The long awaited (for another year) return of Alamo Championship Wrestling had San Antonio buzzing again, even if by now the return shows are sort of getting old hat. One smart thing the company did this time around was offer all tickets for free, as doing so attracted about 600 people tonight. It's down from the most attended shows ACW has put on before, but higher than the average show. One correction from the recent news updates, this show as well as all future ACW shows aren't being held in the same place as the 'old' ACW Arena, aka the San Antonio Municipal Auditorium thanks to a partial demolition and remodeling that's closed the building since the fall. Instead, ACW has moved to new digs in the form of a renovated warehouse bought by Tom Landis and Tara Marshall. Overall it's a smaller space, which makes for a more intimate setting than the Municipal Aud. The ACW Arena V.2 is an interesting redesign from the more wide open feel of V.1's ballroom-like setting. Twin catwalks run along the north and south walls to overlook the floor area, and the entrance stage sits on the east wall. The west wall features the main entrance for fans, as well as a crow's nest area up above the doors with stairs to the left side. The catwalks are about a foot higher than the top of the crow's nest, with roughly four to five feet separating the levels. The ringside area is edged with simple metal guardrails, the rails also framing the aisleway right to the back of the east wall. The entrance stage itself features an angular set of curtains to the left side, with a pair of large plasma screen televisions anchored up next to the entrance. Four steps lead down to the aisleway, and a ring with black posts and alternating silver and black ropes sat in the middle of the floor. Linkin Park's "Points Of Authority" was the first piece of music to hit the speakers at the top of the show, and the brand new General Manager Tara Marshall made her way out to a loud bevy of cheers. She took the time to shake hands with everyone along the ringside area before climbing into the ring and welcoming the fans to tonight's show. A small "Welcome back!" chant started up, and after soaking it all in a grinning Tara officially welcomed everyone back to the Alamo City. She went on to announce that because of upheaval with the roster all the existing ACW Southwest championships were vacant and would soon be filled. In particular, the Southwest Heavyweight Championship would be filled on this night with a special 8 man gauntlet style match. She wished everyone in the back good luck tonight, and then left to more cheers before the action soon got underway. The Glamour Boys (w/Robert Hofstedder Jr.) versus Mark II --------------------------------------------------------- The first match in the reborn ACW featured two familiar tag teams, having previously worked in ACW briefly. The Boys, formerly known as the West Coast Wild Boyz, have taken on a new manager since ACW saw them last in a skinny southern gentleman dressed in a cheap suit. Carney and Workman, students of the prestigious Keening School of Grappling Arts, were welcomed by the crowd as their opponents watched unimpressed from in the ring. The opening flurry of the match was won by the Marks, who drove "Nasty" Nick and "Marvelous" Michael to their freaked out manager. The Hoff yelled at them to "send 'em home to mama!", and when the match returned the doubleteaming tactics of the Glamour Boys began to take the match in a new direction. Workman was isolated for much of the match and took the brunt of damage, nearly getting pinned off a moonsault double kneedrop from Nick Hunter. But near the end he made the hot tag to Carney, momentarily giving Mark II the opening to win ala the Spellchecker. That's when Hoff jumped up onto the apron to distract the referee, allowing Hunter and Taylor to hit a double brainbuster suplex to take Carney out for the pinfall. WINNERS: The Glamour Boys Hofstedder grabbed the microphone following the match and proclaimed that he and the Glamour Boys would revolutionize tag team wrestling in 2012. That drew a loud chorus of boos, as the manager led his team back to the locker rooms. Skull N' Bones versus The New Throbbing Mattress Kittens -------------------------------------------------------- Up next, a bit of women's wrestling as the always popular Rachel "Arcee" Carlisle and Angela "Skullbuster" Harrison took on the seductive Cordova twins, in a highflying battle that left all four women battered and bruised by the end. Stereo splashes from the Cordovas off the top rope led to disaster for the TMK, as both Arcee and Harrison got their knees up in time. With the twins prone, Rachel hit her Voodoo Mama tornado DDT from the corner on Luna just as the 6'2 Angela dropped Aurora on her head with the Skullbuster piledriver. Simultaneous three counts left the crowd ecstatic, as the step-sisters celebrated with the crowd post-match. WINNERS: Skull N' Bones Following the tag matches was the introduction of a new talent to ACW, as Mickey Avalon's raunchy opus "Stroke Me" came over the PA system and a gorgeous blonde woman about 5'7 came out from the locker rooms, escorting a tall muscular man with short brown hair and wearing a long red and white robe. As the music pounded throughout the building the blonde woman grinded all over him, then together they walked towards the ring where the woman held the ropes open for the man. Once in the ring the man asked for the microphone and then proceeded to make out with his valet all as the crowd booed the