAYS a fan of blending singles and tag guys where it's logical to do so. Very worthwhile segment.

- Next up, Talion... just blows me the hell away. LOVED this. So much more interested in this character than before, and I liked him before. Not as convinced as Jer that it's someone of note under the mask... but it doesn't even need to be. He'll always have us wondering because of this promo. Regardless of whether we know the guy under the mask or not... this was just an excellent job of selling a veteran face who's new to the promotion. One of my favorite promos of the show.

- The Biz gets his shot at President Daniels. And again, The Biz goes down in defeat. And he punishes the crap out of the ref for it. THIS is what I want to see from The Biz. I want to see that frustration coming out, I want to see him develop an edge. I like The Biz, the character has a ton of potential... but it needed a bit of modification, and this is a good step. Strong showing from Daniels, which the character desperately needed, but The Biz saves face excellently. Good midcard match.

- The Dean Hayes Show's next guest... Supreme Wright! I think this is more emotion than I've seen out of Wright in all his other promos combined. Didn't blow me away, but was very solid and helped define the character very well. I think I'm starting to grasp the character Terry's shooting for a bit better. Loving the Freeman/Wright angle, BTW... very old-school in nature, looking forward to the resolution.

- Six-man tag time. And, well... this one just didn't grab me. Which disappointed me, cause as mentioned before I love the Freeman/Wright stipulation, and I'm excited to see how all 6 of these newcomers work out. But I just couldn't really get into this one. Quartermann turning on the other 5 guys was an interesting development, knowing nothing of KQ I don't have any idea what that's all about but I'm intrigued to find out. But the match itself just wasn't my favorite.

- Fred Hoyle bought his own election advertisement. I got a chuckle from it.

- And backstage, Kevin Quartermann is a house of fire. His style is impetuous. His defense is impregnable. He wants to eat your children, dammit! I didn't like this nearly as much as everyone else seemed to... but I bought it as suitable explanation for what just happened. A good loose cannon character can be a value to PVW, so I'll look forward to the continuation of the character.

- Spectre is a good, noble man... why can people not see that? He only wants to help Senor Cloak Dos! This was a good segment, and I continue to love where this Spectre angle is going. Dos and Sin are doing an excellent job of playing the faces, with Spectre as the foil... this is turning out to be a very believable way to have a heel "join" the fight against HOPE without actually doing so. Loving this angle.

- Next up, Nevermind against Marcus Manson. Boy, I wanted this match to rock.. LOVE what Nevermind is doing, his entourage, his ratcheting up the "don't give a crap" attitude... Manson getting lost in his Uncle Frank issues, but playing the badass brawler. It came off as a little short, but for what it was it was a solid match. And post-match, Uncle Frank gets burned big time by Manson... that seemed a bit overboard, actually, powering out of the finisher before killing him... but knowing Steinar, he probably stratted that so I won't question what he and Berger are going for here.

- And now we're going back inside? Wow... well, OK. At least they get autographs from President Daniels... and Chance Holliday? Didn't they get into it last set of shows? And Danny is surprised when Chance is a dick about it? Then write on his face with a marker? Daniels totally deserved getting punched in the jaw. Losing faith in President Daniels, and saw nothing really from Chance to judge him on. Didn't love this segment at all. But at least we're back in the building now.

- Wow, the fall of Rob Cole is turning epic. I did get the "concussion" thing much more strongly here than before, though I think this might be overselling a concussion from a month ago by a bit... but it's given a whole new spin to the Cole character, and I'm digging it. Hopefully the guy's ready in time for Shattered Dreams, cause he'd clearly be a favorite going in if he is.

- Dallas Lawson has a lottery ticket. And yet Jacob Rose is the lucky guy? Oh, but that means Mr. Black can't be far behind. I simply cannot overstate how much I loved this promo. I care about Seiger far more than I did prior to the promo. And Black is actually accomplishing the impossible... looking like even more of a bastard than he did in the SCD feud. Lawson is established well here, Rose is made more interesting, it sets up an interesting match for the next show. One of my favorite oncard promos in some time. Black is creepy, Seiger is more compelling... excellent job Katie and COB.

- Now it's time for Part 2 of the TV Title chaos... Spectre vs Uncle Frank. I wrote this, and I do agree with Cole that it came out shorter than I wanted it to be (though, in fairness, it was longer than Nevermind/Manson ;)). I made an effort to completely avoid pinfall attempts throughout the match, as I don't believe either of these guys cared one iota about winning the match... which also made it seem shorter. I apologize for that to Don and Steinar, as these two guys deserved an epic... but a horrible week medically kept me from the computer, so call it a bad week from me. I'm happy with how it turned out, but I do wish I'd had another day (or at least a laptop in my room) to enhance the "epic" quotient a bit.

