Back to the Skull for another night of hot wrestling action, and while I'm not totally certain I think this is now officially a record for most consecutive weeks of shows for the former ACW. Guess the problem was the UWF connection all along, amazing how stable MBC: Alamo City has been since it started. Then again, it's not even two months in. At any rate, the tag title tournament continues on tonight with the semi- finals. The appearance of the Sons of Skullhead was a big shock to a lot of fans, many of whom are familiar with them from Bastard Stampede. The night started with an appearance by the General Manager, Tara "Sunburst" Marshall, who came out to the ring and announced that tonight's main event would see Southwest Heavyweight Champion Danny Holden taking on Quinn Murray in a title match. The crowd booed both men, which drew a bit of a smirk from Tara. Stephen Edge vs. Ellis Russo ---------------------------- Up first on tonight's slate was a singles match between one half of the Russo Brothers and longtime local star Stephen Edge. Ellis was seconded by his brother and partner Tony, who was still smarting after a loss to Danny Holden in 30 seconds last week. A fairly basic match between these two, with Edge getting the upper hand in a brawl in the early going. A few looks of jealousy between the brothers as Ellis gained control after sending Edge to the corner post, and on the outside Tony rolled his eyes after being told "this is how you do it, little brother". When he tried to hit a delayed suplex Stephen escaped and with a boot to the stomach hit a DDT for the victory. WINNER: Stephen Edge After the match, Ellis was pulled to the outside by Tony and the brothers argued as they headed to the back. Before the next match started, Rachel Carlisle came out and took a seat at ringside. #1 Contenders Match Twilight vs. Angela "Skullbuster" Harrison vs. Babe McKidd ---------------------------------------------------------- Announced as a match where the winner would receive a shot at Arcee's Southwest Women's Title next week, her step-sister the Skullbuster came down to the ring next and embraced her. Babe McKidd came out second, with the masked unknown quantity Twilight the third to enter. A feeling out period started the match, as none of the competitors took a direct advantage and in the confusion McKidd scored the first pin attempt off a sunset flip, only to be dropped with a facebuster by Twilight. From there the match heated up, as Twilight and Harrison traded shots and power attacks. As they got into a battle of knife-edge chops they fell prey to a slingshot double dropkick from Babe, and a pair of standing moonsaults gave her control of the match. Her aerial risks looked like they would pay off as she hit a top rope legdrop onto Twilight later on, and only a diving elbow by Skullbuster broke the count. With her step- sister cheering her on from ringside, Angela set Babe up for her jumping piledriver and looked to drive her into the mat... when Twilight managed to get up and kick Harrison square in the face with a Yakuza kick. Her eyes rolled back in her head as Twilight grabbed the dazed McKidd and executed an inverted powerslam on top of Skullbuster. Her two opponents piled on top of one another, Twilight jumped up and delivered a double foot stomp square between Babe's shoulderblades. Peeling her off of Harrison, Twilight threw her to the outside and covered the semi- conscious Skullbuster for the victory. WINNER: Twilight Not satisfied with just winning, the masked wrestler grabbed Harrison and started to set her up for a piledriver of her own, but Arcee jumped into the ring and forced Twilight to leave. Making the "I want a belt" motion by her waist, Twilight exited to a chorus of boos. A look of concern on the face of the champion as she helped her sister up as well as the still unmoving McKidd on the outside. The three fan favorites all left ringside together, to the cheers of the audience. "Big Time" Bradley Rose vs. "Overkill" Joey Malone -------------------------------------------------- A battle of two men the crowd liked came up next, as Malone came out to the ring wearing the white hoodie he managed to pull off of Sugar last week and the crowd exploded with laughter. He threw it into the audience as the massive Brad Rose entered, and before the match started the two wrestlers shook hands. The story came down to a classic David versus Goliath situation, with the larger Rose pounding Malone down much of the way and the agility of the native Texan keeping him competitive. Twice off of powerbomb attempts Joey escaped with huracanranas, the second one sending Rose all the way over the top rope to the outside. It was at this point that Stan "The Man" Fox showed up, eager to gain revenge over Malone humiliating his valet. He stayed in the aisleway, waiting until Joey hurled himself over the top rope with a twisting plancha that knocked into Rose and put both of them on the floor. At this point Stan sprang into action, pummeling Joey and scooping him up for a bodyslam onto the cement floor. The referee immediately disqualified Rose, who took offense to Fox's methods. As Stan set up for a DVD on the floor Rose belted him in the stomach and saved Malone, hurled Fox into the ringpost and split his forehead open. Fox limped off, not before pointing at Rose menacingly. The match result was announced to the crowd, and the two combatants left separately. WINNER: By disqualification, "Overkill" Joey Malone Out came the Hoff next, who did introductions for his team the Glamour Boys. He again called them the uncrowned Southwest Tag Team Champions, but "soon enough that problem will be rectified." Southwest Tag Title Tournament - Semi-Finals Glamour Boys vs Jamie Kidd/Jesse Roucka --------------------------------------- The team of Roucka and Kidd ran out to the ring and beseiged the Glamour Boys right away, not even letting them take off their matching robes before tossing Taylor over the ropes to the outside. Hunter was caught with a