It should be Tradition VII - I like the Roman Numerals. I also want to know what matches are set up for TVII! |

That could spoil things for Heatwave, but I have a pretty packed special night planned for the league. |

Decided to segment these away from the overall Heatwave review, cause Rob deserves his own kudos. So, better late than never... The Moo Review - Sons of Anarchy are here, and they're gonna beat some ass. I seriously think this team has a lot of potential once they really get going, as they could fill the currently vacant "heel bruisers" team role in the PVW tag division. For such a strongly rebuilt division, there really isn't a team that just goes in to throw people around the ring... this team could certainly be that team. - We open the show with President Danny Daniels introducing Referee Danny Daniels. Heh, OK... haven't totally "gotten" a lot of what Daniels has done with the presidency, but this is creative. I like this idea. - Next, we meet Omar Oscabedo Martinez. And he thinks Whisper has a sissy name. Which he's probably right about. This was a fun, cheesy lucha-style promo... it did a good enough job of introducing the character... - ... shortly before the character is pounded into submission by Whisper. Big squash for Whisper, no real challenge beyond the opening... but I like the idea of getting the occasional squash using ASLL talent on Shockwave. And kudos to Rob for handling Referee Daniels well in the match, it made the squash a fun read. - Max & Sal are in the house. And unlike those HOPE bastards, they're gonna defend their titles! This was a great point for the champs to make, and gives them a good face rub. A good departure from the usual silliness, which I wanted to see just one time from the champs before they go back to entertaining me. - Speaking of the tag division... Sons of Anarchy make their two-on-two debut against a Legacy team facing their first real non-squash. And the rookie Legacy team struggles, as their mentor Alex Wallace is clearly spooked by something. This was a good match, put over the SoA well while getting over Legacy's youth and the mistakes that come with it. My gut says Legacy has something bigger than expected going on with them, and I'm intrigued to see what that could be. - We go backstage, where "Da Cow God" Moo hunts for his partner and runs across Jonathan Regnigh. A lot of this was me wanting Moo to show some respect for the other new face team in the division, which led to the photo exchange which I set up on Showcase and John liked. Just a short little face plug for both teams. - We cut to Kevin Quartermann, who should have ignored that last sentence as he would have been well within his right to hurl heavy objects at the squatters who stole his room. Could this be a kinder, gentler Kevin Quartermann? I think Quartermann as a loose cannon would actually work really well as a face in PVW, so if that's the direction he ends up going I think it's a great idea. - Match time again, as Cow and Chicken take on Gold Rush in the previously setup match. I thought the match came out well, more fun from Danny Daniels shows that decision was a good one. I'm thrilled with the result, as Gold Rush deserved a victory after having Lineage ruin the result of their first couple matches as they have put in great work, yet the near broken-up pinfall kept C&C with some strength. I felt this did a good job for both teams, so thanks Rob! - After distracting his team all match long, Alex Wallace is pissed that his team didn't pay attention? Sterling von Braun is none to pleased with this reaction, and it appears he's searching for another manager. Big manager tension, potential partner tension... again, very interested to see what Legacy has up their sleeve in the long run. Good angle selling here for Legacy. - And we're back to the ring, as Chance Holiday takes on Talion... and the question here is, does Referee Daniels still forget who Holiday is? Talion opens the match by dropping to his knees and letting Holiday kick the crap out of him, which is an unusual strategy I can't recommend to most young wrestlers getting into the business. I get what he was going for here though, and it came across well. We do end up with some good back-and-forth action, until Holiday holds a choke too long and gets slapped by Daniels, who proceeds to throw himself out of the building for interfering in a match, which I'm still chuckling about. Solid match, told a good story, built Holiday a bit while keeping Talion strong, everything it needed to do. And without question, best use of his "President" role yet by Daniels. - Chase Williams sits down to Part Two of his return interview with Dean Hayes. In retrospect, I think I was a little harsh on Part One