Lou Whitaker is a bubble candidate at best. And on second thought, perhaps Target would have been a better store to put Merc in. They have more scanners and stuff. And I've seen more kids do the scanner gun thing than mentally challenged adults, but y'know, gotta pick your battles. |

Underground Kingpin from 1998 ________ :::: Camera fades to a cemetery at night. The landscape is full of tombstones and trees; the cemetery's silence is complete and morbid as Jacob Jamieson's mind and actions. The scenery is faint and foggy, but the more we approach the spot in question, the more we perceive what we're supposed to see: Jacob Jamieson's silhouette in the night, seated in his wheel chair. We don't really see what he's wearing (since the camera is behind him and remains so during the whole scene) but we can see his "hoop" ear ring in each of his ear and off course the back of his bald headed cranium. :::: UK: *speaks at a normal pace with his deep but low voice which makes it sound as if groaning while speaking; he hints supplication.* ---- I don't have any much more of a choice Momma, I gotta do this... The doctors said I've got six months to wrestle, top! But you know me Momma: I won't quit even if they'd told me I had 6 seconds. They'll never take that belt from me unless they burn me in a crematory with it! They'll never take it away from me Momma, I swear. That dirty Ultimate Piece of Heavy Metal Crapified ThRASH's running his mouth everywhere in front of the cameras and overseas because he thinks he's got an edge on me for what he did a year ago when he pinned me. (as he shouts the following, a thunder strikes sharply, without any rain.) UK: Please pardon me for what I'm about to do Momma... (resumes in previous tone.) UK: He tries to act witty in his spots because he wants to stir some impact on the bosses and the people who rate the shows... like he had anything interesting to listen to in the first place!? He says that I was at my best one year ago but that it all went downhill for me starting from then... Momma, since we last met, I beat almost all the former Heavyweight Champion Of The World who're still wrestling in the company, one who was actually the franchise player of the company 'til not long ago; then I went on to win the United States belt twice in under 12 months... not only am I gonna make him pay to avenge my honor Momma, I'mma make him pay for not having gone to school and educate himself long enough in order to grasp the concept that he has to think BEFORE uttering words and putting my name in his mouth, not after... (The thunder strikes again and thin rain starts falling, making a rustling sound over his muttering, now gradually angered voice.) UK: *not shouting and in the same original tone.* ---- Momma, please find it in your heart to forgive me for what I'm about to do, but he's gotta pay Momma, that's just how the game goes Momma... Yeah, I know, I'm still in the chair but I wasn't lying when I said that I was gonna get out of it by the end of this week Momma... I can't, I won't and I never will let ANYONE disrespect the Jamieson name Momma: Never!!! People think that The HardWay is just a marketing's pitch to increase merchandise sales and get myself to be remembered by a catch phrase... no one seems to understand that The HardWay started the night I was born and you died while I was in your arms Momma!!! They got me beaten and vanquished just because they see me rollin' around in this wheel chair, but what they don't understand is that I'm not "finished"... I'm only beginning to start!!! Rest In Peace Momma... (Another thunder crashes even louder then the previous ones and the rain starts falling more heavily.) UK: *hinting his usual rage by stating the following in a more aggravated tone.* ---- ... cause I'll be doing anything BUT that!!! :::: As he leaves, to the right part of the screen, about 2 or 3 thunder noises erupt again and camera zooms in on the lonesome grave which is enlightened by the lightenings of the respective thunders. Camera fades out as we read the engraved following, "A Fighter At Heart Who Never Surrendered 'Til The End" Juanita Jamieson 1931-1966 and as the screen blacks out to the next footage, we can only speculate and wonder what sort of deed Jacob Jamieson wants to be forgiven for. :::: |

Whitaker's career statistics rank him in the top 2B to ever play the game; the only reason he's a bubble candidate to the voters is because he played in Detroit. |

If Joe Gordon and Bill Mazeroski can get in the HoF, then Whitaker certainly deserves to be there. He has a better lifetime BA and OBP then Gordon or Maz. His fielding percentage was also better than those two. |

Top? Sounds strong. I'd definitely put Eddie Collings and Joe Morgan as 1-2 among 2B. Jackie Robinson split time between three positions, but I'd put him third. Rogers Hornsby, Charlie Gehringer, Ryne Sandberg, Rod Carew (spent most of his career at 2B)- I'd argue all of them were better than Whitaker. And I know a lot of statheads who vouch for how great Bobby Grich is, as well. One problem with Whitaker is that he had two other contemporaries- Willie Randolph and Frank White- who were also incredible players. I'd easily put Whitaker in the 8-12 range among second basemen. I'm not sure he ranks any higher, though. |

Really? White and Randolph were good but Whitaker is considered a top 10 2B by many analysis. Randolph was close but White isn't in the conversation. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writ...base/index.html Not great, but good enough to show you where Whitaker ranks, numbers wise. One strike against Lou, besides being in Detroit, is that he was often platooned against lefties because that's how Sparky rolled. |

And 10 ten at any position in MLB history is nothing to sneeze at. |