- Chris Hartt is sorry he can't wrestle tonight, cause Black messed him up last show... but it appears Black isn't sorry. This was concise, which it needed to be so that's a bonus point, but it got the point across that it needed to... Hartt is pissed and wants Black, and Black is ready to make an example of Seiger next week knowing Hartt will be watching. Good stuff. God I'm loving Black right now, kudos Katie. Really looking forward to this feud, Black elevating to the upper card through PVW mainstay Hartt, while Hartt gets some emotion pulled out by the Wolf and helps reestablish him among the top faces in PVW. Really eager to see where these two go long term.

- SCD just got punked out by Spectre... but dammit, he's still gonna go face the green monster and the American Champ! And people call El Pollo Loco retarded? :)

- Main event time! Sin and SCD take on one heck of an unusual duo... and we all know where this is going. Solid match though, I liked the match itself more than others seemed to... then again, I'm a sucker for a good Ricky Morton, and SCD certainly played that role in this match. But naturally, the chaos starts when Craven lays out HvD, bringing out HOPE (who, strangely, didn't care that much about Uncle Frank in either of the two times he was in trouble)... and HOPE annihilates the big green machine. Which is what needed to happen, I agree with Picky and Cole... you can't have Craven take out all of HOPE and maintain HOPE as being the best in PVW. HvD came across REALLY well here, his heel turn is now complete and believable after this night.

OVERALL: A good, fun show. HUGE kudos to the entire roster it seems, as there was so many logical, useful multi-handler promos on the show that I couldn't imagine them being left out (and that doesn't even include the ones that WERE left out, heh). Excellent participation, but not just empty participation... there was a ton of development on this show, and a number of feuds/characters that I am more interested in now than I was beforehand. As Jer said, no matches really overwhelmed me as being out of this world... but there are a few in the future that I'm REALLY looking forward to after this show.
Working on new characters you didn't see a decade ago. Honest.

Jared - what kind of set-up, or setting would have made Williams little sit down with Dean feel more important?

I'm just curious as I come up with the concept for the second part of this thing...

btw, seeing you around again brings back some good OSW memories... :)

Jerod: You got the Frank v. Spectre match spot on in my opinion, and unless it's part of a bigger thing, I think that keeping a match between these two short is the only way to avoid a hospital stay for one or both.

OK, you people REALLY gotta stop inflating my ego about this whole OSW thing, I've been tempted enough already. Quick Picky, tell me how much OSW blew chunks. :)

I thought the history part of the Chase interview was valuable, given the number of new faces... I've only been reading diehard since I got back in May, and my history review only goes back to early 2010 at this point in time, so a big part of Chase's history is unfamiliar to me... I appreciated the history lesson there.

But some more insight into why on the return would be valuable. What I pretty much got out of it was "Hey, wouldn't a Williams/Gionet match be pretty cool?" Sure it would, but there's gotta be more reason why the man comes back after all this time. What's the inspiration, the motivation? Who among the modern era wrestlers would be a target? What are his thoughts on HOPE, aside from the one sentence? History lessons are valuable, but it's a new PVW... how is Chase going to fit into the current PVW? Those are some things I think it would be interesting to see in a Part 2... give me a reason to care about the character in the current environment other than "He was the first PVW Champ".

Just some thoughts from someone who only slightly knows the character and would like to better understand the hype. :)

I'm glad you liked it Don. As a writer, my main goal is to satisfy the people who put the work into the match... and I'm a massive, massive fan of both Spectre and Frank so I'm glad you feel I did them justice.

Yeah, what Don said, Jerod. There's no need to apologize for the Frank vs. Spectre match. You got it exactly right in my opinion. Then again, you've pretty much always nailed every Frank Knight match you've ever written. There's a reason I consider OSW to be the fed where Frank finally came into his own, and the matchwriting was a big part of that.

Oh, and you're right. I did strat for Manson to break out of the Funhouse. :) Yep, that's on me. What can I say? I like the Manson character and thought it would help to make him seem like the monster he is. He's sort of been put in a position where the limelight has been on other monsters the last couple of cycles, in my opinion, so that's just me doing my little part to help put him back in the spotlight where I feel he deserves to be.

So, speaking of OSW. When are you going to submit to the inevitable? :)

Hey,

In my defense, I'm not gushing over OSW. I just hadn't thought about the particular character I handled there. The only place I ever handled that one coincidentally...

So :P

And thanks for the insight. Part two will shed light aplenty. :)