though... it came off better on the second reading, though it was right in the middle of a stacked Heatwave so it really slowed down things a bit. But I still think Part Two came off better, it showed some humility from the character and better gave me an idea of who he is. Williams could rise back in the structure quickly given the character's PVW history, and having another top-level face is clearly something everyone agrees PVW needs. - Match #4 pits Adrian Freeman against Kevin Quartermann. And I enjoyed this match, as the writer clearly knows how to write fluid technical exchanges... an underrated attribute in a writer. And it ended as it probably should have, with Freeman cheating his way to a cheap victory. It was shorter than I would have wanted it to be though, I got in to the technical struggle and wasn't ready for it to end yet dammit. Hopefully we get to see this one again eventually.- Gold Rush is back after their victory earlier this evening... and they get the pleasure of running into Uncle Frank. This was an excellent idea by John and Steinar, given Regnigh's history with Marcus Manson. With Gibson Hayes convincing Uncle Frank that Manson is the "leader" of the anti-HOPE movement, surely his old partner would be involved right? This leads to a brawl between Beau Wilson and Uncle Frank, and before Regnigh can get involved Lineage throws themselves into it. Really, really good exchange that pushes two feuds at once and blends the tag and singles perfectly... loved this idea completely. - Main event time, as Chris Hartt attempts to take Herscher von Donkerhardt's American Title. It came across on the first read as a bit of a beatdown, as HvD really controls the match especially at the end... I'm gonna read it again tonight to see if that was just a first impression though. Hartt came off good, but he didn't come off as a legit contender which would have been valuable for him. But technically the match was solidly written and did everything else right. The match ends with assumedly a DQ as HvD is prevented from annihilating Hartt with the ringsteps by an interruption from a mysterious message. Does an OK job of continuing things without going too crazy. - Kevin Quartermann's new locker room is taken over by more squatters, and at this point I think he would be a stronger face for beating the living hell out of all of them then he is for showing restraint. Both Quartermann segments were great at getting across the concept of the character while leaning him away from the bulk of the new heels on the roster. The character is starting to really stand out. - We wrap things up with a promo, which I usually hate. But in retrospect, I can't argue that it is an appropriate place for this. I didn't totally buy the drugging element as a reason for what was going on, but it was a logical way to accomplish getting Brian Young inside the ring for the "unveiling". It was a believable turn, even to someone who doesn't know all the history between the duo, and a well written segment. Plus it provided the always-reliable shocker to end the show. OVERALL THOUGHTS: Glad to see an American Title match on the show, though I admit I wanted to see Hartt stronger it was still a solid match. The Danny Daniels angle was his best since taking over the presidency, the Quartermann occupiers segments were fun yet insightful, the Gold Rush/Uncle Frank/Lineage promo was simply superb, and the Rob Cole mystery man angle was culminated well leaving what was a believable and well-sold angle. Couple that with some solid matches early in the show, and this was a very good Shockwave that I admit I enjoyed reading. |
| Working on new characters you didn't see a decade ago. Honest. | |

So seven Shockwaves in the books and I think I am slowly getting better with the show. There will be a new theme song post Tradition VII I was still looking and wanted to get the card out so I just said screw it and used the opening from Episode 6. Thanks for the input everyone I'll keep it in mind to try to improve the show. |

Uncle Frank feels the following song would be perfect for Shockwave's intro. He feels it embodies what PVW is all about. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGbnua2kSa8 I didn't have the heart to tell him the rest of the roster might not agree with him. ![]() |

by the way, Regnigh is a veteran, but he isn't an "old man" - I estimate he and Manson were in their early to mid 20s when they debuted in UEW in 98, and therefore would now be in the 32-35 range if you truly count the 14 years between then and now, but I look at age in e-wrestling as a much more nebulous thing. |

Don't be so upset about being called an old man. Cub Swanson was called an old man in fighting terms... then this happened.
