The only thing I thought might have helped clear some of the confusion was to have, in between the pre-show and the actual show itself, an AWA Newswire in which there was some report about "controversy in Westwego" and that AWA officials were keeping a tight lip about what saying anything about what went down, but that it would be addressed on the Anniversary show. Otherwise, if you take a look at what Joe was posting here at JTF, and then throw in what I wrote for Dave Cooper on The Call of the Wilde a few weeks back, it should have foreshadowed that Royalty was up to something... it was just a question of what it would be. The idea, at this point, is this is really along the lines of what the nWo maybe should have been -- just three guys who were wreaking havoc, but not to the point they are burying the entire roster. The three have let it be known that they consider everyone in the AWA to be the enemy and they found a way to strike at the heart and give certain guys a reason to be highly motivated to stand up for what the AWA means to them. As far as how the National title goes, I agree with what Bren has said that the deliberations throughout the show make it clear the National title does have value to the AWA, but at the same time, the board of directors wasn't going to give in to Royalty that easily, hence the idea that they will establish a World title. Another way to think of it would be what WWE did with John Cena and CM Punk this past summer... although who is to say where this will ultimately lead. ![]() As far as why the AWA would have a World title... it's just the same way as it was for the real-life AWA. They recognized a World champion but seldom ventured outside of their territory. I really don't see the need for our AWA to start venturing around all over the place, but keep itself limited to the Crockett Coliseum and WKIK Studios for its regular shows, with house shows at small venues and supercards at larger venues outside of the Dallas area. I'd continue to stay away from things like pyro, elaborate entrances, and having on a regular basis either matches with a ton of high spots or matches that involve a ton of gimmicks. And we still keep a slow build to a lot of the storylines that take place, rather than rushing through them in a short span as is typical with today's WWE. So there are still enough things that can be done to keep the feel the AWA has always had. The one challenge for me, though, will be to figure out what to do with Dave Cooper in the coming shows, given that he's pretty much blackballed from the AWA, even as he is still under contract to them. Oh, and if Langseth is a fruity pebble, then Skywalker Jones is cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs and Juan Vasquez has gotta have his pops.

I would like to express my appreciation to Jeremy and Roger, who had no insight into what was going on behind the scenes, for the supplementary YouTube stuff that they did that Petrow was able to react to and play off of. Had I not gotten some social media reaction, I would have been forced to do nothing but the "Be a Mark for Mark!" rhetoric over and over again for four months, so it was nice having that stuff to help mix things up (and give me an excuse to do my first 4M promo in over a decade!) And big thanks to Blue for letting me stick with it (he never reviewed or "approved" any of the promos beforehand except for the Westwego Incident) even when the initial reaction to the first couple of promos was overly critical. I wouldn't want the AWA to become a board fed, but I think adding the social media dimension was a worthwhile experiment. I'm not sure to what extent it should be used going forward though... |

While I'm here...was anybody else disappointed that the "cage match" was really a Cell match? I just couldn't get into it like I wanted to from the start because that surprise gimmick seemed to foretell another screwjob finish. Though the claw/claw reversal on the cage was a nicely done. And...my unlikely winner for biggest LOL moment on the show:

I didn't know it was a cell until the Lynches mentioned it in a rp. If it was a straight up cage match, they would've got massacred, so of course the Stench brothers would want to use a pansy-like "bigger" cage! |

Well, the cage match was booked because I wanted the screwjob finish. It wasn't intended to be a "surprise gimmick" since I had Dave and Brian explicitly ask for a larger cage than normal. I wanted that moment like Lawler had in Memphis when his rivals came out from under the cage and dished out a beating. Plus, it seemed to me like the Aces would be steamed enough about getting bumped from their title shot to warrant a plot like this - a plot that good ol' Percy would be more than happy to come up with. I feel like I'm doing a supercard review in bits and pieces this time. A post here and a post there. |

I'd be sad if that deprived us of a Big Blue Review, as we'll certainly miss out on some good stuff with the piecemeal approach. |

I thought it was a homage of when the Freebirds and Samoans locked themselves in a cage with the Road Warriors at the end of a cage match in Atlanta and beat them down. (am I remembering that right?) |

I feel so out of touch with so many of these "remember when..." angles we honor. I think I'm a few years behind most of you (I'll be doing this when you're all dead and there's nobody left to play with, I tell you) so I don't remember any of this stuff. Does 24/7 play old school 80s stuff in chronological order or anything so I could watch old angles and such play out on demand or is it just hit or miss? I had it briefly and if I remember correctly, that's how it worked. |

24/7 is in some weird limbo now. The WWE sent out an announcement late last year that they were discontinuing it in January so a lot of carriers (including mine) dropped it. However, some carriers apparently had deals in place to carry it through April when the new network was supposed to launch. Since the network got delayed, those same carriers kept showing it and WWE kept supplying content. So, basically... 24/7 exists if you're lucky and doesn't if you're not. But to answer your question, the only things they were showing chronologically were WWF's Prime Time Wrestling, the ECW TV shows, and NWA/WCW's Saturday Night shows (the latter of which was my favorite thing to watch every month.) So, you could kinda sorta tell when stuff was going to come up. From my experience recently though, I've found that a good mix of YouTube, Daily Motion, and WWE's own website which just got revamped to offer a bunch of full matches and highlights fits the hole left by 24/7 pretty nicely. |

Actually, most of the time I'm just bluffing and making stuff up. Nobody has ever called me out on it, so I assume that everyone is doing the same. Back to the show, I thought the main event was an excellent homage to that famous Moondogs vs Von Erichs cage match from 1982. |

My provider didn't carry 24/7, but did offer the shows. Now I have to pay for them if I want to watch them when they were all free. I got hosed. |

On a side note, I was just curious what people thought of the VU/Lynches cage match in comparison to their other two meetings. |

Speaking as an unbiased, non-partisan reader, I'm sick of the Lynches always winning.