pairing. He introduced himself as Stan "The Man" Fox, and declared himself the greatest male specimen professional wrestling has ever seen. He also introduced his companion, Sugar, and told the crowd she's the type of woman men leave their mistresses for as the young lady gyrated provocatively. Before the duo made out again, he demanded that ACW bring out his victim for the night and warned whoever won the upcoming gauntlet match that they were just going to keep the belt warm for "the man". Jamie Kidd versus Stan "The Man" Fox (w/Sugar) ---------------------------------------------- Stan Fox stood in the ring with his arms stretched out as Sugar disrobed him, but started to untie his trunks until Fox stopped her and told her "that's for later, honey." And from the back came one half of the now former Southwest Tag Team Champions, "The Sensation Rocking The Nation" Jamie Kidd to loud applause. Kidd, a member of the famous Kidd wrestling family, started off quickly with an aerial assault on Fox, but after an attempted cross bodyblock from the top rope Fox ducked and Kidd was tangled up in the ropes. That's when Fox exploded onto poor Jamie, hammering away on him and not ceasing fire until he managed to hook him with a front chancery and executed a vicious head-drop suplex to the mat. The beguiling Sugar had the focus of most of the males during the match, and for good measure managed to trip Jamie late in the match as Kidd gamely tried to get back in the thick of things. When he turned around to confront her, Sugar smiled sweetly at him and blew the Englishman a kiss... which distracted him long enough for Fox to kick him in the skull and then pick him up for a Death Valley Driver to win. WINNER: Stan "The Man" Fox Post-match Sugar slid into the ring and straddled the defeated Kidd for a few seconds, allowing Stan to grab a microphone and ask the unconscious Jamie how it felt to finally have a girl on top of him. Fox and Sugar then made out a bit more, before leaving the ring while a disgusted crowd showered them with boos. The main event came up next, as Keith Marshall and Rhett Connors made their way out to the ring. Connors carried the Southwest Championship belt in a red velvet bag and sat down at ringside while Marshall took the microphone and acted as the special guest ring announcer for the match, explaining the rules of the match. Gauntlet Match For The Southwest Heavyweight Championship --------------------------------------------------------- So the first man to come out for the match, former Southwest Heayweight Champion "Hollywood" Cody Jones. Jones showed his displeasure, arguing that he should have been given a higher seeding because "he runs this place". He didn't have too long to gripe though, because the second man out was the barefoot madman Cornelius Gore! Gore and Jones slugged it out, with Gore winning the war and repeatedly driving Jones into the corner spine-first. Cody ducked an apron running clothesline and came back with a neck snap as he jumped to the arena floor, stunning Gore and leaving him vulnerable to the Pledge, Cody's roaring elbow. A package piledriver later and Gore was out of the match, but Jones was immediately beseiged by entrant #3... "Everyone's Idol" Quinn Murray. Murray unleashed a flurry of shots to prevent Jones from getting back up, immediately delivering the Fatal Frame to lay the former champion out. But not satisfied with simply defeating Jones, Murray started to scream out that he wanted to "end" his former tag team partner once and for all. A second Fatal Frame was enough to knock Jones unconscious, but Quinn grabbed a steel chair from the outside and laid it down in the ring as his ally Gore stumbled back to his feet. With a sneer Murray delivered a package piledriver of his own and finally covered Jones for the three count, and then really went to work. As the #4 entry, Danny Holden came down to the ringside area, he stopped and watched as Gore and Murray lifted the dead weight of Jones up and Gore delivered a Rusty Knife Kick to once again lay Jones out. Murray then grabbed the steel chair lying in the ring and threatened Holden, who raised his hands and shrugged as if to say "Hey, go ahead and finish your business man". Then to the horror of the crowd and despite a stream of security guards surrounding the ring Murray wrapped the chair around the arm of Cody Jones and stomped down repeatedly on it, causing him to come to life screaming in pain. One definitive and audible *SNAP* later and the damage was unquestionably done as Jones convulsed in shock as security and EMTs helped get him back to the locker rooms, his obviously broken arm cradled into his body. Murray and Gore celebrated their actions, when the until-now passive Holden slid into the ring and caught Gore with a double running kneestrike to send him out to the floor. As Murray tried to grab Holden he quickly found himself trapped in Holden's cross armbreaker! With the remaining security dragging Gore out and unable to reach the ropes Murray was forced to tap out or face a similar fate as Jones, drawing a loud pop from the crowd! Clutching his own arm as he rolled to the outside Murray shot Danny Holden a dirty look, walking away as he passed entrant #5... As the crowd exploded when original ACW member Stephen Edge entered the building! Edge, a charismatic young local wrestler who lost a loser leaves town match in 2008, hi-fived the crowd happily as Holden stared at him from inside the ring. When Edge stepped through the ropes Holden offered him a handshake, but sadly