ANNIVERSARY SHOW
March 24th, 2012 - Fair Park Coliseum - Dallas, Texas

National Title Match
Calisto Dufresne vs Robert Donovan

- Looking forward to this contest. But I would keep the belt on Calisto.

National Tag Team Title STEEL CAGE Match
The Lynches vs Violence Unlimited

- I don't see the Lynches dropping them just yet.

The Rematch
"Showtime" Rick Marley vs Eric Preston

Pedro Perez vs Juan Vasquez

Jeff Jagger vs Dick Bass
Scotty Mayhem and Johnny Casanova will be HANDCUFFED at ringside!

- My match. Will not comment.

Travis Lynch vs Bruno Verhoeven

Strap Match
Dave Cooper vs Yuma Weaver

"Red Hot" Rex Summers DEFENDS the Longhorn Heritage Championship!
- Rex retains.

Plus, Todd Michaelson welcomes Supernova and William Craven to the ring for a one-on-one confrontation on THE MONEY PIT!

-I'm thinking this could be sensational or a flop. The first Money Pit was majorly disappointing, but due to circumstances the handlers couldn't control. I think this time they nail it.

The *old* Stevie Scott wouldn't say that. :sadbye:

I haven't perfected my Ronnie-D-Person-And-Character-Are-The-Same act yet.

So neither Stevie Scott nor John, the Stevie Scott handler would say that the character was deserving of the title back when he was champion?

To me, the Stevie Scott/Juan Vasquez feud remains the golden era of the AWA. Both characters really brought out the best in each other, and there really hasn't been a National title feud like it since (Vasquez/Mizusawa had potential, but...)

Not sure I completely understand the question, so I will just say that right now I don't know anyone who deserves to have the belt on him as much as Dufresne does.

I couldn't agree more. When I first joined the federation this angle was just getting started and it drew me right in.

Stevie Scott is one of my favorite characters going back as far as I can remember and his portrayal of Ric Flair was just awesome. IMO the best fued to date in AWA hands down.

I think one thing that made that feud so good is that it went on for a while and, while the formula stayed the same, it never seemed to get too stale because neither one ever really had the upper hand. Stevie managed to hang onto the belt by hook or crook for a long while, but it never felt like Vasquez was completely defeated either. It always seemed that, at any moment, Vasquez could take the title.

FWIW, I think that's what Dufresne's title reign is presently missing - a feuding partner that you feel could beat him at any time. Maybe that's where we'll end up with Donovan, or perhaps Sharif when the time is right. For the most part, a heel champion either needs to be an unstoppable machine to the point where the fans are begging someone to step up and take him down (see Vader/Flair from 1994 as an example) or he has to be in a feud where it seems like the belt could slip from his hands at any moment.

One thing about the Vasquez/Stevie feud was that Stevie always did have the upperhand over Juan, but then Juan would always find some outrageous way to bring himself back up to Stevie's level(the bounty angle, the West Memphis Assassin, recruiting every National champion ever for War Games), so everyone was always on their toes. When me and Blue were hashing out details for the feud, I gave him about a million ideas and he said "Lets do it all!" and heck...we did.

I really loved the feud, because there never was a real lull to it. Every show, there was a big struggle for supremacy between both sides.

John is right, Dufresne hasn't had a face to hang with him every step of the way. There's a clear #1 villain, but there's no clear #1 hero...just a bunch of guys fighting it out for a title shot below him. I wanted it to be Donovan last year after he gathered the face army, but we're just pulling the trigger on that now.

The entire angle was really one long chase scene. You knew Vasquez would eventually catch Stevie. But not being able to predict when and how made it work so well. It was punch-counterpunch for months. Vasquez got enough licks in that he always kept his heat as the face, and it made the feud better - there was no question he was a legit challenger.

And then came The Triple Cross. Those always ruin everything...

It was supposed to lead to something else, but then everyone involved flaked.

The original plan _didn't_ involve Vasquez doing a two minute heel turn?

The next step was a longish Broussard/Vasquez feud, but obviously that didn't materialize for various reasons.

A shame. That would have been a great follow-up to Stevie/Juan.
