![]() The following is credited to NBC news. Police and The Riot Squad were called tonight to an Internet Wrestling Federation event in New York City after wrestler and fan favourite Jimmy Sartyr was horrifically ran down and the scheduled Main Event didn’t take place. In a frenzy of emotion and rage, the fans struck out and rioted until Police and Riot Squad teams arrived to calm them down and escort them from the arena. The riot itself was a mild one but was fueled by the horrific running down of then World Champion Jimmy Sartyr. No word has yet been released as to the condition of Mr. Sartyr but fans we spoke to after the event claimed that the prognosis didn’t look good. We successfully attempted to reach the Internet Wrestling Federation for comment and they provided us with the following statement. “We are horrified by the events that unfolded at Driven tonight in New York City and wish to apologize to anyone traumatized by the event. The Internet Wrestling Federation provides an reality based entertainment product and sometimes things happen that are beyond the control of those in charge. The upsetting and tragic accident in which Jimmy Sartyr was ran down at Driven is a prime example of how things do go wrong. The police have promised us an investigation into the incident and we have provided all footage and information possible in hopes of achieving some clarification as to what occurred. As for the riot, we do not condone the actions of our fans under these circumstances but we’d like to assure the media that most fans co-operated with the police and left the building safety and calmly. We believe their expression of anger and frustration was born mostly out of shock and emotional sadness at the events in which unfolded before their eyes only moments earlier. We have offered a refund to everyone who purchased the event and the police have only arrested 12 individuals who refused to come quietly, those of which have received bans from all live IWF events in future. The Internet Wrestling Federation would also like to assure all fans and the media that we are doing our utmost to co-ordinate with officials from the Police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration – both of which are investigating the IWF and the incidents in which occurred. During the investigation, the Internet Wrestling Federation will continue to produce shows under the watchful eye of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and therefore will not be postponing or suspending events. We’d also like to take this opportunity to send our best wishes to Jimmy Sartyr and his family, we hope that he is okay and that no long term damage has been done.” After some investigation we can confirm that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has stepped in to investigate the Internet Wrestling Federation. If they are found to be negligent and to blame for the Riot at their Driven event tonight then the resulting outcome could see the end of the entertainment promotion based out of New York City. There is a long road ahead for the Internet Wrestling Federation. |