double superkick, but scrambled to the floor before he could be pinned. The speed of the young tag team gave them several opportunities early, nearly upsetting the Boys with a vertical suplex into a flying bodypress cover. Hoff was able to help turn the tide by distracting the referee and allowing Taylor to grab the legal opponent Roucka and snap his neck off the top rope as he jumped to the floor. A flying leg lariat by Hunter followed up, and the Glamour Boys made some quick tags of their own to keep the pressure up including their trademark superkick into a Samoan Drop. Kidd stopped a pin on his partner, and led the crowd in cheering Roucka on as the plucky aerialist staggered to the corner after surprising Hunter with an enzuigiri. Kidd came in on fire and delivered rapid elbows to Hunter, then threw him to the ropes. He didn't notice Taylor make a blind tag in, and when Kidd went for a brainbuster suplex Taylor caught him with a high kneelift to propel him into the corner. When Jamie staggered out, Taylor hit him with the Big City Breaker, a flipout turnbuckle neckbreaker for the three count. WINNERS: The Glamour Boys As a dejected Kidd and Roucka left the ring, The Hoff crowed about his team moving on. As they posed, the lights dropped out and moments later the Glamour Boys were not alone in the ring as the Sons of Skullhead stood behind them. The Hoff bailed as his men were easily tossed to the outside, and the trio seethed with rage as the crowd cheered loudly! Southwest Tag Title Tournament - Semi-Finals The Sons of Skullhead vs. Mark II --------------------------------- With the SoS already in the ring, Mark II entered to a loud pop of their own. Mark Workman began the match against Darklin Skullhead and found little success against the 6'8 power brawler. Each time he tried to use his technical skills a shove or an elbow would knock him to the mat. He brought his partner in but Carney had much the same results. It wasn't until he ducked a clothesline and used a dropkick to the knee to bring Darklin to his knees that Mark II was able to get a rhythm going against their larger opponents. Workman tried to hit the Imp Plant on one of the twin masked men, but was instead flung into the corner. Despite their best efforts, it wasn't meant to be as the match ended when Carney was caught by Krow Skullhead and put down with a jumping piledriver for the victory. WINNERS: The Sons Of Skullhead Post-match, a weary Carney and Workman shook hands with Darklin and Krow and raised their hands in a sign of good sportsmanship. Chants of "S-O- S! S-O-S!" rose from the crowd as the Sons of Skullhead left the ring area. Psycho Driver Tag Team Titles The New Throbbing Mattress Kittens[c] vs. Estrogen -------------------------------------------------- The crowd wasn't sure who to back in this match, as the Cordovas proudly carried the MBC Psycho Driver Tag Titles to the ring only to have Griffen and Braddock jump out of the crowd and surprise them with an attack. The precise technical skills of Griffen gave the challengers the advantage early on, keeping Luna in the ring a long time and repeatedly preventing her from tagging out to Aurora with shots to the head. Jayde went for the Spirit Breaker but was rudely interrupted by a kick to the skull by the illegal Cordova, weakening her and allowing Luna to drop Griffen with a reverse neckbreaker. Braddock rushed into the ring to again stop the tag, but when she grabbed Luna's leg the crafty twin somersaulted and flung Kyra with her own momentum right into an elbow strike. The tag led to Aurora going aerial, and the Cordovas picked up the win a short time later with a partner-assisted spear tackle. WINNERS: The New TMK The fight continued post-match, with security having to come out and pull the TMK and Estrogen apart. For the Southwest Heavyweight Title Danny Holden vs. Quinn Murray ----------------------------- Holden, all business, walked to the ring with the title and made sure to tell Murray to get a good luck, but he'd never get to hold it. A slap by the challenger led to a scuffle to begin things off, both men landing some hard punches. Holden switched to a leg-based offense, opting to kick the hell out of Quinn instead. Gore stood impassively at ringside, not making a move for much of the match as the advantage went back and forth. A Hollywood Side Kick rocked Holden and looked like it might allow Murray to hit the Fatal Frame for the title, but digging deep into his wrestling knowledge Holden planted him with a powerbomb in the middle of the ring. A near fall by the champion was thwarted as Murray grabbed the nearby ropes. Late in the match as Murray struggled to avoid the Armbar Submission he swung Holden around and knocked the referee down inadvertently. A bulldog put the champion down, and Murray hollered at Gore to "grab a chair!" Cornelius did as he was told, slid into the ring and prepared to bash Danny's skull in. But a moment's hesitation by the barefoot wrestler was all the opening Holden needed, as he reversed Murray's grip and threw the challenger right into the chair instead, and as the referee struggled back to his feet slapped on the Armbar. Gore was forced to take his chair and exit, though he didn't seem to be as remorseful as one would expect as Murray struggled for a minute, ultimately having to tap out to the champ. WINNER: Danny Holden As Holden collected his title belt, a furious Murray got back to his feet and shoved Cornelius. Gore scowled and looked like he wanted to hit Murray, but then turned and walked away without raising a fist. Murray grabbed the microphone before he left, and told the crowd that next week he'd finally make "that silent bastard" tell him what side he was really on. At this point the lights began to strobe the ring and like last week, the mysterious music started up again and lasted a little longer, long enough that the lyric "You Can't Stop It, You Can't Stop It" was heard. Murray seemed confused and irritated by the music, storming out to end the show. |
