My argument to this is twofold - 1) I've always said that the AWA was designed as a tribute to the promotions I loved growing up in the 80's - the NWA, WWF, World Class, UWF, and the AWA. Those were are all companies who recognized a World Champion. How is this different? 2) To say that this robs the AWA of something that made it special seems an incredibly snap judgment to me. The title exists in name only at this point. Not a single match has been fought for it. For all you know, I will treat it and book it exactly as I did the National Title but with a different name. Give it a shot before you piss on it. |

Speaking as Devil's Advocate, the NWA of yore was not a promotion. It was an alliance of territories, over which one world champion ruled them all. Our AWA felt like one of those territories. Perhaps to some, this feels like the evolution of Jim Crockett Promotions into WCW. |

I find flaws in that argument because JCP WAS NWA for a long ass time. Sure, the champion defended in Texas and Florida and whatever but JCP was the home territory and that's the show where the champ appeared weekly to "style and profile." To me, the NWA is JCP in my mind. I don't distinguish the two. When I say I wanted the AWA to be like the NWA, that's what I mean. I mean I wanted the AWA to be like JCP running on Saturday Night out of that little studio. |

For me, I don't particularly care what we call the title. It's semantics, really. In our world, and to our characters, I don't think we've ever held the AWA to be anything less than the top of the mountain in the sport. As far as the show went, I was admittedly a little miffed with the JTF announcement of what happened and then having to wait until the show came out to see more details, which we were still lacking (intentionally, it appears.. The legend of the Westwego Incident! It'll be the next Triple Cross! What REALLY happened!?). That said, I liked the in-card build-up of what was happening with the powers that be and to where we eventually got. I thought the tag team match was great as was Preston/Marley. Still not totally sure about Donovan snapping, but I can buy it to a certain degree. I think we may have been a little better served by perhaps allowing Royalty the opportunity to hold the title hostage, etc. as opposed to the preemptive strike of announcing the World Title. Royalty gained the upper hand and now we seem to be marginalizing them immediately to a certain degree. Yeah, you have the title, but who cares? We'll just go make another one. I'm sure there's more to come that I'm not privy to with those characters, but my initial feeling was that we should allow them more time to truly screw over the organization after being "wronged". Either way, good show and I'm looking forward to what we've got coming! |

Hustle, Royalty, and Respect?
I think by the way Donovan reacted and by the way the locker room gave chase to Cooper, the National title still has symbolic value to the AWA. If the action didn't mean anything to the management, they wouldn't have deliberated through the whole show to make an unsure announcement at the end. Rather, Watkins would have opened the show with a new title in hand, smile on face. At least, that's my take. |

That was true from 1985-1989. From 1976 to 1984, the show coming out of the little studio was Georgia Championship Wrestling, the first "national fed", but still nothing but a territory that Terry Funk, Harley Race, and Ric Flair would only occasionally grace with his presence (you were much more likely to find The Nature Boy in Mid-South) This came to a crashing halt when the Brisco brothers sold their GCW stock to Vince McMahon Jr., who proceeded to piss off the wrestling world even worse than Royalty just did with Black Saturday. I think it's mainly the use of JTF to break the news in the first place? Honestly, had I not have known a little of what was happening, I might of thought it was a joke. And if I were someone who participated in the fed, but not on JTF (not sure if we have anybody who fits that bill, mind you) or I hadn't logged in for a while, I would have been confused upon reading the card itself. To a certain degree, I think the lack of information that's "out there" adds to the intrigue of it all, but on the flip side of that, it *is* the 21st century, and if we're going to use the whole social media aspect as part of the story, wouldn't we have seen some of those YouTube videos, etc. by now to tell us what happened? And to your point about it being non-linear, maybe that's part of what you guys are thinking about doing moving forward, in which case I shouldn't be so quick to make a judgment call and let things play out a bit more. Additionally, I'm admittedly terrible at plotting storylines, so I shouldn't throw stones in a glass house, I suppose. |

Well, I DID tell people in a recent update that they should be visiting JTF more often. Regardless, even if you've never been to JTF before, while I think the initial announcement on the show would be confusing, by the time the show was over, you know as much (if not much more) than anyone who had seen the stuff here. Part of the angle was designed that way. We decided that Joe doing "YouTube" promos on here was a good way to keep Petrow and Langseth's names active and show that they were actively plotting against the AWA. I decided that I would attempt to never mention the promos directly on the shows nor on here so that there was a degree of confusion on whether or not they were real or Joe being Joe. So, that way when the hammer dropped and we saw the video from after the Westwego show, no one would get whether or not it was true. Then when the card came out, you would find out that it was indeed quite true. The level of mystery surrounding it harkens back to me wanting to keep it like when Hogan/Andre had the title switch on NBC. If you watched the weekend shows after that, they were told not to discuss the title change while Jack Tunney tried to figure out what to do. In fact, when the announcers (Ventura, I think) tried to talk about it, he got bleeped. If you hadn't seen the NBC show, all you would know is that there was something controversial that happened. That was the exact vibe I was going for here with info slowing trickling out. Now, as far as finding videos on YouTube that showed what happened... Hrm. You would think someone might have thought of that. Stay tuned, studio audience. |

Coming from a casual reader who had no t been on in around 6-8 months prior I wasn't confused that much when the card was done. I actually preferred it that way. It was interesting since it unveiled in such an unusual way. It's like the Lost of e-w! |
