Well, after all the excitement and surprises of last week tonight's show was a little more low key. As soon as it began, loud MBC chants broke out for a good three minutes. Noticeably different were a lot of MBC: Alamo City banners hung up from the rafters, where last week there were only a couple of ACW signs. In retrospect, maybe we should have suspected something. Second City Roughnecks versus Air Express ----------------------------------------- The opening match featured a pair of brand new teams, and real clash in styles. The Roughnecks were a couple of greasy looking thugs dressed in jeans and combat boots; Air Express were your typical cleancut young wrestlers in matching blue and white long tights. Bode Connors of the SCR started off with Johnny Lohan of Air Express, and hammered him right out of the gate with some big fists and knees. He pummelled the poor kid and then tagged out to his partner, Shani Fairborne, who did the same and threw Lohan a good eight feet up into the air with a huge flapjack. A desperation lunge finally brought in the other AE member, Kenny Packard, but the Roughnecks continued to have their way with them and finished Packard and Lohan off with an electric chair drop and a spear tackle. WINNERS: The Second City Roughnecks Post-match the Roughnecks dedicated their win to the "great state of Illinois", which got them soundly booed even more than they were for messing up the pretty boys. Stan "The Man" Fox versus "Jammin" Jesse Roucka ----------------------------------------------- A couple of the newer guys introduced last week matched up next. Fox brought out his smoking hot valet Sugar, and already after a couple of weeks she's been the talk of the men in the crowd. And for reasons that are abundantly clear, as Sugar did a sexy little striptease before pulling off Fox's robe and taking her place at ringside. Roucka controlled the early part of the match and outwrestled Stan, but a shot to the groin solved that problem pretty fast. A head-focused attack by Fox softened Roucka up, and when it looked like he might be on the verge of rallying back Sugar tripped him up and blew him a kiss. Fox capitalized just like the week before with a kick to the skull, and a Death Valley Driver helped him pick up the win. WINNER: Stan "The Man" Fox Also like last week, Sugar slid into the ring and straddled Roucka for a few seconds to add insult to injury. I'm pretty sure even though he just got his clock cleaned, every man in the building would have traded places with Roucka at that moment. Some flexing by Fox, then he grabbed Sugar by the waist and led her backstage. Hayden Childes versus "Black" Jayde Griffen -------------------------------------------- A women's singles match came next, with the well known Jayde Griffen taking on a new girl by the name of Hayden Childes. Griffen abused Childes with her usual technical array, but when the newbie started to fight back after ducking a uraken and sweeping the legs, the other half of Estrogen came out for a closer look, Kyra Braddock. Childes worked over Jayde's leg and went for a cloverleaf several times, but Kyra distracted the ref and allowed Jayde to capitalize with the Black Spiral. Childes kept kicking out though, despite all the punishment she took and eventually the match ended in a time limit draw. Infuriated, Griffen took her anger out on Childes after the match was over and left her laying in a leap after a KOKORO Cutter. WINNER: Time Limit Draw Childes eventually made it back to her feet and returned to the locker room, getting a standing ovation for taking the hated Jayde Griffen to the limit. Cornelius Gore versus Jamie Kidd -------------------------------- Another show, another rough outing for Jamie Kidd as Cornelius Gore beat on him from the time the bell sounded. Only a couple of minutes into the match he hit the Rusty Knife Kick and pinned Kidd. WINNER: Cornelius Gore Quinn Murray versus "Big Time" Bradley Rose ------------------------------------------- Gore's match segued right into this one, as his longtime ally Murray came sauntering out to a loud heel pop. Murray got on the microphone and took credit for ridding this town of Cody Jones once and for all, stating that he would never ever show his face in wrestling again. Murray's opponent was another of the new faces that debuted last week, Bradley Rose. Rose took a bit of a beating early in the match, but his size kept him in it and eventually Murray got caught trying to hit the Hollywood Side Kick, only to be met with a short-arm clothesline. Rose grabbed his opponent and set up for a powerbomb, and Quinn tried to pull the same trick Danny Holden did to beat Rose last week with a small package. Only Rose was smart to counter that by grabbing the ropes, and chokeslammed Murray into the mat for a stunning three count! WINNER: Bradley Rose Rose celebrated hastily before leaving the ring just as Gore tried to rush back out, and the ex-insurgents were left to seethe as they'd been shown up. Skull N' Bones versus The New TMK - Psycho Drivers Tag Title Match ------------------------------------------------------------------ This was a little bit of a surprise, not so much the match itself since it was a rematch from last week. But this time it was announced as a Psycho Drivers Title match! I guess this new beginning for MBC really is official, since those are MBC championships. And a lot like last week it was a symphony of aerial maneuvers, especially when Arcee walked the top rope and hit a deadly huracanrana on Luna while she was ON HER OWN SISTER'S SHOULDERS AS AURORA SAT ON THE TOP ROPE! Amazingly that didn't end the match then and there; she went for the Voodoo Mama tornado DDT that won the match last time out but Aurora was ready for it this time. She chucked Arcee over her head with a wicked suplex and dumped her upside down in the corner to take her out of the match completely. The twins doubleteamed Skullbuster after that, and eventually put her away with a top rope splash by Luna. WINNERS: And still Psycho Driver Tag Team Champions, The New TMK As the Cordovas held the title belts triumphantly, Tara Marshall appeared up on one of the catwalks and congratulated them on their successful defense. She went on to announce that next week a new Women's Southwest Champion would be crowned, in a special open invitation ladder match. For the MBC:AC Southwest Heavyweight Championship: Danny Holden[c] versus "Overkill" Joey Malone --------------------------------------------- Which brought us to the main event. A rematch of the final two men in the gauntlet a week ago, the wildly popular Joey Malone against the ruthlessly efficient and undefeated champion Danny Holden. As always Holden entered to no music or fanfare, and tried to start the match with a wrestling demonstration. Malone wasn't about to let him get into his comfort zone though and fought out of every lockup he could to fling Danny across the ring with a hiptoss, or catch him with a standing dropkick. This made Holden angrier and angrier, to the point that the champion began to chase Malone when he'd duck out of the ring. Pretty soon Joey levelled him with a high cross bodyblock out to the arena floor, and drilled Holden with a backflip exploder suplex for a near count. Realizing how close he'd come to losing his first match Holden slowed things right down, pouncing on Malone and trying to rip the arm out of its socket when he countered a flying forearm in midair. A double armbar submission into a dragon suplex knocked Malone senseless, but Joey still had a few tricks up his sleeve as Holden attempted his feared armbreaker and nearly got rolled up again for his troubles. In the end Malone was once again betrayed by his penchant for high risk though, setting up for the 450 splash but crashing and burning. And again Holden pounced, delivering a skull-crushing kick to the side of the head that practically knocked Joey unconscious for the three count. WINNER: And still MBC:AC Southwest Heavyweight Champion, Danny Holden Holden took his title belt and walked to the back, while a battle weary Joey Malone eventually got up and thanked the fans for coming. |
