seriously. Along those lines: I wouldn't mind finding a long weekend where maybe a few of us could meet up and whip out a slew of rpgs. Gen Con or Origins come to mind as there are a ton of games but I know that's far for people. Just in case people aren't aware. Gen Con is the game fair TSR created back in the 70s. It used to be in Milwaukee, WI and no resides in Indianapolis. They get 30,000 a day to play board games, LARPs, rpgs, card games, and even now electronic/computer games. It takes over the whole city and is usually it's #2 convention in dollars spent. They have a HUGE dealers room with games, costumes, all things geek including kick ass swords and daggers you can buy. Area is so huge it could take 1-3 days just inside it. There are games you can register for or you can find people for pick up games. Btw Alan side note--JW Marriott @ Indy--AWESOME. Yes pricey but they upgraded me to the hospitality suite AT NO EXTRA CHARGE! Damn thing had a full length conference table, walk in shower, fridge, and 2 lcd tvs puls additional nice comfy chairs too. Did room service and the item I wanted wasn't on the menu as it was an old menu--THEY COMP'ED THE WHOLE MEAL. I had like 6-8 guest and it easily ran 150-200. So for those who head to Gen Con in Indy if you got the extra $$$ the JW Marriott is truly awesome. For those watching the super bowl that was the building with the lombardi trophy the on it they flash to during the game. |

Origins would be cool. Columbus is a great area! Barley's, right across the street from the convention center, has awesome burgers. I would go for the art show and the chance to game with anyone here, but I don't think I'd game in general with just anyone else. I tend to be a bit picky (No, not Picky, he's his own man) and like gaming with people I know (or at least have interacted with first). |

And to complete the trifecta: Dragon*Con. I met Alan there this year as we had the grand finale of my Marvel campaign that I ran different groups in since 1989. I sadly didn't manage to get my own rooms this year, but D*C is awesome and I could commute there if I had to. And if we did something like that, this is the year for it because I have not finalized vacation plans. I have friends in Columbus who want me to stay there and go to Origins. I'd be willing to do gen Con if we decided on that. Let's arrange something. |

If anyone is ever in the Allentown PA area and wants to drink a few beers and watch baseball, let me know. I'll be glad to swill. That's all I got on the meetup end. Stopped dungeons and dragons in 4th grade. Beer and sports is all I have to offer. |

I actually already have a room reserved for Origins this year. I prefer Origins to Gen Con for numerous reasons I won't go into right now. I too would've liked to do Dragon Con this year, but I couldn't get a room either. I didn't really do any gaming at Dragon Con, other than with Jer. Con gaming is a mixed bag. I find that the groups I'm in are about 50/50. I've been in some pretty miserable ones, but I've also had some great experiences and formed long-term friendships with people. But I would be totally down for meeting up with a bunch of guys at a con or even some other occasion we arrange. I wouldn't mind Gen Con, but I never can get my events. But, I'm sure I can manage the hour drive to Indy if a bunch of guys were going to be there. |

I normally attend KublaCon in Burlingame, California. I don't have the money for travel or lodging expenses anywhere else, but I do want to attend Origins or GenCon some year. I may not get to go this year, though I'm thinking of just attending one day for the Warlord CCG event. It's one of the few CCG's I still play. |

I've always talked about a trip to DragonCon just because it's been forever since I've been to Atlanta. Given I'm just about to end a 3 month stay in North Carolina, I'm thinking the boss is only giving me one shot at a vacation so its either GenCon (most of my friends are going) or Vegas (it's been too long). So swinging Origins would be rough this year. IMHO, Origins is more board games and I prefer more RPGs. Last time I was at Origins, Fairfield had just openned and no one realized it was the closest hotel to the con. There were major bigwigs and sponsors I was working with/talking to at the time who were pissed I was closer to the con. Worse, Origins was paying for it to boot and thought they'd given me something crappy. Now everyone knows and it's totally booked up. But if we're talking *live* play of Chaos Theory...well that changes things. ![]() Alan is correct: sometimes at cons you're at the mercy of the GMs or players at your table. If it doesn't work, you can be stuck for 4 hours. For me, I know about a ton of people and been with my D6 Star Wars for like a decade so it's always something to do and fall back on. I'd been a while since I've been in Allentown. Beer is good and as long as the topic of steriods in baseball or the Chicago Cubs don't come up were all good. Only bummer part of being in N.Carolina right now: no Durham Bulls baseball.