as Stephen accepted it he was whipped into the far ropes and met with a knee strike followed by an attempted armbreaker. Edge, who proved he was watching the match earlier, countered free of it and came at Holden with a series of flying forearms of his own. As Edge went to the top rope for a high altitude elbowdrop Holden rolled clear and pounced immediately on the returning star, ratcheting on the cross armbreaker for another tapout victory. Entrant #6 was announced as "Jammin" Jesse Roucka, an athletic young man who bounced down to the ring and went right to the top rope to catch Holden with a flying leg lariat and nearly scored a pinfall win. Holden was forced to wrestle defensively for a few minutes as Roucka took it to him, unleashing a high risk offense including an Asai moonsault tornado DDT that left the uber-technician flat on his back and again nearly pinned. But one mistaken was all it took as Roucka attempted a dragonrana and instead Holden countered with a swift and sudden powerbomb into the canvas. A switch to the cross armbreaker and Roucka too was forced to tap out. A battle weary Holden held up two fingers, signifying the number of opponents he had left to get through. As a disappointed Roucka returned to the back he was passed by entrant #7, a near seven foot tall man announced as "Big Time" Bradley Rose. Rose lumbered down to the ring, having a clear size advantage over Holden who's eyes grew wide as his newer, fresher opponent stalked him. Danny rolled to the outside for a quick breather which led to Rose giving chase, and as he tried re-entering the ring Holden caught him flush in the side of the head with a shin kick. He tried to soften Rose up for the armbreaker, but the big man was waiting for it and lifted Holden high into the air for a gorila press. Rose began to abuse Holden with tremendous power moves, a lariat flipping him inside out at one point. Smelling blood in the water, Rose grabbed Holden and lifted him up for a powerbomb... and Holden promptly caught Rose nappy with a small package and scored a three count! The crowd began to boo heavily as Holden celebrated by raising one last finger into the air, this one a middle finger to the audience. Rose stormed out, frustrated at falling for such a tactic... When the sounds of Motorhead blasted over the PA system and the crowd greeted "Overkill" Joey Malone as the #8 and final entrant! Malone raced to the ring and dove off the top rope onto an exhausted Holden with a top rope legdrop. The energetic Malone ran circles around Holden, peppering him with whatever he could and surprising him with rollups. Only after Holden caught the former Southwest Tag Champion with a running leap over the ropes to guillotine Malone's arm did the technician get back in control, working the arm just as he'd done to each of his previous opponents in the gauntlet. A curb-stomp to the elbowjoint was particularly painful to Joey, but Holden over-played his hand once more and had the armbreaker countered with a toss right over the top rope. Malone followed it with a suicide dive to the outside of the ring that brought the house down. When the match returned to the ring it was the fan favorite in firm control and soon Joey heard the chants of the crowd and so leapt to the top rope to deliver the Stone Dead Forever, his version of a 450 splash, landing on top of Holden perfectly and hooking a leg. But just prior to the referee counting to three Holden got his free leg across the bottom rope to thwart Malone's pin attempt. A distraught crowd chanted "Do it again! Do it again!", and ever-agreeable Joey did just that, climbing to the top rope again. But his second 450 splash went horribly awry, as Holden kicked the ropes and caused Joey to crotch himself, then snagged Joey by the arm and pulled him to the canvas in the now-all-too-familiar cross armbreaker. Despite Joey's brave attempts to fight it off, he was eventually forced to succumb, tapping out. WINNER: And new Southwest Heavyweight Champion, Danny Holden Holden picked himself up off the mat and exited the ring, grabbed the bag from Rhett Connors and was about to pull the championship belt out when "Points Of Authority" hit the PA system and GM Tara Marshall appeared high above the crowd on the left side catwalk near the ACW logo banner. Said Marshall: "Congratulations to you Danny Holden, on winning tonight's main event and becoming the brand new Southwest Heavyweight Champion. But while you congratulate yourself for going through that locker room and coming away with the victory, I have that major announcement to make. Ladies and gentlemen... you are NOT at the rebirth of Alamo Championship Wrestling tonight. Tonight marks a new era for this promotion, and a new era in wrestling overall. I know there have been rumblings about the return of a certain company that's well known in this area and this state... [Chants of "MBC! MBC!" intermingle with a few "AWA! AWA!" and even one or two chants of "PCW! PCW!", and Tara smiles down at the crowd from her perch high above.] "Ladies and gentlemen... welcome to MBC Alamo City!" [A small bit of pyro explodes up at the ceiling near where Marshall stands, as the banner featuring the ACW logo is dropped to reveal a brand new logo, one that bears the initials MBC:AC. The crowd roars with delight as down at ringside an unimpressed Danny Holden finally removes the title belt from the velvet bag, producing an entirely new looking title belt that features the same MBC:AC logo on it. Nonetheless he raises the belt over his head and walks out.] |
